Our party of seven was warmly greeted and promptly seated. They offer a nice kid's menu. The Rueben, Alfredo, pulled pork and Vegi burger were very good! Service was excellent! Of the beers we ordered, the Papermaker was top shelf. Only misstep was the fish and chips. Nice batter but small portions of fish that weren't very good. We had an absolutely horrendous experience here and I do not recommend this spot to anyone. We came in with a large group around 4pm while we were here for an 8th grade basketball tournament. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant and they were very overwhelmed with the thought of serving us. They were very picky about where we could sit in the back tables and were rude when we sat in 5 tables rather than the four they prepared for us. I wasn't sure what drink to order so the server suggested the special which was not my style and I ended up wasting it. I think it was grapefruit something. I just ordered dessert, creme brûlée - nothing to complain about that. However, my aunt ordered the tomato soup but it was more like salsa. She hardly touched that too. We asked the server several times if we needed to tell him who goes on what checks for splitting the bill but he replied that he's "got a system". This was the nightmare part. His "system" failed miserably. He had no idea what to do since the kids ordered extra ranches and refills on drinks that costs extra. This left all the parents to try and figure out what went where. We had the kids leave because they we're going to miss their 2nd game at Carson elementary if they didn't leave. What a nightmare experience. read more

My mom is obsessed with this place and always talks about visiting here whenever she is out on adventures in the Gorge, so my husband and I decided to stop here on our way home from hiking for lunch. The good: we only had a couple sandwiches but they were very delicious! I had the Reuben which had lots of tender corned beef and a perfect meat/cheese ratio. The bread wasn't soggy at all as it gets with many Reuben sandwiches, but it was lacking enough thousand island and sauerkraut for my taste. 8/10 It is such a cute, old-timey atmosphere and I love all the figurines and license plates on the wall (look for the toy story cast hanging out above the bar!). The only issues we ran into were that one, it was FREEZING cold. Our booth was next to an air vent which they brought out vent covers for, but it was still uncomfortably cold. And two (I'll go easy here because everyone is understaffed), my husband and I both had Arnold Palmers (non-alcoholic) and it took about 20 minutes for each refill. I had to share his to wash down my sandwich and we never got a water refill. We will likely be back and look forward to trying more food! read more

One of my favorite places to stop coming back from a day in the Gorge, the salmon sandwich is my favorite go to, I've had it about 4x and never disappoints! Great black bean chili when available, just the right amount of spicy kick! Super friendly helpful staff. The sturgeon dip is also really delicious and unique! First time here but we will be back for sure. The beer selection is a bit limited but we both found something that was OK, not great enough to order a second round though. The food was great! I ordered the Turkey Club with the awesome African Peanut soup. My other half ordered the BRG Reuben which was pretty damn good also. Only real complaints are that we were charged $1 more for my Turkey Club than what was shown on the QR code menu. Also when asked if he wanted ketchup my partner said no thanks maybe just Thousand Island. He got a tiny side scoop of it but we were charged 75¢ for the small dollop. This is my 2nd time eating at this GEM! Service was polite and attentive!! Tonight I got a burger, was perfection! My husband got the Cajun prawn with Alfredo. Hates that they leave the tales on but was really tasty! Now, let get to DESSERT! I GOT Pumpkin cheesecake the first time I was here and tonight Mexican Chocolate Cinnamon cheesecake, yep it was AMAZING! They have a Root beer float made with BRG's own Root beer! My wife and I stopped into Big River for lunch and beers after hiking Hamilton Mountain. Free street parking can be found. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Big River offers bar, booth, table and outdoor seating. Decor is laid-back and the AC was refreshing after sweating for hours. We had fun reading all the different license plates that are mounted on the walls. My wife and I each ordered a pint of beer for $5.75 to sip on while reading the menu. My wife and I shared the Turkey Club sandwich for $12.95: turkey, bacon, cheddar and Swiss cheese, tomato and lettuce served on a Ciabatta roll. For our side we chose the green salad for an up-charge of $2. The sandwich toppings were fresh and generous. The bacon was crisp and flavorful. The salad was refreshing. We were both pleased with our lunch choice. I also ordered a cup of the Soup of the Day (Manhattan clam chowder) for $3.50. The soup was tasty and a nice change from the standard Clam Chowder especially on a hot day. Our server was friendly and efficient. Overall, we both decided that Big River was one of our favorite stops while playing the the WA/OR area for the weekend. read more

