Food is great no issues there but it is a crap shoot on if they will have the majority of the items on their menu. We have been a total of ten times, there was only ONE visit where everything we wanted they had available. Today is 07/26/26, we arrived at 2:17 pm and there were at least 7/8 items already sold out. How does that happen and the business opens at 11 and closes at 9. I truly understand how expensive food is and no restaurant wants food waste but running out of a significant amount of items on your menu with seven hours until closing is unacceptable. Also, the website needs to be worked on. The site does not show the menu in total. Additionally, if you call the restaurant they never answer the phone. Please note, we will travel for good food. Ive been wanting to try this place for years. I went in about 11:15 am today and it was clean and nice inside. It pretty much went downhill from there. No noticeable smell of bbq. Average sized menu. Odd structure for a BBQ place when you walk in. No greeting and you order in the back of the counter after standing there for 5 minutes waiting to be greeted by any of the 5 people behind the counter. Eventually I ordered a brisket sandwich, 1/2 lb rib tips, Mac n cheese, coleslaw, potato salad, banana pudding, and a Big Red pop. Right off the bat no coleslaw, no potato salad, no banana pudding. 15 minutes after open. From there I place the order - Brisket sandwich - 1/2 lb tips - Mac n cheese - Red Pop. $35.43. 11:16a.m. I'm order #5. I see order #9 leave, order #11 & 12. 36 minutes later I get my food. They cut the brisket with the grain making it stringy and chewy. Also very dry. The tips were not warm. Mac and Cheese was great, and was the best part of the meal. They also had a decent vinegar sauce. Tons of potential, but this trip was beyond disappointing. Paid Franklin BBQ prices and received Arbys quality meat. If they ran the counter cafeteria style and had you pay at the end it would trim the wait time down significantly. That and have the other 50% of the menu available. I dont think I'd return. My mother and I were regular customers at Sanders. We continue to visit because your barbecue is excellent and has always been consistently high quality. In fact, our experiences have always been outstanding. We don't live in the commoand I frequently bring my mother, who is 80 years old, to your restaurant because she loves your catfish and ribs. Those are her favorite menu items. On this particular occasion, however, I was not with her. She visited your restaurant a couple of months ago. After placing her initial order, she also returned to order sides of potato salad and coleslaw. The sides were perfectly fine, but unfortunately, the ribs she received were not. The portion was very small , certainly not close to a half-pound and the three to four ribs she was given were extremely hard and dry. While they were not burned, they appeared to be old and should not have been served. In our opinion, they should have been discarded rather than given to a customer. Because my mother is an elderly woman, she did not think to take a picture of the food. She did attempt to call the restaurant, but each time she called, the phone line was busy. Since we live quite a distance away and she had driven herself that day, she ultimately decided to accept the loss and move on. Given that we have been loyal customers and this experience was so unusual compared to the quality we normally receive, I reached out via email because I wanted to reach out and ask what can be done to make that situation right! No one has returned my email!!!! Why ignore a customers email!? No one rectifies mistakes! No one answers the phone! It's sad that no one is available to help via email nor phone. Food was pretty good. Not sure I agree with NY times ranking amongst best restaurants in the country but I was satisfied. Wanted to try the cornbread but during my mid afternoon visit they were sold out. Wings weren't overly sweet & they definitely were bigger than party wings. Corn had a smoky & slightly spicy element to it which separates it from thousands of places in terms of corn. I'd return if in the area. I heard quite a bit hype around this spot so I had to come check it out. This is one of the only bbq places in the area that was serving smoked oxtails. I'm used to places in Chicago having the typical rib tips, links and ribs. The place was hopping on the afternoon we went. Luckily this place is deceptively big there is seating in the front room, middle patio and back party room. The line moves pretty quickly. You'll take a number with you to your table and they'll deliver the food right to you. Despite being busy the staff was all very friendly and patient. We ordered the oxtail, ribs, sausage, and brisket. We ordered the elote, greens, beans and Mac and cheese. We really like the ribs and sausage. The oxtails were a little greasy like there wasn't enough fat trimmed off before they were smoked. It also had the taste of the smoker like it should have been cleaned. The brisket was decent a little tough though. It may have been sitting in the warmer too long. The greens were a little salty and the beans were more reminiscent of chili beans than bbq baked beans. Overall it was decent, but I'm not sure it lived up to the hype given. I would come back to try the burger though. read more

