Bishop's Post is a refreshing change from the line of big box chain restaurants surrounding the chesterfield area. We took my wife's family there for west county restaurant week to try the new location. Overall we were impressed. The atmosphere is upscale, but not fancy and even thought we didn't sit at it there was a long, spacious, and comfortable bar. Our server was friendly, and our service was relatively timely considering 90% of everyone in the restaurant was ordering the same 4 things. Unfortunately it was pouring rain, otherwise we definitely would have utilized their GIANT patio which looked awesome from the inside. The food was excellent, instead of bread and butter to start like every other restaurant on earth they start you with sweet potato chips and an onion dip. 2 baskets among 6 people were gone pretty quick. We all share appetizers which were all excellent including the arancini, tenderloin bruschetta, and house salad. The tenderloin bruschetta was delicious, but it was really just cheese and beef on a crustini. As far as the entrees went they had some eclectic selections such as quail breast in a lemon butter sauce, that's what I had and it was fantastic. My wife ordered the prime rib, and for restaurant week you generally expect the smaller portions... well apparently they didn't get the memo because she got what looked like a 16 oz. piece of prime rib that was practically falling off the plate. Overall the rib was cooked ok, and the flavor was above average, but well worth it for the meal. Dessert was a gooey butter cake and a kahula chocolate cake. Both were delicious. My wife did the wine pairing with her meal and 3 full glasses of wine, all were excellent. Bishop's post did not disappoint and if you're a movie goer at the mall, just doing to some shopping, or just work in the area this would definitely be my after spot location for a drink or a meal. read more

I finally decided to try Bishop's Post on Friday night. I was unaware that they had happy hour specials until 7 so I was excited I got to try the ap at a discount. The trout was pretty tasty and is supposed to be smoked in house. My criticism is with the accompaniments. The capers were clearly the lowest quality available and the rye was just meh. I feel like the quality of the dish was lessened by the side items. I also was not a fan of the horseradish cream sauce. I understand it's easier to just use what goes with the prime rib but it over powers the capers and onion when a simple cream cheese would do. Next I ordered the Caesar salad and, although fresh tasting, wasn't worth the 8. If the entrees were at a lower price point I could see making up margin with higher cost salads but not the case at BP. I ordered the prime rib for my main and was very happy it came with fresh carrots and green beans as veg was not listed as a side item. They were barely cooked (perfection) and had just the right amount of herbed butter. The baked potato was okay by I'm not really a fan of them. The meat itself was massive and tasty. My concern with it is that although delicious it seemed to be covered in a red wine or had been marinated in a red wine because the texture for mid-rare was way off and the red juice was not natural to a once living mammal. It was still delicious but made me question the cut, quality, and age of meat used. For dessert I ordered the white chocolate bread pudding which was tasty but definitely not a bread pudding or taste like white chocolate. Thankfully the berries used were in season and easily stole the show. I am disappointed I wasn't offered any of the homemade chips. Many other reviews rave about them and I don't know if I'll ever go back. Now for what knocked them down the stars: one controllable, one not. The controllable complaint was the service. They need more staff. Period. I was there a ridiculously long time and other patrons who wanted cocktails while they waited for their tables became frustrated and walked away frequently. The bar tender who served me was also overly fake, kinda creepy, and was trying too hard to sound fancy. My appetizer was not deconstructed anything and I hardly felt like there was contrast in the dessert. Also, the age old "I don't say it often but I mean it when I say that it was an absolute pleasure serving you" was over the top considering we had only the necessary encounters and they were awkward at best. The uncontrollable complaint was the patrons. The who I assume to be regulars were loud and obnoxious and the median age of the guests was at least 55 or 60. I get it, going to an expensive restaurant in chesterfield is a gamble at my age (almost 30) but it was just uncomfortable and I felt judged by the regulars. What this place needs is a juicer at the bar in order to make classic, tasty cocktails where freshness not fancy is the key. I spent much of 2013 in Sydney and I miss the fresh juices most places used in drinks. I longingly stared at the bottle of Bulliet rye on the back bar wishing they had super tart, fresh apple juice with which to mix it. read more

