    a basket of chicken nuggies

I never order chicken strips for myself, but that's all the kid wants. So i find myself sampling chicken strips every now and then. These are some of the better chicken strips I've had. Do get them they are fresh crispy and surprisingly moist. It took a while to get them, but like they say... good things come to those who wait. It was a busy weekend at the navy pier, so seating took some planning.

    Hot n spicy chicken sandwich

Their chicken sandwich was the worst one I've ever had. I tried the hot and spicy... it was hot and bland. They just dumped Franks hot sauce on top rather unevenly and called it a day. There were pickle slices and some Mayo. Called jt a day. Don't. Just don't. Just pass this place by.

Fries burnt and then re-heated. Spit out the chicken. Worst thing I've ever ordered in my life.

Absolute trash place. Chicken tenders are like sparse long nuggets with very little meat. Fries were reheated n all stuck together. Trust me, don't eat here. Hoping it'll let me leave a picture I took. So terrible.

The meal is delicious. Wasn't planning on spending $17 for a chicken sandwich and fries with soda but it was delicious, fresh, crispy and spicy! I loved it! The service was subpar. The cashier should have been friendly but maybe she was hungry, overdue for a break or the music was too loud but whatever the case, I, as a customer, just want to order without having to repeat myself not twice but three times and if she was having a hard time hearing me than she should also speak up because I couldn't hear her either and had to ask another worker to check the register for me to see how much I owed. Luckily this sandwich was scrumptious. Would I come back? Yes!

    Seasoned waffle fries and cheese

Let me preface this by saying I didn't even try their chicken lol. I was hanging around Navy Pier and looking for something to snack on. I looked at Big City Chicken's menu and ordered seasoned waffle fries with a side of cheese. So overall, taste is ok for both the fries and cheese but the fries really were just over cooked and crunchy to the point where I felt like I was eating potato chips. Not bad if they were actually chips, but not great for being fries.

Not a bad place to get a snack around the navy pier. The food takes awhile to come out, so be weary if you're trying to find a quick bite to eat before a cruise or something. The chicken sandwich was good, it's quite similar to chick fil a or McDonald's chicken sandwich, but of course more pricey. The fries are really what stood out to me. They were seasoned well and super crispy. I enjoyed the amount of fries they gave as well! Overall not a bad place to get some chicken if you're hanging out at navy pier.

5 Piece Chicken Strips with fries
    Mr. Tender Chicken ..

The strips were a bit short and small but they came with fries which were pretty good. They have a good juicy taste and the batter breading had a good crunchy seasoned taste. They seemed pretty fast, but be mindful when in the summer (which is when i went) as sit down tables are communal and it gets busy around lunch time(s). I'd very much recommend trying this place for tenders as there's also a great deal of things to do as a tourist in that area.

Big City Chicken's Hot & Spicy Chicken Sandwich, smothered in a spice-killing sea of blue cheese mayonnaise
    Jamie M.

Not too shabby, and certainly a tight menu featuring some decent price points for their offerings - especially considering their location in the middle of tourist-rich Navy Pier. Big City's Plain Crispy or Crispy BBQ sandwiches are $5.99. A 2-piece box of original or spicy chicken is $5.49, 3-pieces are $8.49 and an 8-piece comes it at $22.95. (Please note the prices on their current website are several dollars less than those posted at Navy Pier - so plan accordingly). Sadly, their much-ballyhooed "Hot & Spicy Chicken" sandwich, $6.49, falls woefully short on heat and crispness. While the large, unseasoned chicken breast had a slightly salty crust, the only heat and spice comes from the nuclear-colored red hot sauce that was slathered on top. If I had to guess, I would say the sauce was a 80/20 mix of Frank's Red Hot Sauce and plain Tabasco. Unfortunately, it's the massive dollop of blue cheese mayo that completely masks any spice or heat meant to highlight the meat. Hat's off to the crew for their super soft white bun selection - perfectly steamed and hefty enough to sop up some of that extra sauce and mayo. The lone slice of hamburger dill pickle on the bottom of the breast were pretty much an afterthought. Also, adding cheese to any sandwich was not an option - bummer. Plan an additional $3.99 to make any entree a combo, which includes a tray of nicely-fried shoestring fries and a 16-ounce fountain drink. The $4.99 Root Beer float was 16-ounces as well, but was heavy of pop, but super light on ice cream. If you wander off Navy Pier still hungry and you're still jones'ing for a truly spicy chicken sandwich, head to Do-rite Donuts & Chicken shop directly west on 233 E. Erie St. If you ask nice, they'll even put your amazingly flavorful and spicy chicken breast on a perfectly glazed donut.

