Opened 1981, Waldo's is a huge multi-story tavern with an outdoor beer garden area. Fun college bar packed with Western Michigan University students. Definitely try the Mixed Wings (ie: 10 BBQ wings) with bleu cheese. If you have 4 people, you can get an actual bucket full of draft beer here. read more

Normally go here weekly. Like every week. I get the same thing. Now apparently the manager told the server they don't do modifications. In this case no pickle. So subtracting something that would save them money is not something they will no longer do. read more

The night desk clerk recommended this place which was perfect because we wanted a dive bar feel and it was perfect. We just missed the ability to order food but there's a big spirits collection and pool to play. read more

Waldo's Campus Tavern - Pool tables - Pubs Near Me - Kalamazoo, Michigan

My favorite spot in Kalamazoo!! Good food and great atmosphere. Just a fun spot to be in.

I was physically harassed and attacked by the staff. Here's the story: I went there last night with my friends. We arrived at 8. I was there the whole night until about midnight when I went to use the bathroom. A staff member said that I wasn't allowed to use the bathroom and I calmly asked why. He said that it's because they have a right "not to serve everyone." I said that that didn't make any sense, I was a consistent paying customer all night. He then picked me up and carried me out into the parking lot where he threw me onto the asphalt. All this was quite unprompted so I knocked on the door and asked again kindly why I was being removed. Another staff member came and said again that they have the right to remove anyone they want without reason then they both picked me up and threw me to the ground violently. The physical assault was much undeserved and unlawful. Additionally my wrist was very severely sprained in the process. I will not be coming back and I advise anyone who doesn't like getting violently attacked by staff members on a power-trip to be wary of this location. read more

Classic tavern vibes. Just stopped in for a quick beer, but it's someplace I wouldn't mind returning. The staff was quick and friendly, and they have a kitchen which might be worth checking out. read more

Waldo's is a classic campus tavern. Eric and Jenna behind the bar are the best! Be sure to try the $3 mystery can for a fun surprise from the grab bag! read more

The beer is trash. The only beer I drink is PBR, and when I got a picture it was terrible I actually threw up cause of how bad it tasted. I have went 4-5 times now and it has always been bad every time and my friends agree. The manager said it taste like PBR but it taste like starlight booty cheeks. Fix it!!!! read more

Loud and obnoxious. Could not get waited on. The bar tenders were overworked and under able. Typical college bar, but without the results... read more

Was served spoiled orange juice and told that's just how it tasted. Employees seem bothered to serve. Pool table by the window is not balanced. But good location by the field and good wings. Good for a quick bite and darts, but don't get anything out the tap if you don't want to get sick. read more

Are you looking for a place that is dark and dingy where you are not quite sure what the floors look like or the last time they have been cleaned? Then this is the place for you! This is definitely a college bar and a mainstay in Kalamazoo. Just know you are coming here for the drink specials and not for the atmosphere. And get the wings! The mixed grill wings are the best wings in Kalamazoo. I was there recently on a Friday night and the wings were on special. You will not be disappointed by the fantastic flavors of these wings. read more

As a Bronco Alum', in town for Homecoming and Parents weekend, clearly one of the busiest days of the year for all bars and restaurants in Kalamazoo, I want to return to Waldo's Tavern and reminisce on our time at Western Michigan University. To my surprise, this bar has gone to Sh*t. They have not cleaned the carpet since I was there 30 years ago. The establishment was mostly empty, except for the people at the bar, but every table was covered in empty bottles. We could not find a clean place to sit. There were only 2 people working the entire place and no servers. The bar tender and manager seemed more focused on cleaning glasses then trying to serve all the people that were their trying order. They have a bouncer at the door who was incredibly rude and would not allow my wife, that is over 50, to enter the bar without an ID and threatened to call the police if we didn't leave. Seriously!? WTF. Sadly, I will never return to Waldos and I will make sure all my friends know how Waldos was once THE place to be, and now its a rundown, dirty sh*t hole with bad management and horrible staff. Shame on you Bruce Hayes (owner). read more

Its a pretty neat campus bar. Expect to experience sticky floors, scratched up tables and mismatch stools. I used to go to this place for their wings atleast once a month and then I stopped going for a while. I went back to this place for trivia which i was very excited about. I was more excited about the food and in the end I was dissapointed. We ordered wings and pulled pork tacos. Wings were too dry. Same was the case with tacos. It needed more sauce and I'm pretty sure it was missing something. Chips it came with was a little stale and salsa was really thick and was missing salt. We were very dissapointed about the food. Staff was very friendly and courtious. So full points there. read more

