Hubby and I were driving through and decided to stop in for dinner. Without reservations we were seated quickly. All the staff were so friendly, especially Bri our server, she was great! We sat down to a "Cajun night" menu to which I inquired if that's like a weekly thing or what and was explained that they will occasionally do various themes and recently had done Italian. They had Cajun music playing and a full Cajun menu, it felt like we were in Louisiana which I am very familiar with, I have roots there. I think having themed nights is a very clever way to bring a variety of fine dining options to a small town that doesn't have a lot of restaurant options. Fully support! Love the concept! Having had frog legs before I didn't feel the need to explore again so didn't choose those. I instead opted for some more cozy comforts such as the Crawfish étouffée and Duck Andouille Gumbo. Both were delicious, my only gripe would be the presentation was quite lacking. Traditionally, for either of those dishes, the rice is served from a cup as a topper, not the gumbo or étouffée spooned atop the rice. But the flavor hit it out of the park. Hubby ordered the Blackened Redfish and this is where the chef's talents shine. This was the winning dish of the evening. Hubby hates okra, I love it, and I'd never had it grilled before though and I'll be using that cooking technique in the future, especially since hubby actually likes okra finally. But I don't want to focus on okra for a fish dish. The blackened redfish was so well seasoned and perfectly flaky, the pinto beans had great flavor as well. We finished our meal out with the beignets and coffees (hubby espresso and me a latte) which paired perfectly with the beignets. We ate them politely with the fork and knife provided though if you ain't covered in powdered sugar or accidentally proofing powdered sugar across the table when you take a bite are you even doing it right? ;) but they were delicious, everything was. Again the only suggestion I have is to consider presentation. The dishes looked a bit bland for the amount of flavor they packed. A slice of that grilled okra on top of my Gumbo or just anything simple would've gone a long way. Overall I'll give 5 stars. I have no complaints. Top 10 Meal of Our Lives! We just had dinner at The Bistro on Broad in Winder, and it absolutely blew us away. We're no strangers to good food--we're certified foodies--and this meal easily cracked the top 10 meals of our lives. We started with the pimento cheese and gnocchi to share, and both were downright insane in the best way. Creamy, rich, balanced--like Southern comfort and fine dining had a baby. For entrées, we ordered the shrimp & grits and the Campanella with beef ragout... and then proceeded to eat off each other's plates all night because we genuinely couldn't decide which one we liked better. The shrimp & grits were smoky, buttery perfection, and the ragout was slow-cooked, soul-warming magic. Dessert? Blueberry cobbler and chocolate bread pudding. We were already full, but we pushed through like champions. Both were ridiculously good--the kind of good that makes you consider licking the plate. And major shoutout to Bree, our server--she was absolutely wonderful. Friendly, attentive, and spot-on with every recommendation. She made the experience even better. My husband and I came here for dinner a few weeks ago. I didn't have a chance to look at the menu before our arrival so I didn't know what to expect. The ambiance was very nice, it had a very historic southern feel but there was also some elegance. Our Bad for not leaving as soon as we were asked if we had reservations (the place wasn't busy at all) and were placed at a high top table in the Bar next to the kitched/serving away from the fine dining area with table cloths etc. Next the complicated menu with only few options for main course's was kinda explained to us, like what "sides" do you get??? We also asked about some bread.....it's called "Bread Service" and you get a small block of home made bread and olive oil, for $7.00 and only once! I'm 65 years old and have eaten at many high end restuarants in my life and I get they all can be pricey but this place falls way short of fine dining. Atmosphere is very nice but thats it. As my Wife and I were leaving I made the excuse for the mistake we made by STAYING there is you have to have Bad experiences to appreciate the good one's. We will not make this mistake again at the Bistro. Entree's we had: Red Fish one fillet $36 no sides. Service and the atmosphere was nice. In fact our waiter and every staff member we encountered was really friendly and extremely helpful. However, the food was not that great. I had higher expectations for the meal and everything sounded so good, but it was tasteless. No one in my party enjoyed the food. I had the special which was a trout with red pepper sauce and a salad. The salad was an interesting surprise that I would try again with added seasoning, but I was not a fan of the trout and it was too much sauce added. Two others had the salmon and cabbage, they thought the salmon was tasteless but the cabbage was tasty. And one had the shrimp and grits - it just wasn't the typically taste of the dish. read more

