This being my first time in Chicago it was only right that I got my first meal at the fabled Harold's that I've hear about my entire life. The place was pretty dingy and had some questionable people loitering in and outside the business which didn't bother me but I by the looks of it, some people knew better than me than to stick around after getting their orders The nice cashier was getting chastised loudly and aggressively by who I imagine is the manager or owner. Maybe that's a Chicago thing idk? Lol None of that would've truly bothered me if the food was good but I was unimpressed. Chicken and fish didn't have much seasoning to care for, but luckily I had some "mild" sauce to make it more tolerable. It's funny because this is a Chicago staple but since this experience, I've tried Harold's in Atlanta and found it so much better. That's ironic read more

First time trying Harold's and fortunately it'll be my last. I came based on a recommendation as it was my first time visiting Chicago. initial impressions, just going in the establishment, another reviewer described it perfectly as "dingy"... Most of the food was a major letdown. The chicken came out hot, so I'm assuming it was made to order, but both the tenders and wings were overcooked, dry, and pretty flavorless. For what I paid, especially the side portions like the okra were pretty disappointing... Taste wise, it was the best tasting thing I got, but still very skimpy portions... literally maybe a few tablespoons of okra lol. The customer service was even worse. On Sunday morning, August 9, 2026, the gentleman working the register made an already disappointing experience even worse. The large partition at the register made it difficult to hear him especially with all the loitering bystanders coming in and out of the establishment and how loud things were behind the counter in the kitchen. so when he first asked if I wanted a bag, I asked him to repeat himself. I said yes the second time, he handed me my food, and then said "thanks, dumbass." I don't think he realized how loud he said it, trying to say it underneath his breath I guess... I just kept my composure and left since he had already handed me my food. No need to make two fools out of this situation. There was no misunderstanding or mistake in what I heard. I can only assume he thought he could get away with saying it because I had to ask him to repeat himself earlier, I really don't know what his problem was... Either way, if you don't have much patience, you need to get off that register bud, and do something different... Can't have horrendous customer service and subpar food. First visit, first impression, and a very easy decision not to come back. Especially with so many better places to get chicken of all things... I can't see any reason to spend my money here again. read more

I was here to visit so i stopped by this Harold's. The chicken was amazing and the mild sauce put me in the mind of sweet and sour sauce. I called 3 hrs ahead to place an order for 75 wings only and still had to wait when I arrived but the chicken was good so i can't complain. I will go back for sure if i ever visit Chicago again. read more

Today's cook was terrible. There was barely any sauce on the chicken, and it was so dry it was ridiculous. It was a complete waste of money.

2 stars because the food was good...but instead of two pieces of catfish, they gave me one piece in half. I will forgive, just hate to see it. I order from here all the time, usually 4-5 stars for sure though. read more

Clean, good customer service, quick but too quick. Order was taken. Estimated time given for order. Order received as given. Food was fresh, hot and seasoned. One of the best locations I've been to when in the city. read more

I have had 0 problems. This is my location in the west loop. I've been frequenting the joint for 2 years now and they are consistent. The food is always hot ready to eat and the order is usually accurate. The wait time is about the same as any other that I have been to. You can sit down I usually just take it home right around the corner. They have always been friendly but most importantly they aren't shy on the mild sauce. read more

Unfortunately I have to knock several stars off this Harold's. I like the convenience of the app, but the last couple of times the orders have been wrong thus negating any of the app's convenience. I mean who orders Harold's chicken without mild sauce. I would expect someone would at least question such an order. Looks like I'm going to have to start going to a different shack despite it being out of the way. I now regret providing a tip. Food is too expensive these days to put up with incorrect orders. read more

Don't order from this place, I wouldn't feed the food to a dog, I ordered 1/4 white and 2 wings all with mild sauce. There was hardly no sauce on the food and the chicken was super dry. What a waste of money. They told me to get a refund I had to contact Uber Eats but they are the ones that used uber. Scammers. read more

Im not sure what else to say that hasn't been already said before about Harold's. I called my order in and was surprised they actually answered. Its a hit or miss on getting any location to answer their phone. The person that took my phone order was very polite and my order was ready when I arrived to pick it up. I ordered my usual 8 piece mixed chicken bucket with mild sauce and a side of large fries with mild sauce. The chicken was fried perfectly and they didn't skimp on the mild sauce on either the fries or the chicken. The chicken was nice and crispy and perfectly seasoned. Will definitely be coming back to this location. read more

Why did it take them an hour to tell me that they did not have what I already ordered and paid for thru Uber Eats? Why did they send me a message saying mg order was ready when they did not have what I asked for? Why does a chicken place not have legs and thighs, bit allow you to order them? Why do the two young women working at the counter have no customer service scruples whatsoever? Why did I even try? Every Harold's has bad service like this. Waste of time. Waste of money. read more

