The ramp risotto was super fresh. - Outdoor seating lovely, super spacious. - Great beer list! Love that they have different sized pours. I've been here three times over the past two years while traveling to Westchester. The staff are a great. The food is great. I love the lamb sliders. They have lots of specials and seasonal drinks. There is outside seating, however, inside is cozy and fills up when it's chilly out. The decor is pub like and antique. There's parking on the street and there is also a small lot across the street. Been to Birds all many times for dinner but this was our first brunch. It was fantastic. Huge amount of food and the price was very fair for the quality and amount. I love the calamari salad with the Summer Thyme martini! Have enjoyed it a few times and was always happy. I visited this past Sunday (August 16th) and was so DISAPPOINTED!! The martini was terrible and the salad-not good! Calamari very chewy-that eraser feeling-when over cooked. The greens in the salad were only red cabbage and frisee - making for a very bitter combo. I visited Birdsall once for brunch and once for beer. The brunch is okay. The service is good though the food is mediocre. That's a shame because I would love to have a great local farm to table brunch spot. The crux of this review, however is when I came in for a small beer on a very quiet, rainy, Columbus Day afternoon. I brought my nearly 1 year old daughter to the virtually empty restaurant and sat at the bar. I informed them I'd be just having a beer. I was given a taster and my beer order. Just as I was about to sip my beer, I was told by the same bartender that I need to go to a table and that having my daughter with me at a bar is really inappropriate. What struck me was the judgmental and patronizing tone. Now I understand that passions run deep on both sides of the topic of children at bars. (In my defense, I cased the place first to make sure it was mostly empty. There was just one elderly couple having food at the bar. I also ordered a 10 oz pour of a 4.0% beer, so it really was just a quick one for flavor.) I respect business owner and patron opinions. But I do not respect a business that can't communicate with their customer respectfully. There was ample early opportunity to inform me if we were unwelcome, and I made my intentions clear as we were parking the stroller. Too bad. The beer selection here is good. I have heard good things about this place and was very eager to try it. Unfortunately for us, we went there on a busy and incredibly loud evening - drag night. Everyone attending and participating in the show seem to have a very good time, but inside the restaurant was chaotic and loud. The door to outside where the show was happening opened every few seconds making conversation inside impossible. Service was terrible, as most people were outside for the show, and so were the servers. Food was fine. I had a burger, and it was good. I rushed through my meal just to get out of there. Am I just a spoiled foodie that comes from nyc? We came to west point academy today and decided to pick s local restaurant to dine in. This came up on Yelp with the most reviews compared to ANY other restaurants in the area. So... We gave it a try. The service is pretty good. Waitress was really nice and was attentive when I asked for something. We ordered calamares, which, tasted FISHY, yes fishy! I have never had calamares that tasted fishy. That was very disappointing. However, the sauce was really good. Sweet & tangy. Then we ordered some food from that day's special. I got the lemon chicken and my SO got a stuffed pork loin. The pork was hard dry and tasteless over what seemed like half a can of split pea soup. My chicken was over fried. Tasted like the batter was stuck to the bottom of the fryer. Then drizzled with some sauce. It was just overall an disappointing experience that I wish no one will have to experience. I've come in a couple of times over the past season to relax after my shift around the corner over hot food. When I came in the other day and stood at the mark where it says "Stand here and wait to be seated," the bartender, upon walking over to me, BARELY made eye contact with me-- I had to state to him that I was "hoping to sit at the table by the window" (what else would I be doing standing at the indicated "please wait here to be seated" mark on the floor besides waiting to be seated?). Once I was seated, he, again, barely made eye contact with me as he quite indelicately and hurriedly dropped the menus at my table as though he was dodging my existence. When he came over to hand me a glass of water, again, there was scarce eye contact; *I* had to inform *him* that I was ready to order although conventionally it's the servers job to ask customer of this. When I managed to get my order in, I enjoyed my meal, however I must have spent the next 30 minutes trying to get this bartender's attention to receive some service as I was in a hurry and needed my check, which I stated to him when I