Honestly I've been a little hesitant on visiting based off the menus and pictures so I went in with low expectations and an open mind. A little modern farmhouse vibe. Not really my kind of vibe but it was cute for what it is. Though the cloudy mason jars with butcher paper on the table wasn't appealing. The butcher paper I felt was very cheap being that this place is trying to be more upscale. No coasters as well so the condensation from glasses soaked the paper.. I ordered a tequila old fashioned "reimagined" and it wasn't bad. Didn't really taste the bitters but definitely tasted the agave. Very sweet. All the cocktails were decently priced. We ordered three entrées and an appetizer. The menu is seasonal and they try to use mostly local ingredients so that is awesome. Our appetizer was the sweet potato nachos. It was good but very weird to eat and the fried kale was greasy. I liked the pairing of the sweet potato with the fresh cheese but again the dish was just awkward to eat and greasy. I would think it would do better as a garnish than appetizer. Our three entrées included gluten free fish (I forgot what kind), housemade reuben sandwich, and a burger made from local Georgia beef. I honestly didn't really enjoy anything we ordered. Everything was just okay. Fries on all plates were overdone and hard as well as the fish. The thicker parts were okay but the thinner parts actually cut my mouth being so hard.. The reuben was good and had flavor but a little on the dry side. Fries on this plate were extra crispy.. The burger unfortunately was the best out of everything we had. Was cooked well done (we asked for medium) and came with iceberg lettuce, a slice of tomato, pickles, and fries. I can see the vision and what they are trying to be but I feel they are missing the mark, by a lot. I really wanted to say I enjoyed our visit but I didn't. I think this is a 2.5 on the scale. Place is nice for winder. I was definitely overdressed. Was greeted by 2 servers. Very bubbly servers. We order our drink and the drinks took 30 mins. Really?!? The charcuterie board was reasonable and had some different thank usual. Then literally our food came while we were still eating the app. The short ribs was cold and under seasoned and took 15 mins for salt and pepper. I had the trout and was over seasoned. Came here for lunch with a friend on a weekday. The space is open and beautiful. Love the giant chandeliers and classy decor! We arrived before 12 and were greeted and seated immediately. The restaurant wasn't busy, but more diners came in shortly after we were seated. Since it was my friend's birthday, I asked our server in private if they did anything special for birthdays. She said she would offer to give my friend a complimentary dessert and would let her choose. We ordered the following: Baked brie $11 Chicken salad sandwich $10 French dip $13 Crème brûlée (complimentary birthday dessert) The baked brie came with honey, honeycomb, bee pollen, fig, and balsamic. It was the bee's knees! Great start and great for sharing. My friend ordered the chicken salad sammy and enjoyed it. It was served in a croissant with a side of house cut fries. I ordered the French dip which is a sandwich with smoked prime rib, caramelized onion, provolone, horseradish crema, and a side of house cut fries. Delicious and the "dip" complemented the sandwich well. The fries were cooked perfectly. After our meal, our server came by and asked my friend for her dessert preference given 2-3 options. She went with the crème brûlée. I love crème brûlée and really enjoyed theirs! The top had a perfect crunch. The inside was plenty sweet and creamy. We devoured it. Overall we had a great first experience at Bistro Off Broad! The service was excellent, the food was delicious, and the prices were reasonable. The portions were also generous. Wine tasting at the Bistro Off Broad. It's 4 o'clock and my partner and I joined a wine tasting event at the bistro. Fleur de prairie Rose. It was much drier than expected. Not a favorite only gave it a 6. It was served with jumbo scallops fresh peaches, sweet onion, cilantro sorbet; yikes it was delicious and I give it a 10. The dish was cold never expected this. Next was a wine called Domaine Masson Blodelet. A bit dry for me I gave it a 7, Perhaps because I am getting drunk. It was from south France. It was served with braised rabbit. No way, bugs bunny how could they do that? Oh my god I don't usually talk to god but it was lemony with feta, peas that I usually never eat. Guess what, I gave it a 10. Next a Pinot Noir...."the calling" I getting drunker, but it was good an 8, but most others gave it a 7 It was served with tuna oh no; Charlie. how could they. Tuna, a bit spicy served over a summer squash with peppercorn. I gave it a 8, a bit to peppery. San Michele a torri; I'm drunk so I can't decide if a 7 or 6. Ok a 6 must be the quantity of wine I consumed it wasn't that good. It was served with Sharis friend, Lamb chop; what, who are these people. She was served with magic molly a potato purée. Yum I gave it a 9 while everybody else including the wife gave it a 10 including my friend Pam found the bone marrow. That being said it was awesome. The chef came out and said it took 2 days for the sauce. What; how can that be. We'll no dessert with our wine tasting but it was because of chocolate sauce with the lamb. I am not sure what is on the regular menu but whatever it is it will be excellent. I would definitely recommend this place. This is my third horrible meal here. The restaurant itself is pretty, classy, but the food is terrible. I had suggested this place for a date and was highly embarrassed. We went to their tapas night last night and had a great time. The service was very good and so was the food. We had Octopus, marinated Olives, croquettes, clams and Paella. The Octopus was the best I have ever had and that includes