This is my local-go-to Vietnamese restaurant for my work. Definitely meets my work-lunch expectations: gets out at a decent time and fills you up. Unfortunately this place did not provide big nor yummy bites for us. The shrimp po boy came with 4 measly shrimp (small shrimp, lots of batter). The grilled pork that came w/ the bun (vermicelli dish) was the worst vietnamese grilled pork i've ever had; thin sliced, dry, very sad. I've been a loyal customer to Big Bites but today, I ordered the grilled tofu bahn mi sandwhich and chocolate chip cookie via door dash and both items were burnt! The bread was charred and the grilled tofu was also overdone. The cookie when you flip over had burnt spots. I am disappointed that they would still package these items when it was clearly not edible. I don't know now if I could order again after this experience. read more

Bun Bo Hue(spicy beef noodle soup) here is excellent and there isn't another Vietnamese restaurant in the Mountain View area that serves it. The spicy soup had a rich flavor and the meat is super tender. The owner is super sweet and always remembers me and my family. I'm so glad they are here in Mountain View. Most who knows about this special Vietnamese soup is only available down in the San Jose area or maybe a few places in San Francisco. Besides this soup, I've enjoyed the veggie Pho, too. Full of veggies with a delicious soup base. Be sure to order some sweet potatoes fries because they make them with crunchy edges to munch down on with a creamy sauce on the side to dip. If you know anything about Vietnamese food you'll know that this place is mediocre at best. The phở/ bún bò huế broth is very bland and tasteless. I can tell not much time or effort goes into the soup. Everytime I've ordered a spring roll (gỏi cuốn) it's fallen apart. The bánh mì is passable at best, but that isn't saying much because a sandwich is easy to make. The meat is definitely microwaved right before assembly because most of the time it is too hot. Never coming back to this place. If you live in the area and want a delicious, authentic tasting Vietnamese food, then head to Phở To Chau. They are actually worth your time/money. read more

So I tried this place out today, and I gave it a 3 because it wasn't bad but wasn't great. Pros- I ordered their spring rolls, they where fresh, good and the peanut sauce wasn't bad -$5.50 - the place was clean and had a very open lay out Cons -I ordered the Thai ice tea, very dissapointing, -$3.95 it should be good. I ordered the pork and chicken sandwich through the app and picked it up in store. The pork was decent, but the chicken was quite terrible. The chicken was shaped in a perfect circle and apparently it is prepared by pounding the meat into a paste, wrapping it with a banana leaf, and boiling it, but it it wasn't for me. Great for a quick bite! Big Bites offers big portions for a low price. You'll be spending under $10 for a huge portion of pho or noodles. The food is standard Vietnamese cuisine with nothing particularly noteworthy other than consistent quality in most of their dishes. The decor is also a bit odd as it feels like Big Bites kept the decor of their previous establishment and added their own. The food here is really good. I went here tonight for dinner with 3 other people. We all ordered different items and we all enjoyed them. Our food came out one plate at a time. My soup was given to the wrong person and then a second incorrect dish was given to that same person. I can chop all of this up to the restaurant being new and the employees being new as well. I ordered the spicy noodle soup with lots of meat (I can't remember what it was called). It had great flavor, and a good amount of spice, however it came out a little less than hot. My first visit to this friendly new Vietnamese Restaurant was very satisfiying. The Saigon Style seasoned pork sandwich was very flavorful and garnished with fresh vegetables. Quality varies a lot. Noodle bowls and pho are pretty good, but at least the chicken curry special tasted and had the texture of being several days old and reheated. One star off for that. Reviews are inherently subjective, but my policy is also to take a star off reviews when the tip policy seems a bit aggressive...in this case, paying with credit prompts you to pay min 15% tip. Traditionally for counter service it should be change or up to a buck or two (think of a tip jar). They're kind of greedy and that rubs me the wrong way (just trying to squeeze extra bucks out of people as a quasi hidden fee via guilt). read more

