Hard to find much open in Wilcox on a Sunday. Drove by this place very hungry. Walked in to what I would call a dive bar. They had steaks and burgers that you cook yourself. The three of us had two burgers and a small steak. The salad bar was pretty good. I cooked the burgers and steak. The grill temperature was good so the cooking was easy. We really enjoyed this place! We were looking for a spot to grab dinner and watch the Bills / Chiefs game... Go Bills*! Rix's happened to not only meet our basic needs, but also if you can even believe it, was an unofficial Bills Bar. EVERYONE was rooting for the Bills or knew Josh Allen or just hated KC. It was perfect! Shiner Beer is my favorite beverage when watching sports and the gal behind the bar hooked me up with an ice cold one. Now here's where things get a little different. You can order food, but you have to cook it. They have a nice variety of meat options and we choose the burgers. The gas-fired grill was well equipped with seasonings and sauces... pretty much anything you need. There were a couple of bread options and a few toppings. On the side was a lot of beans and a salad bar. I wasn't brave enough for the salad bar, but the beans were great... just needed some chow chow. The burgers cooked up real nice and it was a good, filling meal. The price was pretty reasonable with 2 burgers and 6 beers setting us back about $80. What a fun place. I was traveling and stay stayed in Wilcox for the night and walked to downtown looking for a bite to eat. Saw Rix's and sign says they had steaks. Walked right in and the place had a crown. Turns out it was pool night and patrons were shooting pool at rvs two tables. Sat down at the bar and asked the bartender about the steaks. She told me that in Rix's you get the steaks ( 4 different cuts) and cook you own at the grill in the back of the bar. Got my 6oz steak that came with a salad, stuff potatoes, beans and Texas toast for $15! I cooked me a meal, had a few drinks at the bar and talked to the bartender and one of the locals. Very chill and cool place. Will definitely come back next time I'm in Wilcox. read more

It's a dive bar where you cook your own steak. The ambience matched that, but I was there for that. The service was friendly and attentive. The problem was the food. Their largest steak was a thin ribeye with zero marbling. If you're thinking the best way to cook a thin steak is low and slow, you'd be happy here. By the time it got browned on both sides it was well done, and don't even think about any kind of crust. I can't remember having a worse steak. The salad bar was pretty limited, which would be understandable, but all the lettuce was browning. Not some. All the lettuce. The beans were decidedly bland. They didn't screw up the baked potato. They forgot the Texas toast, but at that point I was thoroughly underwhelmed. The drinks were decent for a dive bar. I'd drink here again, but need to be drunk to eat here again. read more

Driving through a sandstorm is no parade my friends. And when the highway patrol shuts down a freeway so your big haul doesn't end up a relic on side of the 10 freeway in the middle of the desert, you do just that, hunker down for the night. And on this good night, I landed smack dab in the land that time forgot. I smash the curb with the rig in front of Rixs Tavern. Woke the crew and we headed in. The door creaked open and the sunlight blinded the bar vampires inside. They cringed at the sight of the sunlight as if they wished the sun would just go away. When the door closed and the dust settled, there we stood in that bar you have seen in every movie. The locals mill about and glare at the presence of a stranger. "Take a deep breath boys, that's the smell of buckets of Friday night spilled beer and blood." I've seen so many bars like this in the movies that I can't help to feel at home here. This place was amazing!! We stopped in on a Sunday because a lot of restaurants were closed and we were intrigued by the U cook'em thing. The bartender was super nice and explained everything to us. We were the only folks in there who weren't locals but it wasn't uncomfortable at all. Anyway, we told her what we wanted, she defrosted our choice of meat, got us our baked potatoes and showed us all the fixings. I gotta say I LOVE this cook it yourself model...if it's bad you have no one to blame but yourself!! Also, they have a good selection of beers on draft, plus bottles and a full bar. Stopped here on our way to Phoenix from Austin. Service is great and, despite being a local dive, it was incredibly clean and in good repair. Ordered a burger and was a bit surprised to be handed a raw hamburger patty. Around the corner was a full commercial kitchen setup, so I proceeded to cook my and my wife's beef on this clean and well seasoned grill. Lots of seasoning and all the right tools... it was fun! Meal was excellent and prices were very reasonable. We ended up staying a lot longer than originally planned. They had a great DJ and Cece, the bartender did a fantastic job. She was attentive and fast with all our requests. Will definitely stop here next time we are in Willcox! read more

