DISAPPOINTING AND MISLEADING. We got a Groupon yesterday and checked out the menus. Three breakfast items interested us, so we decided to try it this morning, then use our Groupon at a later date. My husband had the Eggs Indigo: eggs Benedict on a fine-grain, lightly cheddar-ed biscuit. It said it had "truffled hollandaise." The truffle flavor was imperceptible, but the hollandaise was homemade, and my husband was very pleased with the meal. However, what would you expect from a meal described as: "BREAKFAST PIZZA - Grilled, Whipped Cream Cheese, House Cured Gravlax, Lemon Confit, Chive Oil, Crispy Shallots?" What it actually is is just a COLD, dry, white flour tortilla smeared with whipped cream cheese, scattered with smoked salmon pieces and green onion, and cut in wedges. No lemon ANYTHING, no oil, no shallots. I could have made this myself at home for a lot less than $17. In response to my disappointment, and my observation that it was a tortilla, not a pizza crust, the chef said, "That's how we do all our pizzas." When she began back-pedaling, saying she'd given me "both chives AND green onion", I realized It was pointless to discuss the rest. Bottom line: the chef took unacceptable shortcuts on a slow Saturday morning. To be fair, the waitress asked if I'd like to order something else instead, but I was already halfway through, and it was satisfying my salmon craving. So, be warned, if you're likely to be tempted by a "Breakfast Pizza", DON'T BOTHER TRYING IT HERE! I agree with Nicole C. about the TVs. There are a dozen, including a very large one, in this relatively small (20'x30?) room. Otherwise it's a pleasant setting, and our waitress was very friendly, efficient, and accommodating. Knowing 50% of our breakfast was a total ripoff, I doubt we'll bother using the Groupon. It certainly was not worth making a 30-mile round trip. read more

I am only giving this place two stars because I was able to speak with the manager before leaving the hotel for good. Me and my husband made reservations tonight because we wanted to try it out. We were looking for a new place to have dinner. We drive a good 40 minutes out east to eat and we had reservations. When we arrived the hostess was no where to be found. Another couple showed up at the same time after us. As we stood there waiting for someone to at least acknowledge us not one personnel from the bar or the ones walking by acknowledged us. About 10 minutes later she appeared from the bathroom and sat us and then the other couple. Soon after they were sat the server and her shadow went to their table first and got drink orders. She left and bopped around the area and still had not come to our table. We literally watched her every move for a good 10 minutes. Still nothing. It's like we were invisible. So we got up and put our coats on. I explained to the couple next to us why we were leaving, they were very sweet! And dumbfounded that someone had still not come to us to at least get drinks. We left and not one person came after us. From my car in the parking lot I called to speak with a manager. The hostess did not answer the phone, so I went back in to speak with someone. The hostess finally appeared after a while and asked what happened. After speaking with the manager I let her know what went down and she was very apologetic. This was our first and probably our last attempt at having dinner here. read more

We had such a lovely breakfast here this morning, sitting outside (sunny and shady spots available) and overlooking their pretty courtyard and pool area. Stephen, our waiter, made our time here very enjoyable and was extremely helpful with advice regarding local businesses. If you enjoy outdoor dining in a relaxing setting with excellent coffee, I would recommend this restaurant for breakfast. read more

We have been thoroughly pleased with every meal here. We have dined here about 4 times in past 6 months. Service is great -- especially if Cindy is your waitress. Food has been consistently delicious. I also think it is a fair value. We like that you can order a three-course meal - or just get a great burger or bowl of mussels. Enjoy! read more

Just had dinner for 5 at Bistro 72 in Riverhead. Both food and service were excellent. The salmon was perfect, moist and flavorful and the lamb shank was truly outstanding. Drinks and desert were also very well done as were the appetizers. Only complaint is we could not stop eating due to all the good food! Highly recommended. Executive Chef Jimmy Junk visited our table and spoke about the restaurant and food which was a very personal touch. Give this place a try, you will not be disappointed! read more