Wow! We used to eat here a lot and loved it. We went back for lunch today and besides the general service issues (only one fork for 2 salads, sighing at asking for hot sauce), the food was terrible. My beef bowl was skimpy on a double portion of beef but I was glad because the beef was dry and leathery. There was about a tablespoon of the pickled carrots and radish and absolutely no flavor in the dressing. The green papaya salad had zero flavor! I was shocked. And the spring rolls had no carrots/radish, no cilantro or Thai basil leaves. It was lettuce, noodles and shrimp. Even the Thai iced tea was bland...I could find the Thai iced tea flavor but it was so watered down. I don't know how they have gone downhill so far. I was craving Vietnamese food and we had 30 mins to kill while we waited on a movie. It's been 2 years and I decided to give this place a chance again. I ordered the lotus salad and told them NOT to include onions. After 20 mins ( not even sure why it takes so long to assemble a salad when we were the only customer ). They delivered a salad full of onions. I brought it back and told them I cannot eat onions. The girl brought it back to the back and reminded them that I ordered it without onions. 5 mins later, they brought it back out. I noticed that half the ingredients they had listed on the menu was not on the salad. In addition, the bottom half is the salad all bean sprouts! Really?! A Vietnamese lotus salad does NOT have bran sprouts. They were being cheap by adding filler in it. The carrots, cilantro and diakon were missing. The rau ram mint was missing - that was half the ingredients. At this point, I was not happy but thought, Oh well. I tried it, and it TASTED LIKE ONIONs!! Super strong onion taste!. I immediately took it to them and told them that they should not do business like this. If I was allergic to onions, they need to take it seriously cause someone could get hurt. I told them they just took it back there and removed the onions. They denied it. I then asked them why half the ingredients were missing and there were mostly bean sprouts at the bottom. They said it was because the menu was old. Really? You couldn't stock the cheap ingredients that are essential to this dish? You are missing more than half the ingredients. I had the Vietnamese salad which was packed with chicken. It was delicious! I also had one of their homemade big chocolate chip chunk cookies which was also delicious. I've been eating at BB for the past couple of years. Hands down the best Pho I have had outside of Vietnam. I love the Organic Chicken, and the Filet Mignon Pho. I've enjoyed other dishes, esp. Banh Mi and noodle bowls (I found the salad just so-so). I'm a regular, and eat there at least once a week, often twice. The pho is clean, fresh and doesn't make me feel too full or sick afterwards. The broth is complex, and just a little on the sweet side, I like that. The crispy shallots are the best! And the pho is crammed with noodles and, veggies and meat (if ordered). It's a great deal! Because this place is seriously homemade food, the quality may vary from time to time - sometimes the chicken breast in the soup is a little overdone - but it does not ruin the dish. I've also enjoyed Banh Mi a few times (very very good, very fresh bread) and the noodle dishes are perfect and hit the spot. The only dish and drink I have had and not enjoyed was the salad (just not worth the price for the amount I got) and their Vietnamese coffee wasn't very good. I think part of the problem is it's hard to get good staff. By and large, the owner does a wonderful job and her head chef too. If they are in the back, I'm guaranteed a great meal. But if I see an unfamiliar face there (like the time I had the coffee), results and quality may vary - but never to the point that I wish I hadn't stopped by. I see other reviewers comment on the length of time to get your order. Yes, it does vary. Often pho is a 5-10 min. wait - but so worth it! At the peak of lunch hour, it can be hard to get a spot. THEY SERVED MY OFFICE ROTTEN CHICKEN!! Monday I ordered food from Big Bites Eatery Catering and when they arrived, I noticed we had an extra tray of a dish I had not ordered, and assumed it was part of the DIY bowl meal, so I served it to our office. Once people started eating, it was very apparent something was incredibly wrong with this extra dish. I had the chef come over to take a look and he confirmed that this was chicken left sitting in their hot box that had been there so long that it was fermented- the texture of the chicken was like playdough and it was encased in a thick, sticky sauce. The chef said he didn't know how long it was sitting there but it had to be at least a week to get to that consistency. I have never experienced anything like this but am very concerned about their kitchen safety. Luckily, mostly everyone here spit it out, so no one got sick, but their ignorance could've caused a much bigger problem for our office. To make things worse, the owner is has not contacted me directly since she found out about this to apologize, so I have no option but to review. Awful, awful experience. read more

