Came her last week for dinner and drinks with friends and it was better than the first time! We were seated downstairs in a booth, which I love; the seats against the wall were old church pews which was very cool. I love that the tables are covered in white paper and drawing pencils are provided for you. Nice detail that we didn't experience sitting at the bar. The night we went was also a special beer night, where beer from a particular brewery (I forget which one) was $5/each. We also got a free pint glass! This time we got the crispy Brussels sprouts and mussels for an appetizer. The sprouts were amazing and crispy, served with porcetta and a black garlic aioli that was out of this world. The mussels were also very good; plentiful and flavorful, served with chunks of crispy bread to soak up the broth. I had the duck pizza which is a MUST TRY. It was very different, sort of sweet and savory, but every bit as amazing as I thought it would be. The cheeses on it were perfectly gooey, and complimented the fig, duck, and duck egg. The only disappointment was that there was no olive oil and sea salt ice cream; I was in the mood to be adventurous and try it. HOWEVER the pistachio ice cream was superb. A large serving served with a delicious cookie. The servers are generally hipster-ish, but super friendly, honest, and with good suggestions. read more

I finally made it here after making plans to go multiple of times in the past year or so. I had reservations for 8:30. We didn't get seated until 9:10 . . . . they forgot about us. But, since my dinner partner and I were enjoying the vibe of the place and each other's company, we didn't mind too much. On to the food: We shared the 5 selection salami and cheese platter. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. I'm a sucker though for good smoked meat. We shared the wild boar bolognese - again amazing, and the fennel sausage pizza. The pizza - not so amazing. The sausage itself was very good, but the pizza crust was lackluster. We ended the night with the olive oil and sea salt ice cream. B/c why not? Something different. After multiple tastes, we both decided it was good, but not a flavor we would order again. I definitely would return to try some of the other appetizers and pasta dishes. read more

I went here a few weeks ago with some friends and had an amazing time. It was one of their busier nights but they had everything running smoothly. We didn't have to wait long for our table and once seated the server immediately came over to get our drink orders. The food was also on point. We started out with the olives and calamari as apps. I would also recommend getting any of their three bruschetta. I've ordered a different one each time I've gone. The bread is thick and the sauce they use is delicious! For the pizza, we got the Puttanesca but I've also had the Pistachio Pesto. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The toppings they use are all so unique which is a nice change from the same old ingredients. The portion size is perfect for two people. I would probably order two pizzas if you have 3-4 in your party. Towards the end of dinner the chef even came over to see how we liked everything which was a perfect touch to the perfect meal. read more

My husband and I held an engagement party for our daughter, Taylor and future son-in law Ian at Birroteca at their Baltimore location. We reserved and began planning our engagement party back in October with Jordan DePriest. From the initial discussion through that evening of the engagement party,Jordan was outstanding. What was particularly helpful was her strong communication skills and quick response as we live 7 hours away and was not able to view the space or know the best items on the menu / quantities. Her responsiveness, ideas, enthusiasm, positivity, and "can do" attitude and approach, were greatly appreciated. The atmosphere( used private room upstairs) food and service were perfect for us and our 50 guest. Our guests are still talking about the amazing food and incredible service!! Thanks to Jordan and the entire crew at Birroteca for making the evening a very special event and memory!! read more

Been back to this restaurant a number of times, and my experience gets better and better. Tonight we enjoyed pizza with prosciutto and arugula, orrichetta with broccoli rabe, and gnocchi with asparagus, along with glasses of red. All quite good. I loved the gnocchi, but my table mates were not as enthused. The place was packed for a Sunday and love the atmosphere. The Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. read more

A great place to spend a weekday evening at Birroteca. We are exploring well-known restaurants in our area, after living here for last twenty-five years. I am very happy that some of these great restaurants are in and around Baltimore. And they are serving the class of food & drinks with great ambience and service. So, the best part of this place was, we were treated royally serving sample drinks made of Vermont Honey Based Gin. More than the drinks, I enjoyed the interaction with the gentleman. The specialty drinks based on the Gin were very creative and enjoyable. The fried eggplant, brochette and fried cheese toast (do not remember exact name) were well presented and had great sauces. We were impressed with bar staff and others who took care of us, the way they approached a customer and served either the food or the drinks. It was very polite and respectful. Good job Nick, keep it up. A suggestion, we noticed a customer who had ordered Brussels sprouts, and we felt that the portion size was quite large. I would not comment, if this guest eat all of it, but did not. Hate to see such great food going waste. Birroteca - may be reduce the plate size. read more

