That fact in itself...is gonna have me giving a bit of latitude to the place...as it's great to have a Cajun option in Spfd. Dirty rice is a pretty good dish. Going with the spicy option...sure ensures the dish is flavorful. Their compound butter with the side of bread they serve - it's pretty darn good. And if you want something crazy...that you wouldn't expect to hear: the pork tenderloin sandwich is an excellent rendition of a pork tenderloin sandwich. I was afraid I was making a mistake by ordering the pork tenderloin based on a previous review rather than a Cajun dish. I also ordered a side of red beans and rice. It was the best tenderloin sandwich I think I've ever had. Absolutely huge crispy and delicious. The side dish also came with a big chunk of sausage on top and was excellent as well. The Beef Po Boy was pretty good. Full of flavor with all the Cajun spices required for a Big Easy experience. While there I was amused because they have an add on of The Holy Trinity. So naturally I had to ask the guy at the counter what that was. He looked puzzled so he turned to the boss behind the grill and said 'Yo, what's the Holy Trinity?' Everything in the kitchen stopped and the boss looked at him and said in disbelief 'You BETTER know what the Holy Trinity is!" Then turned to me and said said 'Onions, peppers and celery'. The food was generally southern Missouri imitation attempts of Cajun food. Etoufee was okay. Got medium spice level and that was about right. Other dishes at the table were the club sandwich, the big easy Cajun burger, fried shrimp dinner, and an oyster po'boy. French fries, sweet potatoes, hush puppies, and slaw were good. Homemade potato chips on 2 of the orders were awful. They were way overcooked! Oysters were okay. Have to admit to a great disappointment as we took our daughter and grandkids there to celebrate our daughter's birthday. There basically was no service except orders delivered to the table. I was looking for something new and stumbled upon Big Easy Grill. It was a rainy day so, gumbo and jambalaya sounded like some good comfort food options. I ordered the chicken & sausage gumbo dirty and the jambalaya spicy. Both dishes had good flavor and were enjoyable however, the spicy jambalaya was my favorite and had multiple layers of flavor that popped with every bite. The service was good, the food was great and the decor/ ambiance was lack luster. I give my ratings on those three components giving the most weight of the rating to the food followed by service and lastly the ambiance/decor. Food quality has gone down significantly. I called back to tell them about my opinion of the quality and taste. I asked if they changed ownership or food suppliers, she turned out to be the owner and told me everything "looked fine" and her and her husband have owned it for 18 years and they use the same supplier. Last time we were there I got the etouffe and it had so much tomato paste it was also awful and I left most of that on my plate that time. The lady who was our waitress (who I now know was the owner) didn't follow up that time to see how everything was or WHY I left 90% of my dinner on my plate. I should have taken that as my warning. The tartar sauce looks like it is made with bottom of the barrel mayo with along with a small serving of their awful "homemade marinated DILL pickles", as she emphasized on the phone. They were the same SWEET pickles that they used as their fried pickles (which were also gross). The catfish also tasted very fake. Maybe it was just a different cook tonight, but this food is trash in comparison to what it was about a year ago. Save your money and go elsewhere where your money and opinions are taken a little more seriously. read more

I know it "could've been better" because it used to be better...back when they started out in the tiny corner suite on Sunshine St (now Split Social Kitchen). The owner from N'Awlins was behind the counter crafting some of the best Cajun standard fare in SW MO, bar none. Man, he was a real-deal chef, taking us back to the authentic Cajun cuisine we loved so well. Sometime after their move to their current location, the owner's son took over the kitchen, using daddy's recipes. When we went a few years ago, we realized that the food had suffered. Tonight, we thought we'd give it one more try, but the son's night off left us with a "local cook who uses the owner's recipes". Problem was, we didn't find that out until we received the bill... We started by sharing Fried Green Tomatoes and the Boudin Balls while I had a cup of Seafood Gumbo. While the tomatoes were pretty good, the boudin was tasteless & fell apart while the Remoulade Sauce must have been straight Kraft off a Walmart shelf. Worst was the gumbo. While it was chocked full of meats, the roux base - critical in gumbo - was more like some inedible pudding/paste than the rich, dark liquid characterizing roux. Never have I seen anything like it. I took a second bite with an abundance of hot sauce...no better, plus the hot sauce was "Frank's Hot" instead of Louisiana tabasco...ridiculous. Two of us had Crawfish Etouffee, the other the Shrimp & Grits. Both of us ordered the Etouffee spicy, but it wasn't enhanced spice as much as tasteless heat. We should have gone medium to save our taste buds. The dessert beignets were a surprisingly decent ending to a disappointing meal. Cooking is the art of creation - not directions you follow by rote. It's so saddening to see a bona fide Cajun cookery fall so far to its current state by cutting corners and abandoning what initiated its stellar success. While the ambiance may be more thematic, The Big Easy is hard to swallow, and now no better that it's fellow Springfield Cajun restaurant posers. read more