DREADFUL service. No salt and pepper. No plates for appetizers. Forgotten drink orders. Completely botched 2/6 orders (one person served 15 minutes before everyone else, the other served his salad, which was sent back, 30 minutes after that). No apology. Food? Please! For the prices they're charging ($12 for a drab-looking Caesar Salad that may have been around during the actual Fall of Rome, $15 for barely warm fried calamari, entrees $30-40), you'd think they'd at least take the time to train their wait staff. Instead they reach across customers, or rush to take someone's plate while they're still eating. So managers, please teach your staff how to do their jobs. Those skills are not intuitive, nor do your customers deserve this sort of thing, especially when they're paying those prices. Thankfully the musician was talented (which was the only thing keeping this meal from being a complete disaster). read more

First time here and we are so impressed. Food was amazing and the service could not have been better. We Will definately be coming back. Also had a great menu for my Gluten free diet. read more

My husband and I went there for the first time today for a nice breakfast. We sat outside and everything was great. The food was delicious and the atmosphere, being outside by the landscaped area with music in the background made it a perfect way to spend a Sunday morning. We already decided we are going to go there in August for our anniversary and spend the night. read more

Had dinner here with my girlfriend after a day shopping at the outlets , we walked in and we had to wait 15-20 mins even with our reservations. There was a live person singing in the restaurant which was way too loud !!! We wait about 15 mins for the server to come over to the table ! And about another 10 mins to get our drinks , the server did not even know the beers they had on tap she said it's all from local Brewery's. We had the pizza appetizer it was nothing special at all , there were hotel guest walking through the restaurant to get to the outdoor patio. read more

Been here about 4 times, enjoyed all the meals. Like sitting outside during the warm months, with their outside fire place and nice ambiance. Prices are a little high, hence why we don't go more often, $11/12 for a cocktail, and $50 for a steak, but it was excellent. The only negative experience is that the Groupon I used for lunch once, was falsely advertised. I brought in a "$50 groupon, redeemable Sunday-Thursday". No where on it did it say it couldn't be used for lunch or any specific times. The staff told me that "their rules" were dinner only, yet now where was it written, but they would honor the $25 value of the groupon. After I insisted that this was not right, and getting a manager, they honored it. Since then, I see they have added "during dinner hours" on the groupon. read more

The food was fine, but the service and atmosphere would prevent me from returning. The waiter was personable but neglectful, often sighted chatting with co-workers but impossible to hail for water or bread, which should have been resupplied or offered anyway. The piano in a small in-door room on a Saturday night was played at a deafening pitch. We asked the waiter to request that it be a bit lower and he did. For five minutes, we could hear each other but then the pounding resumed. The waiter admitted he had difficulty hearing to take orders. We left without dessert because we could not have a conversation. There does not seem to be management to supervise the enterprise. read more

Duck was good, the wild mushroom risotto was a big congealed lump of cold rice with little discernable flavor..I picked out the mushrooms and ate them but never will order it unless I could swap out their risotto for something else. Tuna tower was excellent. Crispy olive martini appetizer was super salty. Drinks were delivered crane style - a pet pieve of mine as I don't want to taste some stranger's fingertips. The pretzels were the 2nd best thing of what I tasted but then they are pretzels which is fine for a comfort food place or a bar, and not for a pricey place trying to suggest high end. The"Moroccan Cod"(not sea bass) and the vegan pasta dish liked and no feedback on the 8oz filet and ceasar salad though I thought it was ordered medium rare and was brought medium. Steak prices are very high but since the experience was very varied, I would think twice. read more

I came in for lunch last Sunday with my family it was a terrible experience our waiter Sean was totally not into being there extremely slow & annoyed our drinks were terrible. We were ready to walk out and a waitress Kim took over our table what a professional , kind & funny she turned our horrible experience around ,although our food was also terrible (chicken sandwiches) Kim was great! read more

I have eaten here several times since it is convenient to my residence. Restaurant is located on the north fork in calverton on rt.25. The food is good, the atmosphere is nice;there are several tvs on the walls for watching sports and on weekends and sometimes on thursday there is a nice band usually playing folk ,r&r and background music. Prices are on the high side though one can buy a groupon to reduce the bill. The place usually attracts guests from out of town staying at the hotel. read more