finally regained his attention. He, again, displayed reluctance in making eye contact all of when asking if I needed a to go container, and bringing me my bill (which he did so after serving two other patrons despite the fact that I told him I was in a hurry). When he brought a plastic bag over to me upon my request, he, again, showed scarce acknowledgment of my presence by way of basic eye contact. Finally, this bartender omitted any "goodbye" to me upon my exit, although he did bid goodbye to all other customers picking up orders or leaving from their tables before me. The customer service here is markedly unprofessional. Having worked at a few restaurants myself and attended countless in my lifetime, I know for a fact that effective, let alone strong customer service requires the bare minimum of basic eye contact with customers. This bartender came off as rude to me and left me under the impression that he does not know how to create a positive experience for customers. You all stand next to RamenEsque and Touch of Class; there are so many options on this strip alone yet I chose your business. Thereby it serves you to appreciate and graciously respond to any and all customer attendance by properly serving those who enter your premises, especially when money is involved, which greatly saddens me to write. Really cool brunch option in Peekskill that will appeal to daytripping New Yorkers, hipsters, and Hudson Valley denizens alike. We sat outside in the courtyard and it was nice with the umbrella cover. Brunch options were standard but good with fresh and local-seeming ingredients. There's an extensive and interesting list of beers, as you would expect, most of which are NOT from Peekskill brewing, which I did not expect. I wish they would have labeled the beer flights a little better or clearly announced each beer name when they were delivered, but it was nice to put the palate to a taste test. We ordered glass of wine and beer. I liked coffee porter beer, it was very tasty. But my wine glass was smell like stinky rat, wine taste was okay but I couldn't handle the smell of the glass. Anyway they changed it to new one after I complain. I had birdsall Ruben sandwich, it was good but I felt bit overpriced. Pulled pork nacho was good also but portion was kinda small. Waiter brought us condiment rack with house special mustards and sauce in it. I didn't even open up because cover were kinda messy. Overall, it was decent foods and large selection of beers. Over-priced, mediocre food served with free humiliation of its paying customers I went here on St Patrick's Day with a group of friends. Manager Jess (at least that's what we were told her name was after the fact-- red head with bangs) was extremely rude. She first approached us because one friend popped into the booth behind ours, leaning over the back of the bench to talk to us. Right out of the gate Jess was sarcastic, rude, and condescending. Apparently she was working at the booth my friend was in. She came over "Hi yeah I'm working in this booth and I really don't want to be staring at your---" she stopped herself. My friend said "Oh you are?". Jess replied sarcastically, "yeah, you know, you see that laptop? That's mine. I'm working". So my friend obliged and went to pull a chair up to our booth instead (you know, since Jess needed the ENTIRE booth to herself to work, instead of letting paying customers sit there). When my friend was about to pull up a chair, Jess jumped in again, nasty, insisting she'd take up the entire aisle. Scoffing "How am I supposed to get by if you sit there?". Jess condescendingly demonstrated how much room my friend would supposedly take up, exaggerating, pulling the chair 3ft away from the table. My friend is self-conscious about her weight, and this was extremely offensive and out-of-line. MY FRIEND WAS IN TEARS because of how humiliated JESS made her feel. That is not okay. Right after this happened, we watched her walk over to two of the waiters and complain to them, telling her version of the story-- all within our eye sight. Completely unprofessional. Had she just asked nicely for us to move to the 6-top (which had just become available, but was taken when we walked in), all of this could have been avoided. As a manager myself, I understand the pressure and stress of the job. I understand maybe she was having a rough day. That being said, there is NEVER an excuse to talk to customers the way she spoke to my friend and the rest of us. There is NEVER a good enough excuse to have a customer in tears because of a manager's words. I will say, the reason we stayed was because we were able to move to another table and be served by Heather, who was nothing but kind, attentive, and lovely. She clearly didn't want to speak badly about her manager (THAT is how to be professional!). Judging by the reaction of the other staff there, they seemed completely unphased by her drama-- as if this is something that happens often. "She can be sassy" one of the staff members admitted. I will not be returning to Birdsall unless Jess is fired. And I've convinced many friends (and friends of friends) to do the same. She has no place being the manager when she completely lacks problem-solving and inter-personal skills. For the sake of your employees and customers, I seriously hope you consider finding a new manager-- someone more level-headed, like Heather! read more