Changes from new owner (Mark) will destroy this place. Mushy pan fried chicken, blue plate specials, and firing of staff that we have come to love has sent us to Yia Yia's and Balabans. Food is inconsistent every time we visit, sometimes good, sometimes ok, tonight...awful. For well over $100 for two people I expect better. A place that we want to love (and have when it was Aqua Vin, Andrias, etc) we now are boycotting. Even when we noticed the food went bad, we loved sitting at the bar with Corey, our favorite bartender. He no longer works there, so we now have no reason to return. Saturday night was a perfect evening to enjoy patio seating and Bishops Post clearly has the best patio in West County. Our table for three was the best part of our evening. We asked if it was okay if we shared food as we were looking to sample the menu and it was a late dinner, 8:30 pm and we wanted to eat light. We were assured it wasn't a problem. From the start our server was flustered. When he greeted us his first question " would you like to start with a cocktail?" I'll admit it's a reasonable question except when all three of us have full drinks that we carried in from the bar sitting in front of us. His offer to bring water was appreciated but it took 15 minutes for that to appear. He was rushed to take our order and when we said we needed a few minutes it took him forever to return.... Our drinks had been sitting empty before he returned to check on us. We each started with a salad, Caesar was good, wedge was by far the best and the caprese was a huge disappointment. Visually it looked beautiful but had ZERO taste. There was no basil just two small pieces of chive... Menu description said basil and red onion. The worst part was that the generous slices of heirloom tomato were tasteless. They must be committing the mortal sin of tomato storage and refrigerating them as the salad was quite chilled. I salt and peppered away but nothing could wake up the flavor of those tomatoes, such a shame when they are in season. We opted to order and share 2 apps and one entree. We asked for salads first and then to have the other food follow , to shared as entrees. It took a very long time to get the salads and we had barely started them when the rest of the food appeared.... Still waiting on our second round of drinks that were always "on their way" Presentation was great on everything served but again no flavor. Calamari was cold, unpleasant for fried food, carpaccio was accompanied by very salty bread which overtook any flavor there may have been. Shrimp and grits were the best part of the meal... Small detail, they knew were were sharing and we had to flag down someone to bring a spoon so we could eat it...again we waited and watched as the temp on that entree dropped. I think it would be a lovely place to sit and enjoy some drinks but I'd pass on the food there was nothing about it that would inspire me to eat there again. Finally we had a VISA gift card they wouldn't honor, still wondering about that one..I have never had a VISA gift card refused at any retail or restaurant that accepts VISA cards. It didn't make sense and in hindsight was the "perfect" ending to an imperfect evening. read more

We had our first visit to Bishop's Post a couple of days ago. I found it to be exceptional and we finally have a place in Chesterfield that is in the same class as Annie Gunn's, though with it's own unique character. We tried the shrimp and grits and the pork chop. Both were exceptional and would rival anything you can get in five star restaurants in other cities. The chef Dave Rook has done a great job in putting together a unique and creative menu without pretension. We are looking forward to going back. read more