What a great experience my husband and I had yesterday. We drove to the hotel, checked in and decided to go to the bar before dinner. My husband loves craft beers and they had a great selection for him to choose from. They were running a special last night on a local Beer called Twin Forks. He really enjoyed it. I loved the Ospreys Dominion wine (which is one of our stops the next day for our wine tour). We had not planned to eat in the hotel, but after having a drink at the bar with Tom (the bartender) - and seeing some great food coming out of the kitchen, and listening to the live music - we decided to stay at the hotel and have dinner and we are so glad we did! The staff was so nice (attentive but not intrusive) and the food was amazing! We started with the Calamari appetizer. We loved the presentation and the choices of dipping sauces with it. So different and delicious! Our server, Rachel recommended the Scallops and Duck entrees and wow- she was right, they were both outstanding! We finished the night with Creme Brulee and an after dinner drink out on their back patio by the outdoor fireplace. I can't believe how great this place is...it is like a hidden gem! We will definitely be coming back again soon. read more

We went for an early dinner ended up being a late one, almost 2 1/2 hours to get 3 courses for 2 people. very slow service even slower kitchen. there was only 2 tables in the whole place us and a party of 5. food was good but didnt blow us away. salad over powered by vanilla, drummetts undercooked, mac and cheese was more like pasta with a cream sauce, and cobbler was loaded with more rasins than apple and very strong clove flavor. chef was not there that night but by the taste of it she should spend more time there. read more

The service was excellent! It is a very nice setup, but that's as far as I will go. The Duck was terrible and so was the lobster roll. This place is overpriced and the food is horrific. Don't waste your time! read more

I love this place ! Dined here 3 times & enjoyed everything - Kevin's service was above & beyond ! The food , especially the scallops , is a foodies dream . Cooked to perfection . Even the complimentary roasted tomato bruschetta is a masterpiece ! I was fortunate to hear a wonderful guitarist / singer one night & that really made it special . Bravo to Chef James ! I bring different friends every time & we all leave happy & looking forward to coming back ! read more

Abysmal service. We sat for almost 30 minutes without any attention from a server. The only reason why we got a waiter was because we asked another server to bring one to our table. Once we were finally able to order it took another 30 minutes for the food to arrive (entrees only). When the food finally did arrive it was mediocre. Moreover, neither the vegetable pizza nor the vegan wrap included the kale pesto, and the tomatoes on the pizza were finely chopped into a sauce, not sliced. Because our waiter was so unbelievably inattentive the entire night, we also had to ask another server to have him bring our check. Actually, the entire staff was extremely inattentive, overall. read more

Went here to eat on Valentine's Day. HORRIBLE experience. We ordered drinks it took about 30mins to receive our drinks. We ordered food that took forever but they made sure to keep bringing us bread. After a while they didn't bring us anymore bread , we were still hungry being that our order didn't come out yet. Our waitress was bad she barely paid attention to us, and she seemed a little racist. We didn't get our food until like two hours later. THE WORST EXPERIENCE I've EVER had at a restaurant. read more

Went to this restaurant about a year ago and it was so bad. The service was terrible and food took very long to come out of the kitchen. I only ordered a burger with fries and they couldn't even get that right. I would've never recommended this restaurant nor would I return by choice. However, I was staying at the Hotel Indigo for business and was basically forced to return to Bistro 72 for dinner that evening. To my surprise, I was more than satisfied. Our waitress, Ayesha was tentative and personable. The food was exceptional and comparable to any of the top restaurants on Long Island. I ordered the lamb shank and it was outstanding. I am so glad I gave Bistro 72 a well deserved second chance. read more

Bistro never fails for the best food around. We love this restaurant. The Vegan Ravioli is manna from heaven and the Moroccan sea bass is to die for. The appetizer Mediterranean plate is great and of course the wine is local and cant say enough about it. If you are lucky enough to be in the area make it a special event and eat here. You wont be sorry read more

I was super impressed with Bistro 72! The food and drink are amazing, and the atmosphere and service are even better! The manager, Samantha, is one of the friendliest, most professional, and knowledgeable restaurant managers I have ever met! She made sure every one of my needs were attended to, and that I had the best experience possible. She deserves a major promotion and is the gem of the East End hospitality industry. I highly recommend Bistro 72 to all if you want a phenomenal meal, great service, and an amazing experience. read more

