Beyond excellent food! Do yourself a favor and order the Endive Salad, Mac n Cheese, and Fried Green Tomato BLT. OMG

My friend got the grilled cheese and carrot ginger soup; I got the tofu sandwich with mixed greens. The toasted multigrain bread was well crisped and buttered on the outside; the tofu was half inch thick and well seasoned but could be firmer IMO. My friend was real happy with the grilled cheese--it had caramel iced onion and was oozing with quarter inch of cheddar. All dishes were tasteful except the salads; it was overdressed with grain mustard and too acidic and contained a few too many capers (thus also too salty). It gave me some indigestion. The dressing would have been great on the side, really. read more

Went here for Sunday brunch with my dad. We had a great meal, and loved that they do a complimentary bloody/mimosa/beer with the meal. My dad had the beet burger, and devoured the whole thing and then even helped me work on my deep-fried soft boiled egg over polenta. My meal was incredible, and a lot of food. We brought home the extra polenta because it was too delicious to leave behind. Thoughtful wine list, and some interesting desserts, though we were too stuffed to try any. They are installing a beer garden in the lot next door and should be done by July. Our waiter was really knowledgeable and took the time to talk to us and answer our questions. They really follow through with the whole farm to table theme and can tell you exactly where your food came from. Lots of local craft beers too, which is awesome. He told us they fill growlers, if you are into that. read more

First time here and to Peekskill for that matter. Interesting town. For lunch I had the corned beef rueben sandwich and a couple of pints. Corned beef reuben sandwich was excellent with thick chunky pieces of beef, cheese and a tasty remoulade served between wonderfully toasted slices of sour dough bread. My friend had the charcuterie plate which he exclaimed was excellent. Shanna at the bar was really friendly and service was great. Ambiance seems to be a bit of a throwback, and be sure to check out the original deed for the property dating back to to 1760's. read more

Nice place, a very original menu with good meat and no meat choices. I had the chicken sandwich with a side of polenta. Both were excellent.

Based off of the reviews left by fellow yelpers, I had to try this place for lunch while I was in Peekskill. From the outside, the building seem like a nondescript dive bar. My husband and I ordered the shredded pork nachos (they tasted yum but in my opinion not worth $14 for an appetizer or the portion you get), the organic grass fed burger with fries (was very delicious) and the grilled cheese with chilli (was okay and the chilli was not to bad though definitely on the spicy side). If you are in the area, I would recommend giving this place a try. Overall, the atmosphere was dark, friendly servers, okay food but definitely overpriced. read more

Went here for lunch and I have say 1 star is 1 to many for the food here. Nice wait staff, not so nice food. Even the homemade condiments were atrocious. The catsup would have tasted better on pasta and the homemade mayo was equally bad. You know it's a bad sign when both you and the person you dined with are both suffering from upset stomachs less than an hour after you've had a meal. The portions were large and the prices ok, but none of that matters if the food just doesn't taste good or causes you to feel sick an hour later. read more

I like beer. Even more so, crafts and local brews. Birdsall House delivers. This place is so aesthetically pleasing inside. It's perfectly lit and the ambiance created by the edison bulbs is very nice. The fact that so many of the taps are dedicated to NY beers is great. I've not eaten here yet, although I keep asking myself why!? Like most of the places I review, were it that I lived closer, I would frequent far more often. read more

I've been to Birdsall House a number of times and have never been disappointed with the food. Today I went for the first time for the Sunday brunch, sat outside on the patio and have to say it was all great. I cannot believe for $ 19.00 what you get for brunch. Will definitely go back for that. Servers were attentive, did not have to wait forever for the food or drinks to arrive, it may be my new go to place for weekend brunch when I'm not making it myself. read more

We came on Yelp recommendations. Had an early Sunday dinner. It wasn't busy and we were seated quickly. Our server was attentive and patient with our menu questions. She was enthusiastic with her recommendations and seemed genuine. The space is an open retro bar/diner space. We ordered the organic chicken sandwich, the beet and grain burger, and the pulled pork sandwich. All were delicious though the sandwiches were all so big it was hard to open up wide enough to take a bite! Fries were also delicious! read more