Stopped by Sanders to grab lunch after craving some rib tips. I preordered for take out and my order was ready by the time I arrived. The lady working the front was friendly and offered to grab extra sauces for me at the station before leaving with the food. When I got home, majority of the food was still hot. I ordered a small rib tips w/fries, 1/2lb of brisket, pulled pork sandwich, and brisket sandwich. The portion size of the rib tips was more than I expected but appreciated. They weren't the meatiest pieces I've ever had but with there being so much I was satisfied. I asked for lean cuts of brisket which seemed to be honored. Ordered online with a 30 minute pick up time, food was ready when I arrived. Decided on the platter that feed 2-4 and the large tips. The tips were good and juicy but I didn't care for the sauce on them. The brisket was flavorful with a nice mix of fat and meat, the sausage was great, ribs were tender and smoked well, the pull pork lacked any type of flavor. So my son is a huge fan of Sanders and I was craving a cheeseburger made freshly not pre-formed from a package. Accordingly I ordered a Smoked Cheeseburger without their house sauce and with fries, the Texas Trinity 1/3lb brisket 1/ 2lb rib 1 sausage, and my son a Smoked Cheeseburger with Elote. Given how outstanding the service was at the start talking to a pit-master over the glass while in line and a really pleasant young lady at the register, the praise stops there. Burger came without the fries and it took 15 minutes to get the staff to bring me French fries!!!! The burger tasted like it was seasoned with cayenne pepper and was way over smoked to the point of being completely dried out. The elote was disgusting -- it was so salty it was not edible. The Texas Trinity saved the meal although I agree with Rozalynn B's comment about the sausage. Like all other establishments, they start off well but quickly decline. The rib tips are smaller and tougher, and they consistently run out of items, often posting a list of what's unavailable. Drove about an hour just to check it out. Here's my take: It's ok, not going to drive an hour for it, but if I was near here I'd partake again! We came in on a Sat afternoon at 1pm. The line was already out of the door. I wasnt aware of how the line forms, but it did move quickly. Once you're reached in line you order quickly! You find seating or wait on your carryout. The place is small, and it was PACKED! But we got seated and they brought our dine in food out to us on trays. Everything was fresh and hot. We ordered the Trinity platter, it includes ribs, brisket, & a sausage link. We ordered the smoked oxtails and the beef short rib. Various sides which were priced ala carte. Greens, mac, cornbread, baked beans. How'd it taste? Oxtails, which I love, weren't great! Good idea, but not executed properly. Beef short rib was good! Not $42 good tho, for 1 bone. Mine was missing any fat and were dry. However, they do give a lot of them and the flavor and presentation was great! The cornbread and corn were very good also. I hated there were only a few drink options and no sweet tea. I love tea with my bbq. Now the service was split. There was a really nice young man that helped at the tables and brought the food out. I went here for pickup, and I got the rib tips with fries. Those ribs were the most tender rib tips I've had in my life! They were super tender. The fries were good as well. They give you a nice amount of food in a small rib tip. I was quite surprised. The sauce was good, but it wasn't the best I've had. I prefer the sauce at places like pitstop. The restaurant is a nice size, and you can smell the smoke a block away. Good size high top tables, and the employees were all extremely nice and attentive. I got the beef short rib, rib tips, sweet honey cornbread, baked beans, fries, and Mac n cheese. Large rib tips were really not that many for the price; however taste wise they were a 10- nicely sauced and very tender, not a lot of fat. Delicious. Short rib- 50 bucks for one rib is pricey. The taste - fantastic!! Bark was perfectly seasoned, but a little mushy for me, I like a more chewy crispy bark. Meat was soooo tender and had a great smoke ring. You do not need any sauce on this rib! Baked beans were way too sweet and thick- weird flavor. Mac n cheese was sublime- kind of a sharp cheddar tang, which offset the sweetness of the sauce on the ribs (not so much for the baked beans unfortunately). Honey cornbread is as a huge slab- for six bucks, it should have been. Soft and rich, a little piece goes a long way! Fries were fine, nothing special. We ended up trying the rib