Hostess told us there was no room in the (near empty) dining area and asked that we seat ourselves in the bar area, which we were fine with. We sat at a table that had more seats than our 4 person group and was then told that table was reserved (no reserved sign on the table.) For some reason, they did not want our business.. their loss. This is the first time we tried Bishop's Post. I was surprised at the menu,because they call their food "classic comfort fare", but I felt it was a bit more upscale. They provide you with homemade chips and onion dip. I thought that was weird, but the onion dip is delicous. We shared the lamb lollipop appetizer. It was huge - we got 4 small lamb chops. This was enough for an entree. I then had a cup of their gumbo which was very spicy and their iceburg wedge which I was offered the option of having it prechopped. My husband had the duck which he thoroughly enjoyed. I hope this restaurant does well and I plan on coming back. If you can, get a table in the back patio where there is a large waterfall. Disappointing. Came here for a date night with my husband. We were seated at a table far to large for two people. It made conversation difficult and awkward. My husband ordered an Old Fashioned and said it was the worst one he had ever had. Out of several types of liquor. No bread, they claimed there was a rush and they ran out. Our food was not worth the price. Gumbo was average. My green beans were cold and under-cooked. Pork was ok. Other side I didn't care for. My husband's was too hot and he had to wait for it to cool. The staff was really friendly and attentive, the food came in a timely manor so we never felt rushed or like we were waiting. Perhaps it was the menu choices my friend and I made but we were not that impressed. The roasted vegetable fritata was okay but the accompanying fresh fruit could have been riper. The nicoise salad had the saltiest black olives which seemed rather dried out also. Then the waiter dumped the coffee cream onto the table thankfully not getting any on us. The hostess would go around and ask people how everything was but skipped our table twice (we figured she was afraid of what we would say). The waiter called us honey and sweetie -- which we both hate. I think you must have to stick to the comfort foods on the menu as when we left we saw folks with pulled pork sandwiches which looked good. Had lunch here and it was very good. I had the lunch special, Salmon grilled cheese with a side salad. They have a great wine selection and their cocktails looked yummy. The best part of this location is the seclusion and green space you feel while dining on the patio. It was awesome and very tranquil. First let me say that the food I had at this restaurant was good. The service was very good. But I can't say that their food is anything really special. We went for lunch and I had the Harvest Salad and my companion had the Caesar Salad. We both had a bowl of the bean with bacon soup as a starter. As I said, it's not that the food wasn't good or that the service was less than it should be I just didn't think "Wow! That was awesome. I'd go back again for that." In fact, I was kind of underwhelmed by the lunch menu. Maybe I should try going there for dinner and have something more substantial. I just think that since they advertise their food as "American Comfort food" they could be a little more inventive with both their lunch and dinner menus. 6 of us went there at 6:00 on a Wednesday evening. After promptly being seated we waited 10 minutes and finally asked a busboy if we had a waiter. Shortly thereafter a man showed up apologizing saying he was in the kitchen polishing silverware and that he would be our waiter. He promptly stated that they were out of prime rib (a staple on their menu). After ordering drinks the bartender came out to ask my wife how to make a champagne cocktail. Throughout the meal service was poor, although feeble attempts were made to make up for the lack of quality. Upon receiving the check I noticed that the drink special i ordered, a $10 Manhattan, i was charged $11 for it. I only give this 2 stars because the food was better than average. I'm going to give this a four, but it's probably more a three and a half for me. Went at 5 pm on a Saturday with my parents. The place was empty so seated right away, I enjoyed the atmosphere. We had lots of attention from the bus boys but the waitress was a bit on the slow side. They brought out sweet potato chips and Idaho potato chips with a Maui onion dip for the table and they were not stingy with it as some places can be, they refilled it without being asked. I enjoyed the dip a lot but was a little disappointed that chips were not warm. I ordered a moscow mule which I thought was a pretty tasty drink and served in the correct copper mug they are traditionally served in. I had the chicken lasagna which was good but a little over cooked causing chewy noodles. My dad had the fried chicken which he said was nice and moist and cooked perfectly. The chicken looked light and crispy not oily at all. My mom had the Shepards pie, which was more like a beef stew with dollops of mashed potatoes on top. The flavor was really excellent and it had large delicious chunks of beef roast. My mom and dad really enjoyed their meals and intend to return soon. Mine was good, I wouldn't order it again but I would go back to the restaurant and try something else. Over all we thought it was good food for a good price value. read more

Living in the area, I have tried every restaurant that has been in the location. Bishop's Post is good, but not great. I wouldn't say that the food is worth the price, but the food is not bad. Everything is pretty "vanilla." The bacon wrapped shrimp was little overdone and for $15 for 3 shrimp, I would say not worth it. Split a Caesar salad which was very good. I had the pork rib chop and my wife had the yellowfin tuna. Both were good, but definitely did not think it was worth the price. Service was amazing though. Went to an event today st Bishops Post. Most difficult owner/management staff to work with that I have ever experienced.. They changed the event from our planned outside to inside and complained twice about the singer in the designated bar area. Not very accommodating whatsoever Lots of money walked through the door today but we were treated crappy. I will say our server-Amanda was awesome! She was very busy but kept her cool and was on top of things. The food was ok.... nothing to write home about. For a special event I suggest not going there..
