Conveniently at the Holiday Inn across from our hotel, we popped here for eats after watching the Lions choke a lead against the Dolphins. No choking was done here (thank god) but there were some things that jumped out to us. First is the setup, it looked like a place trying to be fancy when you walk in only to realize they give up on that when you get to the tables. Plain white walls with no seats at the high top tables near the bar and chairs in a disheveled manner, it looked like someone made a half-effort to clean the aftermath of a house party gone crazy for their parents about to arrive. Fortunately they sat us at a booth near the bar which thankfully was set up with silverware and such. As for service, we had an attentive server but she was handling the tables at the bar plus the bar itself and had to make all the drinks for people. Made me realize why I'm glad I'm no longer in the service industry with all the running around. My first glass of wine came quickly as did my dad's iced tea but refills took some time so yes, getting beverages or quick items took patience. I will give her an 'A' for effort as she ran faster than the Lions defenders trying to recover a fumble. Now the eats, we started with buffalo & sesame soy wings which my Dad loved but I thought eh, maybe it was the size of them and how some were crispy and some were tender. Afterwards, we got entrees: Me: Memphis BBQ Burger w/ Baked Potato and side of Broccoli Dad: Detroit Sliders w/ Onion Rings and side of Broccoli The burger was surprisingly tender and a perfect Medium and the BBQ sauce and crispy onions with bacon was a nice touch. Dad thought the sliders were ok; a bit bland. But he loved the onion rings as did I. The Broccoli was also tasty too; who says veggies have to be boring!? After dinner, we got a pecan pie for dessert (free dessert with check-in) and I added an irish coffee to help wash things down. The pie was excellent; the best part of the meal in my opinion. So the food is hit/miss but the food/drink prices are favorable. Plus the free dessert upon check-in is dope. We went to this place when we were staying near the Detroit airport during a recent visit. We didn't feel like driving into the city, so we were left with limited options. We walked over to here from the Embassy Suites with zero expectations. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and friendliness of this place! We sat at the bar and were greeted by our bartender- I can't recall this gentleman's name, but he was social and affable. We ordered a few drinks, the (homemade!!!) mozzarella sticks, the French onion soup (amazing!), a burger, and a special (a burger quesadilla). The portion sizes were huge and the food was tasty! We brought a lot home! Additionally, everything felt like it was made there. It was just a random food venue on a Holiday Inn, but it was actually a tasty experience! The husband and I were looking for something different on a Friday night and came across this place. I'm not one to eat at hotel restaurants, esp. if I'm not staying in that hotel, but he convinced me based on the reviews. The place was completely dead when we walked in at dinnertime. Our server Nina was really friendly and personable. She was surprised when we told her we weren't travelers or airline employees. Obviously French onion soup was a must. I ordered the steak (medium rare) with some mac and cheese as my side. My husband got the fish and chips meal. The soup was incredible. So rich. I loved it. I had to remind myself I had an entree coming soon or I'd have licked the crock clean. My steak was very thin and thus pretty overcooked. Luckily it was still tender. Nina offered to have it remade but it was fine. I was actually more disappointed that the steak wasn't seasoned in any way. I salted and peppered the crap out of that thing. Same goes for the mac and cheese. It was really cheesy, but didn't taste like much. I had to add a bunch of salt and even requested some sour cream to give it a kick. Jacob enjoyed his fish and chips. The fries were reminiscent of McDonald's fries. We both enjoyed them. I had a Yelp check-in offer for a free dessert, so I ordered cheesecake. It was SO GOOD. We ordered an appetizer and I had the onion soup before dinner. My hubby ordered the ribeye which was cooked to his liking and very tender. First time truer from Texas. Ok.. I'll start with a TLDR; just go 1 block away and get McDonald's. Trust me. Party of 3 on a Monday afternoon waited 30 minutes, with completely empty tables that I could see. Only one other party (of 1) in front of me. The local beer was the only thing that was good. French onion soup was highly touted by the waitress. Not that great and full of oil on top. The NY strip was like 