I have used Bishop many times in the past. They are honest, reasonable and just plain do good work! I had several trees staring to uproot my driveway and they did great job removing them. They came on time and left the area clean. Another time, I had a neighbor complain to the HOA about a pine that they claimed was dying. They wanted me to remove it. Bishop can we out, inspected the tree and wrote a letter to the HOA explaining that y the tree was in good health. (The neighbor didn't like the tree). This was not to Bishop's benefit as they didn't get a job. Brian has demonstrated his integrity and ability over and over! They have my business for life! read more

I needed to have some fairly major tree work done at a couple apartment buildings I manage. I called Bishop's and they came out promptly to bid the job. They were friendly and their price was very fair. I'd seen some negative reviews on here so I went to their office in Encinitas and had a chat with the office manager. The property owners asked me to make sure they had their license, bond and insurance in order, plus I just wanted to feel them out. Everything checked out so I went with my gut and I'm glad I did. The whole experience was very positive. The office manager kept in touch with me as the date approached and they were very flexible about working with my schedule. They showed up on time and did both jobs in one day. The crew were professional and friendly. They did nice work and cleaned up when they were done. No complaints here. After getting other bids, I met with Brian Bishop (the owner) and he assured me that his company was very professional and would do a great job. Their bid was not the lowest but I was certain that Bishop's Tree Service would step up and do a great job. It took about 3 weeks before they could do the job to trim 7 trees in my yard. The problem is that one of the trees is actually in my neighbor's yard but the tree crosses the property line so after coordinating the date with the neighbors was essential to getting the job scheduled. My neighbor and I agreed that July 7th would work and I confirmed with Bishop's. The data was inked with Bishop's. Today, three weeks after setting up this work to be performed, Bishop's office informed me that they would not be coming to do the job on this Monday because they double booked the day. They waited to cancel just one day before the job was scheduled to be performed. Bishop's website leads folks to believe that this is a large company with many employees and trucks. It is amazing to me that my job and another job cannot be scheduled on the same day. This was such an unprofessional way to have handled this situation. Very poor customer service!!! Bishop's Tree Service has Poor Results and Customer Service The recap of my experience with Bishop's Tree Service is to not recommend them. Botched tree trimming, broken planter, wasted time with delays and cancellations and an owner who fails to fix errors his company creates. Bishop's Tree Service did a terrible job "trimming" my once beautiful pine tree. In November 2018, Brian Bishop admitted he sent an inexperienced new tree trimmer who did not trim the tree correctly. Brian said he would supervise redoing it correctly. He then took four months to make it worse. I waited patiently through holidays, cancellations and no shows for four months trying to give this company a chance. In April 2019, Brian and his team showed up unannounced at 7am one morning. Brian said just a bit more needed to be done to make some corrections but then his team proceeded to hack off large limbs and destroy the shape of the pine tree. I am still shocked and fear for the tree's recovery. Brian had again left the job right after it started so I called him. He said he would come over the next day. Brian has never shown up or called back and it has been over two weeks. During the original job in November, the Bishop's Tree workers where careless in taking down limbs and broke several scrubs and broke a planter. Brian did initially agree (with photographic evidence) that his team was responsible for the damage. He then took three months to issue a check for partial reimbursement for the planter even though I had an original purchase receipt. The only positive thing I can say about this company is that the office staff was always polite and seemed to want to help. However, every request or question has to go through Brian so they have no impact on quality of service. In summary, there are plenty of great tree service companies in the area, this is not one of them. read more

The individual answering the phones is rude and has the attitude that you're bothering them by calling. It's not worth your time to contact this company, they don't respect your time, so don't make the same mistake I did! read more

Bishops tree service was doing a tree removal down the street from our home. I was so impressed by their equipment, organization and professionalism that we asked if they would remove three giant palm trees from our home as well. We were lucky enough to meet the owner who works with his son and several other employees. They did an exceptional job and a great cleanup afterwords. their price was very competitive and they were friendly and guided us through the whole process. it's great to see people who take pride in their work these days highly recommend them read more

They brought in some heavy equipment and completed the job in the amount of time stated and stuck to the estimate even though there was a little extra work to be done. Terrible customer service if at all existent. I left 2 voicemails a week ago to remove a sick queen palm tree. No response. i also followed up with an email with pictures asking for a reply asap. Nothing! No return call; no return email. Really??? No thanks. I called another company on a Sunday and he came that day to give an estimate and removed the tree Monday morning. We hired this company to prune a couple of pecan trees, a macadamia, and a Torrey Pine. The two pecans had been badly damaged in the past by another tree service, but these guys pruned them so skillfully that I can almost believe they will look like normal pecans again in the future. The Torrey is a magnificent giant and the crew did a magnificent job. Everything was cleaned up at the end of the day, with no damage to any of the landscape around the trees. In my discussions with Brian Bishop, I came to believe that he's not only very knowledgeable but also has a passionate love of the natural world. His office staff, particularly Paulette, is top-notch. We will definitely call them for future tree work. read more

A very weird experience. We have 3 canary pine trees (55 feet to 75 feet) that are infested with the beetle at my home. We needed an estimate. We scheduled Bishop's - they were to come out today. My wife called two hours before Bishop's 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. window to double check they were coming out. The person on the end of the phone reassured my wife that we are on the schedule, but could not tell her more specifically when the 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. window. The person then proceeded to chat up my wife about where she was from and other useless information for 5 minutes.. Long story short - BIshop's never showed up. We never got a call from the person who was supposed to come out or the chatty person at Bishops. Strange. read more

