Great food and good variety! I recommend the breakfast bar because of the value. Your average meal will cost about $8-$10, so I found it better to just order the breakfast buffet because it has waffles, French toast, pancakes, grits, breakfast potatoes, scrambled eggs, biscuits, warm apples (to put over your waffles), warm syrup, a full fruit bar, a decent salad bar and a couple other things. I left full and satisfied all for 11 bucks and a tip. Plus the service was great! Will be back next time I'm in Detroit read more

Big Boy Restaurant - American Near Me - Romulus, Michigan

See all

Stayed at the Sheraton (nearby) and was hungry for a meal. I'm from the west coast and not familiar with the big boy chain restaurants. Pro's -Big seating area -Cheap Food -Good selection of American food with good desserts and a all you can eat salad/soup bar Con -Service could of been better I enjoyed my visit. I got the Big Boy burger with french fries. Good burger not great but decent. I also ordered a Strawberry milkshake. It was delicious, not to thick but no too milky, perfect amount. I also got a Strawberry waffle too. It was also good. Food came in a timely manner about 12-18 minutes after we ordered. I also came in a big group (6 guys) and they accommodated us quite nicely, also let all of us do separate checks which is nice. Waitress attended us good but wasn't really friendly. You pay your check in the front. But overall had a good experience and enjoyed some good food. read more

I love big boy, but this is probably my least favorite location. The service is always slow. Takes forever for refills, had to wait for boxes and the bill, etc. the food and salad bar were good though. read more

Walked in and got a hit of the 70s. Not like it can expect more from a Big Boy, but wow. There was nothing in the show case, and the Christmas decorations were forced down my throat. The Hostess seemed like we were a burden. As we sat down, she called me lazy for not helping her pass the menus out. (like it's even my job to serve myself) The waitress was super nice, which was the redeeming factor from getting a one star. Overall, this big boy way a joke. read more

Staff was friendly and engaging. We didn't have to wait too long to be seated, get drinks, or get our food. My colleague ordered onion rings with his food but when it was brought out with French fries, they gave us the onion rings for free. The burgers were well seasoned and tasty. I had the Swiss miss...I was thrown off by it having "tartar sauce" but it turned out to just be mayo and I had the brioche instead of rye bun. I had absolutely no complaints. $20 for the both of us. I'd def return if I stay near the airport again. read more

Not very much options around the airport in the early morning so decided to give Big Boy a shot because it had an Old School flare about it, plus the large "Big Boy" character outside was appealing. We also wanted to try something we wouldn't frequent very often coming from the PNW. I can say we probably will not be going back. The food came out mildly warm. You could tell that they had been sitting on the warmer for a while. The bread was wrong and came out soggy. The waffles was burned and so bad there was no way I could finish it. How do you burn waffles? Server was not very helpful either. When she came by the table to ask how everything was I let her know I was unhappy she never apologized of offered to put in a new order. Will not be back. read more

KIM the waitress is a great asset to this restaurant. After traveling all day, we stopped in late Sat night. Her knowledge of the menu items, patience, and recommendations provided a great customer experience for my family and me. If I owned a local fine dining establishment, I would be working very hard to hire Kim away to come work for me instead. Great Job! read more

The bread on my patty melt was soggy as if it had been dunked in a bucket of water. There were enough onions on there for a pot of onion soup. The fries were way undercooked and soggy as well. As a bonus, they put three wet pickles on top of my sandwich. The pickle juice combined with the already wey/soggy bun made it almost impossible to eat. I tried, but I'm not a big fan of eating soggy/wet food. Overall very disappointed. Big Boy sure isn't what it used to be just a few years ago. I'm not even sure that the varmints that go through the dumpster will enjoy this food. If I wanted the food prepared by a toddler, I would have gone to McDonald's right across the street. read more

Always loved this place went today and wasn't to happy. My husband ordered a slim Jim and there was one slice of ham! One slice of ham! And the salad bar has gone to crap in my opinion. They use to have many options. read more

The big boy in Garden City on Ford Rd absolutely disgusting. I ordered a slice of pie it looked like it had been dropped on the floor and put in a container. read more