We came here based on yelp reviews and the website. The servers were incredibly friendly, but my husband and I left after one drink b/c the place was absolutely filthy. The women's room toilet was backed up with what appeared to be the equivalent of a year's worth of toilet paper and everything from the dusty floors, sticky bar with food particles, Sky light with black crud, and mirror behind the bar that was no longer able to reflect anything was simply gross. We drank one beer, but were too grossed out to drink or consider eating here. I STRONGLY urge the owner to get this place cleaned; your beer list and friendly service would easily bring us back if the establishment was in better condition. read more

My wife and I returned last evening in anticipation of sampling Birdsall's eclectic menu. We had been there shortly after its opening and while the menu had promise many of the dishes at that time suffered from an excess of salt. We were joined by my son and his girlfriend and began by sharing the bbq pulled pork nachos, uninspired by its way too mild sauce and dry chewy pork. A well prepared margarita and delicious draft English stout helped temper this initial disappointment. Though my son's friend enjoyed her deep fried soft boiled egg entree and my wife her jerk roasted pork loin my Birdsall Rueben was close to inedible, the house made corned beef a stringy dry chewy amorphous mass lost in the cabbage and cheese beneath an overly toasted rye bread enclosure, and accompanied by tasty but already cold french fries. My son's blackened shrimp and grits suffered by tasty but too few in number shrimp over a gooy bowl of polenta whose texture and flavor just did not work well together. So again significant inconsistencies in a very interesting menu. Unfortunately now not too eager to return............ read more

This is my new favorite restaurant. If I could eat here every time I went out, I would! And have... on a recent weekend I went here twice. On my first visit, I had the burger which was really special--good cheese, delicious pickles. Just overall a stellar burger. The fries were good. The side of collards was wimpy, without a lot of flavor. I'd skip it in future. That's the only disappointing thing I've had there. The next time I went, I had a very autumnal chopped salad with nuts and cheese and apples (perhaps too many) and the chili, which was very tasty. I'd love it if it came with cornbread or something. You might be able to order it on the side--next time, I would. It needs something on the side. My friends liked the Reuben sandwich, the grilled cheese, the fried calamari salad, and a salmon special. Both times the wait staff was friendly and helpful. The first visit, I was there with friends and a small child. We sat outside and the waiter helpfully moved one of the heating lamps over to our table to take the chill off. The chili was amazing-not to spicy but not too sweet either. The mac n cheese was a fan favorite and the reuben and chicken sandwich amazing.. We were laughing on our way out because the waitress Jess was "the best".. then she came running out with the credit card that I had left on the table! Came here for brunch on a gray, rainy Sunday early afternoon. My significant other and I had just attended a book signing and CBD workshop. The book signing was for Shira's book, the ABC's of CBD - available on Amazon right now! LOL... I noticed there were a couple of negative reviews preceding the one I'm writing now... Disregard them. Apparently the authors of these bad reviews were part of a group of 21-year-old ingrate millennials drunk and rude on Saint Patty's day. Well I've got good news...This excellent brunch spot, has terrific service and even better food. Shira had the French toast, two eggs even a hash tart and it was outstanding. I enjoyed a cheddar onion spinach omelette with the hash brown tart. The coffee is first rate, The service is out of this world, and even though we don't drink there are over 20 craft beers on tap, as a superlatives extra added bonus. I would say this is one of the best breakfast/brunch experiences I've had in a while. Would recommend highly. Actually this would be a recommendation the next stop beyond highly. read more

