**Main Street Pub** is one of my favorite restaurants. I started going to the Allendale location when I was at GVSU and fell in love with their food. There are so many great choices--my favorites include the ranch fritter wrap and the appetizer sampler. The appetizers were grossly over cooked and were definitely staged. The fish dinner which was dry and over cooked as well not happy for the price... the waiter was good and maybe had she prepared my food it would have been good as well. read more

We went here after football conditioning the other night and had a pretty decent experience. Our waitress was fast and nice the food was what you would expect and the prices were decent. The only complaints were our waitress misheard a pair of drinks when we ordered and split the bill incorrectly for our group but nothing big enough to complain about. Service: Stella - A Ambiance: Lights too bright (grade C) Food: F (Terrible) My meatloaf dinner made me sick several hours after eating it. I am now fine 12 hours later. Three slices of dried out, tasteless, meatloaf, a tiny portion of overcooked, stringy vegetables, and a scoop of mashed potato with gravy. The mashed potato and gravy were very good. We have been to this location twice within the last two weeks for dinner. We hadn't been for a year or so, and I'm not sure what has happened in that time. The first time we came recently, our waiter couldn't have acted more rushed, even though we seemed to be his only table. The worst part of that experience was when the Steak and Mushroom pasta came without one mushroom and when I brought it to his attention he had the biggest eye roll I'd ever seen. Since we'd had great experiences in years prior, we came again Sunday and had a horrible experience. Our waitress was rude, including slamming down the pecans that were left off the Blueberry Pecsn salad to the point they flew on the table. My pasta once again didn't have any mushrooms. She brought the tiniest condiment cup and said that's all they had. Only small takeout containers that didn't hold the food, because "that's all we have left". Brought salad dressing out as soon as we ordered, so it was left to sit in the hot sun and bugs in an open container while waiting for the entree salad. Forgetting ranch when extra ranch was ordered. Flat Diet Pepsi. I had the blueberry grilled cheese, I felt like a can of blueberry pie mix was opened and used for this sandwich. The cheese wasn't even melted. Mom had the strawberry salad which just order the half size and save your money. She really enjoyed the salad though. Me...not so much I can add blueberry pie filling to a cheese sandwich and sell for 15.00 maybe I'm in the wrong business. I will say if the cheese was melted the sandwich may have stood a chance. Took the grand daughter and friend to MSP. The perch ( which 2 of us ordered) were advertised as "wild caught, sweet" - they were horrible! About the thickness of wooden kitchen matches, very salty, too much breading and likely from an outdated frozen box. I'd be embarrassed even offering these "things" to customers. The special was bone-in wings that were not good, and mostly left untouched. The wrap was ok. And the bright spot was the wonderful waitstaff. read more

Ever since Carley took over as manager the place has gone down hill.. She has managed to run off all the good bar tenders and employees.. She really needs to go. This use to be our favorite place to go to have a few beers and dinner.. but now we can't stand going there strictly because of her and the way she treats the employees. Visited this restaurant while traveling based on the wide variety of their menu. We were seated promptly in the bar area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There were a lot of large holiday party type groups around us that made the atmosphere fun.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered the queso to start. Basic Cheese with Rotel...not bad. My husband ordered the chicken pot pie...which he said wasn't very seasoned. My older son had the chicken kebob meal and enjoyed it. My younger son got the Mac and Cheese and he thought it was tasteless. Here's the kicker of the meal: I ordered the Avocado Cobb salad which came without a single speck of avocado on it. To make matters worse, there wasn't a mention of onion in the description of this salad on the menu (which is why I ordered it) and it came full of finely chopped red onion-which I despise. I hate to waste time sending something like this back, so I picked out every single piece. (Ugh). The chicken on the salad tasted old and rubbery and I couldn't force myself to eat it. Traveling through the area. Food was fine, but service was terrible (Marcia B). Hostess and another waiter paid more attention to us than our waitress did. Whenever she dropped something off for us, it was a drive by. Dropped it and gone. No words, no eye contact. Didn't tell us my side salad would be full price, vs an add on like my husband's, never refilled our drinks (my tea had a bug in it), never picked up used dishes, never asked how things were....nothing. Even told us she didn't like any of the soups they had today. Had a few words at the end to help boost her tip but that was it. I have always been a fan of Main St. Pub, and it has consistently been a great place to eat and drink for many years. They have good specials and they have a menu with a great variety so anyone can find something they'll like there. Stopped by on a girls' day adventure and we had cocktails and the amazing chicken nachos. I had never tried their nachos, but my friend was right when she said they're the best around! We usually come here in Tuesdays for their happy hour food and drinks. Best happy hour deals in town at the one in Kalamazoo. This time we went for pickup from the Westnedge branch. Food was great, we got burgers with sides of sweet potato fries and caramal sauce, and the crab rangoon flatbread which I highly recommend. They were really busy but still walked out with my food on time. Lives up to the standards, great food and service. Plenty of parking spots. Huge dining area and a bar. Well... I really wanted to rate this higher but ran into the issue of timing that just prevented us from enjoying our food. We sat outside. Very nice. The salad came and I stood looking at it for 10-15 minutes while waiting for silverware. My food came and and they warned me the plate was hot. However after I reminded them they forgot the side of jalapeños and salsa actually arrived, my tacos they were cold. They were good but cold. Service was actually good. She busted her ass servicing us and several others. I can only assume there is an issue in the kitchen. read more

My slow pitch softball team has been going to Main Street in portage for years now and recently we have been having more and more issues since they have hired new staff. Tonight in particular my child and I were in the bathroom while one of the managers was in the bathroom as well (female) and she came to our table and said "since I've seen your v***** I should introduce myself" and then proceeded to ban my slow pitch team who has had poured hundreds of dollars into the establishment for years..this was my first time seeing this new manager there. This just shows what kind of person Main Street is willing to hire. We will no longer go to Main Street and neither should you. They are unprofessional and disrespectful in many ways read more

We had a blast waiting for our take home order, it was raining, but that didn't stopped us from having some drinks by the fire. (they even have heaters) They also have tents (you can see them in the background, the big red ones) they are heated inside and you can reserve them. We had amazing service and our food was great. Main St is like a local Applebee's to me, only because when you walk into a Applebee's, you feel welcomed, it feels like a family atmosphere and you get a hearty meal! My favorite thing from Main St is the BBQ pulled pork nachos and the fried pickle spears! The nachos are cooked well, the meat is plentiful and its a giant portions! The pickles are cooked well and you don't lose the pickle from the breading when you take a bite, which mainly what I look for in a good fried pickle! Another check mark on my list of top hamburger places in Kalamazoo to try. My co-workers and I ate here on Friday (the weather didn't cooperate to go to Ribfest for lunch). I ordered the Smoked Gouda Burger. I like the flavor of Main Street Pubs burgers. The Smoked Gouda was topped with sauteed portabella mushrooms, smoked gouda cheese, and sauteed red peppers. It was A-OK in my book. The other ladies ordered The Bronco burger and they both really liked it (topped with BBQ sauce, crisp bacon, melted cheese and finished with haystack onions). Main Street Pub has been a go-to place for after work drinks with my co-workers. The staff has always done a good job accommodating us. The manager has to be one of the friendliest guys around.