As my friend Allison said, we loved $6 pitcher night. It was cheap, and you always ran into people you knew. I have lots of fond memories of this place. I went back after graduation, and it just wasn't the same. It really is the people that make this place fun. Hopefully we will go in as group at reunions and it will be like old times. (Maybe we'll split the pitchers among a few people though). The last time I went back was for nostalgic reasons, and without having a pitcher in you, and friends everywhere you look, you can really see how crappy the place was. Oh well, I guess that's what makes it a dive bar! read more

Alyssa is an amazing bartender!! She makes sure you're taken care of and is super attentive towards your needs! She plays great music!

Order was ready in 5 minutes, of course I called right at 3. Wings were awesome no words could describe how great they are! Pound of fries perfect for like 3 people lol. Going to try the ribs next :). read more

*batman 3.4/4.0 beers If my buddies from college were to visit me on a Thursday night, you'd find us at Waldo's. Why? Well even though we're pushing the upper bounds of the age demographic, a cheap pitcher of long islands or any other well drink is sure to get a good time started. The only disappointment was throttling way back for the trip home and pulling a primed reviewer away from his game. Another at-bat might be necessary for Waldo's...3.4 beers. *captain ron 3.0/4.0 beers Well, I'm not sure if the drink specials at Waldo's are really special at all. I had some trouble doing the math in my head. Anytime you can throw alcohol at me in quantities too large for me to handle, it's a good thing. Waldo's has a weird layout. After a long island pitcher, it becomes more of a maze. Simply a-mazing..snip snap! (oh, I hate myself). This is a great college bar that draws a good mix of dorks, dweebs, jerks, jocks, frat boys, sorostitutes, jersey chasers, tomboys, and at least a few young-professionals who've yet to give up the dream. www.theKalamabooze.com read more

I am from a small town, so visiting here seemed like I was back home but in a whole new state. A friend grew up in the area and always wants to stop by the places that he knew when he was in his college years. These places included Waldo's. I've been to my share of "shit hole" bars so this was nothing compared to the local hometown bars. It just reminded me of a classic college bar that doesn't mind if you spill a few drinks here and there. The drinks were CHEAP, but then again I'm from Chicago so anything under $5 for anything is cheap. The food was why we went there, and I'd have to say that the menu was small but did good for a college/sports bar. The pizzas were good, the wings were awesome and the fried pickles... YUMMMM. It was a good way to remind myself why I moved away from home/college in the first place but was a good time for a night away from the big city. read more

the place is too hot, the bartender ignores me for other customers that came after me, my orders keep being made wrong, the bathroom always smells like piss, and the place always looks run down. they seem to have zero control of the drunken college kids that frequently come in and cause trouble. the wings are good, but only half of the time as the other half of the time they are either overcooked or are clearly old wings made several days ago. the staff is condescending when you voice that youve been wrong, and it doesnt seem they can even keep a consistent staff. just better off going to a different bar read more

We came here as a large group of ~40 people for our team dinner on a Friday night. They had us set up in the separate room on the deck, which worked out perfectly. Despite it snowing and being super cold outside, we stayed nice and toasty warm. We had full access to the menu, which was perfect as sometimes set menus blow. I ordered the cream of tomato soup and the steak wrap with bleu cheese. Our drinks and food arrived promptly with the exception of a few that were missed or presented incorrectly. The tomato soup is definitely something that I would recommend and order over and over again. It's nice and creamy and had tons of chunks of tomatoes. Veeeery good! My steak wrap wasn't bad. Everything was fresh and the steak was cooked to a medium. It was a bit sloppy with the dressing but overall, everything tasted good. I was quite jealous of the beef dips and burritos as those looked to be delicious! While overall we had a good visit and service was pleasant, my main issue was with other patrons. We clearly had the entire room booked out, and yet the entire time had people come in to the room to look for seats. At one point a man came in and took a phone call for about 10 minutes in the corner of our room. Literally had his nose pressed up to the wall and it looked like he was peeing. Not ideal. read more

Waldos is alright during the week and off nights on the weekend. Pretty good beer selection downstairs. Pitcher night is pretty obnoxious though. read more

Waldo's was the standby in college. It has a little older vibe downstairs in the pilsen club, complete with a round bar and a fireplace. They have any beer you could imagine down there and a cool club called the "Passport" where they track what you have tried and at the end you get a tshirt and your name on a plaque. Upstairs is a typical college bar with darts, pool tables and awesome bartenders. Thursdays is the only busy night where they run a cheap special on mixed drink PITCHERS. read more

Worst wings I've tasted! They were over cooked, burnt, and dry. I will never eat here again. Big letdown after the all the great reviews. Next time I'll get some frozen wings from the grocery store and reheat them myself. read more

Always rated best wings for a reason! Mixed grilled! And fried pickles are amazing too!!