We ate here recently over the summer with a group of 4 and we were all very pleased with this place. The beer selection is awesome and changes frequently with the seasons. After dinner, we sat at the bar and chatted with the owner and the bartender who were very friendly and knowledgeable about all the beer they serve. While you come for the beer, the food was decent also. The menu is very eclectic and different with enough choices for everyone. Some of the choices were "heavy" for summer but would go over great in the fall or winter. Our waiter knew all the specials and was very attentive to us throughout the meal. Not only was he helpful with the menu, he knew what beers would go with what meal selection. (they had this on the wall over the bar also) Several of us had some of the specials which appear to change frequently adding variety to the menu. The food comes out on square plates = trendy. Meal portions were in line with a hip Manhattan joint, decent but not overflowing. The menu can be found on line on their website with the latest specials. The decor is simple and pub-like with tables/booths, vintage chairs and nostalgic chatskes on the walls. We sat in a booth which was a little tight but doable. It appears now that there was an outdoor area for dining that looks like a German beer garden (it was too hot to sit outside for us that day). Plenty of parking across the street in the muni lot. Overall this is an excellent place, great food and service and an awesome list of craft, seasonal beers. We'll be back. read more

Birdsall House is not trying to be anything but Birdsall House. It doesn't have pretensions about its food philosophies, it just lives up to them. Beet burger WOOT! I once had a salad here that was so pretty I took a picture of it. I also once had a pork liver w/figs dish that was...well, let's just say I learned that I'm more of a calf liver kind of girl. Once we came after hiking. We were late for our reservation because of hitting a deer. The host was annoyed but got over it quickly when we described what our car looked like. I love the dim funky atmosphere. I love the risks they take with their entrees. The desserts: not so much. I wish they'd make 'em without liquers. read more

A reason to travel to Peekskill!!! I LOVE Birdsall House! We come from Manhattan to eat here...so good. Rotating draft beers so always something cool & new to try. Have never had a bad meal here...NEVER. By far the BEST Rueban sandwich hands down. They even make thier own condiments so even the ketchup and mustard are delicious and special. The vibe here is really cool and there is an outdoor garden area is so lovely and comfortable. If you haven't gone, go!! Get on a train, get in a car, get on a bike...whatever transportation will get you there. It's worth it. Yummmm! read more

Easily the worst food I've ever eaten at a restaurant. Enough said. I was there with a party of 5 and each of us had terrible meals.

Came here for happy hour before a show at Paramount & was underwhelmed. It was happy hour & bartender said well drinks were $5 so we ordered two & they were served in small juice glasses & didn't seem to have much liquor in them. We ordered nachos & wings. Nachos were not good - a long plate with blue chips, a small handful of cheese & a dollop of sour cream (we had the watery, bland chili on the side). Wings were better, & a pretty generous portion, but sauce was on the side so kind of awkward to dip in 2 miscellaneous sauces & then the (maybe) blue cheese. The bartender disappeared so we had no explanation what the sauces were & clearly she didn't care how we were doing with meal & drinks. But the wings were ok & the only reason I am giving this place even 1 star. read more

Really, this place is as good as it gets! An ale house with a complex, delicious menu made with ingredients from local farms, introducing us to microbreweries across the US, with a nice stash of wine on the side. Full bar too although I don't think I'll ever get to that... I don't share the opinion that its a similar concept to the Peekskill Brewery. Birdsall works to combine their beer choices with its rotating menu (much of which uses local ingredients from Hemlock Hill Farms and Wild Hive). The handmade tap accommodating 20 beers is incredible. The owners made to preserve what is a historic landmark bar, which apparently cannot be drilled into... There is a solid wine selection, picked out by one of the two owners. The history of the building itself is noteworthy, with the original location of Birdsall House used by George Washington to establish Continental Army HQ. Their polenta dishes are superb! Deep-Fried Soft-Boiled Egg is now a staple menu option, a classic dish that is consistent through the weekly changing menu. Simple ingredients and creative dishes, thanks to a recent CIA grad chef, challenge our taste palate. Try any of the coffee porters with the polenta dishes. Try the Hemlock Hill burger and definitely order the fries. Heck, order the fries as a starter, they are great! Explore the game dishes, very good too! read more
