We stopped here on our way to camp for the weekend, about 8pm on a Friday night. At first I was super excited because the restaurant is a train car. I love that kind of quirkiness. We walked in and the place was pretty busy, according to Yelp it was the only non-chain restaurant listed that was open at the time. I'll say here: the food wasn't bad tasting, the home made coleslaw tasted good except that it was very luke-warm (like it had been sitting out for the entire day). The thing that made me uncomfortable: the entire place was filthy. Old is one thing, but if you never do a deep clean in your restaurant things can go downhill fast. Main points I noticed: the menus were so filthy my hands stuck to them, the windows next to each table were so layered with black gunk it was completely unappetizing, and I caught a glimpse inside the kitchen on my way to the bathroom and had to look away quickly for fear of looking too closely... Ordered the small baked potato with brisket and and order of fried okra. Both were delicious. Service was very good. We were seated by the window of the train car, very nice. This is a good place to eat in Willcox, near the historic district and across the street from the vintage train depot. Saw a long train zip through town as we were leaving, very fun. Traffic through town was blocked for about 2 minutes which cause a major traffic jam of about 15 cars and pickups. We watched and waved at the train as well as the traffic as it cleared. read more

Stopped here with a co-worker while traveling from Phoenix to El Paso. We saw the Yelp reviews and decided to try it. It's a cool little spot built around a real rail car. Not too far from I10, it was easy to find. It's a little rundown and is out of date inside, but that goes with the town. Service was lightning quick and they were about as friendly as they had to be. I has the lunch special, which was a pulled pork sandwich with a choice of sides. The sandwich was served on a really tasty, tender bread. They have a tangy sauce that I really liked. I chose beans as my side, and they were plain old beans, just what I expected. My co-worker had a huge loaded baked potato with pulled pork. He said that he enjoyed it. I've had pulled pork sandwiches in every corner of the country, but Big Tex's was different. Many of the pieces were crunchy, as if we'd gotten the ends of the roast. This place is very good. I had the Saturday special of baby back ribs and they were among the best I've had. 19.00 for the rib plate but cheap compared to what i normally pay at home.I ordered blue cheese dressing for my salad and they actually brought a small cup of real blue cheese crumbles along with the dressing. I lived in the local area for almost 2 years, and have been to Big Tex quite a few times. My first visit (Spring 2012) left much to be desired, and the chicken was dry and chewy. I didn't return for a few months, but finally went with a few friends and the food was SO MUCH better! Brisket was very tasty and fell apart with the fork, chicken and pork were both incredible. Total B.S. on 'slow cooked' BBQ Brisket. Tough as leather with absolutely no taste in the meat. The BBQ sauce was worthless and weak. I'll never be back. In fact, I didn't even feed the left overs to my dogs as that would be insulting to them as well. We came here for dinner even though the last time we came the food was pretty bad. I had a half rack of ribs which was super moist and flavorful! Success! This is why people come to these places! Everyone else had decent to good food..hurray! The onion rings were very good and we tried the jalapeno coins- nice as well. If you're from out of town, do yourself a favor and grab a Monkey Shine (brewed locally in Tucson from Nimbus Brewery)..it's 8.2% ABV so if you plan on drinking 3+ watch out, they catch up with you. 4 of us came, drank a bit (and then some), ate a bit and spent 50$ combined.. not too bad! read more

The food and the decor get four, the server gets 1.5, so we'll call it a three. The brisket was tasty. A couple of end pieces bordered on burnt, but were edible. Onion rings were good. They have corn nuggets! As a southern man, I LOVE me some corn nuggets. The waitress, however, took at least fifteen minutes to arrive, got our order wrong, didn't bring drinks until after she delivered the food, forgot the appetizer, and had to be asked for flatware (you CAN eat brisket with your fingers, but ...). I would eat there again, but I would change tables if the same waitress showed up. At one point I heard the server exclaim to a friend who was eating in the restaurant "I haven't been able to even LOOK at my phone for the lady half hour!" So I don't get to Willcox much and the family and i were on our way to Apple Annies Orchered, we were feeling some BBQ. So we Yelped and came up with this unique spot. The atmosphere was awesome, it is a passenger (rail) car converted into a diner. The BBQ was pretty good depending on what you had. I am a BBQ fanatic. I have been all over the US and World trying BBQ where ever my job takes me. Out of my comfort zone I tried the BBQ chicken. I never get it b/c I am usually scared of dry chicken and no flavor but this was amazing. I got the combo plate which gave me some fries and brisket as well. The rub and bbq sauce combo was to die for on the chicken and I couldn't get enough. As for the Brisket, it wasn't what I expected after finishing off my chicken. The bbq sauce couldn't help the brisket any and so I only ate a few slices. Fries were off the chain so I ate mine my daughters and some of my wife's! Overall, I think its a pretty good spot for tourist to grab a bite. I will definitely be back to try out other things on the menu! read more

The breaded okra was a generous portion and perfect for the 3 of us as an appetizer. The staff seemed a little short and the fries were cold and soggy. Called ahead to make sure they could accommodate my dad and his wheelchair. Sure! We had to roll him up a steep ramp and into the back room. Bathroom is not handicap accessible at all. We should have left. The best part of my pulled pork sandwich was the bun. Pork was flavorless and tough. Comes with a tablespoon of BBQ sauce. Dill pickles were inedible. Potato salad was good. Brisket also touch and not seasoned. Service was pleasant but she kept disappearing. I had to find cups and styro containers to take our leftover lunch. If this is the best restaurant in town, there are no good restaurants in WIllcox (even a hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant just off the freeway was better). I like meat barbecued, not cooked and then slavered with barbecue sause. I guess that is the Texas style. I had pastrami, which seemed barely cured. My companion had a stuffed baked potato. It was huge, but neither the potato nor the meat (pulled pork) were improved by stuffing the meat in the potato (along with a lot of cheese). I also thought that the barbecue sauce on the potato skin ruined the potato skin taste. The cuteness of a railroad dining car was reduced by it being opened on the side like a double-wide trailer. And there is outdoor seating on the train window side. Our waitress was friendly and patient. The menu is not extensive, but for some reason we were slow to make up our minds (and then disappointed with what we chose).