in Greece and Spain! The restaurant is nicely designed and has a lovely atmosphere. This is the hidden gem of Winder! Bistro off Broad is a beautifully renovated brick building in downtown Winder. It is charming and elegant but not overly pretentious. We went for brunch on a Saturday right before the lunch rush and ordered the overnight oats with bee pollen to share as an appetizer. Our very sweet waitress brought out some adorable freshly made muffins while we waited for the meal. The dish was served cold with tufts of freshly made whipped cream. The dish was gooey with a light coffee flavor and pops of flavor from the dried fruit and a touch of bee pollen. I would definitely order this again as my main brunch meal. We then tried the eggs Benedict with duck fat hollandaise sauce. I ordered mine with the crab cake and she ordered hers with country ham. Both arrived looking beautiful and tasting rich. I must say that we really enjoyed this restaurant and were happy to learn that they are now offering some themed nights for specialty cocktails and small plates. HORRIBLE experience! My family and I decided we wanted take out, so we drove to Winder for a different restaurant initially. That restaurant was closed, so I decided to try this one despite having a hard time finding the menu. I ordered the scallops, the Brussels and bread pudding. Ended up throwing the entire $60+ meal out. SCALLOPS are my absolute favorite, I get them whenever they're on the menu and I cook them at home also. These were jumbo scallops served over corn risotto. The risotto was cold and as stiff as clay. The scallops were completely RAW! They were perfectly seared on the outside, but the inside was the consistency of a gumdrop. I wanted scallops so bad that I cut each of them open to see which ones I could consume, they were all raw inside. Years of eating scallops at fine dining establishments and never had undercooked scallops, such a disappointment. The BRUSSELS were a full on salad, loaded with red peppers, onions and peanuts, drowning in a balsamic like dressing. They were a dreadful mess. The BREAD PUDDING was DISGUSTING! First bite was full of raisins, I counted 17! It was hard, and dry, like something you'd pick up to feed the masses (think Costco and Sam's Club). Overall, just not a great experience. The food was a miss, it's seems as if they were trying way too hard to be a fancy, outside of the box restaurant. They dropped the ball. I'm all for supporting small businesses and more importantly local businesses, however I will not support an establishment that operate that serves bad food and does so unapologetically. read more

My wife enjoyed the fish and chips entree and I had the steak frites. Everything was prepared and presented perfectly. My wife enjoyed a cocktail called "Love Spell" and I had a Classic City lager. Our server, Madison, was top notch! Always attentive yet not overly present. She knew the menu thoroughly answering all our questions as first timers and was able to make thoughtful recommendations. This was my second visit. I was here in late February 2022. My rating would have been a 5 on that visit. The bread service, burgers, and fries were amazing. This visit today was different. We ordered the bread service and instead of a loaf with 4-5 slices and the best butter/oil garlic concoction you ever tasted, we got 4-5 pieces of hard toasted sourdough dry with butter on the side. When I'm paying $9 for bread, I expect more than hard toast with butter! When I inquired, I was told that the whole menu had changed and a new chef had taken over this week Hoping the pomme frites were still awesome, we asked to substitute them for the other vegetables with our entrees. The server came back and said the chef said no to subs but we could order the fries as sides (which we did because the succotash and asparagus were not sides we would eat). So we paid extra for fries even though we did not get the sides that came with the entree. Go figure. The fries were not the same and were so spicy with pepper and other seasoning that we could not taste the potato. The crab cakes and fried chicken were really good as was the Brussel spout appetizer. My filet was cooked perfectly but again over peppered to the point I could not taste the meat. I wrote this not to slam the new chef but to caution him. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Put the ego aside and use what worked for people from the old chefs regime. Add your touches but don't throw out what was great that made this place successful. read more

I used to really like this place. It seems like the past year the portions and quality have gone down and the prices are higher. $6.00 for bread service that's literally the size of 2 small pieces of toast. Our family of four visited last Thursday around 9:30. The service was apathetic and the entrees came out 5 minutes apart. My husband's scotch order never came but we weren't charged for it so no worries. We asked to order dessert and were ignored for about 15 minutes after we received the menus and gave up. The trout entree was good but was literally a 4 oz portion with two sad little bok choy leaves with some almond dust on them for $30. Come on, guys. The ambiance is beautiful but we had to replace two chairs at the table; one with the arm falling off and the other with three rollers. With these prices you should be able to keep your dining sets in good shape. I feel like this restaurant started out great and earned a good reputation but the joy is gone and they've become stagnant. $165 worth of disappointment. read more