I lived in New Orleans and this place is the real deal! Our group of five really enjoyed our meal. We had three poboys, crawfish étouffée, and boudin. The boudin is made in-house and served fried with remoulade. The boudin dinner also comes with salad and a side of gumbo - delicious! For dessert we had beignets and bread pudding. The location is also convenient and the atmosphere is so fun! Lots of Louisiana art and decor. We also had great service. The flavors are very rich and super good, u can taste the Cajun seasoning. Their po boys are good too. I usually order the shrimp pi boy. Can't go wrong with it. Bread is freshly made and the shrimp are delicious!! They have many more different entrees on the menu, but these dishes are my favorite! The restaurant is very casual, decorate with Mardi Gras and jewels and alligators which are super fun. Feels like you are in Louisiana with the jazzy music in the background. Crawfish at two Faye: delicious Shrimp Po boy, oyster Po boy: very satisfying! Catfish dinner, gumbo, shrimp and grits: all favorites of mine! They've all the Poboy's, all the sides that you want. They've got dirty rice. They've got great sweet tea or just regular tea as well as the usual sodas and stuff. Very popular amongst all the fuzzy guys with scruffy hair and beards tattoos and piercings but also with all the regular Missourians, down-home folks, people looking for comfort food with some flair and people like me just out for delicious eats! My sister recommended the place to me and she knows Springfield like the back of her hand as she's living her life. It's a little strip mall, not very big but the staff is great. The service is great. The atmosphere is great inside. The food is excellent at reasonable prices. What more can I say. The location is really quite good to just being off of sunshine. I moved here recently and have been here a couple of times with other people.This time, since I came by myself. I assumed that, like most restaurants I've been to all over the world, the bar had open seating, so I seated myself. Apparently, this ticked off the girl at the bar. When she realized I hadn't been "officially" seated, she made a point of acting annoyed and disinterested in serving me. Although I was able to get a glass of wine and a menu, I was not offered water, bread or anything else during my wait. I ordered over 52 minutes ago, and have still not received my food, nor have I been asked if I want a refill, water, etc. Okay, precious - I get it - I should have waited to be seated. You've taught me my lesson, but it is costing you a tip - and I'm a VERY generous tipper. Food arrived - 57 minutes after ordering - but - fabulous as always! I visited this restaraunt for the first time on Mardi Gras. We figured it would be a good way to celebrate. I had their catfish fish dinner. The fish was amazing. It was a huge piece of fish fried perfectly with a nice crispy tasty crust. I didn't really care for their coleslaw. It was too wet and soggy for my liking, but to each their own when it comes to coleslaw. I loved the fried okra, and their hushpuppies were delicious. Big Easy does not have the classiest of decorations or the prettiest of paint colors on the wall. But, it's definitely worth a visit. However if you go on your lunch break, like I do, do not expect in and out. Do not expect quick service. I don't think the Big Easy understands the concept of an hour long lunch break. Maybe that's how they do it in New Orleans? I don't know. It will definitely take an entire hour. God forbid you end up behind a big group of people because orders get brought out one or two at a time.  My usual standby is the fried bologna sandwich. It's fried bologna, cheese, mayonnaise, and maybe lettuce and tomato on sourdough bread. It's delicious and what I always get. It never fails me. I also typically will get an order of sweet potato fries, even though they are pretty expensive. I mean, they're only $3, but... It's $3 for obviously somebody's little handful of fries thrown in a basket. This time around, I ordered the crawfish etouffee... And holy moly. It's one of those dishes that you'll find yourself subconsciously moaning after every spoonful. You take a bite, lick the spoon clean, and moan. I'm really not ashamed. You get a huge plate of it filled with big chunks of crawfish in a smooth silky sauce... You can pick it mild, medium, or spicy, and I went with medium for my first time. It's a great balance of flavor and spice. There is an awkward round lump of rice in the middle, which is the traditional way to do it, but I really want to try it over fettuccini. The more carbs the better. Big Easy is good. The ordering process is awkward, since there is always a line, and the menus are stacked up next to the register. Moving the menus by the door would help considerably. read more

This place is not the Quarter but it is a real close substitue. Over the years I have tried everything on the menu. The Po'boys are great the roast beef is amazing! The pork tenderloin is hand breaded fresh just before they cook it definitely not processed frozen out of the back of a truck. They get the olive relish perfect on the Muffeleta I like it better than Central Grocer. They are in a new location and Yelp created a new page so my old review is gone. Like the new location, lots of extra room if you have a larger party. The food quality is the same high standards as it was at the old place. Which can be a challenge moving to a bigger space. They have maintained the feel of the original but just on a bigger scale. If you are looking for authentic Cajun fare this is your place. Friendly staff, clean, high food standards, consistently good food. I will say one of my favorites here is the fried bologna, not for everyone but brings me back to my childhood. The staff is so friendly, the prices are incredibly reasonable and best yet; I have not had anything but excellent experiences in every visit. My husband and I love their catfish, fried green tomoato's and especially their fried shrimp po'boy. Great Cajun food. I had the Jambalaya - they have two styles either Cajun (tomato based) or dirty plus mild - medium or hot. I ordered the hot and added some of their homemade hot sauce - not too hot but if you don't normally eat spicy food it would be challenging. It came with a small section of French bread and butter. They have hot sauce and a dry pepper mixture as well on the table. The people I was with ordered a slaw dog (sausage link with coleslaw) and the other a catfish sandwich.
