Winder has made considerable effort to up their downtown vibe. It's paid off and there's noticeable improvement and intrigue. Rethink Winder if you haven't been. Bistro off Broad has great potential. You can tell that they spent substantial $ to create a trendy ITP ambiance. Carving out space in the old brick building with subtle but sufficient improvements, and great ambient lighting. It's pleasant and engaging. Everything from the kitchen was timely and tasty. Well plated and bold. The menu is varied but tight. I recommend it, but won't be back. Like every service business, it's all about the people. I want to see this place succeed, but it takes more than a frilly dress to make a southern belle. Mediocrity is in the management. Hopefully, the owners will keep striving to live up to their potential. For me, it's a one and done, but give it a try , your mileage may vary. read more

We met some friends for dinner here on a weeknight. This place is so cute on the inside! From the brick walls to the pretty chandeliers, it reminded me of the old Parish downtown Grant Park without the bar. We ordered The squash blossoms, and a wedge salad. I loved the squash blossoms! Filled with ricotta cheese and drizzled with honey. So good! Our waiter was very personable. He walked through the specials of the night, and checked on us throughout our meal. Never intrusive, but always making sure we were cared for. I ordered shrimp and grits, my husband ordered the trout, and our friends ordered the short rib and the airline chicken. The short rib looked so tender. Fall apart type of tender, with carrots, mushrooms and onions. She loved it! I liked my shrimp and grits, but I can get tired of eating all those grits. I was treated to this restaurant for Father's Day. We had a really nice experience eating here. We live in Athens so it was nice to find this gem in Winder. We started with a mimosa and Bloody Mary. Both were really good the Bloody Mary was a little spicy. We had deviled eggs for a starter. The stone ground mustard which the eggs were on top of was good. I had the Southern Croque with an egg and my wife had Eggs Benedict with brisket. The Southern Croque is brisket, sausage gravy, and gruyere cheese on a biscuit. This came with really tasty seasoned fries. My wife wanted her Benedict with crab cake but they ran out of. Only negative. Our waiter was great and the ambiance is really nice. read more

My husband and I first went to this restaurant in December, 2021 for an anniversary dinner. The food was excellent--from the appetizer fondue to the pork tenderloin and oxtail entrees we ordered. The house made pasta served with the oxtail was fabulous! The collard greens served with the tenderloin were the most tender I have ever had, and I'm kind of a collard connoisseur. Our server, Chelsea, was very knowledgeable about the menu items and the history of the establishment. Fast forward to my husband's birthday toward the end of January--it was a big one ending in a "0". We had invited 8 other people to join us and would be paying for their meals as well. We had excellent service from Hannah who was on top of everything we needed when we needed it without interrupting our festivities and fun. Perfect! Only one of the couples had eaten there before, but I think they will all be back--even those than had driven an hour to get there. The Oysters Bistro was a total hit in the apps department as well as the sweet potato nachos--Yum! The entrees came out in perfect timing, not rushed, which is a pet peeve of mine. I had brought a birthday cake which Eduardo and Hannah were kind enough to deliver to our table with candles blazing for us to sing Happy Birthday and then whisk away to cut and serve. I don't like being lied to. And the menu here lied to me at least twice. For any restaurant this is a cardinal sin, but for a restaurant with farm-to-table pretensions, undermining customer trust undermines the entire endeavor as customers just assume all of your provenance is BS after they've caught you lying to them. Ramps are still on the menu in mid-July as an ingredient in the shrimp and grits. I know they are not getting ramps in mid-July as the season ends in early June. So I ask what they are substituting the ramps with. The server stammered mostly incomprehensibly with some comments to the effect of "What would you like it served with? Any suggestions?", "Our farmer didn't have them today." and the truly puzzling "We haven't been serving them (shrimp and grits) with anything." I just gave up trying to get a straight answer. My wife wanted them anyway as my shrimp and grits at The National in Athens the day before had made a big impact (they were truly delicious). Sure enough, they come out with a green onion. Google it yourself and compare the picture and read up on the