Sweet restaurant/bar situated in a corner of a hampden block without other commercial places near it. It's quite popular so possibly call ahead just to make sure you don't have to wait too long. They have a nice mix of charcuterie stuff, cocktails, and small plates. Enough options for vegetarians. Cool, bustling hangout ambiance. read more

Everybody deserves a second chance and a Yelp Elite bash at Birroteca seemed like the perfect opportunity to try this hot spot again. This time I had a much better experience. The arancini, pizzas, Kale salad, brussel sprouts and Texas toast with burrata and roasted tomatoes or arugula, fresh Parmesan and prosciutto were delightful with a nice balance of flavors and excellent consistencies. With a great selection of beers on tap and competent mixologists, this place can shine. Now I want to come back and try the advertised pig roast and oysters on Sundays. Ahh the sweet taste of redemption. read more

Food: 4.5, and the service shoots it to a 5! It's rare that I will actually write a review immediately after returning from a meal, but Birroteca is a one of a kind kinda joint. I went in on the recommendation of friends but really had low expectations for what I assumed was a "pizza & beer joint." UHM, NO. WRONG. Birroteca is a sweet, family-style "new Italian" place with top ingredients and rotating daily specials of seasonal and fresh foods.....so enjoyable! The four of us shared two salads (loved the fresh beets and the strawberry with FAVA beans) and two pizzas...I personally preferred the sweet/savory balance of the Duck Duck Goose to the simple prosciutto pie, but all in all I loved their savory crust and well-balanced pizzas. ALSO very surprised by the Budino, which is a dessert blending polenta and Nutella (WHAT?!) with a beautiful Olive Oil Ice Cream (normally NOT my thang, but executed to perfection). Definitely try! Most impressive was the absolutely top notch service -- not overbearing in the least, and attentive to our table in spite of a busy Tuesday evening. The server brought over the bottles of wine (rather than just filled glasses) and allowed us to taste the wines before pouring the glasses. Suffice to say, I will be back. read more

Updating my previous review as a solo diner at the bar on a weeknight, I had a bit of an underwhelming experience overall. I ordered a side of crispy brussel sprouts with coppa, which arrived with one small slice of coppa atop a mile-high pile of sprouts burned to a crisp. I understand the concept, but first was put off by the minimal coppa and second the sprouts left such a lingering bitter aftertaste, I was downing water to try to escape it. A second bartender noticed my disappointment in the lack of coppa and provided a few extra slices for me when I explained my confusion. After being recommended an ill conceived white wine pairing with my pasta dish (burrata ravioli with melted cherry tomatoes and basil) I felt like I had to say something and the same bartender who assisted me prior was very receptive and comped the glass of wine and the bitter sprouts. I indicated that I eaten here before and had a good experience, but couldn't ignore this disappointing meal. He acknowledged my comment and was friendly. Looks like they're still trying to work out some of the kinks here. read more

Had been wanting to come here for a while and finally came a month or two ago. It wasn't the amazing experience I had hoped for but I loved the interior of the restaurant and the ambiance. Service was friendly and the waitstaff attire is the typical hipster wardrobe... flannels, beards, and glasses. I got the "apple of my eye" martini and it was probably one of the best drinks I've ever had. Perfect for fall. My friend and I both got salads (caesar for me, the chopped kale for my friend) and split the spicy fennel sausage pizza. I kinda hated my salad, the dressing was kind of sour and egg-free so not creamy at all, and my friend liked hers, minus the raisin vinaigrette (why is that a thing?!). The pizza was really good and not intensely spicy. The dessert menu looked enticing but we had already planned on feeding our addiction to the ice cream at the Charmery. Would definitely come back. read more

This is a pretty cool place. The atmosphere and music were chill. The bartenders were nice and accommodating. I ordered the pork belly to start which had a candied glaze--delicious. I ordered the pasta carbonara which was also good. Then I topped that off with homemade banana's foster ice cream--oh yeah! And I took home the duck duck goose pizza--good. I will be back! read more

This restaurant was hard to find! But it is so worth it. We were there for a yelp event and the staff was awesome with the crowd of people. The beer on tap was yummy and the food is just an explosion of wonderous taste. Pizza, bruschetta, brussel sprouts (roasted with bacon, BEST THING EVER), big hunks of bread with aioli and prosciutto, caesar salad, and more. Everything was expertly cooked, served hot (and with a big smile), and tasted great. I do not know how I have missed this Baltimore gem, but the intimate atmosphere and great food is going to have me going back again and again. This place is not to be missed! read more