Plenty of TVs if you want to watch sports. The lower level has not changed in years. Good college bar.

Upstairs it's everything you expect out of a college bar -- sticky, loud, disgusting bathrooms, people drinking straight from the pitcher. I'm 43, but when I was 23 and hanging out with a big group of friends -- this was just the ticket. And yet, there's this little oasis downstairs, an extremely dimly lit lodge-like setting with its own small bar and a fantastic beer selection. We've enjoyed stopping here on the pub-crawl for Kalamazoo Beer Week and find it a charming spot, especially if you can grab seating near the fireplace. Total dichotomy between the two bars ... it's weird to have them in the same building. read more

My friends and I love going to Waldo's on Thursday nights for pitcher night!! Last Thursday my friend gave out my number to one of the bouncers... and I'm just wondering what his name is. He didn't text me, but I'm just looking to make sure he doesn't have a girlfriend and if I still have a chance!! -- Can anyone help me out? He has a southern accent and wears a hat often. Anyway, we LOVE this place and plan on going back week after week! read more

They're food is amazing, my favorite. Very well ran establishment. Servers are friendly and deals are amazing!

I'm a fan of this place! what a cool hole in the wall bar/ campus close bar. Came here on a Tuesday night after all of my classes were done. The atmosphere is awesome, and there is a fireplace, it has a great warm vibe that it gives off. definitely somewhere you would come with a few friends just to chew the fat for a few hours. read more

I think people are living in a cave by not reviewing this place! Okay..so it's old.....really really old. But that's the best part about it. I believe the cheap pitchers are back for Thursday night, which is an awesome experience. Just walking around and holding my pitcher with a couple straws in it bring me back to playing rock/paper/scissors to decide who will drive home that night. read more

I really enjoyed this place. The food was pretty decent and the prices can't be beat. We stopped in for a bite and a drink. It was fun

Loved this place when I was in college. Great place to have. Brew and meet some friends. The food ain't bad either.

I used to live for $6 pitcher night. It was such a part of my college experience that I am getting nostalgic just writing a review. My college days are long gone and no way can I drink like that anymore, but I fondly remember wandering around with my pitcher and straw and stumbling back to campus after close. And yes, its a total dive, but were else can you get drunk with your professors. read more

College dive bars are supposed to have personality and character, right? Not here. I had more fun watching paint dry while sipping a zima. This place, top to bottom, is one of the biggest disappoinments of dive bars I have ever walked in to! I get I am 40 and not the target demographic but just wasn't in the mood for one of K'zoo's vaunted micro-breweries. I wanted a dive bar with heart and soul, quality beer drinking world problem solving banter, and cold beer. A let down on all fronts. If you are ever on your bucket list dive bar tour of the midwest, missing Waldo's is nothing to fret about! read more

Best path to serious heartburn, Nachos and Bloody mary's. Burn baby Burn.

Best chicken wings in town!!! And 50cents a piece on Fridays!! My boyfriend and I have made it a Friday night tradition. I like the dive bar vibe, but it could be a lil cleaner, guys. Each time we have been there (around 10pm on Friday nights) it is pretty dead...i have no clue why as it is so close to campus. If I was in college this is totally a place I'd go to have a chill night. Anyway, come for the wings! read more

I went there for the first time and there was a small like 15-20 people waiting some in the lobby area and some in the front of the building. The manager/owner came out and made everyone leave the lobby area (it was raining out). He then proceeded to tell people to just leave, because he wasn't letting anyone in anytime soon. It was $6 pitcher night so I got a pitcher with the mixer being coke, the bartender then told me that all the pop is flat because they had no carbonation.I was very displeased with the hospitality and the way the owner was handling a busy night. read more

Kicks people out for no reason, weren't causing a scene, tipped well, and were just sitting down drinking, asked why we had to leave and they couldn't give an explanation, wouldn't look us in the eye, and were very discreptful to paying customers getting drunk at a bar what you're suppose to do? Weren't even trying to drive home, was at the end of the night hardly anyone there we were just hanging out, lost about 9 paying customers for picking on one person. read more