Big Boy Restaurant - American Near Me - Romulus, Michigan

Our service was pleasant. Sherrie, our server was a sweetheart. She refilled our drinks and fulfilled every request we had of her. Her demeanor was polite and she made my family feel welcomed in the establishment. The company is lucky to have an employee like her. However, I cannot get over seeing another server, named Kim dip her fingers in a desert, lick her fingers then proceed to serve the desert to another paying customer. The set up of the restaurant made it so that we could see what was going on in the back. It's very concerning that an employee thought this behavior was acceptable, and continued to serve the desert to the customer. I could only imagine if that was myself or one of my family members. read more

Okay - it's a Big Boy..... but it's a darn good Big Boy. Best service I have enjoyed (and I did indeed enjoyed it) in a long time. Great wait staff. Food may be a heart attack on a plate but it was a hot, plentiful and tasty one. Got the pot roast platter and I thought grandma had been resurrected in their kitchen. Good ole time delicious. Well done Bob! read more

This is one old eatery. Gets credit for being fairly clean. I ordered Big Boy's version of four-cheese mac and cheese that appeared and tasted like Velveeta topped with a bit of crumbled bacon. It was lukewarm so I asked the waitress to please get it microwaved. She kindly did and stood by to make sure it was hot enough, noting the only way to know for sure would be if she put her finger in it and she didn't want to do that. Yikes, did I really need to hear that? I've had much better mac and cheese out of a box or in an inexpensive frozen meal in the up to $1 price range. It cost abot $8.95 and was not worth it. It gets one star because apparently a star is needed to post. read more

Great service by Tammy! Breakfast bar was great, awesome fried chicken. Grease way to grease up your gut after a rough night!

I have a bi-racial daughter we are a mixed couple service was horrible. African American waitresses was very rude to all of us even my 3 yr old said hi to her no response. Wait staff by kitchen were talking about us because we were a mixed couple. The food was horrible I will never go back. Not happy at all racism is still here.. :( read more

My husband and I try to go to Big Boy when we travel to Michigan to visit family. This was our first time at this location. (Visited Aug/2013) It was just down the street from our hotel saving us time, which is always nice. Compared to other Big Boy locations, this one was just OK. The staff was friendly, we were seated in a comfortable area. The table and floor was messy not a big deal to us), but the food was disappointing. This place was just lower quality than the other Big Boys we're familiar with. There was just too much grease and oil in the food. Great staff, just need better cooks. read more

Great prices and great food. When I went to pay the bill I waited at the register for a good while staring at 4 of the employees chit chatting and showing each other pictures on their phones. I had to walk over to them and tell 'Em I'd leave if someone didn't ring me up. read more

Nice people, but my food was horrible. Everyone else at the table said theirs was just OK... Waited for a while, but then when the food showed up, you could tell the bacon was precooked. The biscuits were cold, the sausage was cooked to the point of dry. Just not good. read more

Such an amazing crew. Always so friendly, I love being greeted everyday with big smiles! Very amazing and fresh food also!!! 10/10

Not the Big Boy restaurant of my youth. No soul. I had the Brawny Lad, a BB classic. Served on a mushy rye bun rather than the grilled rye of yesteryear. Ick. Indifferent service. Quite disappointed. read more

Great spaghetti my favorite the best spot in town.I recommend this location very clean great service great managers great food

So my company puts me up in a hotel that's close to this Big Boy restaurant every time I'm in town for business. I walk down there pretty much every day for lunch when I'm staying at the hotel. I enjoy going there because, the people are great, the service is friendly and the food is always good. They have an excellent salad bar with 5 different homemade soups every day! You can get an all-you-can-eat soup and salad bar for around $7. Also, they have a mini banana split for a $1.50! And let me just say, the mini banana split if anything but mini! I have never ordered the full size but I can only imagine! The waitresses always remember exactly what I order and bring me my diet coke before even coming to say hello. I love the personalized service, and that they always remember where I work and what I do, and they always remember my order. It makes me feel like a VIP! The waitresses are your run-of-the-mill down home girls, working at the diner. This is a great place to view the locals. On a Sunday afternoon, you can always get the local scoop from the old men who are always sitting around talking about what's on the front page of the paper. the whole place just has that good homey feel to it! don't expect anything fancy, and you won't be disappointed! read more

We have 2 Big Boys near us that we have visited quite often. It has been my young daughter's favorite restaurant. Now, about a month ago Big Boy came out with a new menu removing my wife's favorite burger (brawney lad), and raised the price of my favorite item (spaghetti) from $9 to $13.95. I would much rather go to Olive Garden and get all I can eat salad, breadsticks with my plate of spaghetti for just $10. So I don't think we will be visiting Big Boy as often as we used to. read more

There was prolly about 7 people in the restaurant and it took pretty much 45 minutes to get some grub eh. Trash and it coming back.

