It''d been some time since I had sat inside the restaurant. It used to be a friend's/family's favority when they sold 4 burger combos for around 20 dollars or less, or when there were burrito cravings. It'd get packed mornings and weekends. If I walk by, it looks emptyish now days. I see some people eating food from it in the street once in a while. Their serving size has not change too much for some items. Others seem smaller from what I remember. I don't see or remember much issues when it came to food safety. It was remodeled and got a drive through constructed a while ago. It's setup is a bit weird. Their parking lot was small, now it feels smaller and compacted. The hours were limited for some time, it survived the pandemic, and it finally looks to be back in full day action. It has survive decades, no doubt by staff dedication, engagement and strength. A few hiccups and lack (here and there). The person who seemed to be the owner or in charge would feel to be determined. Striving on satisfaction, firm with employees, but reflected to be a fair and kind person. Everytime we went, they were present (and even worked the counter or other positions). We hardly had any problems with service. A very friendly staff. Apparently there is a new owner, but the website says it's still family owned. The place feels different. A bit less interactive and more rushed. I don't know why they direct for you to pick and choose before sitting. Similar to a fast food system. Some people say it isn't like that and others say this is how it is now. I guess it hasn't lost the random rythm it used to have haha. Sudden changes, a few, but it'd happen. There were times they randomly closed or open up late back in the days. Some decision out of the nowhere. Price is and was not the cheapest, just like any other restaurant. Like the more recent Paul's place a few blocks down the Glassell road, or Hercules on Chapman, or Perry's place (used to be Tom's place) on La palma. Obviously, price goes up through the years. Being local, they have to make money and save money somehow to survive. The workers seem amiable and feel experience. Service is fast and fair according to the type of food you choose. The food tastes good enough, but sometimes it lacks the old kick. read more

I'm saddened to say that Billy Boys Restaurant is not what it used to be. Once a cozy, welcoming spot cherished by the Hispanic community, it now feels like it's lost its soul amid gentrification. The food quality has noticeably declined, and the sense of warmth and community is gone. I ordered a Cali Burrito (like I always have for years) and it was missing key ingredients--no cheese, no sour cream. I had to return to the counter multiple times to ask for ranch, a glass of water, more coffee, and the missing items from my order. What was once seamless service now feels disjointed and inattentive. The hardworking waitresses, who used to add so much heart to the place, seem stretched thin--now acting as busboys and covering too much ground. It's clear that management has changed, and unfortunately, not for the better. Billy Boys used to be a gem for the local community. Now, it feels like we're being pushed out in favor of a new crowd, and it hurts to see that shift so clearly reflected in both the service and food. Had breakfast here over the weekend, for the first time after the remodel. The place looks great! Very clean and open, comfy booths or the option to sit at a table with chairs. The breakfast burritos are still the best in the city and the salsa is always on point. I noticed the drive thru is now open as well! Looking forward to coming back! read more