tips with fries, beef brisket, and smoked sausage. The rib tips were tender but just okay overall. The smoked sausage had a nice flavor, though it wasn't the hot link style I was hoping for. The brisket was probably the highlight -- tender, juicy, and flavorful. Chicago is a tough city to compete in when it comes to BBQ, so for me Sanders was just okay. Our primary issue was that everything was just too sweet. We love barbecue but prefer ours to have a better bite to it. I didn't see an option to select a spicer sauce at any point. My husband and I were excited to have a barbecue restaurant so close to home, but we have noticed a change in the last several weeks. My friend and I went to a play on the southside and asked for recommendations for good food for dinner. This place was about 20 minutes from where we were, in Beverly, so we went. It was packed! There was a long line but it moved quickly. I ordered a platter with ribs, brisket and a sausage, along with sides of Mac & cheese and greens, to have plenty to take home to my husband. My friend ordered pulled pork and Cole slaw and we shared. Everything was excellent! Definitely worth the hour drive from our home to get here. The Mac & cheese was the most notable, rich and creamy and possibly the best I've ever had. Loved the brisket too, with both their sweet and spicy sauces. We ate there and took our leftovers home. I did a take out order of various foods to get a taste of a bit of everything. The sides ordered were greens that were cooked well but a bit salty. The Mac & cheese was cheesy but had an after taste I could not place my finger on. The rib tips were good. I ordered a small and they came with fries. They were tender and it was a good portion size. The brisket was flavorful but needed to be slightly juicier. The oxtail was also flavorful, but a bit chewy & greasy. Note the oxtails come at $34lb and for this I received 2 large ones. The hot link was not hot or grainy enough and lended itself more to a polish sausage. They have various Bbq sauce options which contain a lot of vinegar and could be thicker for my taste. I do think this place is a bit expensive, which is one of the main reasons I gave it 3 stars. I would go back for the customer service and tips. read more

We're told that we should put our order in by 2 to ensure we get the stuff we want! They're sold out of all the platters, potato salad and few other things !! I bookmarked this location for a summer visit. Well, I found myself here sooner than anticipated and happy with the experience. Need to know: 1. There's gonna be a line. 2. There are occasions where it's credit or debit only for payment. 3. Know what you want before you get to the register. 4. Seating is at a premium and scout out a table early if dining in. 5. When they run out of an item, that's it....no matter how nicely you ask. The staff were warm and welcoming and I appreciate that they would yell out what was out of stock, and to be ready when you get to the register. On my visit, they weren't accepting cash for payments. Cool heads prevail as you'll find yourself in close proximity to others in line, while waiting for pick up and when dining. Weather permitting, there is an outdoor patio for diners if that's your thing. Parking is along a busy street in a residential area. Pay attention to the signs to avoid being ticketed. There may be a line when you arrive but it moved at a respectable pace when we visited. My husband secured a table while I was in line ordering. Our order came out 20 minutes after we ordered and it didn't disappoint. Follow them on social media to see what specials they will be running and other information. An oxtail gumbo and smoked oxtails were the special du jour on March 22, 2025. The cashier was awesome and the manager was fully employed assisting with orders. The other staff were supportive and personable when interacting with them. I opted for the peach tea smoked wings (8). It comes with a side although you wouldn't know that from the menu, so my selection was collard greens. I added sweet potato cornbread and it was very sweet as it has a brown sugar crumble. The portion was plenty for me. I really enjoyed the sauce on the wings and it made for an excellent dipping sauce for the fries I stole from the spouse. You can order online and pick up your to go order if you are not up to waiting. Ordering in person can be a little hectic and you should allow plenty of time. During my visit, I chatted with some really chill people and a woman who was 93 years old and didn't fuss about the wait and volume of people. This is a 3.5 star review, the food was pretty decent probably the best BBQ on the southside to be honest that doesn't mean it's a 5 star place not to mention I did pick up and waited in line for 20-25 min only to get to the front and they tell me pick-up is outside and around the corner towards the alley! I looked for signs in the restaurant for pick up orders looked at my email for pick-up instructions and nothing.