I was very satisfied with this place. Service went well. I was served coffee by a couple different waitresses who were all polite. My coffee never got under half a cup! These are real people and I'm glad I came here despite previous reviews. I got the Southern Omelette and everything tasted good. I'm pleased! read more

Nobody in the store at 6:50 am yet a simple waffle takes 20 minutes to prepare. Staff is more concerned with thier personal issues. Thank goodness I didn't have a flight to catch. read more

Came here because it was close to our hotel. It was 11:30 in the morning and there were just two of us. Wait staff was cordial but not friendly. We both ordered breakfast but it took 45 minutes to get our food. The atmosphere is sort of old diner-ish and the food was decent at best. Manager was friendly and apologetic for our wait, but even a few small changes could have made our visit a lot better. Good spot in a pinch, but wouldn't recommend to my friends. read more

Terrible strawberry pie. Every year for my birthday I request a strawberry pie. This year was no different. My husband went to the Merriman location Sunday to buy a pie. He waited for one to be made and was even given the whip cream to go with it. That evening we cut into the pie and every berry in it was moldy and rotten. No exaggeration. Not wanting to ruin the family gathering, we brushed it aside and had something else for dessert. This however is just not acceptable. Never again will we go there for another pie. A pie the feature and you expect to be delicious. A pie my husband waited to be made fresh he thought. We did not return to the restaurant as it is out of our way but, just wanted others to know how gross and possibly sickening this pie was. read more

We came in and ordered a couple of burgers. They were good, and the strawberry-cheesecake shake was great. The server was friendly, but there was a lot of yelling by the staff that was uncomfortable. I might come back if I was in town again. read more

I came here once for breakfast and had very dirty silverware. I figured it was a freak thing. I came for dinner tonight and guess what more dirty silverware. This will certainly be the last visit. Food was good and service was good but are they cleaning their dishes??? read more

Came here because they have a salad bar. I ordered their signature burger, with the soup and salad bar. First off, I was greeted and seated in SECONDS. Server magically appeared also in seconds brought my drink and took my order. Before I could take a bite of my salad I had crafted, my burger was DONE! What a great experience! Salad bar was clean, stocked... 3 choices of soup! Service was EXCELLENT! I will be back! read more

I use to like this place, but it has gone down hill. The floors dirty. Very few items on the menu are healthy unless you want salad. Everything but the meatloaf is fried, or comes with fries. The breakfast items are okay. The salad/soup bar is okay too, but options are limited. The couple near me got a burger and it had so much mustard on it, it fell apart on her plate. I could see the mustard from my table. If you want good ole' home cookin' go to Bob Evans across the street. read more

Good food and fast friendly service. My club sandwich was good. It could have used a little more meat.

I remember when this place was built and it was bustling with people. Unfortunately, it is now dated and dirty with very marginal service. The manager was to busy with a phone call to take my money when I checked out. Next time I'm in the area, I will go somewhere else. read more

Everything you expect from big boy. Great burgers and the salad bar was fresh and well stocked. Waitress was very attentive and took care of our group. It's nice to have a place like this where you can go to get a good meal with friendly staff. read more

Nice place and nice staff. Food is good and the punk lemonade is great. Been here since noon waiting for the car to be repaired and they have not thrown us out. read more

Nothing really great here. The Big Boy combo was mediocre and flavorless. Don't waste your time or money at this restaurant.

This has to be one of the worst Big Boys around. Went for lunch today. Was not busy at all. There was hardly anything on the salad bar, except lettuce and a few pasta salads. All the soups were empty and no one bothered to fill anything up again. The waitess was nice and the rest of the food was served fast. The person working the cash register just sat back in the little room and didn't look up so finally we had to say "hello" so we could out of there and back to work. read more

We use to frequent this restaurant on a weekly basis, but overtime the restaurant has gone downhill. I'm pretty sure this was our last visit. We were seated right away, and our drink order taken. PART of the drink was served up right away. It was a full 15 minutes before the rest of the drink order was delivered. About the time we had decided to leave and go to the Bob Evans across the street, someone came and took our order. At that point we had already been there for almost 30 minutes. When the food was delivered, it came out in 2 waves.....10 minutes apart. So part of our group was almost finished eating before the rest were served. NEVER again. read more
