Richmond location of this personal hotpot chain. Opened not too long ago. Quite popular with the younger crowd. Frequently busy during lunch and dinner. Went earlier on a weekday dinner time and they still have open tables. Like other Big Way's I've been to, the shop is not that big so pretty easy for all the seats to fill. It's a self-serve hotpot where there is a wall of ingredients, and you are given a bowl and pair of tongs to grab whatever you want. The food is priced by weight and you can choose from a number of soup bases. They have boba tea and some other appetizers you can order on the side. Once they weigh the ingredients, the shop cooks it in the soup of choice and brings it to your table. There's a small sauce bar to mix your own dipping sauce. The ingredient wall has a decent variety. I think the meat and fish ball are probably the most worth it, and maybe the shrimp. They have crawfish and crab, but those are mostly shell. The other seafood items like cuttlefish and fish slices shrink a lot after they get cooked. I got the main spicy soup base at medium heat. It was okay, not terrible but not that flavorful. My pot came to $21 before tax and tip. Someone with bigger appetite can easily hit $30, but if you have a small appetite it can be like $15. The meal includes some ice cream. The soft serve machine is next to the sauce bar, but you have to ask the staff for assistance. The matcha soft serve they gave was getting close to melting. Overall, food is okay but it's pretty affordable for hotpot. You can choose and pay for exactly the portion and ingredients you want, and it's pretty quick. I love Big Way for 3 reasons! 1. Ice cream is included for free! And they have different flavors every month! 2. The self serve bar means I can choose exactly what and how much goes in the pot! Take home the leftovers! 3. There's no fire on the table so the food gets cool enough to eat! This location is very efficient from greeting at the door to the service to the seating. It's nice to have small groups but a little more challenging for groups of 6 ir more because of the space. Staff do a great job of moving the line along and seating you after you order at the front. Their system really feels like an authentic Asian hotpot place and it's overall a really fun experience. Also they have reward points so that's a huge plus. Big Way does everything right! read more

We've been to Big Way a number of times now and it's never disappointed us! This location is smaller, so beware if you're coming with a big group as you may get seated in different tables. As far as food options are concerned, it has the same as the one on Alderbridge. If you're one of the few ones who hasn't tried Big Way, you're missing out! My fave broth is Tom Yum. @jfoodreviews here, So I've been seeing a lot of hype behind bigway hot pot. They have a location in downtown on robson, and I happened to be in the area in Richmond! The ackroyd road location is very new. It's a small location that probably only has 40-50 seats. I would NOT recommend going with more than 2 people max. As the wait took me roughly 1 hour. They do have booths , but if you have more people, you are hoping on the other party to finish and hoping not another big party is there before you too. The selection of items was good, I got the #4 tomato broth (most popular) and a few vegetables to try the broth. The drink was 25% of the bill: I enjoyed the broth, next time I would get more noodle packages as they are extremely light. At the end of the meal; they give you ice cream. We've been to several hot pot spots lately, and Big Way is definitely one of the more well-known names in the game. Despite hearing good things, I decided to check out their Richmond location, even though it's on the smaller side. I arrived around 5 PM--just before the dinner rush--but the place was already about 98% full. Like other hot pot places, the routine is familiar: grab a metal bowl and tongs, then make your way to the ingredient bar. However, this location only has one small wall panel for ingredients, which made the selection somewhat limited, process feel cramped and a bit rushed. The offerings were fairly standard--meats, seafood, greens, noodles, and more. They did have some extras like crayfish (already cooked, indicated by their red shells) and mini abalone on skewers, but I'd recommend avoiding the latter since they charge by weight. However, I appreciated the variety of greens, including seaweed and kale. Compared to a newer hot pot restaurant that opened nearby in March, this location felt noticeably tighter in both space and ambiance. The dining setup includes four small front tables spaced just 5.5 inches apart--not ideal if you're tall or broad-shouldered like me. There are also four booths along the left wall, which are better suited for groups of four or more. Unfortunately, most were occupied by couples, which limited options for larger parties. This time, I leaned into seafood--opting for fish slices, abalone, dry scallops and mussels--but skipped the crayfish