The food was tasty, the service was terrible and the ambiance was definitely less than stellar. Our table had an uncomfortable slant/lean to it and the dining room has a dingy, dirty feel to it. Those qualities could have been overcome by excellent service, but unfortunately our server was essentially absent. Also, while we were eating a female staff-person in a skirt climbed up on an 8' ladder in the dining room to change the specials on the chalk board. Really? I have been to this place so many times and I have never been disappointed. Amazing food and beers. Food: On my recent visit I got the old reliable rueben. I have had this sandwich so many times and it is always consistently delicious. Their house made corned beef is to die for and I love the cheddar they use. The fries are always deliciously hot and crispy and pair very well with their house made mustard. I'm not a huge fan of their house made ketchup but I would rather use the mustard anyway. The beer list is great and constantly rotating. Service: The service is always great here even though the place is crowded. They always seem to have enough people on staff and the food and drink comes out quickly. Atmosphere: The inside of the restaurant has a kind of dive-y feel but the outside beer garden is great. While we were eating dinner there was a bluegrass band playing that was perfect background music. Price: Their entrees can be pricey but they always have their sandwich menu offered which has great food at affordable prices. They all run around $14. read more

Fantastic brunch! We went here after a morning cross country skiing so we (4 of us) came with an appetite. Started off with really flavorful bloody marys that were included in the brunch. Then we each got a different brunch app, all of which were fantastic. Main courses were also great, pancakes in particular were excellent. Tasty homemade mustard, ketchup, and mayo. Came here on a friday evening during winter probably around 630. The place was rather full, but not uncomfortably so. We sat at the bar, and had a couple of beers, and some fantastic nachos. This place has a laidback vibe, a great mix of people, and a menu that hits the spot. While we didnt catch any while we were there, live music was advertised on one of the placards that was on the wall. My girlfriend and I dined at Birdsall on a busy Saturday night in December. As we waited for our entrees, the staff opened up the side door so that people could get out to the patio. Our seats were right across from the door, and every time they opened it we felt a blast of 38 degree chill. I told our waiter that it was extremely uncomfortable, and was there any way they could keep that door closed? He told us no, there was some kind of event going on and people needed to get outside to the patio. To his credit, he did offer to move us to another table. But the new spot was only a few feet away from where we were currently sitting, so we decided to just stick it out where we were. What genius thought it was a good idea to have that door open in December? Our entrees arrived and my Cassoulet was steaming hot and delicious. My girlfriend's blackened shrimp and grits, however, was cold. COLD! We told our waiter and he brought it back to the kitchen. It took quite a while for him to bring the plate back. When he finally did, the food was just warm, not hot. We just surrendered with no further complaints. Our waiter nicely removed our drinks from the check, but all in all, it was a very disappointing and unsatisfying evening at the Birdsall House. read more

Some off items on the menu that weren't very appealing to someone who isn't very adventurous. What threw me off is all the butter they used on the rolls of their sandwiches. The grilled chicken sandwich probably had three sticks of butter or more within the roll, they should warn their patrons. My beer was room temperature, and they ran out of the one that I wanted to try. I tend to put them down pretty quickly, however it took a long time to get refills. In my mind, skip it - for a meal. The last 2 times i have come here Iv had a bad experience with the staff. Iv been coming to birdsall since they opened. So it hurts that i feel i may no longer be coming back. The staff all have very bad attitudes. The big guy behind the bar gave a snarky comment to my party of 6 as we left cuz we didn't bring our empty cups up to the bar. Last i checked, it's not my job to clear out the table. An the last time i went, our terrible waitresses didn't like the tip that was left for her so she ran out to say a sarcastic comment as my friends and I were leaving. Birdsall House is a great local hangout. It has a beautiful bar and the bartenders, Kevin and Casey, are as professional as they get. The place has a Cheers kind of atmosphere and is always fun. We got married at Captain Lawrence Brewery and had our food catered from Birdsall. Krista is an AMAZING chef. My husband and I didn't want typical wedding food. We wanted food with flavor our guests would remember forever. Krista and the entire staff were so beyond friendly and the food was out of this world. I can't tell you how perfect the food went with the beers at Captain Lawrence. After the food was served, my husband and I couldn't help but over hear people saying how awesome it was. My aunt even asked to bring the brisket chili back to Texas. Every single thing that was served was so flavorful and you can tell Krista truly took the time to make it perfect! Heard great things even found this place online and were really looking forward to visiting for brunch. Walk in and are seated immediately, atmosphere is really lackluster to say the least. They can definitely