We have been coming here since they opened, and we have always had an amazing experience. Well the other day we actually asked for a refund. I usually don't leave reviews without eating the food, but I just couldn't get past everything that went wrong before that. 1. They were out of just about everything "which can be good sometimes." But this was in a bad way. Like they just didn't order anything. The guy who took our order was extremely nice, but he kept his cooking gloves on the whole time he took our order, and handled our money. Then another guy came out of the back in a tank top that was completely stained and looked filthy. In fact the entire place looked dingy and disgusting. The soda was completely out at the machine, and the carpet in front of the machine was so sticky it pulled off my wife's shoe!!! We asked for a refund because we just weren't feeling it, and the guy gave us a refund and was extremely apologetic... I gave them two stars because we didn't eat there otherwise they would have gotten a zero strictly for their lack of cleanliness and lack of supplies. They really need to be on the ball since another soul food place opened not far from them and is way better. read more

This place is amazing. Looks like it was a 7-11 at one point . The inside is pretty basic but the food is amazing. My wife has the catfish and said it was the best she ever had. I had the smothered pork chops, sweet potato, greens and fried cabbage. All of it was amazing. You definitely need to give this place a try. read more

A small, unassuming downtown restaurant with a private parking lot on the corner of S Kimbrough and Cherry. The wait for the food was long (about 30 min), but completely worth it. The fried chicken and sides came out piping hot. Everything was delicious. The green beans have lots of flavor, seasoning, and bacon. The collard greens are a close second, sprinkled with bacon and a decent amount of heat. It has just a smidge of sugar, but I prefer none. And the fried chicken is incredible. Even the white meat was moist, and the crust is perfect, crispy and seasoned. The corn bread is dense like a cake, with just the right amount of sweetness. It is sooooo addicting. Even with the large slice, I wanted more. I was seriously considering ordering some to-go, but didn't see it as a side on the menu. For one person, a 3 piece chicken meal was bit expensive at $16.20, with no drinks or dessert. But I'll go back. This is 100% Amazing, quintessential soul food. It seriously might the best soul food I've ever had. I was not expecting to find a gem like this in the middle of Springfield. Just make sure you have some time to kill before you order. read more

My friend and I recently visited this place for dinner and thought that the food was fairly good. The service was friendly and the ambiance was warm and welcoming. I got the fried catfish platter with Mac n cheese and fries and my friend got the smothered pork chop meal and an appetizer. She really enjoyed her meal and so did I! The catfish was amazingly tasty but I wasn't so impressed with the Mac n cheese which had some kind of garlicky stuff in it nor was I impressed with the fries which were crinkle cut and a little on the soft side but overall I would definitely return for some more fried fish and maybe try some of their fried chicken in the future. read more

So... this place WAS amazing for a while and then I went in one day and the soda machine had broke and no one told us until after we ordered food and drinks and paid for drinks. They did refund our food cause we left without eating but the worst part was the floor and rug was so sticky my shoe literally stuck to the floor and my foot came out of my shoe and I had to pry it off the floor. I will not eat at dirty places. It's sad cause this place had a lot of potential and we have been there many many times. read more

Mimi's Soul Food is a great new restaurant in town. It's been on my list of places to try. Although we showed up pretty late, maybe 7pm or 8pm, the restaurant was still busy with orders. About half of the customers were dining in and half taking orders to go. I decided on the Philly Cheesesteak and was glad I did! Lots of flavorful steak, veggies cooked just right, and gooey melted cheese. A great sandwich for sure. The fries were also good, and came pre-seasoned. Food overall 4/5. Service was good, but a little clunky. I'm sure the young people at the counter are still learning all the ropes. Everybody was nice and helpful, though. Service 4/5 stars. I'm excited to try more things on the menu. Next time I'll be going for the fried chicken and some classic soul food sides. I hope they'll continue to get support from our local community. Mimi's is the real deal family soulfood restaurant. The cornmeal breading was crispy, fish was white and flaky, a little kick to the tender collard greens and a sweet cornbread. Mac & cheese hit the spot. Friendly and helpful staff. No wait staff but they checked on me which was nice. Ambiance was also family friendly, self serve drinks, TVs, plenty of tables, lots of windows Menu was easy to follow. Great location. Mimi's was great! Delicious food, friendly, efficient service, and a laid-back family atmosphere. The fried chicken was so good, and the green beans and collards were scrumptious. I didn't think I could eat that much, but I set my mind to it and accomplished much in the eating department. I was surprised that the cornbread was Northern instead of Southern. The only thing keeping me from giving them five stars was how cold the dining rooms were and how long it took to get our food. But, the latter can mostly be excused by how good it was, and the former doesn't carry too much weight because I was an idiot and left my jacket at home on a cool evening. Have been wanting to try Mimi's for awhile now, and finally did! Was not disappointed in any way! The fried chicken was so crispy, tender and hot- just out of the fryer. It's prepared exactly the way I dream fried chicken should be! Mashed potatoes were chunky with delicious gravy, and the corn bread was a bit sweet plus not dry at all, as most corn bread that I've had usually is. My husband had the brown beans and thought they were very tasty. All good appears to be prepared in house and well worth the trip to try! My friend and I stopped by Mimis yesterday and today because of how good it was. I got the cheese steak sandwich which was $9 and my buddy got the grilled chicken spicy sand which for about $12. I tried Mimi's for the first time yesterday and it was remarkable! I had the catfish with fries and fried cabbage. The fish was moist and flaky and the seasoning was perfect! The french fries were nothing spectacular but they were well cooked and crispy...but the cabbage and the cornbread stole the show! I was a bit worried about ordering fried cabbage as I usually don't care for any but my own, but fear not! It was SPECTACULAR. I would have happily made a meal of cornbread and cabbage (and in the future I just may!). Overall, I give the food 5 stars, the atmosphere a solid 3, the service was good, but the staff were not very outgoing, so a solid 3 and a half. Serving size was great and price was reasonable. The food is definitely the star! I WILL be back and have already been recommending Mimi's to everyone who will listen! read more