and crab. They may look impressive, but there's not much meat inside, kind of like lobster or Dungeness crab. They do offer quartered crabs, but I decided to pass on those as well. The biggest letdown of the evening was the broth. I ordered the bone broth base, which arrived lukewarm at best. Hot pot should be hot--in temperature and flavour--and sadly, this missed the mark. I didn't bother complaining; even if they reheated it, the ingredients would've been overcooked, and I didn't want to risk the horror stories you sometimes hear about kitchens taking revenge on complaints. I suspect my soup was left on the kitchen counter for too long and those servers aren't really professional in my humble opinions. Seriously, once the soup is delivered by the cook, it should be taken to the customers as soon as possible and not after several minutes sitting on the counter. Surprisingly, this restaurant charges $2.50 for a small bowl of steamed rice. Pity--it was a total letdown. The rice was mushy, overly moist, and definitely not jasmine rice. For the price, it was way below expectation and added another layer of disappointment to the meal. To cap things off, they do have an ice cream machine, but it's not self-serve. You need to flag down a server, which isn't easy since they're constantly running around. And when I finally got one, the serving was so tiny it barely filled the cone. Overall, my experience here was underwhelming. After visiting other hot pot places with better space, service, and value, this felt more like a trendy spot targeting the Gen Z crowd looking for a good selfie backdrop than a quality dining experience. We came on a Sunday around 4 PM. We had to wait for a table of 3 but they allowed us to put various items into our pot. They weigh your pot afterwards and then add the soup. It's such a fun concept, but be careful of not going overboard with your food. We got a seat after some time and then food came out within 10 minutes. Loved the different broth options. I had very high hopes coming here, all my friends and family raved about how great the food was. I had the green curry broth which was delicious. I enjoyed piling on every item I found. My cost was $22 so it goes by weight and I had noodles, dumplings, fish balls, mussels, lots of veggies and so much more. The service was pretty fast, we got our food within 15 minutes of paying. This place is really hyped up. It is very popular with the teens. Join the wait list beforehand or be prepared to wait outside in the cold. After you get in, there is a wall of ingredients to choose from but the check out line is so long that the people checking out are blocking half the ingredients. You have to make your way down the wall, but don't miss anything because you won't be able to go back, there will be a solid line of people behind you. At the same time, staff are trying to shove their way to the wall to replenish the ingredients. After you pay and get a table, you will be elbow to elbow with the people on either side of you. As, I said, this place is very popular with teens and they are loud. Do not come here if you are on a first date. Everyone has to talk loud to be heard. The tables are ridiculously packed together. The Sa Cha broth is terrible. The miso broth barely tastes like miso. The tomato broth is not as bad as the Sa Cha but still not good. The only good things about this place are the ingredients and the included ice cream at the end. Finally, while we were there, the line up was out the door and people were standing in the doorway with the door open. It is very cold! The staff should not allow people to stand in the doorway with the door open, you will be hit with a cold draft if your table is by the door. read more

Food - huge variety to choose from. Smoked duck is always a must for me whenever I go there (weekly!) My orders ranges from $15-$22. I love that they don't have a minimum weight limit. My little one's first time there was $6 (now $15) and the cashiers didn't make any judgement and gave the same consistent friendly service asking what soup base and garnishes she would like with her order. Lots of soup base choices. My always go to is the Ma La Tang - medium spice level. However the last two times it felt like the chef just dumped a ton of spice in it making it unbearable to eat. I had to wait until my little one was done with her collagen broth to transfer my food into hers. Service - The last time I went (2 days ago), the waiter asked us how everything was. I casually told him it was good but a tad too spicy. He was very accommodating and said there has been a change of recipe and that next time let them know and they will always be glad to bring another soup for anyone if it is too spicy. Ambiance - wish the place was bigger with more seating. Must join the waitlist an hour ahead of time if you want to go in during regular meal hours. Lineups are long, but moves quickly. I do not recommend coming during peak hours with larger groups; as they tetris seating in the restaurant (albeit very effectively).
