Bun vit xao mang
Diana R.

We were nearby in the area and needed something quick to eat. We didn't really have the time to read reviews and so my relative said, let's just eat here. Big mistake. We were here on a weekday middle of the lunch hour. There were two other tables occupied. That was a sign to walk out, but we didn't. We ordered a couple of noodle soup dishes, and there was nothing special about them. We could not even finish them because the broth had no depth or density. The dish with duck had a lot of fat on it, and barely any meat. For my beef noodle soup, the beef slices were questionable and the blackish color, perhaps over boiled was off putting. I usually don't waste food, but sadly, we had to. When the condiment jars and serving spoons are dirty and sticky to the touch, that's one indicator not to return. Also, there were no paper towels in the bathroom. It was not a pleasant experience at all. Had to buy food elsewhere afterwards.

The restaurant is clean and organized. I came to support them since they have been around for a long time. I hope they can survive the competition from many newer restaurants that offer better quality food at similar prices. The food was ok but they were not worth $16, compared to other restaurants. Everything was ok until we received the bill. We ordered 4 dishes and 1 drink, and the total came to $81. After leaving a $9 tip, I paid $90. My husband felt something wasn't right, so we came back to clarify the charges. The issue wasn't the money. It was how the staff handled our questions. When we asked for clarification on the itemized prices, both of staff openly admitted that the prices listed on the menu were NOT accurate. They "randomly" added an extra $1-$2 to ALL dishes when ringing them up. On top of that, there was also an incorrect item on our bill. If prices have changed, the restaurant should clearly inform customers by updating the menu, posting a note, or verbally letting customers know before ordering. After argument, one staff acknowledged the mistake and refunded us $12. What disappointed me most was the lack of transparency and professionalism. I honestly don't understand all the great reviews from Yelp Elites. Maybe some customers don't mind paying extra $$ charges. But I do expect the bill to match the menu! The stars were for the food and the staff welcoming us and fast with orders at the beginning.

My food

found this place on Yelp, but it was very disappointing. The food looked nothing like the photos. It was mostly noodles with barely any meat and only a few pieces of snail. For $17, it wasn't worth it, and I ended up throwing it away. I probably should have taken the hint when there were no customers picking up food. I would not recommend this place.

Bun Rieu - 4/5 Definitely a good spot to pick if you don't want to wait in long lines during peak lunch hours. 17$ for a bowl of bun Rieu with all the fixings. Can't complain as there are only handful of places offering bun Rieu in garden grove.

Bun cha is great, my pictures are not.

The best bun cha I have found anywhere outside of Hanoi. Absolutely great. 10/10 Very friendly staff. They were very polite even though our table lost track of time and were chatting well past their closing time. Sorry about that.

A friend recommended this place. We tried their canh bun bun rieu and ca soup with iced coffee. Noodles were alright. 7/10. The iced coffee was so black. We asked for more milk but they didn't have any. 1/10.

Bun rieu Cha ca
Christine D.

It's at least $15 a bowl but I feel like it's worth it for the authenticity and guaranteed deliciousness. There are cheaper places but there might not be seats or it's a lot more casual eating experience since the usinessrs ate mainly for to food. I got the bun rieu Cha ca. The Rieu/crab was perfect fall apart fluffy with a little give. The Cha ca/fish cake slices were a little thin but so flavorful. I could see and taste the literal pieces of fresh dill in the Cha ca/fish cake. The bowl looked a lot better than my pic but it legit smelled so good I started eating before I remembered to take a pic. There was a vegetable plate included that I also forgot to take a pic of. The other two people got canh bun which they seemed happy with. We all shared a pot of hot tea which was brewed strong.

I think this was #34.

Very good noodle dishes!! Clean, fast service, and delicious!! All of their dishes are good so you can go wrong with any that you pick. Have been here twice and will come a lot more times!!

The chicken was crispy and the dipping sauce gave it that extra yummy goodness. The dish also came with a side of broth that had chicken bits in it, was nice to help digest your dish. I also loved that they gave you pickled veggies & fresh veggies. We also ordered the Loi's Fusion Saltado, upgraded the rice to garlic egg fried rice. The beef was soft and tender, the fries were nice and crispy and the fried rice was fresh. You 100% need to get the Thai Tea. A lot of place add too much cream/half and half diluting the tea flavor, they do not skimp on the actual tea in their drink. The color speaks for itself on the dark orange hue!

I'm a bit late getting around to writing this, and unfortunately, they are already closed, but I still felt like I had to share my experience. I'm not completely surprised that they closed, especially after trying their bò né. I've had this dish many times at different places around Orange County, and unfortunately, this was probably the weakest version I've come across. The first thing that stood out was the presentation. As you can see in the picture, there was this purple-colored sauce on the meat itself, which honestly did not look very appetizing. To make things worse, the sauce was cold and did not heat in time with the skillet, which really took away from the experience. The flavor itself wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't anything memorable. It was just okay, and when you factor in the cold food and the presentation, it made the whole dish disappointing. With so many places around Orange County serving bò né at a much higher level, I would probably recommend spending your money elsewhere. If you were wondering whether you missed out on some hidden gem, don't worry, you didn't. This one felt more like a piece of coal than a diamond. That being said, every restaurant has its journey, and with more time, maybe they could have found their footing. Hopefully, they can take this experience as a lesson, refine their recipes, and bring something better in their next venture. I am rooting for you Loi!

We tried - razor clams, scallops (HUGE), the selection of salads are amazing so we got the spicy mango - House Special Mango Salad with squid & escargot -- is spicy , tangy, refreshing, and the refreshing taste! My favorite dish was the HUGE fried fish...color is amazing and the way the fish was presented seal the deal for me. Between two people, we devoured the entire fish !! It's the kind of place where you order "just a few things" and suddenly the entire table is covered in food. As for other items, we got to try the beef broth pho which was safe for my daughter to eat who has a gluten, soy, sesame allergy. According to the waiter, the rice noodles that are usually safe are cooked in the same water as the other non allergen friendly noodles. So we just ordered a side of rice instead. Shoutout to our server who was kind enough to help us. He went above and beyond. The last time I visited on a Monday, the lot was completely full, and I ended up parking on the street. The restaurant is also primarily cash only, so come prepared. They open early, making it a perfect breakfast spot for an early bowl of pho. The pho broth is exactly what I want when I'm craving comfort food--clean, flavorful, and incredibly soothing. However, the star of the meal for me was the chả giò. Wow. Although they arrived after our pho, they came out at the perfect temperature. I was hesitant to take a bite right away because freshly fried food usually burns my mouth, but these were just right. Crispy, airy, savory, and absolutely delicious. Paired with their fish sauce, it was perfection. I enjoyed the egg rolls so much that next time I'm definitely ordering the egg roll vermicelli bowl. Service was friendly and prompt despite how busy it was, and it's clear the staff works hard to keep things moving. One thing I love is seeing all of the awards and accolades displayed on the walls. Phở 79 received the prestigious James Beard America's Classics Award, and it's easy to understand why after one meal here. This restaurant is truly an Orange County icon.
