The environment is fitting for small group gatherings for studying or just to be with friends. When I heard about this place, all I wanted was an almond croissant. Unfortunately for me three were all gone by the time I got to the register so I had a plain one. Overall it was good. I'm just waiting to see how it compares to my favorite bakery Seven Star bakery in Providence. I will definitely be back with friends :) read more

Damn good bread. They have a lot of other cool treats there too. It's in a great spot, right above Crompton Collective, a curiosity shop.

I've only been there a few times, but I was always impressed with the quality of food (best breakfast sandwich around) and coffee. It's a bit pricey but worth it. The place is always packed, and it's sometimes difficult finding an open table. I suggest you get there early to avoid the line! Despite the crowds, it has a great atmosphere. They specialize in bread and it shows. Bread in all kinds and styles. The cafe has great sandwiches (breakfast and regular), and loose leaf tea. Coffee too I guess, but I don't drink that. Nice large room, which is necessary since the place is always busy. Often live music and the farmers market is outside on sundays. read more

My friend brought me here for lunch and it was very disappointing. My salad was wilted and the dessert was inedible. It was a pile of soggy dark stuff on some kind of bread or cake. I just returned it for credit. There wasn't even any interesting bread available. Go to Panera!! If you look a the photos, there's a burnt sandwich and a weird looking roll. read more

Their food is always good but the lines are way too long.... we've stopped buying bread from them because it seems to mold within a day or two... a good place to get Cooper's farm milk (in pints) if you don't want to drive out to leicester. read more

Probably my favorite place in Worcester (and there are quite a few now). This type of place seemed impossibly ten years ago which shows how "Wormtown" is coming up in the world. Love the almond croissants, coffee, and toast selections. The bottomless cup is a great deal if you're doing some work there and having a few cups. The line can get long but it's quick. I stumbled upon this place as a pleasant surprise. Delicious fresh bread, beer and coffee available and hearty sandwiches. Aside from the food, the atmosphere is so cool. They have a large space with a variety of seating options, free WiFi, and lots of character to the building. It's attached to some other cool shops so there's plenty to do there. If chic decor and butter drenched bread tickles your fancy you'll be able to ignore the flaws. The 15 minute wait for counter service terminates at a haughty 20-something who has taken too many orders to give a hoot about yours or the line they have building up behind you. If Panera's counter service line annoys you, this place's setup is sure to impress... You'll get a number for food service delivery, but you'll only know your drink's ready when you hear a disgruntled employee yelling your name multiple times in a row to let you know your drink is hiding somewhere on the snaking bar littered with Bros tapping their feet to the 90's tracks no one planned to ever listen to again. Their toast menu ($4/2slices) makes alchemy seem like childsplay, as they turn an industry standard 20 slices into a $40 loaf of crispy gold drenched in butter. Their men's bathroom has one toilet and one urinal which led to some back-of-the-envelope math which conclusively proved that when you have to number two... You'll have to wait too. There's something Trumpesque about the place... No matter how much they get wrong... Worcesterites are still chomping at the bit for factory wood floors, wood beams, tall windows, church pews, and Big John Short. read more

This place is okay. Overrated hipster wanna be coffee shop from nyc, it tries to be too hard to be "authentic" and "rustic" cafe. The coffee beans tasted like they were burnt hence the coffee had too bitter of an aftertaste. Not smooth coffee at all. The pastries all had a "burnt" black isk layer same with the bread. Very overrated, there could be more room for improvement in this place. read more

Not only is this place a great place to study they also have amazing food. There is almost an outlet at eat wall table which is good for studying.This is a great place to take pictures if you are looking for an aesthetic cafe. They make really good bread and have good coffee and hot chocolate. If you arrive later in the day seats may be hard to find but if you arrive early there are plenty of seats. They offer vegetarian and vegan friendly dishes too. If you are in the Worcester area this is a good place to visit. read more

We stopped here for breakfast yesterday and found the food to be amazing! Some samples: flax seed and raisin scone - lightly sweet, rich, buttery flavor, nicely baked; corned beef sandwich - savory and satisfying, good bread; loaf of whole wheat flax seed and oatmeal bread - amazingly moist inside while nicely browned outside, great flavor and a ton of flax seeds; finally, the dark roast coffee was incredible. We also appreciated the large open setting of the bakery. read more

Oh gosh, Birchtree... There's never enough that can be said for the quality and craftsmanship of the food they make. I'm always pumped to go on a Sunday because their baguettes are some of the best I've had outside of France, and they know what makes bread great. They carry Acoustic Java which is my Worcester homestead for delicious coffee so I don't feel like I'm being a traitor when I get one of their dope breakfast sandwiches and a latte. Yes, food takes a while to be brought out, but you know the end product is worth the wait. The food was fantastic, fresh and tasty - many options, even for a vegetarian like me. The space and the atmosphere is amazing in an old mill building. I will definitely be coming back and would recommend to anyone visiting the area. My only complaint was that it was REALLY loud, so much so that our party of 4 couldn't carry on a conversation at all. I think the wide open space is quite loud anyway, but on the day that we were there, there was live music that was way too loud (and sorry to say, not very good) on top of it. No one goes there anymore, it's too crowded. The line is always long and the last 2 times we went for lunch, there were no tables when our food arrived. They really ought to tell people they cannot post up and use the place as an office during lunch time when people need a table. read more

I recently moved to Boston and was pleasantly surprised to see this cafe open in Worcester. I went mostly on the weekends while visiting my family. The reason I'm giving a poor review is because of service-I went this past Friday and had lunch in addition to buying a bag of coffee. I forgot to ask for the coffee to be ground so went up to the register after to ask, about an hour later. The woman said she didn't remember us and that I needed to show my credit card to prove I paid for the coffee. I did this and she had the coffee ground. My advice-don't put coffee in line where people stand to wait if you don't trust your customers to pay, leave it behind the counter for sale. I will not be returning. read more