Great little spot in downtown Winder, GA that serves really good food at reasonable prices in a relaxed atmosphere. Cork fee of $15 makes it nice to bring your own wine which we did (Neal Family Cabernet) and yet they have some nice choices and delicious cocktails. Plenty of parking, definitely recommend sitting inside rather than the small tables out front. We enjoyed it and we'll keep it in our dining out rotation here north of Atlanta. Wife ordered the European Sea Bass and it was served whole, really fresh and great presentation. I enjoyed the 10 oz ribeye and it was tasty, not too fatty and cooked perfectly. Very disappointed with our experience at this establishment and very seldom do I write a review such as this one. Made a reservation a day prior to my wife's birthday using a popular app. We arrived five minutes prior to reservation time and used on street parking which was limited. When we arrived on a Friday the place was crowded, noisy and frankly I was disappointed with COVID precautions as the hand sanitizing dispenser was out of liquid being one example. We were very uncomfortable with the crowded conditions and lack of social distancing between tables. We had to stand while we waited to be greeted at the hostess/host station surrounded by others who were also waiting "without face coverings"... too close for comfort in my opinion. COVID protocols were not being uniformly being applied. Finally we were greeted and informed they did not have our reservation. While courteous the host said there were no tables available and we were not offered any options. Folks as a retired business owner I understand that unfortunate events or problems arise from time to time but they are just opportunities to an establishment to rise and shine to the occasion to demonstrate that they are the best in class thus gaining a reputation that is unparalleled by competition. This is not a "best in class restaurant." This was my second poor experience with this business and I did not write a review of my first experience as I gave the business the benefit of the doubt. By the way we ended up at Longhorns Steakhouse in Bethlehem enjoyed a good steak dinner for two with a great waitress named Summer... it was just under $100 for two including drinks and dessert. While visiting Winder we found the Bistro Off Broad which had good reviews. This is a local farm to table restaurant. We arrived around 2:45pm so went right in and got seated. When you walk in, you enter the area near the very nice bar area. The dining area is entered to the right. Our waitress, Gabby, was great, very pleasant and attentive but not intrusive. The dining area was very nice, see picture, comfortable chairs and a good selection of music playing at a comfortable volume. I had the shrimp and grits which is a staple at the restaurant, my wife had the Cuban sandwich. While the Cuban sandwich with fries was very good, the shrimp and grits were the best I've had. The grits came from a local farm and were very creamy and the shrimp were a good size. It had a sauce on it that really complimented the dish and put it over the top. For desert we had a chocolate praline dish which I would not hesitate to order again. We look forward to visiting again in the near future. read more

I have been to this restaurant several times and have always been pleased. The restaurant is lovely with brick walls, chandeliers and paintings. Today I got the burger for lunch. I asked for it medium. When it came out, it was well done, no pink whatsoever and the meat was hard and tasted old. Fries were great. My friend had the Cesar salad and said it tasted off. We absolutely recommend Bistro. We discovered one evening with a family dinner and have since made it our destination go-to for special occasions and nights when we want to indulge in amazingly prepared local/foodie/farm-to-table fare. It isn't just hype, it is really just that good. My review and photos are specifically for brunch although we give the highest of marks for dinner and for drinks, as well as a specialty night we attended featuring Korean BBQ Food- we arrived early when brunch first started around 11am on Sunday. A note for anyone coming to Winder - the city determines the mimosa brunch laws, so don't plan on drinking before at least 12:30pm. For most this won't matter, but if you are considering making it a boozy brunch know your timing. However, food is on point and delicious. We both had recommended entrées - a form of love for Eggs Benedict and a delightful Greek omelette and delicious extras. I won't draw you to major specifics bc just like their dinner menus, items change and adapt but I guarantee you will find amazing options from in-house bacon, spins on classic favorites, and out of this world new dishes. The Team- Chef and his team are astounding and true to their craft. I also appreciate the management of the bar and restaurant. Each time we visit, there are plenty of opportunities to have a casual visit and hear about what is next. Patrons are encouraged and that is appreciated. On the brunch day, we were headed to a scotch and whiskey tasting and the bar manager spent time with us explaining the nuances and levels of finding the right one. Overall- while not my most wordy of reviews, I have so much faith in the consistency of great food, adventure, and great ambience. The key is you are breaking the chain restaurant habit and supporting local restaurateurs who are utilizing local farm crops and yields in their dishes and not afraid to get outside of the box.
