This is a very good dive with great vibe and it ain't no jive! Stopped in recently while traveling from Kartchner Caverns to Mescal and discovered this quaint, not so little, but very awkwardly laid out join call Mescal Bar and Grill - you can't miss it from the road, there's a gorilla staring at you while you drive by! This Roadhouse shows its age, but with it comes value, attention to service with some good eats at very reasonable moola! They have ongoing events, have a live stage - although I don't think the gorilla performs! I was pleasantly surprised at the diverse menu options available here which include Carne Asada sandwich, breakfast sausage muffin to ham, eggs and bacon to Shepard's Pie, Steak and Shrimp to Tuna Tacos, Empanadas or Pizza, plus much, much more. We stopped in for a Modelo, a Barrio Blonde, some terrific fresh battered zucchini and some decent fries! All good! We'll be stopping in with every passing by we do. read more

I came here on a recommendation, and can't say I was all that impressed. Stopped for breakfast and while the menu has some good choices there's not much out of the ordinary. I truthfully wasn't expecting much either,.especially after driving up. This is one of those local places,.simple and basic,.where the food could be really awesome,.or simply awful. It fell into the latter category. I ordered the chicken fried steak with two eggs, 'over easy'. It's something I rarely would order for breakfast, yet seemed enticing. Besides, I was hungry. I got it with a side of biscuits and gravy. Why not? Could be really good! The coffee was so-so, and frankly I've had a hard time finding any decent coffee in Arizona. Spoiled and arrogant, perhaps, but come on, watered down mild roast doesn't cut it. When the tood arrived it looked like a mass of white gravy sludge. OK, but give it a chance. It could taste good? Nope. The meal was tasteless, devoid of any flavor, and had a very strange metallic taste. Lots of Tabasco helped some. The eggs were just OK in preparation for 'over easy', but cold. The hash browns were horrible pattys of frozen bricks. And, what happened to the toast listed on the menu? Unfortunately, the biscuits and gravy also were bland and tasteless. Very disappointing. I can't even vouch for the consistency of the biscuit since they were so heavily smothered in lifeless gravy. It is good to note that three others in my dining party seemed fine with their meals, although there wasn't much comment either. I didn't want to be too critical as one was a local who gave the recommendation and really likes the place. The restaurant and bar has character, for an Old West kind of bar theme. I do give two stars as service was good and sincere. They seemed to want to do right. I would have said something about the quality yet I seriously doubt it would have mattered... and perhaps it was just me and not what their typical clientele expects. read more

Went here for dinner last night since everything in town closed at 8pm. We were somewhat apprehensive when approaching in the dark, but rest assured it was amazing !! Brynn and her team made two Philly Cheesesteaks and curly fries. They were both amazing. Brynn was absolutely welcoming and suggested a side of au jus with our cheesesteaks. 10 out of 10, and we may end up back there another night. I don't know why the place wasn't hoppin, but it should have been, it was that good ! read more

This bar is off the highway on a sort of frontage road. Bar food is what I expected-think greasy patty melt-but a good one. Service is above average considering there was one person tending the bar and serving the tables. Definitely gives small town bar vibes-made me think of the scene in that Pee Wee Herman movie. We drove down the highway heading home from a trip and noticed this place from the freeway was packed. We live in Vail so thought we would try it out one day for lunch! Based on the current reviews over time I would venture to say the reviews span multiple owners/changing hands. The place was clean, that is huge these days right? While they clearly did not have any mask requirements, no hand sanitizer out -- the place was clean and tidy and did not feel unsafe in a pandemic sense. Looks like they do live music as well and had a DJ station. The folks working there were SUPER friendly/welcoming, particularly our server who was really sweet and attentive. The menu is pub/bar food. We ordered some Jalapeno Poppers, a burger and a steak sandwich. The food was okay -- to me it was meh. I am not sure if it was the length of time it took to get these items when we were the only ones there or that the food was just status quo. read more

