First time having lavender coffee and it was amazing. It wasn't overly powerful and left a pleasant after-taste. Everyone here was really nice as well. Just a couple things to note with the new guidelines with covid: Only 6 per table, no outside food, and you need to fill out a sheet for contact tracing (which I personally think is great). This is a great place to grab a warm drink with family/friends and to sit outside or go for a walk. Would recommend! read more

Probably the best pour over coffee I've had in the greater Detroit area. I've visited most of the "Third Wave" coffee shops in the greater Detroit area (5 on my most recent visit to the greater Detroit area) and Birmingham Roast gave me the best tasting pour over coffee. I visited BR on a Tuesday afternoon and ordered a naturally processed coffee from either Peru or Ethiopia. Naturally processed coffees are typically very fruity in flavor and aroma and this coffee lived up to the expectations. The fruity aromas and flavors were undeniable! There was a great balance in the cup. The acidity level was pleasant, not too strong. It was naturally sweet and had an enjoyable aftertaste. I loved the coffee so much I was so sad I couldn't go back for another cup before I left the area. If I didn't have enough coffee at home I would have bought a bag of the coffee to brew it at home. BR is serious about coffee. BR uses a copper Hario kettle and V60 dripper to brew pour overs and a beautiful La Marzocco espresso machine. Their decision to use copper probably has more to do with wanting consistency in the design of the shop and the equipment, but still. The cafe is beautiful, functional, inviting, and relaxing. dPOP did a fabulous job. I can't wait to visit BR again when I revisit family nearby. read more

After months of hearing how great this place is - I finally visited!!! And let me tell you - it's amazing! The ambiance is very welcoming and provided great coffee shop vibes! I ordered an iced lavender latte since it was 85 degrees outside (which is not often in Michigan). The latte was amazing and the cup it came in had great branding. I also got a brownie - which was amazing! The menu is awesome and there are tons of food options too - rare in a coffee shop setting. The owner of the shop is very humble and introduced himself to my friend and I. Super nice guy and great conversationalist. I will be back and want to try the food options for lunch. The iced Golden Joy is possibly the best coffee ever created, soy milk makes it even tastier. Kind service but only issue is not enough seating. They just added more seating outdoors but of course cold Michigan doesn't help. read more

A modern, lovely coffee shop. I stumbled upon this place on a walk after a barre class. Their latte menu looked delicious, and had a variety of crafted flavors compared to your regular coffee shop. While I can't speak on their coffee or food just yet, I did get an iced peach green tea which was refreshing. The prices are comparable to Starbucks. The employees were also incredibly nice and the service was fast. Would come here for a catch up with a friend or to sip a drink while people watching in downtown Bham. read more

100 times yes! One of the best cups of coffee I've had. The decor is great-huge fan of copper and black. The layout is simple and clean. Tables have chargers built in so you feel comfortable staying and doing work. You can even get images printed on your latte foam! From espressos, to lattes, to pour-overs, you cannot go wrong. The food options are great as well, both sweets and savory. The staff is super friendly and has great recommendations. For sure go on a Saturday morning and your weekend will be made. read more

I adore this new coffee shop in Birmingham! The people here are so freaking nice that you can't help but want to keep coming back, shout out to Jenny and Andy who made it a point to ask my name! Now let me tell you about something magical, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking I'm going to say the "Kuppa Joy" because that's what all the other reviews said. Wrong!! While it is magical, the Golden Joy is even more magical! Ok, so it's basically the same thing with caramel minus chocolate, which to me is delicious. Please get one and thank me later (in gift cards to here). I haven't tried any food yet but I was very excited to see they have gluten free banana bread that looked yummy. I will be trying that soon! Now, let's discuss logistics. It's Birmingham so parking kind of sucks. This coffee shop is in the back of the new Lady James head quarters. There is NO street parking on either side. There is a garage around the corner but you do need to pay to park there. The seating is limited but nice and there are some outside tables as well. New favorite spot! read more