EPIC. I'm not much of s pizza/pasta guy but wanted a casual place for dinner, and two of my local friends highly recommended it. I had no idea it was going to be this fabulous. Pizza and pasta my ___! Mussels were good, the gravy was dunkable with the house made bread from pizza dough... Those price sensitive, they charge for bread and you will want a couple orders. The wild boar pappardelle was off the charts. Both the Caesar and beet salads were excellent. Brussels were wonderful. My guests loved the risotto and gnocchi, which j didn't taste as j was way passed stuffed when they and the two pizzas came. Duck pizza and the fennel sausage pie. Ok, we over ordered for 4... Lol. But seriously, the food was excellent. Must try. read more

I admit, driving up to the place, I was skeptical as the area and location seemed a little too off the main area of Hampden. But once inside, it is very nice. Hipster chic. The pizza was very good, and the beer selection was also a positive. The Brocollini is a must to try. Only gripe was having a reservation and being stuck at a hightop in the bar right at the corner of the bar and kitchen opening, so our table was being bumped into all the time. read more

Have you been here? Craft pizza, craft beer, craft cocktails!?! I come every so often - it's a little off the beaten path, so I sometimes forget about it. It turns out they are great for groups; I hosted an alumni happy hour here, and the server, Dave, was spot on. He had all of our checks perfectly and managed to deal with over 20 separate checks. I don't recommend any of you put your server through that, but he deserves some credit. They have great happy hour specials - $5 beers and wines. Birroteca also has an inspired menu that encourages family style sharing. I went with a charcuterie and cheese plate (surprised?) with prosciutto, copa, an aged cheddar, blue style goat cheese and robiola (soft and creamy like brie). Plenty of bread and fancy toppings that truly enhance the flavors, especially the candied walnuts and the stewed tomatoes - I need to find out where they hide that spice. I also shared in some of the calamari. I think they have THE BEST CALAMARI in the city and possibly best ever. I don't always tell everyone it's not fried, for fear that they will not order it. Its sautéed - in a lemony, garlicky, capery, olive oil. I have never had calamari that has been cooked, not fried and manages avoid being rubbery or tough. They have one hell of a chef. I was super lucky and there were a bunch of folks around who offered to share their pizza. I had nibbles of several different ones. The prosciutto pizza - a slightly spicy red sauce topped with cheese, prosciutto, arugula and melted tomatoes. The sausage pizza is just what is sounds - fantastic spicy fennel sausage on a traditional red sauce and mozz cheese pizza. My favorite of the night is only for us accidental foodies. They call it the Duck, Duck, Goose - there isn't a red sauce on this one - the sauce is a combo of balsamic vinegar, Asiago, fontina, and fig jam. They top this pizza with duck confit and a sunny side up duck egg - whaaaaa?! Go. Go Now. Get that pizza. You might wanna play that kids game while you wait, but as soon as the pizza arrives, you will be moving quickly into musical chairs. read more

This is a combination review but mostly for the amazing Bartender/DJ Christine. When you walk into the restaurant you realize they have the mood lighting down. It's a little dark, but not impossible to see. The most striking thing I noticed when I walked in was that 'Ego Death' x The Internet was playing. Not only is that a PERFECT album, it set the mood for a fun group meal. For the next few hours it was one dope hit after the other. It perfectly complimented the meal and we were honestly jamming the whole time. It also wasn't lost on my that Christine skipped 'Ignition' x Robert Kelly each time it came on lmao. She played Lauryn Hill and I was honestly swept away. Christine was so amazing that I want to come back the next time she is at the bar. She was cute and clearly has a good ear for music. I'm new to Maryland and I honestly missed the feeling of being in a place that feels intimate without being cramped that has great music and excellent food. Come as soon as you are able, whenever Christine is around. You seriously will not be disappointed. She's a gem. The food was great as well. I was able to try the Gnocchi (bomb) and one of the pizzas (great). I had the salmon poke (yum!) and the calamari (grilled and not fried, surprising and amazing). I'd def go back for the food but I am primarily going back for Christine lol. read more

Went back for a second try, as all of our foodie friends kept telling us that Birroteca was their favorite restaurant. We loved the intensely craft beer friendly MD Beer-loving vibe but it was certainly more heightened than usual with the HomebrewCon in town. We were squeezing this place between stops & had just had a big meal so we only made room for a meat/cheese board and a couple beers. Our server Christine was beyond adorable. She was so enthusiastic about the beer, the whole place felt so much more happy and exciting because of her upbeat brand of earnest hospitality. Cannot wait to return one day for a full meal and many more amazing craft beers. read more