So, Harold's came highly recommended and the fried chicken was good and the wings were excellent. The mild sauce was very mild and spicy was mid range. Everything came out hot. The hush puppies were very good. I thought this was more fast food but it was not. So if you do not order in, be prepared to wait. The ordering kiosk didn't work and the person who took our order could have been friendlier. If I had ordered ahead and picked up, definitely would have been four stars. Food great. The ABSOLUTE WORST customer service I've received in my life. I ordered through google / delivery.Com. I placed my order around 11:10am. And was given an order ready range of 11:26 - 11:45. They were to open at 11. I got to the location around 11:20 and the doors were locked. A very nice gentleman was outside and told me we were waiting for a cashier. The doors were locked and I could Not enter. I tried calling back around 11:35 and no one answered the phone. I then called back around 12pm. A man answered the phone and rudely asked me "what are you trying to do" when I asked about my order. That shocked me. And I told Him I'm trying to receive the food I came for. Once at the location the cashier in a black pillars hat lectured me like I was a 2 year old child when I asked for an extra sauce due to my inconvenience of a 1.5 hour wait. Prior to going back up to the location I called google and they confirmed that the restaurant did not confirm my order until 12:04 BUT they did confirm it. The man ended up raising his voice at me and was utterly disrespectful. I will NEVER be back to this location, and reduce my support of the business overall. It's not appropriate for an establishment to disrespect customers. Especially those with a $50 order when the average order is under $20. I'll take my business elsewhere read more

I wasn't going to rate this place because I wasn't expecting too much when I ordered through UberEats. Even after my driver made another stop the food got to me and was amazing, seasoned and crispy. If you've never tried mild sauce it kinda tastes like tangy ketchup. I know everything is a lot cheaper here than at home (Maryland) but I'm impressed with the value here read more

The phone number was busy when I tried calling it in. This has happened to me twice now. The food is decent but this location nickle and dimes you for every little thing. They charged me $1 for a cup of mild sauce when you say you want it on the side. However, getting an order with mild sauce on the chicken is included in the price. When asked about the fee, the cashier said "you're paying for the cup." Crazy how they are up charging on a cup that costs cents per unit at Restaurant Depot Service is horrible. They won't be around long if they keep up those antics. The south loop location is much better anyway. read more

I ordered this from Grub Hub! I do understand that my food will not be super hot when it's delivered. However, my chicken was old and dry. Solid chicken, great prices. They have an extensive menu with things like Mac n cheese bites and chicken all sorts of ways. Two piece dinner (dark meat thigh & leg) was less than $7 with fries and bread. A little bit of a shady location, but not by much. Better option than fast food after a late night of drinking, especially as they are open until 5am on the weekends. The lady at the register was also very kind, as my phone was dying and at 1% charge... she charged it behind the counter while we ate. Super nice service, liked the food! read more

Recently was in Chicago for the July 4th weekend. Got the Groupon for this location prior to the trip. I wasn't expecting too much. But I was pleasantly surprised. The food was hands down on of the best fried chicken I've had in a long time. I definitely recommend the dark meat with hot sauce + bbq sauce. The food took a bit to make, but was worth the wait because of how fresh the thighs a s drumsticks were. Moist chicken with crispy skin and super hot bone indicate freshly fried chicken. Enjoyed every bite! Guy at the register was welcoming and cool read more

Hard to go wrong with Harold's! Rarely have I ever had a bad experience here. The chicken is freshly cooked & delicious!

This location was absolutely terrible. The cashier woman was very rude and seemed disorganized. She and another coworker got into an argument when we had first arrived too. When I had showed her my order confirmation, she said the chicken was still being made but when I got home to eat, it was very clearly old and dry. The environment is just very unwelcoming overall. I'm told locations can vary a lot so I really hope that's true. read more

Pulled up to the location at 11:30 am, 2 hours after the location is scheduled to open only to find the door locked and staff inside. The staff looked directly at me and acted as if I wasn't there. They then preceded to take the phone off the hook assuming they knew I would call immediately while standing there. Called 3x only to receive a busy signal. Stood outside for 10minutes. Staff looked twice to see if I was still there. No communication at all, just stares. Two other customers pulled up and still nothing. So unprofessional. I understand things happen but not communicating with your customers is utterly distasteful!!! FYI, even here on the Yelp app it says open..... read more

My husband and I ordered from here and went home without checking our food first which was a BIG MISTAKE! The food was recooked and served to us and we were missing a few pieces of chicken and fish. When I called the restaurant the manager answered with a nasty attitude and I was placed on hold and hung up on twice by the manager! We spent $40 for these two meals and I highly regret it. Finally got around to trying this Chicago institution and I'm glad I did. The famous mild sauce poured over the chicken was pretty delicious. The sauce is tangy and a little sweet. Got a 6 wing dinner and a 1/2 dark chicken dinner to split. Both the wings and the dark chicken thighs and drumsticks were super moist with a well seasoned crunch. Fries were a little mushy but the bread that it came with was surprisingly addicting. read more

I do love a good Harolds location. The wings are always on point and the gizzards (if you like them) are always tender and amazing. You can't go wrong with Harold's as they always aim to please with freshness. I like em' and that's all that matters. Some may say it's not a good flavor but I beg you differ as the taste, definitely rivals southern wing stops and this is something I look forward to when it comes to chicken wings. This location had a nice setup and the dining area was very well stationed away from the counter and enough room to breathe. It may be a little jarring to see the "plastic divider" near the counter but I get it, either they are being careful since COVID or they are using this as a protective barrier for thieves, not sure. But regardless it doesn't deter from the service. They are very friendly here so make sure you come in with a smile and they will return it also with a smile. THe prices are average to Harold's around Chicago so I am glad they didn't spike it up since this is in the area its in. Either way, I am certain you will love the taste and the freshness of what Harold's is known for. read more
