I ordered my food at the restaurant to go. There are no signs that said to seat yourself or wait to be seated. I was waiting to see what I needed to do to place an order. Two ladies came in behind me and also waited. Finally a waitress said we can sit wherever and I can order at the counter. I ordered the 2 meat meal and chocolate chip cookies. So the ribs were extremely hard on the outside and dry. I thought I was going to choke in my hotel room by myself. The pork was very dry and had a weird taste like it was reheated. The Mac was over cooked and mushy. No flavor. The fries didn't seem to have salt either. Normally I don't waste food but I couldn't eat it. Ended up just eating fries and cookies. Made a stop in for a nice dinner and desert after a visit to Chiricahua National Monument. The diner is absolutely delightful inside decorated for Christmas to the "9s". The one shocking thing was a robot server! Had table waitress and she also served from the robot but it was a total shocker and it made train sounds. Appropriate I suppose. We had the nachos with brisket and jalapeños and loaded fries with brisket and jalapeños. The meat was super tasty and the fries were perfectly cooked. Would visit again. We've passed by here a couple of times and finally had the chance to stop by. I'm certainly glad we did. We enjoyed a delicious lunch here and will definitely be back again. The server was attentive and the food came out really quick. The location wasn't that busy for a Saturday afternoon, which we found surprising. The menu has a sizable selection. I had the brisket sandwich and the beer battered fries. Lots of fries. The beer selection is quite good. And the amount of food for the price is quite reasonable. The interior is a bit "cavernous" and I find that charming. A great experience; I look forward to going back. The Food overall I would say was good! The fries are trash UNLESS you get the beer battered ones. It took forever to get our drinks and beer which was kinda crazy. When I go to a BBQ place I usually order brisket so Ive had my fair share of brisket in AZ, GA, FL and of course TX. I have to say their brisket was okay. Definitely not bad but not the best either . Mom and I were in Wilcox and she remembered she had been to 'The Train Restaurant". I had never been there, so we headed there after our business in town. This is a BBQ spot but neither of us tried got it. I didn't want something that heavy so I ordered the Cauliflower pizza (mushroom, pineapple, and ham) with a side of the Okra to share. Mom got the ham and cheese sandwich. The pizza was nice but the mushrooms were obviously canned (not my favorite). Not being too hungry, I brought have of it home. I really liked the okra as did mom. It was a reminder of the days we grew it and fixed it when I was a kid. There was such a large serving, again more for the refrigerator at home. Mom enjoyed the ham and cheese. First of all, we loved the look of this place and creative decor. Waitresses could've been more welcoming and attentive. We had to interrupt their conversations a couple time to get refills and additional items. We ordered two plates of "The Texan" that were said to have 2.5lbs of meat. We ordered premium sides for additional cost which included mashed potatoes, onion rings and Mac n cheese. If I'm completely honest, the Mac tasted like KFCs and mashed potatoes like instant. The meat in both sandwiches were completely devoid of taste. A bit dry and very disappointing despite paying over $15 each. The salad bar for an additional $2 was just OK. Nothing great or outstanding. The server was kind and polite, but the service was lacking. We had to track someone down to get extra napkins. Willcox isn't exactly a haven for culinary activity, but Big Tex was rated well on a couple of other ratings sites. We live in Texas, so I was skeptical about getting good brisket at Big Tex. My husband ordered the brisket platter, while I opted for a cheesesteak sandwich (and an ice cold draft beer). The brisket platter came with 2 sides, I chose to upgrade to sweet potato fries from the regular fries that came with my sandwich. Portions were quite large for the price. But the brisket tasted old and dry, and had no signs of being smoked other than a slightly smoky flavor. The sides were ok. My cheesesteak was a bit on the salty side but tasted good. (Side note: I took half of my cheesesteak back to my hotel. It reheated beautifully in the microwave.) The sweet potato fries were the only truly outstanding item in our orders. The place was nearly empty on a recent Thursday evening. Service was good. If you want to fill up at a reasonable price and aren't particular about what you eat, you might like Big Tex brisket. The brisket must have been cooked in an oven as there was no smoke ring nor smoke taste. Even Okies would have at least used liquid smoke. We needed lunch before heading over to Chiricahua NM yesterday, and the four of us stopped in. I've driven by this place for years and was looking forward to finally trying it. The front dining room is in an old rail car (see photos), very nice! They also have two other spacious rooms, so they can handle large crowds. It was "seat yourself" when we were there. I had to use the restroom before sitting down - check out the Texas sinks!! The menu is not huge, but has all the typical BBQ entrees, combo platters, etc. One item that caught my eye was the green bean fried in onion batter, so we gave these a shot (see photo). They are fantastic, I highly recommend them!! The waitress warned us our meals would "not be long", and boy was she right - they arrived in minutes!! I ordered sausage + ribs combo plate, but when she brought my meal she had mixed up brisket for the ribs. She nicely brought an order of ribs for me and told me to keep the brisket, which was great customer service!! Here's our collective votes on the BBQ: Sausage - wonderful - the skin has a really nice "pop" when you bite into it. Ribs - excellent, but just a little dry Brisket - it was a slice containing both flat and point, so a bit fatty and not as tender as I like. I'd avoid it. We did not have either the chicken nor the pulled pork so can't comment on those. The sides were all wonderful - everyone really liked the beans. The "roll" that came with the meal was basically a big hamburger bun - not very good. The service was wonderful - she was very helpful and stopped by to check on us just often enough.