Today was my first visit to Birmingham and Birmingham Roast was the first business I patronized. Unfortunately, it wasn't a good experience. The environment was overcrowded, cramped and loud - both outside and inside. It was a hot summer day and the only available table on the outside patio wasn't shaded sufficiently and too uncomfortable to sit in. The inside seating area was small, cramped, and overall very loud - in terms of both crowd volume and music volume. The space seemed inappropriate in terms of acoustics as well as size and layout for the optimal logistical flow required to accommodate the amount of customers. I ordered the "fan favorite" Avocado toast, an iced Almond Joy Latte and an orange juice. It was almost $20. When ordering I was asked if I wanted to add an egg to my toast and I said yes and I requested it to be cooked over medium/hard. My food was disgusting. It was both cold and soggy at the same time, and very messy to eat on the small very narrow bamboo plate I was given, lined with a loose thin piece of wax paper on top which ripped and fell apart as I was cutting into my food. The toast was cold and chewy with super hard crust, the avocado had several brown spots, it was covered in arugula that wasn't fresh, and my egg was undercooked and very runny - done over easy at most which was not what I ordered. Because of the chaos and long wait time, I didn't have the time or energy to deal with the task of requesting different food. I was just beginning my day here. My iced latte was ok but unfortunately since I was so anxious to leave and it was such a hot day, it didn't stay cold and melted very quickly once I left the cafe. At the end of my day against my better judgement but since I was parked nearby - I returned to Birmingham Roast a second time to buy a bag of coffee beans and to get a cold drink for the road. Again, I spent around $20. It was just as crowded as ever (if not more) and I had to wait an unreasonable amount of time in a long line because the person ordering at the front of the line was taking so long. I could see what she was getting on the order screen, and it was just one uncomplicated thing (an egg breakfast) plus some kind of a discount was being added. It seemed like the cause of the delay was happening due to a discussion about applying the discount, which really rubbed me the wrong way. I don't understand the popularity of this cafe. My perception of it was nowhere near to the level that the website portrays it to be (especially on that "fan favorite" avocado toast) - to the point where I consider it to be false advertising. I soon plan to dispute the charges to my credit card. read more

What an absolutely amazing spot! The atmosphere in here is incredible, people are so nice and welcoming, friendly good vibes! We took Lavender Breeze Lemonade iced and "Nerds Drink" which is a lavender lemonade with raspberry oolong tea, and it was absolutely fantastic and delicious and refreshing There are tables with outlets and fast wifi, so the place is just perfect! I was in town to visit my family and decided to grab some coffee and a bit of breakfast at BR. First... What a cool place! Has that coffee shop vibe and the staff was super friendly. Came here to catch up with a friend on Sunday morning. Coffee was amazing. Breakfast needs some work. The French toast was served cold and hard. The avocado toast would have been good if they didn't put guacamole and then fresh avocados on top. It didn't make sense and tasted strange. Not sure if I'd eat here again but I would definitely grab coffee again. read more

I ordered delivery from here and what a disaster my order was. Do you like to shower in cinnamon or did you accidentally just put it in everything? The muffins both blueberry and strawberry and coffee cake alll tasted OF CINNAMON, not good at all and not only that, soooo dry I CHOKED TWICE. If you wanna get money for products, make sure thyre worth selling first please, thanksssssssss. Salmon bagel was HORRENDOUS. STAIL ASF how dare you sell something so dry and stail and barely edible. Coffee: 3 Service: 5 Let's average this one out to a 4. I might have just come in with my hopes too high for BR. I think the coffee was just... ok. The espresso in my caramel latte was bitter. The caramel syrup was homemade and the barista made the latte JUST sweet enough for me. I must say, I appreciate that. The inside of the shop is really cute and good for working for a while. The bathroom was really dirty when I was there, but it was also really busy. The baristas were really friendly and sweet. They did not seem bothered by my many questions (about my allergies). read more

