Place is wicked good. I had a chocolate chip cookie and my girlfriend got a turkey bacon sandwich and we loved it. Excited to try more on the menu. Large space for cafe/lunch joint with some easy listening from the live music that was playing. I like when live music plays at places but not when's it too loud to enjoy why you are actually there. This place did the music well and the decor and atmosphere was really nice. I call it clean hipster, very open and simple with some nice old wood finishes that gives the place a lot of charm. Funky space inside of an old warehouse serving up awesome freshly baked breads and artisanal sandwiches. I got an Italian panini, the bread was crusty and warm and the melted cheese complimented the Italian cold cuts perfectly. The food was delicious and the the soft live music really set the tone for this establishment. The line is incredibly long , however it is nice that they have a station towards the back of the line to enjoy some water while you wait. The most disappointing thing about this place is that it's clear they expect long lines, which is why they have that station there. However, knowing they are so busy and only having two stalls in the restroom is very disappointing. The food was worth it and they have the best iced chai latte I've ever had. read more

A piece of heaven in Worcester! The atmosphere is expansive, light-soaked and lovely. Everything I have tasted from coffee to bread to salad to sandwiches have been delectable and mouth-watering. If I could walk here, I would essentially live here. I am looking forward to getting out to the BirchTree more to catch some live music and other experiences, and I would also like to make it a habit to head there to meet friends and perhaps to write. The owners are delightful, positive, helpful people - with great vision and ambition! I'm so happy they decided to create this wondrous space in a beautiful building in Worcester. Fun place with open seating that you find yourself. The large, open space and mixed crowd and sometimes, live music, give the feeling that you are not just at a restaurant, but a social space where you might run into all sorts of people you know. Honestly, Worcester needs more places like this one. It's location above Crompton Place, a good place to browse eclectic refurbished items from decades past completes the fun place to go on weekends. This place was such a surprise for Worcester! Nice design and concept, ​and the sandwiches (especially the fermented side dishes) are clever and creative. I've had business meetings on weekdays at tables when it is quiet, which is very nice as one can linger, but weekends can be rather impossible to talk to even the person next to you as there is often live music. Not to sound curmudgeonly​, but ...four times now the band or performer (at noon) was so loud that we had to leave as we came with two other couples, but we could not talk over our Sunday brunch and coffee. Live music can be great, but when you can't​ hear your number being called or speak to the person across from you without yelling, it moves the destination down the list of options a bit. I love live entertainment​ but I wish that they would keep it to evenings. I love the decor and old-time rustic feel of the place though, and the vibe, quality​ of food and service is super. read more

This funky bakery/cafe is so much fun to visit. It is nice to see a neighborhood in Worcester being reborn like this one with the bakery and various little shops. A friend brought me here for breakfast last week and I was delighted. The area and bakery remind me of parts of Providence with their hip vibe. But the breakfast items, specialty coffee and breads are fabulous. The cardamon/raisin bread topped with freshly made peanut butter and bananas (I know, we all made toast with PB & B for our kids when they were little, but this has brought it to a whole other level!) is a delicious blending of flavors. After the first bite, all I said was "OMG." I brought home a loaf to olive bread to my partner and he really enjoyed it. I believe it was just given the "Best of Worcester" award by Worcester Magazine. It deserves it. read more

One of the best businesses in Worcester. I think the food is superior to the coffee (arguably the best coffee in Worcester but not quite the level you'd see in a larger city necessarily), and the bread is obviously great - I recommend the toast highly. My favorite part of birch though is the space it's in and the ambience it has - it's a beautiful old building that retains its character but is now clean and bright when I suspect it used to be condemned. They also get great live music in there; fantastic spot for an afternoon coffee date or to have a conversation. My only suggestions to the owners would be to reduce prices a tad so that I could go there every day, and - since they now serve local beer/wine - to get Hopulence from Wormtown Brewery or Julius from Treehouse brewing (a little further away) on tap. read more

I went to the Birch Tree Bread Company one week after they opened, and they still had some kinks to work out. First the positive - I love the space and ambiance. It's hard to find a place in Worcester that has a hip, urban ambiance, and this place does. Renovated mill, tall ceilings, wood floors. The barista was friendly and efficient. The latte she served me was good, though not as smooth and well poured as at a competitor on Highland St. and nowhere near as good as a coffee roasted in Acton with a cafe in Newtonville. (I'm not sure if giving competitor's names is allowed on Yelp). The bread I brought home was fantastic. For the negative - the croissant was heavy and doughy, nowhere near the quality of another competitor on Main St. However, this was the first week, and I will be back to try again. Girlfriend and I stumbled upon this place today. We got the turkey and bacon and a croissant with ham and cheddar. Both very good. Afterwards we got a couple of cookies. The chocolate chip was delicious and had a unique earthy texture. Was debating giving this place 5 stars but figured I will reserve that for the second visit. read more
