Delicious. Driving from Naples to Chicago and couldn't bear the thought of fast food. Found Big Man's not far off 75. We had fried chicken, fried shrimp, mashed potatoes & gravy, mac & cheese, and coleslaw - homemade and SO good. Husband said the fried chicken (and the gravy) were some of the best he's ever had! Reasonably priced. The waitresses and owners are the nicest people! Highly recommend Big Man's Cafe!! One disappointment: they were out of banana pudding . Had seen a write up about this location recently and while a little out of the way for me but wanted to give it a try. Staff were extraordinarily friendly. Service was prompt but certainly not fast food pace and it showed in the quality and quantity of the breakfast. Ordered the Country Omelet with grits and the small pancake side. BIG omelet and the grits were perfection. Staff was there wanting to top up coffee regularly. At the end the bill came and was very surprised at how much I got for the low price. If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and stop for a great breakfast. read more

I have been trying some new breakfast spots lately and stopped this morning at Big Man's Cafe. What a lovely place. Very clean and nicely decorated. Seems to be family run. I had scrambled eggs, bacon, and dollar cake. Everything was very good. As I was reading some of the reviews earlier, I see I'm going to have to try the biscuits on my next trip. Very friendly service and just a nice vibe throughout. Can't wait to try again for breakfast and lunch. read more

There are not many options for soul food in Ocala I really like this place a few small items need to be cleaned up but overall great place to go great food for a respectable price portions are excellent the fried chicken collard greens the cornbread cakes and the dressing were excellent. The beans were a little salty and the macaroni and cheese was a little dry but still better than most. I'll definitely be back the fried chicken is worth the visit. read more

This is the first of many times I'm planning to frequent this restaurant with friends. The food has interesting choices of comfort soul food and a nice laid back environment. Found this place for breakfast this morning! Amazing! I had the smothered chicken and my boyfriend had the smothered pork chop. The Big Man himself came out and met us, then checked back after we got our food. I really respect a place and the owner when they value their customers. Today March 20,2024 was my first time to Big Man's cafe, I'm not normally on this side of town but now I wish I was. I walked in and was immediately greeted with a smile and great customer service. Both the girls working this morning were wonderful and service was amazing. I got the loaded grits and I have to say the grits tasted just like how my grandmas makes them. You can tell the inside has been updated and has a great friendly ambiance, staff was joking with regulars and everyone was having a good time. My wife and I were in the Ocala area looking for a good place to eat , not one of those chain places. We were referred to BMC's. What a great find for us as we were traveling through the area. We were treated like family by the beautiful souls who owned the place. The "Big Man" came out and thanked everyone individually for coming, the waitress was just the most hospitable person we've met on our trip and "Grandma" came in while we were dining and welcomed everyone with a big "Good Morning Everyone"!! What a great way to start our day. And, the food was AMAZING!!! We had a platter with a ham steak which was cooked just right and an omelet. I joked with Grandma that I wanted to lick the plate because the food was so good and she said joked back that your momma taught you right. Loved this place!! read more

Big Man's is excellent in all respects. The food is genuine home cooked quality and the servings are very good. The atmosphere is relaxed and conducive to good dining. KeKe our server was magnificent - warm, humorous and very knowledgeable. We went at two o'clock and there was no waiting as we were between lunch and dinner.(It was filling up rapidly as we left.) Do not miss this restaurant before it becomes "discovered" by all of northern Florida. A real gem. I had the smothered chicken, (excellent and best I've had out doing for as long as I can remember. Coupled with real mashed potatoes and gravy and collard greens - wow. We were there about three weeks ago and plan on going again tomorrow afternoon. BTW if parking looks tight to some maybe, please note that there's an enormous parking lot in the same mall (a flag lot configuration) and only a very short walk. We went to Big Mans Cafe yesterday evening after trying on Wednesday,but we were too close to their closing time and didn't want to keep them open late They were so friendly and encouraged us to come back They even gave us 4 delicious pieces of Chocolate homemade cake without charging us !! The staff are very friendly and attentive The food was delicious and reasonably priced !! Our party had the chicken wings,Big Mikes Chicken and Fried chicken We also had green beans,lima beans,macaroni& cheese,mashed potatoes, gravy,and southern stuffing The food was delicious ,service was attentive,and restaurant very clean We will definitely be back to try some of the other delicious offerings !! Wish I had taken photos of our food we had at lunch on Sunday, January 22. This was the second time we've been there, once for dinner and then today for lunch. Just picture, smothered fried chicken with candied sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and southern dressing with gravy on top, shrimp and fish with fries, onion rings and a fried hoecake. Both plates were absolutely delicious. Our waitress, Sierra ( hope I spelled it correctly), was awesome as well as she took very good care of us today. This was my first day actually out after knee surgery and I'm so glad ventured to the cafe. They were getting more and more busy by the time we left which is a wonderful thing with a small business. Can't wait to go back and can't wait to have company come visit to take them to the cafe. Breakfast is the only option we have left to try. I'm positive we won't be disappointed when we get to try breakfast. read more

Food was good. The only turn off was that they expected me to pay for the milk for our coffee. They did eventually take off the charge for the milk, but the comment was made that it's too expensive to just give it away for free. That's why we offer creamers with coffee. To that comment, may I say that many of those creamers contain chemical preservatives. One should not be charged for milk that is intended for coffee. That is just plain chinsy. They work so hard to retain their new and existing customers. There are plenty of other places that will serve milk with coffee without any extra charge. If they think I will return, they are sadly mistaken. read more

I got fried chicken--it was cooked well but lack any flavor and Lima beans were like mushy soup (day or two old?). My wife loved her pork chop but green beans were over-seasoned.