season. This is just a bald-faced lie. Ramps are scavenged and green onions are as cheap as it comes. Big difference. Second, the ceviche of shrimp and cod contained absolutely no shrimp that I could see. Check the picture for yourself. Was it even really cod, much less Icelandic cod? I'm not sure. The calimari was over breaded, over cooked (to the edge of burnt), and over sauced. The proportion of squid was too small to the breading so that the primary flavor was the sauce and breading. It was topped with slices of a pickle, I assume the French radish, that reminded me of a very mild gari, the pickled ginger you find in sushi restaurants. Brie in phyllo with honey, fig, and balsamic was what it claimed to be though the thin layer of phyllo hardly added anything to the cheese. The aforementioned shrimp and grits was not good. It has a thin tomato sauce and the texture of the yellow grits was not very nice and kind of lumpy. The shrimp quality also seemed bottom rung. Compare to the previous day's shrimp and grits at The National offered at the same price ($15) which featured low country white shrimp (it didn't say it, I could taste it) and a lovely bisque like sauce with Spanish chorizo and fluffy polenta grits that almost seemed to have eggs mixed through. My lobster roll was a "market price" of $16 and was basically a bit of sliced lobster on something one step above a hotdog bun. A mountain of shoestring fries accompanied it and the other entrees. My father's Reuben was served on burnt bread. My mother's fish and chips was probably most reasonable. Basically a large piece of beer-battered fish (claimed to be Icelandic cod but I have no reason to believe that after already having been lied to twice) and served with the same fries. Nothing special but also cheaper than most of our starters at $10. The service was poor. I get the feeling our server had limited experience in hospitality and probably of a much more basic nature. She talked too much even to our table where the patter didn't really seem to be playing, partially because it was largely incomprehensible as she had a problem getting well-formed thoughts out directly. It was what I imagined a hair-dresser waiting tables for the first time might be like. I could feel our food dying in the window as she continued to talk to another table for ten minutes. As my mom remarked, she was "eager to please" she just really had no idea how to go about it. She had no idea how to organize service, take orders, clear plates, etc. The interior is generally pretty nice with the exposed brick walls reminding me of Savannah but the butcher paper topped tables become a disaster in the summer humidity as you can see in the photos. A short walk from the downtown Courthouse in Winder is a small bistro that has big city eats, nestled in a charming small town. It's worth the drive from Atlanta to peruse the windows of the small shops and stop in for Brunch at Bistro Off Broad. Great cocktails and sparklers, as well as delicious appetizers and hearty brunch items. Get your fork out, it's time to take a food adventure with us. The long bar invites you into Bistro off Broad and they have a serious wine, beer, and cocktail list, along with specialty brunch drinks. Focusing on brunch, we sampled the bottomless sparklers that included four unique mimosas and Bellinis. Get. This. When. You. Go. They were all worth a sip and it was so tough to pick one to feature, so decided to feature them all. Starting with the Raspberry Bellini, it was simply raspberry puree and sparkling prosecco that was refreshing and sweet. The Peach Bellini also combined a peach puree with the sparkling prosecco, but it turned out more tart forward and brought out the tart in the wine. In between the sweet of the two Bellinis were the Mimosa and the Poinsettia. The Mimosa had a good mix of orange juice and brut champagne, not too sweet, not too tart. The Poinsettia incorporated cranberry and brut champagne, as well, but the brut brought out the sweet of the cranberry, so it was more balanced. Take your pick, you won't go wrong. Once you move from the bar into the dining room, gorgeous chandelier hang strategically over each table. They were the first thing we noticed! The second thing we noticed was the full brunch menu full of delicious eats like fresh salads, benedicts, hashes, biscuits and gravy, and everything you can think of you'd ever want for brunch. We opted for several dishes, apps, and sides including deviled eggs, wings, corned beef hash, farmer's scramble, and Brussel sprouts. For the apps, the wings were beautifully stacked and looked almost too pretty to dig into. You wouldn't be disappointed though when you did because they were sweet, salty, fall off the bone good. With a sticky, spicy Asian sauce then slightly charred they had the