The place is very small so it can feel a little claustrophobic in there. The blt is sublime!!

This is such a cute spot! I love the feel but can understand the difficulty with seating without a reservation system as it is quite small inside. Thankfully when we went for brunch our wait time was minimal. We ordered drinks at the bar while we waited. I ordered the Spring Mule with Gin, which I enjoyed. It was a little sweet but was made perfectly. One of my friends ordered the Mint Julep; I highly recommend this for a refreshing drink. I was so excited to try the food as I have heard rave reviews about Bird Dog for quite awhile. I was a little disappointed when I realized how few options I had due to their minimal gluten-free items. Unfortunately, this is the reason for my 4-star review. The Firecracker Cauliflower was amazing; definitely a must when ordering. Due to my limited options, I ordered the Bird Dog Double Burger with no bun. The burger was quite dry and lacked flavor and I was not a fan of the breakfast potatoes that came with it. I was expecting typical breakfast potatoes and these had a gravy/ sauce covering them, which also lacked flavor. Both of my friends loved their selections, the Breakfast Plate & Little Jerry Goes To Nashville. The service was great and I really did enjoy the atmosphere, so I will be back in the future. The portions are small. The prices are outrageous. There is only a small dining room and everyone is on top of each other. Cramped and very loud. Yes they serve locally sourced foods but they are not prepared well at all. The Brussels sprouts were literally burnt to a crisp on the outside and raw in the middle. One of the best meals I have had in a very long time. Best steaks in the Kalamazoo area. This place is small and they put a lot of attention to detail in their food. It really shows. The firecracker cauliflower is a must-try if you like a little spice. I'm normally not a cauliflower fan but this was awesome! Small place and you cannot make reservations (which I think is awesome -- actually gives people the chance to get in if they are willing to wait). We had reservations for our anniversary and someone apparently took our reservations :/ So we had to wait 30 min extra to get our outdoor bubble. We've never had a bad meal, the drinks are always well-made, and the staff is friendly and supportive. The menu rotates regularly, but our top faves are the firecracker cauliflower, filet mignon, burger, and carrot cake! But we've tried several dishes and again...never had a bad meal! Seating is very limited and they're always packed so know that in advance. Make plans to wait and enjoy a nice cocktail (or several) on the front patio while you wait for a table. We arrived at 7:15pm (1 hour and 45 minutes before closing) - ordered an appetizer and two drinks, then our food. At 8pm our food was delivered. A short time later, the weather looked like rain so we asked to be moved inside which they happily accommodated. We savored our meals and at 8:35pm we were hoping for another round of drinks and dessert. At 8:40pm, a man with a ladder showed up to change the air filter, the kitchen was hurriedly tidied and and we were promptly brought our check. You don't see many places with 5 stars, so I had to try this place when I found it on yelp, There were four of us in our party and everyone had something different. Across the board everyone loved their meals. 2 salads, one lobster roll and one chicken fritter sandwich. We were also impressed with their beverage selection, all top shelf liquors. I did find one weakness in there selection. They only had Bacardi Rum, when I mentioned it to our waitress, she agreed and seemed receptive to adding Mount Gay. Very good. This is the last place we ate out at before the COVID-19 shut everything down. We started with mushrooms on toast. I did not love this dish- it was ok, but there was some sort of thick white bitter sauce was all over it. Sad because the mushrooms would have made a delicious sauce all in their own. The entrees were great. I had the burger and fries and the fries are delicious, burger had a really interesting mix of seasonings and toppings that balanced the richness of the meat and cheese. My wife had the salmon entree which had a nice sized serving of salmon on it and was both cooked and dressed well. The dessert wasn't great, it was supposed to be a gooey butter cake I think? Dry and unremarkable. It had a very delicious whipped cream on it though. Just put that on a plate with some fruit! Freaking delicious. Stopped by Bird Dog on the way home from Kalamazoo for a last minute dinner. This place is amazing. Super friendly & energetic owner/chef & staff. We had the firecracker cauliflower & blackened scallops with parsnip crema, sweet potato purée & pomegranate reduction for starters. We had the long bone pork chop with candied fennel & cider mostarda & the sliced filet mignon with Parmesan risotto & Cabernet reduction. We ended our meal with a Bird Dog double burger with aged cheddar & aioli on brioche with House-made chips. We'll definitely be back for more. read more

New restaurant in Mattawan, cozy and small inside the restaurant serves a variety of american dishes. It was full but we were able to find a table, we tried the cauliflower dish and the mac and cheese as appetizers and they both are a must to have! Really good choices, unique and delicious. The mac and cheese was cooked to perfection as well as the cauliflower. I took a burger as the main dish, and it was okay, the fries were not fresh but the waitress gave us another plate of fresh fries. I would have preferred if the pickle was inside the burger. Wonderful food. I would've posted a picture, but all of our food was already posted. I had the Buddha bowl and my husband and I shared the fire cracker Cauliflower. My Husband and I came here for an anniversary brunch and were so well pleased with the food and service. This little diner reminded me of my friend from Jersey who mentioned missing diners like this one. The food was so amazing, we ordered the firecracker cauliflower that everyone recommended and I was simply amazed. We are not vegan or vegetarian however I would prefer these over sauced boneless wings any day. I ordered the ham and mushroom omelet with Gouda sauced cheese and this is unlike any omelet that I've ever had, so delicious. My Husband ordered the burger with bacon jam (the double burger) and it was a delicious burger, he let me steal a couple fries and wow were they so perfectly seasoned with a touch of herb flavor. Bird Dog is PHENOMENAL!! We shared Oysters paired perfectly with their amazing Mignonette, Chop Salad, Lamb Meatballs, Chicken Wings and Firecracker Cauliflower. All of the dishes were perfectly prepared, beautifully presented and absolutely delicious! They offer a spectacular wine list , as well as craft cocktails to boot (which we indulged in). Loved the open kitchen concept and contemporary atmosphere. I highly recommend Bird Dog to anyone looking for a freshly prepared, top-notch, palate pleasing meal!! Great food & cool environment. The place is VERY tiny, which makes it hard for them to host a lot of guests at the same time, however, I think they did a nice job with it. The kitchen & dining area is all in the same room which is kind of cool. However, as a result there is quite a bit of constant hustle & movement in the background. They have a good variety on the menu, and plenty of drink options as well. There are a few limitations but overall I would recommend, give it a try! read more