This would have been minus 5 stars if I could have rated as such. And in order to place a review at all, I had to rate at least 1 star. Okay, so where do I begin... well, the appetizers were yummy, the drinks were good, the desserts delicious, but the main courses were horrendous. I ordered the duck. It was inedible, as it was fatty and raw in the middle with sinew. My husband's rib eye was tough and fatty and for $48 that should have been a slice of beef from heaven. But it wasn't. And the fact that the sides were à la carte just adds insult to injury. Our server was new so not as observant she should have been, as she did not remove our dirty dishes and glasses from our table, and was very slow in getting our drink orders. The maître d', Gina, was apologetic and comped us for our drinks and desserts, and took off the duck charge of $36, but with a total coming to almost $200 for an almost inedible dinner is just plain extortion. Needless to say, we will not be returning. If you value your money and your stomach, you will not eat at this establishment. read more

I should have known it wasn't going to be an enjoyable evening when I called to make reservations for 8 people and was told by an employee "O I can't find the book but I'll put you in for 7:30-8. If there is a problem I'll have someone call you" I never got a phone call so I called on Friday to confirm and was told they didn't have any reservation for us. Then was told they didnt have any room until 8:30. I called Saturday afternoon to see if we could change the reservation to 10 because a couple friends decided last minute to drive out for dinner. The hostess had an entire conversation with the person next to her without putting me on hold and then said no sorry can't fit anymore people. So our friends decided not to come. We show up and are seated at a table which could of very easily fit two more people. Our waitress was horrible. It took 30mins to get water and bread and this was only after we asked the other server if he could bring us them. Finally she took our order and returned with our drink order that she had taken 20 mins before. She never came back. We had to keep calling over the other server or hostess to find her so we could get more water. Four out of the eight people who had steak sent it back because it was overcooked. My pasta was good but small. Finally the bill came .... $600 with a lovely 20% tip for the server. When we tried to get her attention to discuss the bill she just kept ignoring us. Finally we found a manager and explained our problems with the evening. She discounted our bill and gave us a round of drinks. Not worth the money at all. The place was really nice but we would not return again. read more

A group of us went to a late lunch here yesterday (after wine tasting and pumpkin picking) and had an awesome experience. To start, the decor is beautiful and the outdoor seating area is so tranquil. Looks like it would be a nice place for drinks on a Friday night! Our waitress was very friendly and provided excellent service. I would highly recommend the calamari appetizer. We loved the 3 dipping sauces that came with it! My husand enjoyed the wing appetizer, but the fried oysters were bit chewy - that dish was my least favorite. I don't think I'd order that one again. Also, we would have liked to have some nice crusty bread and butter as a starter for the table ... but unfortunately none was brought to us. As for our main courses, I had the chicken sandwich, which was yummy and the fries that came with it were delish. My husband said his burger was good, although a little more on the well-done side than he wanted. I love my daughter's dish, which was ravioli stuffed with sweet peas in a curry sauce - the next time I would order that sauce for the fries because I found myself constantly dipping my fries in her plate! My daughter-in-law had the scallop dish, which was out of this world. Probably the best scallops I've tasted in a while. They were cooked perfectly and came with a sauce that was so tasty. I would definitely order this dish next time! All in all, we had a wonderul experience here and would highly recommend Bistro 72 to our friends and family! read more

Recently my husband and I were guests at the beautiful Indigo hotel in Riverhead. The first evening of our stay we dined at the hotel restaurant Bistro 72. Upon arriving we were asked if we had a reservation ? My husband replied " it is pouring rain and Monday night " there were 4 people dining at the time. We both paid to upgrade the prefix menu to strip steak. Appetizers fantastic dinner arrived the mushroom bread pudding was BURNT non-edible and the steak was cold both plates !! Apologies were given and new steak arrived shortly the same burnt mushroom pudding on the plate. The following evening we returned for dinner second night we received a carafe of ice water bread and lovely oil and tomato. Where was this the night before? I ordered fish which arrived Luke warm and my husbands French dip sandwich had COLD meat and cheese NOT melted direct from the fridge. My husband is a chef in Manhattan who of course has a food handlers license. The manager told my husband that the meat is kept in a steam table to which my husband replied " really then it must be 155 degrees. I finished my dinner long before my husband received a hot melted sandwich. Both evenings we had the same waitress and there were never more then 6 people dining. Sandwich was removed from the bill. The whole experience was a disappointment. read more