right amount of sauce and meat. Followed that up by the Reuben Deviled Eggs that were some of the best we've had in all of Atlanta. These beauties were delicately whipped savory egg filling topped with tangy onion and a meaty piece of corned beef. Underneath is a tart and tangy ground mustard that gives it a flavor pop at the end. For the entrees, the corned beef hash combined real thick cut-corned beef, roasted potatoes, onions and peppers, topped by a runny egg. It was savory, sweet, decadent, salty, and we could go on! If you're looking for a healthy option, may we suggest the farmer's scramble with mushroom, corn, green beans, and scrambled eggs. Let's not leave out the Brussel sprouts side. This is something that we always get because it's a good food to add brightness and crunch to a meal and we could eat them every day. These were very good with the right amount of crunch, along with a smoky, onion, and savory bacon flavor. It was the right combination of flavors that we wouldn't add anything to it! Ok... wow! Went in for happy hour and dinner our first visit. Absolutely amazing. The red and white sangria are so delicious and perfect for happy hour. Only $4.50 for a huge glass. Smells plates are half off too so we got the calamari. Different and so delicious! Next we got the shrimp and grits and risotto as our entrees. Shrimp was cooked perfect and the risotto took me to another level! So much flavor going on.. if you're not sure where to start I would recommend starting with risotto! This is my second time here and not as good as the first. We had a party of five with 7:00 pm reservations on a Friday night. The food was still good but sever was not attentive and we had to call him over to ask about our bar order and to place our food order. He may have been a new server. Like most restaurants, food was slow coming out of the kitchen probably due to understaffing. We requested bread service but it took 20 minutes to come to the table. Again, the food was very good but slow. Three of us got the salmon entree which was very good but they were skimpy on the vegetables. I should have gotten a side salad. Lunch prices seem a little high for what you get and service was a little slow and we sat at the bar but the food was good

I struggle to dine out due to a horrible allergy to pepper. The manager greeted us and I told him of my allergy. Typically I request that my server ask the kitchen what I can have, instead of going back and forth asking what has pepper in it. Not here, the manager brought Chef Joel out from the kitchen and he prepared a delightful mussels appetizer for me, and came out from the kitchen to ensure it was to my liking. I was really looking forward to trying this place out. Once we showed up and they were closed, because it was a holiday weekend. I had checked the website and called and got their voicemail, both of which had indicated they were open. Now, we make reservations in advance for my birthday and they call THE DAY BEFORE to cancel our reservation because they have a private party. Seriously!? Their food might be good. I don't know. I have also been here many times for dinner and had excellent service and meals. Today, however we came for Sunday brunch and won't return. My friend ordered egg whites and the waiter returned saying the chef doesn't offer egg whites. What? If you serve poached eggs you have egg whites. The bill came and she was charged a dollar extra for egg whites -the ones they don't offer. I had the Benedict and the hollandaise tasted as if they had added pickle juice -it was not edible. My friends scrambled eggs tasted as if they had vinegar added also. The bacon was limp and grossly undercooked. This place is great! Calamari was some of the best I have had, my wife got the chicken which was huge and amazing, and the chocolate cake was proably the best desert we have ever shared together. Finally a cute restaurant in Winder to go to that's not a chain. Went on a Saturday around 6. Hostesses were very sweet and the owner stopped by my table to make sure everything was going smoothly with the meal. I ordered the calamari and Brussels sprouts. Both tasty and I like the sauce the Brussels sprouts come in. Also ordered be house margarita. Could've had a little more jalapeño to it. Two big TVs at the bar that were playing the UGA football game so this place probably gets popping during big game days but they also have outside seating and a section away from the TVs if you want to keep to yourself. I am very much tired of the chains and fast-food choices that plague our area, so we decided to try yet another local off-the-grid place. The ambience is excellent, perfect for dates or business meals. They have a nice dining area separate from the bar; which I enjoy as I don't care much for any sports bar-like places.
