This place is on our "best of Worcester"* itinerary every time we have guests, and for good reason. The bread's excellent, the coffee, the same, and the space is welcoming. It's one of the most delightful examples of adaptive reuse in Worcester - a converted mill building - and between BirchTree, Crompton Collective, and the farmer's market you have a great morning of supporting exciting local businesses. If I had a complaint, it's that the lines are frequently long, but, honestly, what a good problem to have. Love this place! Absolute treasure. I've only gone for breakfast but I have never been let down. Food is amazing and I strongly recommend trying the whipped feta spread. Most of the time there's live music and I'm an absolute sucker for live music and good food. However, it's definitely not a hidden treasure so be prepared to wait in line. Mixed: great coffee, outstanding bread. Nice place to hang out and drink or work. But the salads and sandwiches have been a disappointment time and time again. Went with a bunch of friends and none of them liked their food, tried again a couple more times in case the chef was just off but no. The food just doesn't work. Stick with the toast, breads, pastries, and coffee. The breakfast sandwich's ham has always tastes rancid and I often see people returning that sandwich. Ask for bacon instead- saves the breakfast sandwich. read more

This place is my jam. The iced coffee is the best around, and their food is top quality. I tend to stake out here for a few hours during the week, but it is best to get their early since it gets so busy. The only downside is the lack of outlets, even by the bar area. Wifi can be kind of spotty at times too. The staff is super friendly too, and the actual building is neat. Great beer selection and pizza on Wednesdays and Fridays, and obviously the BREAD. I don't even mind waiting in a long line on the weekends to get their food because it is that good. read more

Stopped by here on our way up to visit Maine from NYC. So glad we did. This place is a gem. We had the grilled cheese sandwich and the tomato brisque soup and the grilled cheese sandwich was the best I've ever had. Their lavender fog iced tea was also great. On the way back after our trip we had to come here again, and I had the Turkey and Bacon sandwich which was also great. I don't know what they put in their bread but it's amazing. read more

Used to love this place, but never going to come back here again. Went out for pizza night on October 6 and one of the pizzas we got was clearly undercooked. We brought it to the attention of the staff very nicely and the manager refused to give us our money back. The manager didn't even come out to talk to us. Absurd. We were offered a loaf of bread which was nice I guess. They can keep their $15 for the pizza but they just lost two customers. Very disappointed. read more

I love this place! Every Wednesday night I try to come down here for their live music and pizza night! The pizza is amazing and they have so many of their own beer options on draft! They also serve wine and other bottles beers. The atmosphere here is like no other. You can always stop in here for a quick coffee or tea or even a really nice organic snack. On a college visit to see WPI, my daughter and I stopped at BirchTree for a late lunch. Had tomato soup (outstanding), yogurt/granola/berries (perfectly executed) and frittata (yum yum yum). Stayed there and played several games of cribbage while we enjoyed after lunch tea, coffee and an almond cookie. Great experience with delicious food in a comfy space. read more

Really good espresso in my flat white. Not too much milk. Good prices. They know what they are doing. We passed through Worcester on the way to Boston and wanted to get good coffee and were not disappointed. We had stopped at small local shops in Southbridge - watery regular drip coffee, semi clueless baristas which is ok in small towns, it's part of the charm. But this was a welcome treat for those used to expert baristas in places where they take their coffee almost too seriously (yum for us). Nice focaccia too. Didn't try the hot food but would come back. Lovely atmosphere. Cavernous space with plenty of seating, clean spacious bathrooms. Highly recommend. read more

Coffee is delicious but you'll wait a while to get it. They need to work on their grilled sandwiches and toasted bread, since the few I've tried have been almost burned to a crisp (which is also difficult to bite into when the bread slices are cut 1" thick and wreck the roof of your mouth). Just the toast here puts the food most other places to shame. At this point I've tried multiple toasts, and continue to be wowed. I especially love the whipped feta with olive oil (multiple orders have confirmed this), and the toasts with jam (raspberry is a favorite). As to loaves to take home the country is flavorful and great for slicing and toasting. I'm so happy this is in Worcester, and I will continue coming back and bringing everyone I know here. read more

As good as Clearflour (hell, might be as good as Tartine in SF though I'd have to somehow magically try a fresh loaf from both side by side) and better than Flour and When Pigs Fly and all the other Boston places I can't think of right now and I don't even have to drive all the way to Boston. What a place!!! Kudos to the owner for taking an old factory space and making it into a truly great dining area!! Although named "bread company" they in fact have delicious sandwiches, soups and desserts. Not only is the food good, but it's truly a community space as there are often musicians playing there and other cultural events that make this a destination dining area. The menu is expanding and ALL the food is simply phenomenal. The soups, the salads, the sandwiches are top notch.Highest quality ingredients, freshly made on the spot. They have a wonderful selection of cheeses and breads that are irresistible. The atmosphere is terrific! Rustic, charming, very spacious and decorated in a very unique creative way.It's also really clean! The staff who work here always have a smile on their face and seem genuinely happy to help you. Nu Cafe is extremely accommodating of Gluten free diets, as are most healthy food places, so I am wondering if Birchtree is?