My friend and I came across this place on a road trip across country. It's a fantastic little bar with tons of character and a super nice bartender. But the coolest part is that you get to grill your own burgers/steaks/pork chops/etc. They fire it up for you, and you go nuts. I got the burger, and it was huge and delicious. Yep, you cook it on the public grill, grab veggies and such from the salad bar while that blonde cutie cooks up your baked potato. Keep your eye on your steak tho, because you are 100% responsible for the end results. While you wait there's a great jukebox and a boxing machine in the corner. What an interesting stop. It was late afternoon and we needed lunch. Problem it was New Years Eve, The other places in town were closed. So A burger at a bar. OK . where you cook your own? OK. Well we walked in and it was a local bar with a couple of pool tables and it looked very well worn, very. So I said honey lets give it a shot. well we did. They were busy setting up for the New Years Party, They were friendly, helpful, polite, and seemed like family. Well they were all family. There were three generations working there. The burger I cooked was simple and easy. There was a crock pot of beans, they needed a little spice for sure, Well burger was fine, the family was nice and the value was good. If you are in Wilcox, and like the look of history this is the place. If you want a gourmet burger, you better go to a big city. Wilcox is small and this could be the best in town. Ran into this place because we had a detour on the I10. We needed a brewski after the detour we took lead is to a dirt road that ran parallel to the railroad tracks. Ordered a few Coors lights and played some touch tones. Cece was lovely and helped us quickly. We enjoyed her kindness. I'll be back, but not because of a detour. read more

This a a great hole in the wall bar with a BBQ your self area. The hamburgers were awesome & everything was right there to make everything you could ask for. Reviews are good and bad, but some one indicated the price and I had enough $. I was suppose to cook out anyway. special was a Pork Chop for $7.50 included a rudimentary salad bar, beans, came with baked potato, though menu indicated it was a cost plus side. as indicated pork chop needed to be thawed out, beer hit the spot. bottom line two 16oz drafts, Pork chop dinner = $13.50 including tax. Go if you want something different, have the time, not too fussy on what you want to eat. Do not go if you do not want to cook, do not like meat, or are picky eater, are in a hurry. Terrible place, I had to make a yelp account just to let everybody know about this utterly disrespectful, racist place. My brother and I are from a town 20 miles away from Willcox, we where passing by and decided to stop at this bar, worst decision of my life! The vibe there was a country bar, which is fine. But when I put a tried to play the only, and I literally mean only non country or classic rock song on the touch tones jukebox. It was immediately turned off, by what seemed to be the owner. As she turned it off we heard her say, and I quote, "nobody wants to listen to that". As we had already ordered 2 burgers, we decided to eat and leave. It took 15 mins for the waitress to take us two plates of raw uncooked ground beef. She explained its a "U-Cook-em restaurant". (That's no restaurant, its a joke). I asked her why it took so long to get our raw meat, she replied" it needed to thaw". (Not fresh meat)I then asked why are is the price so ridiculously expensive, given that we have to cook them? She replied, "that's the way it is" then walked off. We decided the place was not for us, left money on the table, and got ready to leave. On the way out, the owner started yelling at my brother because of his hat. It seemed as if she was drunk, slurring her words. Yelling, "we don't allow hats in here!!!" I looked around and saw every single man at that place had a hat on. But we where the only colored people there. We didn't want anything to do with that place and kept on walking outside, as she kept yelling. I do not recommend this place to anyone, I wouldn't even send my worst enemy here. If I wanted to cook my own meal I can do so at the comfort of my own home, for half the price. Not to mention the racist rant. Bar needs to be shut down or under new management.
