After 4 years of hearing this place was too pricey, my girlfriend and I went. It was excellent. The owner greeted us and seated us right away. It was warm and inviting. The service was great and the food was exquisite. We ordered their suggestions on the wine and the wine was out of this world. At the end of the night it was a bit pricey but totally worth it. A great spot for casual (jacket and jeans) dining. Definitely one of the best tapas restaurants in CT. During the warmer months the small but effective and intimate outdoor area is nice for a later seating with a date. The often slow dishes coming from the kitchen can sometimes turn one's stay into a bit of a marathon experience but the execution of the menu and the service work well to make it a worthwhile stay. read more

We stopped in for an early drink and some tapas after shopping in the late afternoon. The servers were so friendly, and the bar is so beautiful. The owner came in later and showed us around the restaurant, and the charming patio that he had enclosed (and done the tile floors himself). And the tapas - was - amazing! I had the cod fritters, creamy inside crunchy outside- which came with a luscious little green salad. Then we had the shrimp. OMG. I want to eat that every day! I requested a plate of rice to soak up the sauce - I had the Parisian cocktail, very herbal and refreshingly tart. I can't wait to go back for a full meal. Had a really lovely meal here on Friday night, it was very busy but as per our reservation (and we were half an hour late) they kept our table reserved. Nice touch! We happened to be in Milford last night and decided to try something out of the ordinary of our usual Saturday night haunts. I read the reviews of BB which were great so we decided to stop in. This is a great place for some great food....tapas, entrees, salads, wines, all very unique in their own respect but also traditional enough for the faint of heart. We sat at the bar which was cozy enough, except on this frigid night you when the front door opens a blast of cold air almost freezes you on the spot. We have dined at Bistro Basque four or five times. We haven't been there in a couple of years and it was usually good so we decided to go back. Mistake! One small piece of cold bread with cold dipping oil, one so so sangria, downsized and not so good tapas, and two seafood paellas. The paellas each featured two small clams, one scallop, one descent sized shrimp and one small one and plenty of rice. Overall for the $80 plus we dropped I could have got Chinese take out and had about as much rice left over. Service was not the best, not the worst. Overall we will never go back! read more

I have been there twice. Owner and one of the waiters are abrasive and rude. Both times they added money to the bill, (first time over $100 with a party of 10, and this last time $25 with a party of 3), thinking we wouldn't see it. Been several times, and overall its a decent place in an odd location. Food is good, though a tad overpriced, service we have found can be spotty, and parking is an issue. Its downtown Milford, which seems patrolled heavily (so watch where you park), but the location also allows you to stroll by the town green. Tapas are good and much of their food we've tried has not let us down. If it were crowded I would avoid the place. Tables are kinda tight and the place is small. Cool spot with a great atmosphere. The staff was very attentive. I would go back but no need to rush back. We were a party of 6 on a Saturday night. The wine was reasonably priced and decent pours. Do not think that you are going to a Spanish restaurant as the food is predominately French with a few a few Spanish influences. I had the foie gras which was good, I thought the roasted tomatoes were over powering along with the store bought balsamic glaze it was served with. The baked goat cheese toast were just ok. The bread was doughy and tasted like it was from stop and shop although I did like the small dish of olive oil that came with it. The filet special was a very small portion (maybe 6 OZ), cooked fine. I had the lobster and scallops. The lobster was fine but the scallops were over cooked with no sear. I did like the sauce however. I did not try the causolet but the reviews were not very good and it looked more like a stew with a small duck leg in the center. All the meals came with the same undercooked broccoli and carrots. For $399.00 I would have expected better food. read more