Wife and I went here on a Saturday evening to grab a drink. This is definitely a dive bar that was 80% empty at 8. We sat at the bar and the bartender took our order of a large Coors Light and a house margarita. For an empty bar/restaurant, she pretty much ignored us and had zero personality. We definitely got the "for locals only" vibe. After our drinks sat empty for 10 minutes she finally walked 10 feet down the bar to ask us if we wanted refills. We opted do for our check. We were surprised when she told us $13 for the 2 drinks (remember this is a total dive bar off the beaten path). Anyone who brags about the "ambiance" is stretching the truth. Wife thinks she charged us more than the locals because this group wouldn't be paying $5 for a beer when they can get a 15 pack of Natty Light for $11. read more

We stopped here for lunch after trail riding in the Happy Valley Road area, and are we glad we did! We were greeted with a "hello" by the bartender when we walked in and decided to sit at the bar for lunch. The restaurant and bathrooms were very clean and the dining area right by the bar had some nice posters and decorations on the wall. It's obviously a hangout spot for folks that live in the area (there was a nice lunch crowd), but everyone was welcoming. Service at the bar was great! We had a beer (some on tap and several selections of bottled beer) and ordered the Southwest Cheeseburger, with jalapenos. The burger was nicely served with a knife through the bun and had generous toppings. It was cooked nicely, and the fries were piping hot. We enjoyed our lunch here, and left full after arriving hungry. read more

Not really a dive bar per say, but a nice bar in the country with a decent grill selection. Not much on tap, but at least there were options aside from Bud. I will say the good was tasty and served warm. We were there on a slow Sunday after Labor Day and the people were locals with very friendly staff and manager who checked on us regularly. Pool Table and shuffle board available with sports on several TVs. Indoor and outdoor seating. Right off the highway West of Benson and East of Tucson. Looks like bikers and regulars come by often. This is a very welcoming local country bar! It doesn't matter if you're a biker or a businessman; everyone is welcome! They have a patio that's open to smokers, pool tables, and a very comfortable wraparound bar. They were nice selection of alcohol, but it's not a large selection. If you're a wine drinker, this is probably not your place. However, if you like A small selection of craft beers or a Premier cocktail, the bartender says will take care of you! The regulars are extremely welcoming to anyone who joins them at their version of Cheers. The menu is not extensive, but they make a great hamburger! They have specials almost every day such as ugly steak and salad, taco night on Sundays, and other good stuff. They keep the jukebox going, have nights when people play bingo or poker, and have several regular unique tournaments inside the bar. Don't miss the big gorilla outside! Brought a large group of really good people to this place to celebrate a birthday of a dear friend of mine. Everything was going great, we were all having fun, our first waitress was amazing and very polite. It wasn't till she had to go home and this short lady that goes by the name of Krissy or Christie starts to wait on us.... The whole tune changed, she was rude to 2 of my guests and called one of my guests 2 days later about an "unpaid tab"... This has happened to my guest twice with the same bartender. We put the whole tab on 1 ticket, it was paid, we left, and she never said anything to us about an unpaid tab on our end. I could understand if she was confused if they were busy, but it wasn't. She was unprofessional and rude to some of our guests and We will no longer go if she works there. If she wasn't there, our night would have been perfect. All the other employees were very kind and accommodating. I'm shocked that such a cool bar would hire someone like her. read more

We have driven by this place for years. Always wanted to stop, but never seemed to have the time until today. The restaurant was clean, the wait staff was friendly and efficient. It's definitely bar food, but good. Yeah we ordered the southwest burger and the shrimp basket. The burger was a nice big portion, very juicy with a very soft buttery bun. The tomato was freshly sliced not the crappy fast-food kind of tomato. The shrimp was breaded and deep-fried, very light not greasy. We got the sweet potato fries with the shrimp and were not disappointed as they were tasty and crispy. They don't have an extensive selection of beer on tap however it was nice and cold when it came to the table which was welcome on a hot Arizona day. The food came out quickly. Bathrooms were clean, and we got to see some locals sing Karaoke. It seems like it's a local place, with regulars. But they were very welcoming. Give it a try if you're passing by. read more

I am 2 miles from here and there is absolutely 2 options within 15 miles from this point in life... Ha! Nice comfy bar with good bartenders. Owners work there and cook really good food. Best burgers and fish & chips in the area. Nice outdoor area for the warmer months. Place is spotless.