Three pieces of chicken with fries

I was recently at the SOFA Showing at the Navy Pier and I had read an article regarding this newer restaurant so I thought I'd try it. I have eaten at Frankie's Pizza and Big Bowl Express so I knew Big City Chicken would be just as good. After reviewing the menu, which I found to be very easy to understand. There are several types/sizes of order you can choose from. Matt, General Manager, very personable, had took my order - 3 piece meal with fries. Matt had advised me the order will ready in 10 minutes. Each meal is cooked to order - this eliminates any dried out pieces. Within the time frame, my meal was up. OMG - the chicken was done to perfection with crispy skin and the meat was very juicy - not dried out. I couldn't eat the skin fast enough, it was just so good. The fries were seasoned just right. After eating the three pieces and fries, I was completely full. I would highly recommend this restaurant and looking forward to my next visit.

The result is meat that is naturally less tender and moist. I was going to ding them until I realized this; thus, it's not a criticism, just the reality of the cut. Their menu is incredibly simple! There are some options available (e.g., sandwich as plain, hot, honey, honey-hot). They also have fries, nuggets, and cans of soda. This simplicity means they're able to specialize very well and make deliciousness! I ordered a sandwich, honey-hot, with the standard mayo and pickles. The chicken was hot and crisp with a thin layer of scrumptious crust. The meat was cooked well, especially given the nature of chicken breast. The honey wasn't overdone and gave a pleasant sweetness. The heat reminded me of Tabasco sauce; while respectable, and the acidity helped add a new flavor dimension, the heat was minimal for my palate. It would be nice if Red Light offered an extra-hot option. The pickles and mayo were in perfect amounts, and the bread was a fresh brioche. Bonus points for the sando not falling apart on me, as happens with places that stuff massive, lopsided thighs to look pretty on Instagram. The service was lightning quick! I had the sandwich in hand less than a minute after ordering. Staff were friendly, welcoming, and polite also. The value is great! In a world where everything costs an arm and a leg, $8 for a reasonably sized chicken sandwich is more than reasonable. Finally, there is no indoor seating whatsoever. There are, however, ample standing-room tables around, with one having overhead heaters. Thus, while not necessarily a destination, Red Light Chicken is a phenomenal neighborhood chicken shop!

Coming from Texas, fried chicken has to be on point, no exceptions. Let me just say... this place surprised me in the best way. Our server, Leslie, was fantastic and had great recommendations right from the start. We kicked things off with: * Deviled eggs -- absolutely incredible, especially with that crispy ham on top. I can't say enough good things about them. Order these. * Biscuits -- buttery, flaky perfection. Paired with the butter and jam, they were dangerous. * Hush puppies -- I usually don't even like hush puppies, but these were next-level. Super crispy, not your typical cornbread taste, and the pepper jam took them to another dimension. I was shocked how much I loved them. For mains: * My wife and I split the fried chicken with mashed potatoes. The chicken was solid--juicy and tasty--but I'll be honest, I wanted it a little crispier and more heavily seasoned. Still very good overall. * My mom and goddaughter got the chicken sandwiches, and they were so juicy the juice literally shot out and got all over my daughter's clothes. That's how you know it's real. * My daughter ordered the shrimp and lobster roll on Texas toast. I stole a bite and it straight-up melted in my mouth. The seafood was perfectly seasoned, and the crispy bread was the ideal vehicle. We also did the hot chocolate flight (the alcoholic-infused one ). Every single one was delicious, but the Baileys version? Unreal. Highly recommend. Service was top-tier--Leslie took such good care of us. Heads up: they automatically add 20% gratuity for parties of 6 or more, but our service was so good we happily tipped on top of that. If you're from the South (especially Texas) and you've been struggling to find food in Chicago that actually hits right--this is the spot. Phenomenal experience from start to finish. We'll definitely be back.