We stopped using Bishop over a year ago. We had been using them for years to maintain our Canary Palms. In the beginning they were great and always did the work using a cherry picker. Since these trees are so susceptible to disease, Brian ensured me that they always sterilize their equipment and would use a cherry picker to eliminate any possible cuts into the trunk. Service over the last year fell and since they come when it is convenient for them, I had not been home when they service the trees. My neighbor reported after one visit that the worker used spikes to climb the tree and since the tools were pulled from the truck, it is uncertain whether they were sterilized. He called him on it but one of the other guys said it was totally fine and they know what they are doing. I called the office and was assured that my neighbor must be mistaken even though I could see the holes from the spikes in the trees. After some time, one of the trees started showing disease. I called the office many times to see if they could save it. They said they would get Brian out to examine the tree. He never called me back. Finally over 3 months later I get a note at my door from Brian saying the tree was dead and would need to be removed by crane. These mature trees cost around $20,000 and it is heartbreaking that it could have been avoided. Praying my second tree stays healthy. You can still see the holes from the boot spikes. read more

We made an appointment for Brian, the company owner, to come and look at our trees and give us a bid for work to be done. We were told that he would be here between 2:00 and 4:00. Brian arrived unannounced at 1:15, a time when we were not available. He said that he would come back at 3:00. He never showed up. He never called to say that he would like to arrive before the 2-4 window or to say that he was unable to get back here at 3:00. When I finally reached him by phone, he said that he had to go see his mother and could come back another day. Obviously, despite the long list of commercial customers, this company looks terrible, right from the start. We are looking for a reliable, business-like tree service, and obviously, this company doesn't fit that description. read more

Pilot property management who manages our complex contacted bishop's tree service to remove a dead tree. Sent them a photo of the tree that needed to be removed which they proceeded to cut down the wrong tree? Why due to the fact the lead worker had a old flip phone and the photo was not legible? What could not call to verify the location of the tree? That is so unacceptable of a excuse from Bishop's tree service. They are suppose to be tree experts but could not collaborate with our PM on the job. read more

Bishop Tree Service removed four 55 foot mexican fan palms that were close to our house. They arrived promptly and were very professional. They were very safety conscious, placing protective barriers in front of windows so that the debris from the stump grinder did not break any windows. The very experienced crew worked safely using ropes and pulleys to lower cut trunk sections safely to the ground. The owner, Brian Bishop, was present at various times and very knowledgeable about other trees on our property. They cleaned up afterwards and it was spotless. Highly recommended. I had Bishop's come out to my house to provide a bid for both some tree removal services as well as trimming some of my neighbors trees growing well over my fence line. The pricing was more than reasonable and other than the fact that they had to start at the crack of dawn I was extremely well please with their work ethic, care for the trees they trimmed as well as how thorough they were in clean up. read more

After repeated calls to determine the estimated arrival time I was finally was assured that he would arrive in 45 minutes; 50 minutes later I left after waiting for 2 hours. We have used Bishop's a couple times. Most recently to trim a neighbor's enormous unmaintained tree that was nothing but a nuisance to our property. It took a while to get into their schedule but they had an excellent price and were very professional. We chose Bishop's after the major 2016 windstorm destabilized our super tall California Pepper. I am so impressed by how they transformed our tree's very asymmetrical shape into a pretty, perfectly balanced one. Bishop's came and gave us a quote in October said they could do the work in November. So November comes and no call. Left several messages for Brian. He finally called back and a date was scheduled. At the end of the first day we were informed that the front loader accidentally was booked for the next day. One of his guys came back and tried to finish. It was dark when he left. Second day they came back spent 3 hours and then just left. There is a lot of clean out still left to do. Brian finally called back. He told us he'd be back on a specific day. No show no call. We have left three messages with no response. My parents are in their 80's and they have paid the invoice in full. Should we bet on them coming back?? I think not! We've had problems before with Bishop's. Yeah the old saying first time shame on them....... Well shame on us this time. read more

It looks like another review for poor customer service. I set up an appointment with them on a Friday, they said they would call back with a time....I never heard back from them. I called all morning on that date to find out what time. Finally they called me to say they would be out in 20 min. I said I am at the grocery store and had waited all morning, the Owner said he could come out that afternoon and would call me on his way back from an appointment that day. No call back! I decided to give them a second chance and left a message telling them that they never called me back and I still would like to have them come out and give me a bid. Again, no phone call. I would not use this company. Any Business that has an Owner that does not call back an appointment that he set, is not any Company I would hire. I've got 3-big pines in the backyard that were overgrown with dead branches and dry needles everywhere. In August and September the trees dropped big branches - branches the size of trees. I called Brian and he came out as promised. He said winter time is the right time to trim pines. His office set up a time in early January. Again they came out as promised and did a terrific job. My yard has difficult access and the tree trimmers performed admirably. When done, the yard was cleaner than when they arrived. I'd recommend Bishop to anyone. read more

I made an appointment with Bishops for them to bid on two large pine trees that were in need of lacing and pruning. I was told that someone would be at my house the next day (5/15/14) between 11:00 -3:00. Fortunately I work out of the house so I was able to be productive as I waited around. No phone call and no arrival for the appointment. Not even a call to apologize. I've heard that Bishop's is a good company so I'm not sure what to make of the absolute failure on their end in what looks to be a very competitive field. Mike read more