Burroteca Is one of the better pizza places in the Hampden area. We arrived early through a booking on Open Table and were quickly seated. The atmosphere is definitely cottage / industrial with close tables and mellow lighting in the main dining room. Not bad at all. Food-wise, we ordered the Double D and Prosciutto pizzas that were very tasty. We also ordered the kale salad that ended up being soggy and drenched with house dressing (this we returned after two attempts to get it corrected). The GM made a great recovery by asking us about our concern, apologizing and using the feedback for the kitchen. All in all, the experience and food was pretty good. It would be 5 stars with a relating the food quality giving it a top notch value proposition. Enjoy the eats there fellow Yelpers! read more

Love love love! My husband and I have been coming here for years, it is our favorite spot to come for dinner after a long Friday and unwind... good drinks, great food, but better people. On a whim we decided to stop by the bar and grab dinner... Griffin was AMAZING!!! He was kind, helpful, but most of genuine. He allowed us to try several beers before we found the right one (mine was better then my husband ;) ) Over all a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend! read more

Stopped by after work for dinner and can't wait to come back! Started with the crispy brussels sprouts - comes topped with bacon and a side of black garlic aioli. The aioli is so delicious, our waitress was awesome and even brought us some more. The portion is huge and we ate it so fast I didn't even get the chance to take a pic! We had to try the duck duck goose after reading all the rave reviews and it did not disappoint. Also ordered the ricotta cavatello pasta with venison, also very delicious . The portions are pretty big so we ended up taking some leftovers home. Overall the food is delicious, but the menu is very heavy on meat which is a minus for me. The place is nice, casual atmosphere, plenty of parking, service was great. Can't wait to come back, especially for the brussel sprouts. read more

SUMMARY: More like 3.5 stars... FULL STORY: Dinner on a weeknight - not too crowded - place is relaxed, stone walls and funky lighting, also has patio seating. Best thing we tried was the burrata. Fresh, dairy taste with delicious flavorful pesto and roasted tomatoes. Fantastic. They have some amazing-looking veggie options, but we were uuunpleasantly surprised. Most (all?) of the veggie dishes are fried. Best one was the cauliflower - had a good texture and it's well-seasoned. Otherwise, the brussels sprouts were not so great... too oily, not really crispy, and mostly tasted like salt. The eggplant fries came in a big order, but again... pretty greasy and just not that flavorful even with the spicy mayo. Pretty disappointed on the pizza -- would not recommend it. Margherita is usually a go-to classic... Crust was not tender or flavorful - seemed bland, hard, and oily. The mozzarella didn't seem fresh and was overly melted and greasy. Even red pepper flakes couldn't redeem it. Best thing on the pizza were the mini tomatoes. Lots of better pizza options in the area. Dessert - the home-made kit kat is ok because chocolate and hazlenut are ok... but it's basically nutella - too soft and squishy. Not as good as Alma's kit kat. Ice cream was... ice cream. Overall -- too much grease, not enough flavor, little over-priced. Would try it again for the setting and burrata - maybe better as a HH spot? Note: plenty of lot parking. read more

We went on a Saturday night and had a very nice dining experience. We started with the eggplant fries and the grilled calamari. Both were excellent. The calamari was some of the most tender I have ever had. For our main course we both had the clam pasta, which was very tasty, and a goat cheese and ricotta cheese cake. The service was very courteous, attentive and prompt even though there was a large party next to us. My only complaint was that the main courses came out a bit too quick while we were still eating our appetizers. Other than that, the evening was spotless. read more

I had the pleasure of going here last night with a friend. We called ahead while we were on our way to make sure that we got a table in the bar area. I would suggest calling ahead and making a reservation. The beer selection was very good with an excellent draft list. I went with the mushroom pizza and it was SO good and there was enough for me to take some home for the next day. Make sure to save some room for dessert the olive oil ice cream was wonderful. And yes, this place does have a slight hipster thing going down, but the food is so good who cares! Went here on Saturday with a friend and was surprised to have such a wonderful experience. My date and I sat at the bar after luckily seeing two spots available. The parking lot made it seem like the wait would take an hour, but we got service upon sitting down. Food - This place has amazing pasta! I ordered the orecchiette and it was divine. The waitress and cheese expert Sidney was amazing too! If you sit at the bar, make sure to say hello to her and ask about the cheese selection! She gave amazing service and definitely made me want to come back! read more

Pizza is a crowded market in Baltimore, but this stood out to me. The duck duck goose pizza had duck confit on it and was quite tasty. I went here with my 5 girlfriends for a birthday celebration. Upon arriving, we made the reservation for a "birthday." Additionally, I talked to the manager to tell him that our friend was turning 21 and it would be nice to have a little candle / cupcake to celebrate. Not only did that never arrive, but the food took over an hour and 45 minutes to come. Oh, and the best part? I ordered the steak, which came out cold and unpresentable. I asked to send it back and heat it up, and it came back cold. I was very disappointed with the service and my meal; however, my friend's pizzas and pastas were delicious. read more