Four of us went to Bistro Basque for the first time tonight on a recommendation from a friend. We were seated in the covered patio, glass roofed, near French doors opening to another lovely outside patio, (still under construction). We felt like we were back in Barcelona. First of all the atmosphere is wonderful... lively but not noisy, dimly lit but not dark, comfortable, friendly. The servers were helpful and made great suggestions without being pushy. The owner David came to our table several times to chat and tell us about the restaurant. Three of us had sangria which came by the glass and was good and full of fruit. We ordered six tapas for sharing: shrimp in garlic sauce, serrano ham (prociuto was substituted, but was lean and delicious) with manchego cheese; chorizo with white beans; cauliflower au gratin; artichoke hearts; and lomo (pork tenderloins) with roasted peppers on toast. Two salads were fresh and crisp, one mixed greens and one endive with beets and pears. Our two husbands had paella that was better than ANY we had in Spain. We shared two desserts: a blueberry creme brulee (but thicker and not as sweet) with vanilla ice cream; and fresh strawberries and peach melba with vanilla ice cream. Complementary muscatel completed the meal. The bill came and we were surprised that it was not more, considering the amount and quality of the food we ordered. We will definitely be returning and taking other friends to enjoy this extraordinary restaurant. We couldn't find a single thing to complain about so our rating is Woohoo! As good as it gets! Was excited to try this new location, and was completely underwhelming. Only gave it a 2 for the atmosphere, as I was sick for two days after eating the food. First off the service was horrible. Maybe the time as we stopped I. For a late lunch at 3 and the guy sat us in the bar and complains to us that The person that seated us gave us the wrong menu then proceeded to tell us what not to order on the menu as well as what not to drink because he didn't like the mixes they used. We were like ok... and actually thought about walking out but still decided to give it a try. We should've gone with our first instincts. My friend did have the organic cucumber Martini and it was delicious but I had a bloody Mary and it was probably the worst I've ever had. Then we both ordered the special steak and where served the steak that was on the regular menu along with the wrong sides. Normally I don't say anything but we wanted the particular cut that was the special along with those sides. When I brought it to the waiters attention he proceeded to tell me that I ordered the wrong steak and describe the sides. Then he realized he was the one that messed up the order and blamed it on the kitchen but in a way to make us feel like it was our fault. The steak we ordered and the steak on the menu were different prices of course the one we ordered but did not receive was the more expensive meal and what we wanted.... but again received the regular steak and sides from the menu. He had such arrogance about him we almost walked out without even taking a bite of our meal. My friends steak tasted so bad she only ate two bites and her garlic bread was so burnt on one side it was inedible but they served it flipped over so we wouldn't notice. When we mentioned something about it the waiters response was that happen sometimes but did not offer to replace it. My steak also had an off taste to it in the broccoliRob that was served with it was cooked so poorly I took one bite and almost spit it out. We did not even take our leftovers home to feed to the dog because we were afraid it would make them sick as well. Then when we received the bill the waiter did not make the correction for the price of the meal's even though he served us the wrong ones. At this point we realized it was not even worth the conversation with him because he was so arrogant and disrespectful and rude that we just deducted the amount from his tip and noted it on the bill. It will be a long time before I try this place again if at all it's a shame because it looks like it could've been fun may go back for drinks but it definitely will be a while. I must say the food was wonderful. I called ahead for a table for two at seven. No problem. Got there and no table except for bar type. So, we took it and the Owner said he'd buy our drinks he gave us at the bar. When we ordered, the waiter tried to tell us there was a mimimum of purchasing two tapas appetizers besides ordering your entree and salad and drinks. Well, that was not true. When the check came, they added the drinks to our tab. I believe this restaurant serves great food. They should focus on providing honesty and trust with the consumer. read more

It is a hidden gem that is consistently good. Its a place that you find yourself appreciating the fact that they thrive on making good food. The paella is amazing and one of the best around, especially now since Ibiza has closed in New Haven. I was disappointed to see the back patio which used to have seating was now closed, will not be good if they lose that area. We had a wonderful meal despite being dinner walk-ins and needing to be moved inside from the unfinished patio as it started to rain right before dessert. The waitstaff was definitely harried as they were dealing with a full house, but service was still accommodating and very gracious. A special of the day was the favorite part of the meal for our whole table--peppers stuffed with short ribs. The paella and vegetable tapas were also excellent. read more