I usually get the smoked salmon on an everything bagel but they ran out of it that day! SO DELICIOUS. I crave this bagel every single day. It's fresh, well-put together, light and so good. I ordered an iced tea to go with it! The coffee isn't great here honestly. I'm sure it's an acquired taste but definitely not my go-to for coffee. Otherwise, very clean! & staff is so sweet. First... the P situation. If you want to just park and go in for a drink or a bite to eat to take away... well you can't. You have to go to the parking garage. It is close, so that is a plus. This is the nature of B'ham. If you are getting your car washed at Jax, then walk on over and grab a coffee. The décor is cool and modern. The coffee options are plentiful. Just when I think coffee shops can't get better, they do. Birmingham Roast is amazing. I have never had a bad time. They are constantly updating their food menu, have impeccable knowledge of each item they sell, move efficiently, and have a wonderful space to do that all in. Parking can be difficult because its downtown Birmingham, but there is a close garage where under 2 hours is free. I highly recommend a Kuppa Joy. read more

The restaurant is really cute and homey and very clean considering the environment we're in. The good came fairly quickly and was delicious. It was moderately crowded, must be because it's popular. Their food and drinks are pretty pricey but it's so worth it. I'd rate it above starbucks. They have a variety of food and drinks that give you lots to try and lots to come back for. Will be back again. Lots of stuff to do around the café too. Right in the heart of Downtown Birmingham and only a few minutes away from Somerset Mall. Highly recommended! :) read more

Great coffee shop in downtown Birmingham! Coffee: I've had their Chai Tea Latte and their Almond Milk Latte and both were amazing! They also add cute imprints on your lattes. Best almond milk latte in the Birmingham area. Food: I only had a piece of banana bread, but it was good and I would try other things on the menu! Service: Great, friendly, quick service! One of the nicest barista ever. Parking: Parking garage is very close by and free for the first two hours and free on Saturday and Sunday. Overall, definitely recommend! Terrible experience at Birmingham Roast today. I walked in with a friend and my dog, only because last week I called and the manager on that day said it was okay to bring the dog in. Today I was very rudely told that this is not a dog friendly coffee shop. Make up your minds. Have a consistent policy and put it somewhere it can be seen - like on the door. And maybe get your staff some training so that they can handle unusual situations with more tact and kindness. If you're looking for better coffee and food in Birmingham, go to Commonwealth. Birmingham Roast is not worth trying. read more

This will be a short review. This is a really neat coffee shop in downtown Birmingham Michigan. I came down here for work and it is right across the street so it was convenient. When I walked in my immediate reaction was to take a picture of the lights! Lol this is such a really cool modern decorated place. I ordered a pumpkin latte with almond milk. It was a little speedy, but well worth it. I definitely wouldn't make a habit of going here, that would get expensive. Anyway, to my surprise they use REAL pumpkin in this latte! The barista said they purée it in house! When I got it I immediately took a sip and was wowed! The flavor is amazing, like drinking pumpkin pie. The quality of the coffee is very good, and with the almond milk I got it was an amazing after lunch treat! read more

Couldn't resist to go here when I found out about their printed latte arts. If you know me at all, my Instagram is full of coffeeshop visit photos because I just love them! I got the Honey Joy Latte and it was REALLY REALLY GOOD! It was just the right amount of sweetness and it felt really light in my mouth. The cookie butter was the standout and absolutely phenomenal, but honestly any of the options would have been a great choice. The chocolate chip cookie was also incredible. I warmed it up in the oven after getting home and it completely took it to another level. If I had one recommendation, it would be offering warmed cookies in house because that made it next level. Overall, a great experience with standout food and exceptional service. Will alone made us want to come back.

Outside on the patio they have large umbrellas and heat lamps depending on the weather. It's also better luck to find a table that can accommodate 4 outside, although the tables are small cafe tables to it's a little cramped for 4, perfect for 2-3. They have low and high top tables available. If you do have a larger group, there is a park a block and a half up Eton that has picnic tables and benches so you can always take your treasures to go and enjoy some people watching at the park. Ample parking is available in the lot just make sure you go in the correct driveway at the north end since it's a one way in/out situation.