My wife and I have eaten here maybe 20 times and we keep going back. The food is generally great (if a bit heavy) and the beer selection and cocktails usually do not disappoint. The service is generally very good and we like the overall vibe of the place. Now here's the problem, which kept me from giving the review more stars: The place has been opened for a few years now and it's looking terrible. In the evening when the lights are low it's less noticeable but the place is in considerable disrepair. Just look at the door and door handle on way in, the light fixture missing the shade (or even a bulb), the beat up walls, and the REALLY beat up tabletops. The tabletops were originally decorated with vintage postcards which they put a clear varnish over. But the varnish has all worn off and they're left with ratty, filthy shredded up postcard remains. They couldn't keep those clean if they tried. The men's restroom is gross which I'm sure is why the lights are down so low. (can't comment on the women's!) The owners opened a second restaurant nearby not too long ago but they should have put some of that money into keeping Birdsall House looking nice. read more

Came here after discovering the kitchen to our typical spot was closed because of some issue (gas/water). This place was recommended by the bartender as they carried their brews. We made the trip over, and it was pretty quiet; perhaps because it was a weeknight. We all ordered burgers. Despite asking for a medium rare burger, it was mostly red in the middle. The mustard and ketchup both tasted sweet, which was strange. Lastly, the bathroom is definitely lacking; yes, this is a bar, but there is no soap and a bucket underneath the sink to catch the water. Perhaps this place will improve in the future, but we will probably steer clear of this establishment and go back to our typical spot. read more

Charming brunch spot, hitting on all the trending terms of the restaurant world; local, seasonal, and organic, all while remaining delicious. The $19 brunch includes a bloody mary, mimosa, or beer, along with an appetizer and entree. I went for the bloody mary which was spiced with horseradish leading to an overall cocktail sauce. While I prefer the heat to come from Tobasco, the presentation was great and the heat level was appreciated. Beer drinkers rejoice, their expensive menu seemed to have something for everyone. To start I had the chicken liver pate, served over cherry preserves and alongside a section of warm baguette. If you don't like chicken livers you won't like this, on the other hand I enjoy chicken liver and really enjoyed it paired with the sweetness and tartness of the cherry preserves. The bread was great as a vehicle for the pate, but wasn't anything special on it's own. Overall the dish was delicious, but incredibly messy and NSFWS (not safe for white shirts). As a careful eater I was able to avoid spills, but would have had a much easier time eating it if the bread full full sliced into individual pieces. I was also able to try the house made chorizo with mixed greens. The chorizo was smaller than anticipated but packed full of flavor. For the entree, I ordered the pear & walnut pancakes, eggs, and bacon, and split it with the beet and goat cheese burger. The pancake breakfast was amazing; pear and walnut generously mixed into the batter, eggs perfectly cooked, and bacon cooked to where I like it (not crispy). The beet burger was rich, almost too rich between the caramelized onions and the schmear of goat cheese, but the texture of the burger and sweetness of the beets left me full but craving a real burger. Many veggies burgers lack meat-like texture but their savory flavors allow the imagination to be tricked, on the other hand this plate wouldn't satisfy the palate of someone craving a stereotypical burger. The cocktail menu looked incredible. The bloody mary was enough for me, but the bartender was kind enough to mix me a ginger soda with lime from the house made ginger syrup and club soda. read more

With not many food options offered in Peekskill, this place kept popping up on my phone and I'm glad we decided to go in. The menu is unique and thoughtful- even for a vegetarian ( thank you!). I found it priced right for the quality of food served too. I had the autumn butternut squash soup with the grilled cheese and caramelized onions- rich, crunchy, gooey and perfect for the fall weather. My BF had the chili which was dense with meat and cheese and a side of buttery root vegetables. We also ordered a hash tart which looked like a deep fried slice of sweet potato pie sitting on a bed of whip cream. Sadly, it wasn't.