Have been here a couple of times now so this is a mish mash of our visits. Once with a group of 6 on a friday night (they put us on the bar side and it was very crowded and noisy). The other time on a monday (table for 2 on dining side. Quieter and much quicker service as you would expect). The calamari (I normally like them fried but this sauteed version is awesome) and mussels for appetizers were the big hits with the group. The meatballs were very pretty on the plate though they came out on the cool side. For an entree I had the Pappardelle (wild boar bolognese) which was very tasty and rich with flavor. On the pizza side we liked the Duck duck goose, Margherita and Spicy Fennel Sausage. The Prosciutto could've benefited from a little red sauce as it is pretty salty. The wine and beer selections are of a decent variety and a good compliment to the food offered. If it were a little less expensive we would be back again and again. read more

Went to Birroteca Baltimore on Friday night for a work dinner with some out of town colleagues. Once again, Birrotecca did an outstanding job. We love the decor of the old mill building and its transformation into a restaurant. I particularly like the bar. Very comfortable place to sit, relax and enjoy a drink. Bartenders are solid, friendly and knowledgable. Special mention to Zen. We were seated right on time in the upstairs dining room, which I had requested. Also great space! Hope to do a private event there in the fall. Two people ordered the mushroom pizza and now I understand why people rave about it. Truly an excellent menu option. We shared two salads (two for a table of five), which was more than enough, and three pizzas. Between that and the wine options, we were definitely satisfied. Loved the salted carmel ice cream and the Italian kit kat for dessert. Sean was our waiter. He was constantly attentive and responsive. Scott in the kitchen also gets a special mention. Managers Sherri and Chris greeted us, checked in during the meal, and made a point of seeing us out, all despite being clearly busy on a Friday night. No hesitation to recommend Birrotecca Baltimore. Will be back soon. read more

Really disappointed overall. I was expecting a lot more based on what I have heard about this restaurant. This was my first time at Birroteca. Met with a group of friends (6 of us total) for dinner. The food was ok, though honestly I'm not convinced it's worth the prices, but the bigger issue was the server for our table. Never told us his name. He was MIA during the majority of our visit. At one point he was behind the bar hanging out with the bartender. At one point he was watching the basketball game that was on. I was trying to get his attention because my appetizer still had not been served, although the rest of my party had already finished theirs (ps I got it after I was half way through my entree). He came over to the table and said "oh yeah I saw you looking at me so I guess you need something." I need you to do your job, sir. We waited almost 40 minutes after we were all clearly done eating for him to bring the check. A different server came back to get our cards. Super rude also. We split our payment between two cards: $60 on one and the remaining balance on the second. Not so hard. She commented, "Are you gonna write that down for me?" I think she was trying to be funny but it was not. Other fails during our experience: one member of my party had to order the same glass of wine twice before she actually got it. And the waiter mocked her for speaking quietly. I was told that the bar didn't have the ingredients to make the first two cocktails I tried to order. My husband ordered a Caesar salad and asked for grilled chicken breast on it and was told that there was no chicken. I understand you're trying to have a certain "foody vibe" with unique choices, but come on, you don't have a chicken breast??? Overall really disappointed. I was expecting something much different and much better. Update: Just got a text message from my friend who was supposed to get charged $60 to her card. She was charged an additional $20. She told me that's not the first time this has happened to her at this restaurant. read more

Went on a Friday night without a reservation, which I won't do again. We were fortunate enough to get the only table they don't reserve, which was potentially by a drafty door, but it didn't matter to us. So, word to the wise, make a reservation! Food was delicious (we got the polenta and eggplant, and duck duck goose pizza). The beverage selection is also great and mostly local, which is even better. Service was good and atmosphere was nice. The owner came around at the end of our meal to introduce himself and check in. That was a nice touch. I'd definitely go back. read more

Cool place, pizza quality apparently depends on the night. I was part of a party of 5 on a Tuesday night. For 3 us, it was the first time. Same day reservation was impossible if we wanted a table before 8:30pm, so it's a popular place! Staff was accommodating since we got there 1.5 hours early--hung out at bar and was seated off to the side of the bar at around 7:45, so they helped us out. Apps were outstanding (brussel sprouts, wow), the pizza was "ah". Our friends who had been before said it was better last time. Not enough cheese, crust mediocre (too hard? thick? whatever, it was not a standout at all). The speakers directly above you if seated in the bar-adjacent tables are terrible if you want to have a conversation. Cool vibe, great service, get the pizza up to snuff, guys! read more
