Was excited to go to Bishop's Post again yesterday to see the new outdoor patio. The patio is beautiful, but that's the only good thing I can say. They've done away with happy hour outside, which I think will hurt them. The menu looked good, albeit pricey, but the food was not good at all. Paid $20 for a charcuterie appetizer, and there was barely anything on it. The pasta was swimming in butter and barely edible. I hope they soon figure out that if you're going to charge 4-star dining prices, the food better taste good. I only gave it 3 stars for the ambiance. read more

This review is for the bar area only. I just had appetizers but hope to dine from the full menu soon. This is a stand alone restaurant close to Chesterfield mall. The building is very nice. The decor is modern with a huge bar area. The bar itself is well lit with plenty of bar seating. My friend and I went on a Thursday to try their half price bottles of wine. The wine selection is HUGE! There is something for everyone with a nice variety of price points. We had a pinot grigio with 2 appetizers. The appetizers we tried were the spinach artichoke dip and fried calamari. We both enjoyed the dip. It was plentiful with little square french bread lightly toasted. The calamari was less than stellar. The portion was small and it was not traditional (no rings just fried strips similar to clam strips). It was literally a handful of calamari, at $11 - not a fan! The service was friendly and attentive. The bartender made a few suggestions and was quick to pour. They have an outdoor patio/garden area that I am sure will be packed in the warmer months. Wow! What a delightful surprise. We came here on a 70 degree day in February. We ate outside by the waterfall with heaters. It was comfortable and relaxing. We were greeted warmly by the manager/owner(?) and our server (Ashley) was top top notch! Bishop's Post was well staffed and you could absolutely tell that it was managed with great care and competence to provide an attentive experience. A solid happy hour choice. I've been to Bishop's Post in its previous incarnations and am a fan of the generous, gently curved bar. It is clear that there are a lot of regulars who have staked a claim to spots along the bar; however, I felt welcome even as a newcomer here. Though there are food specials, there is not a specific 'happy hour' drinks menu. With that being said, the bartenders are able to whip up a variety of cocktails. I went with a classic vodka Martini. Bar bites were tasty, especially the tempura vegetables. I would have liked to try the portabella mushroom sliders; the kitchen must have been out of some key ingredient so ended up having the spinach and artichoke sliders instead. Fortunately for me, I am an omnivore. It looks like the TVs are plentiful in the bar area, too, a bonus for any sports fanatic. read more

This is a nice place. The hostess, server, and management all were very accommodating for our larger party. The wine list is pretty extensive, much more so than the food menu. The menu although not huge has a good variety of items. I had the appetizer special which included a bacon wrapped shrimp, crab cake, and beef tenderloin bruschetta. The shrimp was a bit overdone. Crab cake was perfect. Beef tenderloin was different but good. For my entree I had one of the specials which was filet, scallops, mash potato and some roasted vegetables. My husband and I try a new restaurant once a month with a group of friends and someone chose Bishop's Post this past Saturday. Unfortunately, my two-star rating may be generous for the caliber of food we received. The problems started when we first arrived. All of the positive reviews on Yelp had mentioned the sweet potato chips with onion dip served instead of bread as a highlight of the meal and I was disappointed we had not received any. I asked the waitress about it and she said the restaurant no longer served them. To her credit, she checked with the kitchen and produced them for our group. The chips were a little stale but the dip was one of the most flavorful things we had all evening. My husband ordered the four cheese chicken lasagna and described it as "okay". I ordered the beef medallions with cognac peppercorn sauce served with Yukon Gold mashed potatoes. I requested well-done ( I know, not exactly a gourmet) but the beef arrived medium to medium rare. I was hungry so did not send them back but just ate the more-done edges. The beef was decent, sauce was bland. There are no words to aptly describe the potatoes. Actually, no is the perfect word as in NO discernible flavor of potato, NO hint of butter, cream, or any hint of seasoning. They had no taste whatsoever. For 30 bucks, I expect better. The highlight of the meal was the gooey butter cake with raspberry ripple ice cream. The cake did not taste much like gooey butter and was dry but the ice cream was awesome. I only give Bishop's Post two stars because our server was excellent. Our total bill was over $100 for two people with tip and was in no way worth it. We will not be back. read more

This might be 2 stars, but the place is so pretty (especially the patio with the waterfall!) Go for the outdoor view! Get a burger (pretty darn good) and a martini (quite good!) Avoid the crab salad. It was horrible!! BBQ shrimp and calamari also very very nice! Staff is hard working and very pleasant, but the kitchen needs help, and the place might be doomed. A friend offered to take me to dinner for my birthday and suggested Bishop's Post. I have to say that I was presently surprised as the location has seen a number of places come and go. I will leave the food review for others more eloquent. Let me just say it was very good. What stood out to me was the quality of the service, including the owner pitching in, and the friendliness of the staff. I do not know about you, but I have difficulty finding a restaurant, especially in Chesterfield, with a both quality AND friendly wait staff. 5 STAR! I will most certainly be back. A mixed eating experience that's very good when things work but gets muddled with a few disconnects. We ate early ordering sea scallops and fried chicken. The scallops came (not mentioned on the menu as an ingredient) sprinkled with bacon crumbs but the manager was only too willing to replace the entire plate. The chicken was ordered with sweet English peas. Overall, the scallops (with string beans, squash, and carrot caramelized gaze--extraordinaire) were very well prepared, proportioned and paired well with the vegetables and was delicious. The fried chicken was under-seasoned but good as were the mashed potatoes and sweet peas (also sprinkled with bacon). The restaurant is quite beautiful and inviting sitting nestled on the hem of a luscious garden, waterfall and verdant berm. No obtrusive music or TV monitor blare. However, wait staff gathering nearby can be a little noisy. There is plenty of seating inside and out. Service was good but perhaps in keeping with its comfort food theme played a little too casual for our taste. It's expensive comfort food with a few areas where the experience, decor and fare get a little muddled in execution. The manager promises future menu printings will mention the bacon sprinkles that accompany the pescaterian's scallops. read more

