I decided to go to this Harolds location because people were saying it's the best one hands down yada yada... During this Covid-19 pandemic lines not too bad I make it to the counter to place my order find out cash only I'm like okkkk... I left and went to my bank for cash come back order 4 wings hot/ mild sauce with black pepper...not fried hard or anything like most peeople. The chicken was fried so hard I had to be careful because of my teeth. The chicken was so burnt the meat was hard and stringy not good not to mention the reason the sauce is different is because it's bbq sauce not mild sauce and only a little on top of chicken. One guys food was given to the wrong person and then he had to wait even longer for them to mess up his order. Our de facto Harold's since the 91st & Ashland location closed. Pros - Very good, fresh food, fast service and great specials every day. Cons - "Neighborhood" location in every sense of the word. The owners and workers can't help that but patrons should be on guard. It is possible to go there and have the lobby absolutely f-u-l-l of drug addicts and alcoholics. They are acting up, bothering people....it's sad and frustrating. I took my wife in with me once and I was flat out embarrassed. Although the interior and the exterior is rough, as well as the neighborhood being kind of rough, the chicken is delicious and is probably one of the best fried chickens in my life. Harold's on 87th and Sangamon has the best chicken on the south side of Chicago. No, it's not a fancy restaurant with tables, chairs, waitresses, etc... it's a hole in the wall where you go to get some of the most flavorful chicken in the city! The only thing I dislike about Harold's is the small portion of coleslaw that they put in the tray that is buried under mounds of chicken french fries mild sauce and at least one slice of bread. The workers haven't been trained in customer service a day in their lives, and the lobby is packed with people during a pandemic. Don't bother calling in, you'll be waiting 10-15 minutes anyway. Ordered giblet. It is cooked to order. However mine was burnt and inedible! Will give a zero Stars if I could. I find this is common at Harold's Chicken Shack. I've checked many out with poor results. If someone knows of a Harold's Chicken Shack that can still cook livers and gizzards please let me know.