I was recently a guest at the indigo Hotel for two evening stay. The first evening my husband and I went to bistro 72 for dinner. There were three people there and we were very rudely greeted by the hostess. When the food arrived to our table the food was cold since there were only three other people in the restaurant so we couldn't understand why our food was served to us cold. The food was removed from our table and brought back to us the second time the meet was now served to us lukewarm and the potato on the plate was burnt black and served to us that way. The second evening of our stay against my husbands better judgment we returned to the restaurant for a second chance. I ordered fish that was served to me lukewarm my husband ordered a French dip sandwich. The French dip sandwich was served on a stale roll cold over cooked meat and the cheese not melted. I called over the waitress who called over the manager and the manager explained to my husband that this is impossible because the meat is kept in the steam table at a particular temperature. My husband is a chef in Manhattan and knows there was no excuse for this and the fact that the waitress made excuses and treated him like he was wrong was unacceptable. The sandwich came off the bill because once it arrived a 3rd time I had finished my meal. We did not get an apology only an attitude. The hotel was beautiful but the restaurants food was horrible and the staff was rude and unprofessional read more

What happened to this place? I came for the first time at the beginning of the summer and now back for a second visit. The host/manager with the arm tattoo was so rude and confused throughout the whole night. It was a steady Sunday evening and she "advised us to make reservations next time." Thanks for insulting us before it you 10 minutes to seat us in a nearly empty restaurant. As we were finally seated we notice the other tables looked like they have been waiting for their food for a while. The waiter was very pushy and kept suggesting we order more food. It took 30 minutes to get our appetizers and over an hour for our entrées. At no point there was bread at the table but their was bread knives. We had to pour our own wine as another waiter took one of our wine glasses away for no reason. Is this the twilight zone? The manager never stopped by the table to ask about our meal. My daughter fell asleep and we had to put her to bed. It took the dinner experience about 1 hour and 45 minutes! Did the chef walk out? No apologies for the slow or lack of service. The food was ok. read more

food was good, the staff was great and the service was on point, not a bad spot for a quick bite considering it's a hotel.

This restaurant offers a really attractive menu that gets you ready for an upscale dining experience, especially given its higher than average for its area price tag. At 15 for the average app and 35 plus per entree, a modest meal for two here is easily a hundred dollars so the expectations are that the food is going to come through. Sadly it does not, and everything we ate here was dissapointing. The calamari sauces are all far too sweet and cloying, no spicy, marina, or cream sauce offered. This dish gets overwhelming fast. The lamb sliders were sloppy, under dressed with too little condiments but had them spilling out of the side unevenly dressed, one bite was nothing but sauce and the rest of the slider was dry as a bone. Thrown together, meat way over cooked tough and dry. The duck breast was gummy, spongy, white unrendered fat. I left uneaten duck breast on my plate, a first of my life, spit out a bite. It was not good. What a shame, and what a waste. I really wouldn't waste another dollar here in my life and hope future potential customers just head up the road a bit to cooperidge inn for a proper quality meal for the price point this place is trying to operate at. If they just became a wings and burger joint they'd do far better in this area with the quality they can produce.. they can get away with that. But they aren't the fine dining they're trying to pretend to be. read more

I made a reservation for my wife and I at Bistro 72, while doing so, I mentioned that we were celebrating our anniversary. When we arrived we were seated near the fireplace and found two complimentary glasses of Sparkling Point Brut. What a great way to be welcomed to the restaurant! We loved our dinner, for an appetizer I had the cheese plate and my wife had a mediterranean plate with delicious fresh Hummus, Tabouli, Olive Tapenade Pan Seared Halloumi, Fried Pita Chips, Caper-berries & Stuffed Grape Leaves. Both were delicious and visually appealing. I enjoyed a Filet Mignon while my wife ordered PAN SEARED SALMON with Saffron Risotto that she thought was perfect.