I've been here multiple times. The happy hour drink specials are great. The food is absolutely disappointing. The fried oyster and shrimp is a $17 dish. You get three oysters and three shrimp with two sauce ramekins. Basically reminded me of an any-tizer from the frozen food section of the grocery store. For $17. The taco of the day was fish tacos, for $15. You get two small tacos with no garnish or side, for $15. It was tasty but over priced. The flatbread of the day was pesto, steak, and tomato. The crust was good but basically a pizza of left over food for $15. I miss the chef from Oceano. The newer menu is low quality and over priced. read more

We had a birthday celebration for 8 people planned here Friday night. We walked with a cake and were greeted by a very unfriendly lady and the first thing out of her mouth was "you will be charged $25 for bringing the cake in". I told her we planned on cutting the cake ourselves, but that didn't matter. Her tone and approach was so abrasive everyone in our party was very turned off, so we told her we were leaving, and she didn't care at all that they would loose the dinner business from a party of 8. My family and I have been to Bishop's post multiple times. Sometimes the food's not fresh, cold, or the order is incorrect, so we ask for a remake of the food. After the lunch today, we were told by the manager herself that it is not okay to send back food when it's not up to quality and freshness. And when her server treated us with a bad attitude and terrible service, it was also not okay to not tip. On top of that, the manager told us not to come back. In my opinion, the manager was extremely unprofessional in resolving matters to make sure their customers are happy as well as making improvements in their business. After all, we don't need to come back to a restaurant that cannot manage to have professional standards and treat customers with respect. read more

I found Bishop's Post while searching for a location for my son's rehearsal dinner. I was thrilled to have such a beautiful space, The Garden Room and its adjacent waterfall, for this event. We ate several times at the restaurant before the "big day," and have never been disappointed. From the friendly, chatty bartenders, to the attentive servers, to the host/hostess who stop by to make sure everything is acceptable, you are left feeling that everyone wants you to enjoy your experience. The food is fantastic - and reliably so. My favorite, the bone out chicken is consistently terrific. My guy's favorite is the fried chicken. He raves about it to anyone who listens. It really is that good. A shoutout to Stacey LaBarbera is in order. She made all preparations for the rehearsal dinner easy. She gave ideas on room design, asked a ton of questions, gave lots of food options, and was highly attentive during the actual event. I even think she arranged for a beautiful August night. :) Everyone raved about the place, the food, and the setting. Went with four friends for lunch. The bare bones lunch menu offered few choices. At 11:30a they were already out of the chicken salad for sandwiches, but one could get it on a platter. Odd. Servings were especially small for the trio platter, plus the blob of cheese on the plate was tasteless. My house salad seemed to be from a bag you buy at the grocery. It was overpriced and served with hardly any dressing. Plus it did not set well with me due to the hot weather and lack of ICE in my drink. The lobster roll was served on bread too hard to eat, but the lobster was good. Be aware, bread is not served at lunch time, only at dinner. It was a hot day and condensation from our drinks was all over the table. Coasters were not provided and drink refills came without ICE. I had to ask for ICE. The helper brought a small cup of ice that was shared with four people. But, to top off the overall disappointing meal and service, there was no toilet paper in the women's bathroom! Pre-Covid this place was much better, but now, my advice is don't go for lunch. If you go for dinner be aware of the limited overpriced menu. The birthday treat was good! Attentive service and good food. We arrived at 5:30 on a Friday, thinking it was early enough to not need a reservation. However, the excessive heat had closed the patio. Fortunately, the manager came over and said they could squeeze us in before they had to start holding tables for the 7:00 reservations. They had two big parties coming in. The server was very nice, chatty but not overly so, and all staff kept drinks full and dishes cleared. It did take a while for the entrees to arrive though, but that was a minor quibble. The wife ordered a house salad that was pretty large and had an interesting mix of julienne veggies on the lettuce. Grated Parmesan on top was quite generous. My spicy seafood gumbo was pretty good, but the $6 cup was pretty darn small. My shrimp & grits were outstanding. Lot of andouille sausage and pork belly cubes in there, and a good amount of large shrimp, too. At first I only saw three, and was a bit perturbed. But closer inspection revealed six shrimp, which actually filled the dish. Sweet corn and halved grape tomatoes (and cheddar cheese) rounded it out. There was a goodly flavor and spice, but the spice was not hot. The wife's grilled chicken picatta was juicy, with fresh grilled asparagus. Ambiance is the ONLY thing going for this establishment. Take that back our waitress Nina was nice. She was rushed and seemed totally overwhelmed. We LOVE trying new places to eat. This was not a good experience. Our reservation was at 6. We were there a few minutes early. It took 15 minutes for the hostess to show up at the front to greet us. Seriously, it was the dinner hour and there was NO ONE at the front of the restaurant. Once seated it took 15 minutes to get water. We ordered wine 20 minutes to get wine. We ordered dinner and salads. Another 30 minutes for salads and 30 minutes later dinner actually came. I wish I could say it was worth the wait. Nina was nice and even took my wife's $12 gumbo off the ticket. The bowl of gumbo is smaller than a large chili at a Wendy's. read more

Our servers were both named Jade and did a FABULOUS job serving drinks and keeping the buffet filled for over 40 people! Had a wonderful time! The food was great, and Jade J suggested a 'signature drink' for the evening that we called 'The Redhead'. What fun!