14" long and 6" wide 4-6" thick. Ordered medium rare and got everything from rare to medium all in one steak. Absolutely no rendering of the fat, inedible as can be. The baked potato was about 4" long, although, it was the best item on my plate. Avoid this place at all costs. The price is decent, if you've never had anything better. We were staying at the SpringHill Suites at the airport for an early morning flight and this restaurant was in the Holiday Inn next door so it was convenient. I read the reviews and figured it sounded pretty good and considering there's not much else nearby this sounded like a good choice. Well we were both happy with our meals. I got the chicken quesadilla and my friend got the buffalo chicken wrap with thin fries. Both items were on the specials menu for the day. When you do a Yelp check-in you get a free dessert and since we both had yelp on our phone we both got free desserts. I got a hot fudge sundae and my friend got the strawberry cheesecake New York style. Both desserts were very large and very delicious. I digress, let's move on. I walk in and am seated immediately. A waitress, who initially appeared to be very nice shows up in less than a minute. Takes my drink order, and I order my meal. Bourbon Chicken, with two sides. Before I know it my meal is in front of me. Yes heading for 4 stars, maybe 5. Then i check in on Yelp, and I'm offered a free desert with my meal. I'll have the Peanut Butter Pie, please. Took a little while but it comes out. Not bad and I'm preparing to give at least 4 stars. Then things go south. The bill comes, just the meal and no mention of the pie. Makes sense right? It was a yelp perk. So I give the waitress my credit card, but when it comes back for me to sign, oddly the charge for desert is now on the bill. What? I call her over, explain, and she becomes flustered, but says "oh yes the yelp thing". The bill is corrected but my waitress disappeared and a hostess brings the new, correct, bill. Just seems a little shady to me. Maybe they expected me to just sign the check and leave without noticing. Just wrong. If you don't want to give away free deserts, that's fine, but don't try to look like a hero and then try to slip it by the customer. Or was this possibly a scam by the help? I'm in this area a few times a year, but you know the phrase, fool me once, shame on you, you won't have the opportunity to fool me twice because I won't eat there again, and I recommend that you don't eat there. Chick fil a Mac n cheese should not be better than a restaurants. The wings taste like the kind you buy at the grocery store and heat in the oven and serve. This was all after not eating all day. Had family from out of town . great time spent by all our waitress was phenomenal was able to order just about anything from the menu for breakfast minus eggs benedict and steak and eggs but everything else as great. The drinks were big and alcoholic but honestly I was more of a fan of the food. The mozz sticks were huge and gooey, I'd probably go back just for those. The French Onion soup really hit the spot though. It had just enough cheese and a good beef and onion flavor. Service was good for it being later in the evening. I stop by this place anytime I'm near DTW airport. This restaurant is attached to a hotel but it has its own separate entrance. I have tried different things on the menu. Their chicken paste is great, mozzarella sticks are always fresh and super cheesy, I really like the Mac and cheese when it is fresh with the bread crumbs on top. Recently I tried the bbq burger, it wasn't my favorite but it wasn't bad either. The restaurant has really good service when it isn't busy. When it gets busy be prepared to have some patience for you servers. read more

Due to COVID, I'm giving Urban Steak a little better rating than I otherwise might. Yes, it's part of a Holiday Inn. Near DTW airport, you don't have much to choose from. Overall, I thought the food was pretty good. I started with the onion soup. It was pretty good. They could add a little more cheese. The soup itself is only $5, which makes it a bargain. Charge $7 and add on another slice of cheese. I followed that up with the Ribeye with onion rings and broccoli. The rings were nice and crispy. The broccoli was probably frozen, but was cooked correctly. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. It was a pretty steak, cut well with a good sear. The problem was that it was probably in between a select and choice cut. Just not enough marbling. But, for a Holiday Inn restaurant, it was better than expected. In general, the entire meal could have used a little more salt and pepper. Over all, for what it is and the relatively low prices, this was a decent meal. read more