add more to this place by hanging a picture or two, it really feels like no one cares. Server came quickly. Prefix for 23$ including a drink. Great. The portions for the prefix are smaller (side note) and drinks (very small Bloody Mary). I'd rather pay a higher price then be able to feel the management trying to cut corners. First course was small, yogurt parfait was good but basic, pate had a strong aftertaste. Second course was terrible. French toast completely raw in the middle felt like i had just a slab of wet bread, sent back came back same way. Eggs Benedict was literally just that, two small biscuits no side no anything else, it had no flavor and was an odd combo to say the least with pork belly instead of traditional Canadian bacon. Tried something else, cornbeef hash, was still unsatisfied, very greasy, it felt like the type of thing that you leave and get a sweaty stomach ache in a few hours. Service was fine but busy, why they have one server with an entire dining room, bar, and outside at the same time and expect them to be able to give ample service i cant understand. I've been a regular at Birdsall house since they opened. The atmosphere is comfy and I love the movies projected on the walls. The staff is familiar and friendly every time I'm there. Kacie, Kevin, Garry, Rudy, Halle, and Chef Krista truly are the best. Drinks are reasonably priced, 20 beers on tap! The food is consistent and fresh. Best fries in town that's for sure. I really love the Reuben, and every item on the brunch menu is awesome... The hash brown tart will touch your soul. Live bands on most weekends are really fun. The beer garden has string lights that really make it magical. Bocce ball is a fun extra touch that I love too. The owners are lovely and really know what they are doing. yeah, I'll never be coming back after what happened yesterday. I was out bar hopping for St. Patty's Day, and I was having a great time until the red headed manager Jess called me fat. My friends were all sitting in the booth, so I pulled up a chair from another table to join them. Jess comes over all hot and bothered, told me people couldn't get by and it was a fire hazard...1) people were getting around me JUST FINE and 2) I totally get it, they have regulations they need to follow but hmm I don't know...how about saying it nicely since your job after all is dealing in CUSTOMER SERVICE! Anyways, Jess has me stand up, then moves the chair I was sitting in and pushes a whole other table over. LIKE THAT TABLE BEING THERE ISN'T A FIRE HAZARD or blocking people's path?! Pfft. So she ends up taking the chair I was sitting in and gives everyone an example of how far out I was/ how much room I was taking up. Which was extremely exaggerated, she was just being a nasty B for no reason. We ended up switching to a larger table BECAUSE clearly I needed one because I'm sooooo large...anyways she spent the rest of our time there giving our table dirty looks and whispering to the hostess/other staff while looking and nodding towards us. Our waitress was extremely sweet and you could tell she didn't want to say anything bad about her boss, but insinuated that that's how she always is. Delicious lunch! We stopped during a nostalgic tour of Putnam Valley. Definitely worth the trip to Peekskill. I had a well made omelet with blue cheese and pork belly, a side salad and a slice of lentil quiche. All were very good and made for a wonderful lunch. My brother said the fries were good esp with house made ketchup and he also enjoyed his Reuben. I'm not sure about the blue corn waffles with root beer syrup but my cousin seemed to enjoy them. There is an attractive outdoor seating area that is just right on warm days, with views of Peekskill's Main Street on one side and a little bocci court and garden on the other. They take craft beer seriously here, and there are usually several interesting local brews and some established ones on the list. My burger was hearty and tasty, and came with plenty of french fries. Housemade ketchup and mustard lifted the condiments to well above average. There was a good vegetarian option too - a burger made of beets and quinoa. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable. Great place to go after a long day hiking at Bear Mountain for good food and drink. Their outdoor space is lovely, and best of all....totally DOG FRIENDLY!!! This place was not at all what I expected. But, in a good way. It's an old classic bar (genuine, not manufactured) that feels like a throwback to 1980's Park Slope, Brooklyn. And interestingly, Brooklynites are moving to Peekskill. The crowd was a nice, diverse mix... locals, some "hipsters" from Brooklyn, couples, black/white... comfortable crowd. Bartender was friendly. And food was good. Got the soup/cheese sandwich. Soup did not look like it was going to be good, but it was actually tasty. Sandwich was perfectly fine. $12 for both... should have been $10. A must check out in Peekskill for the craft beers and inspired dishes. Fitting menu of lamb sliders to my favorite burger in town. Amazing homemade ketchup and mustard for your meal as well. You can tell the chef/s take care with what they are putting out. Always try a new craft beer or two when I visit. I can't say enough about the food and drink. Ambiance is turn of the century modern divey with class, in step with much of the feel of Peekskill. We eat at the bar and food/drink service is pleasant and very fast, I never have an empty glass for more than five seconds! There is also an outside patio area for when the weather is habitable outside. Prime time it can get busy. Prices are $$ and everything is worth trying. Highly recommended! read more
