Big Tex BBQ in Willcox is one of the few delicious places you can eat in this area- however , is the only I know in Willcox that has the amazing railroad dining car as the restaurant you climb a few stairs to enter , but a robot named Rowdy , who delivers food to the tables once you order! The brisket sandwich I had was tasty- especially after the bbq sauce I added. The potato salad was different , seemed pureed , and still tasty. I ordered the Dane thing to take to my friend who was watching my dog while I went out- he loved all of it! I did have a cocktail called the Dancing Drip I think? Had vodka and other things but it was pretty and tasty was all I know! Forgot to take pic of all the food and rest of menu- enjoying the fun conversation with the other 4 friends who I was with! Stopped here before hitting a few of the wine tasting spots in town. It has a train dinner car, really cool, outside and other inside seating plus a bar. Lots of interesting decorations with a cowboy theme. They even have robots bring the foot making sounds of a train. I had the Salad bar, fresh ingredients and an ample selection of. My friend had the pastrami sandwich with pinto beans. He said it tasted good and the sandwich had an ample amount of pastrami. We came for the Wilcox wine festival but we wanted some food after as we don't really like wine. Friends had some drinks that prices weren't listed. $14 for a rum & coke. Not expecting that. I ordered my food at the restaurant to go. There are no signs that said to seat yourself or wait to be seated. I was waiting to see what I needed to do to place an order. Two ladies came in behind me and also waited. Finally a waitress said we can sit wherever and I can order at the counter. I ordered the 2 meat meal and chocolate chip cookies. So the ribs were extremely hard on the outside and dry. I thought I was going to choke in my hotel room by myself. The pork was very dry and had a weird taste like it was reheated. The Mac was over cooked and mushy. No flavor. The fries didn't seem to have salt either. Normally I don't waste food but I couldn't eat it. Ended up just eating fries and cookies. Made a stop in for a nice dinner and desert after a visit to Chiricahua National Monument. The diner is absolutely delightful inside decorated for Christmas to the "9s". The one shocking thing was a robot server! Had table waitress and she also served from the robot but it was a total shocker and it made train sounds. Appropriate I suppose. We've passed by here a couple of times and finally had the chance to stop by. I'm certainly glad we did. We enjoyed a delicious lunch here and will definitely be back again. The server was attentive and the food came out really quick. The location wasn't that busy for a Saturday afternoon, which we found surprising. The menu has a sizable selection. I had the brisket sandwich and the beer battered fries. Lots of fries. The beer selection is quite good. And the amount of food for the price is quite reasonable. The interior is a bit "cavernous" and I find that charming. A great experience; I look forward to going back. We live about an hour and half from Wilcox and make the trip as often as possible JUST to eat here. The food has been consistently delicious every single time. The brisket, sausage, chicken, burgers, and sides have always been so good. I do not eat BBQ out because I am never impressed and I can make it better at home. BUT Big Tex is the exception. It is the ONLY BBQ place in Arizona that I rave about. The atmosphere is fun and western and the beer comes in huge icy mugs. The servers have always been friendly and fast. I can't get enough of this place and I only wish it were closer. I STRONGLY recommend. The Food overall I would say was good! The fries are trash UNLESS you get the beer battered ones. It took forever to get our drinks and beer which was kinda crazy. Mom and I were in Wilcox and she remembered she had been to 'The Train Restaurant". I had never been there, so we headed there after our business in town. This is a BBQ spot but neither of us tried got it. I didn't want something that heavy so I ordered the Cauliflower pizza (mushroom, pineapple, and ham) with a side of the Okra to share. Mom got the ham and cheese sandwich. The pizza was nice but the mushrooms were obviously canned (not my favorite). Not being too hungry, I brought have of it home. I really liked the okra as did mom. We were in Willcox for a couple of days to visit Chiricahua National Monument, and didn't feel like Mexican food. Willcox isn't exactly a haven for culinary activity, but Big Tex was rated well on a couple of other ratings sites. We live in Texas, so I was skeptical about getting good brisket at Big Tex. My husband ordered the brisket platter, while I opted for a cheesesteak sandwich (and an ice cold draft beer). The brisket platter came with 2 sides, I chose to upgrade to sweet potato fries from the regular fries that came with my sandwich. Portions were quite large for the price. But the brisket tasted old and dry, and had no signs of being smoked other than a slightly smoky flavor. The sides were ok. My cheesesteak was a bit on the salty side but tasted good. (Side note: I took half of my cheesesteak back to my hotel. It reheated beautifully in the microwave.) The sweet potato fries were the only truly outstanding item in our orders. The place was nearly empty on a recent Thursday evening. Service was good. If you want to fill up at a reasonable price and aren't particular about what you eat, you might like Big Tex brisket.