Checking this place off my list and I'm happy i added it. Ambiance is cool, eclectic. I had the fried chicken sandwich with sweet potatoes fries. It was messy and delicious. I didn't indulge in one of their many alcoholic beverage choices but as far as drinks thats all that is on the menu. The menu for food is limited, not alot of variety but good quality. The beer, wine and cocktail list is extensive. I waited for several minutes to be seated because the staff member was busy looking through t-shirts and the other was tending to already seated patrons. I guess because im eating solo i was told to find any available table in the back vs being seated. I had to ask for utensils and napkins. Getting acknowledged by wait staff is a common issue when dining alone at any restaurant. read more

We were seated right away and the restaurant was full but we didn't get our order placed for 30 min. Our food took another 30 min and arrived cold. There were four of us and all expressed afterwards that the food was substandard and we would not go back. There was no seasoning and shredded cheese was placed on everything including potatoes and hash. The smoked salmon was very poorly done and tasted fishy. For dinner - the most delicious carnivorous dream of a burger (we could each only finish half!!) and fresh, hot fries; and then the Dessert(s)... We knew from the meal we would need to share dessert... but narrowing it down was impossible! We settled on the Brownie McGee (OMG!!!! This thing was worth every calorie) and got the homemade Chocolate Cheesecake (with brownie crumbles) to take home for later! I made it there during the week and couldn't get hash and eggs because they didn't serve it during the week and we had to eat outdoors. That item wasn't on the outdoor menu. They told me I had to be there Saturday before 11. A month ago we stayed in Bingen for a couple days. We arrived at BRG at 11:20. Nope. Too late. We weren't interested in lunch so we drove home. I strongly suggest the very lean hash and eggs. And I STRONGLY SUGGEST calling first to see if it's the right day and time. read more

This place is tucked away in the Gorge in the little town of Stevenson. It's a great place to stop by for food and a drink after a gruelling hike. I stopped by after a morning hike for lunch during one of this year's little hear waves and lucked out being seated as a booth inside almost right away. The raspberry lemonade I ordered was incredibly tasty and just what I needed to rehydrate. I ended up ordered the high on fire Burger which has jalapenos, pepperjakc cheese, bacon, and and spicy mayo and was not disappointed. For the side, I ordered their soup special which was a salmon chowder. The chowder was pretty good - it had a decent amount of salmon and chunky veggies. Overall, it was a good experience even though they were definitely having a busy day. I would definitely come back if I was in the area. read more

Went in with a couple of friends on a 95 degree day after a visit to the beautiful Wahclella falls and was asked to leave because we were wearing tank tops that the male manager considered to be too revealing?? The reason given was that it was a "fine dining establishment"??? But their google listing is classified as "casual" and to me it appeared to be just a small grill spot with dirty little booths and no windows. Safe to assume management has some pretty old fashioned and regressive ideals. The male manager actually raised his voice and became quite aggressive and emotionally reactive with us when we asked him what was wrong with our attire. Really left us all feeling very unsettled and confused after an otherwise lovely day:-( read more

Stopped in here for dinner while exploring Stevenson. Got the steak sandwich and black and blue burger with the house salad on the side with a house made sesame vinaigrette. You could easily bottle that salad dressing and I would buy it all day- fantastic! The steak sandwich was delicious- the meat was tender and the sauce was delicious. All of the components made for a delightful bite. The black and blue burger was excellent as well. The flavor of the burger was on point. Stopped here a few mornings later to try the breakfast people were raving about. The raves were not misplaced. The porky sandwich will go down as one of the best breakfast sandwiches we've eaten (and I've had a lot). Homemade focaccia bread as well as homemade sagey sausage, bacon, ham, and cream cheese. Herby and so good. Had the scrabble and that was great too. Love the Melvins and assorted punk rock posters around the place and the outside patio was charming. read more

I have to admit that I almost gave this place four stars instead of five because the clientele was just a little off. All were elderly and not smiling, so I felt like I was in a creepy movie. I'm in my 50's, so I have nothing against elderly; it just felt weird. We called in late at night to sit outside but we were told the dining area was closed and we could only pick up our food. When we got there, we saw several people dining outside so we immediately asked if we could eat outside. The waitress hesitated a bit but then agreed that was fine. We got sat and our food was ready. No drinks were offered to us, so we walked back to our car to get water. No one came to check on us which was fine since we didn't need any additional food but it would of been nice to order a drink. Although the plate had a good presentation, the garlic sauce and butter they use was super salty. If you get this plate make sure they put that sauce on the side. This plate was about $29.00. I would of rated the place a 5 star but the customer service wasn't there and the steak was salty. read more