We had been here once before and just thought it was just decent. This place is fairly large for the small strip mall it's in. The food here also comes out relatively quick which makes it a good quick lunch option. I got the chia lychee tea and the flank steak with rib eye pho. The chia lychee tea was a little too sweet for me but was still decent. The broth for the pho was sweeter than some other pho places but was balanced out with the beef flavor. The meat was also decent quality with a good ratio of meat to fat. Noodles were also cooked well. The only bad part about the pho was that the bean sprouts had brown tips, which signaled that they were not fresh at all. I've never had a terrible Vietnamese sandwich until I came here. I was on yelp, and this was on the top of the list for Vietnamese food. I stopped by ordered a Vietnamese sandwich and a Vietnamese coffee. Sandwich looked very well made until I took my first bite... bread was extremely stale (i imagines that this is how cardboard taste like). The coffee tasted like iced water with a hint of hazelnut. I've had bad Vietnamese coffee before so I won't base this review too much on that. Overall the sandwich was terrible, it took about 15 minutes to have my food, and the coffee was bad. Four stars for kind service and hearty portions. I especially enjoyed the cooked white onion, crunchy fried onion topping, and fried tofu cubes in my vegetarian/vegan pho. (I'm not sure if it's 100% vegan.) Unfortunately, everything else was disappointing. **Pho Quest #50** Big Bites is the latest tenant to this strip mall that houses Safeway as well as a Dickey's BBQ and the fairly popular Momo's Sushi. It's not too far off from Shoreline Century Theaters and is a popular lunch spot with a crowded and busy parking lot. The place is very clean, with bright lighting, several tables and a refrigerator with lots of beverage choices. The menu focuses on Vietnamese staples: banh mi, noodle soups, and spring rolls. My order: Spring Rolls - $5.50. They were out of shrimp so asked if they could substitute grilled chicken. Two rolls, sliced in half, were plated nicely, prepared fresh, and served with peanut sauce. Tasty, albeit taking over 15 minutes to prepare. Pho - $9.95. Ordered a beef and waited for about 20 minutes. Solidly presented in a large bowl with a few cuts of flank steak on top. The bowl was mainly noodles though and served with a small side of condiments: bean sprouts, basil, sliced peppers, and a wedge of lime. Sriracha and hoisin sauce are self serve as are the utensils, although the chopsticks are at the table. The flank steak was nice quality but only a handful of slices. Without any accompanying meatball, tendon, tripe, or beef cuts (not really to be expected here), it's a very lonely bowl, especially at $10. Broth was savory, but otherwise average and the noodles, while prepared well, were simply notable for quantity. Overall, given the location and target demographics (nearby apartment complexes, office workers), I was hoping Big Bites would be similar to Los Gatos Mom and Pop gem, the Sandwich Maker. Obviously, I don't expect quality to be equal to Little Saigon, but the inflated prices and long preparation times are the opposite of most Vietnamese shop out there. That being said, the clean decor, online ordering (20% off, which I'd just prefer in lower starting prices), wifi access, and credit card acceptance might work here, although I'm willing to drive for my pho fix. I have been here several times and it seems to always be the same. Decent to good food. Slower to slow service. Where to begin, as we entered the restaurant I noticed 3 tables that had not been cleaned up. This is not a problem if the place was busy. But there was a total of 3 people in the place besides ourselves. The young boy, maybe 13 y/o, was too busy on the Ipad to bother to clean or say hello to us. We ordered our Pho and got it within 7 mins which is standard for this place. When it's busy we have received half orders and all at different times (which is terrible). As we were eating our Pho, which is always good. I noticed how the young man was very inexperienced in dealing with customers and how to multitask at the restaurant. His skills in dealing with customers was just as bad. He was however very good on the phone with his friend who asked him if he wanted to go to see the tank movie "Fury". I know this because he was very loud. I understand that this is a family restaurant but someone needs to teach the kid how to clear tables in a timely manner, how to greet customers, and how to speak on the phone before they let him interact with customers. Will I go back? Probably, but only when it is slow because I know they are unable to handle volume. This could be a very good eatery if they got their stuff together. read more

Ordered my food via Postmates and when my food was delivered I almost drove back to this restaurant to complain about how horribly ripped-off I was. First, they used the wrong noodle (pho noodles) for the beef stew and there was literally no real beef parts; the bowl was full of vegetables. This dish was ordered for my boyfriend, he's 180 lbs -- let me tell you, this guy hardly ever complains about his food yet, he was NOT happy with what he got -- and was left hungry. Secondly, I got a beef pho and tripe and there were maybe three fledgling pieces of tripe lost in a sea of broth. My food looked like it was ordered for a vegan, nothing but noodles, soup, and vegetables. I'm all 90 lbs and this wasn't enough to quench my appetite. That speaks volumes. Can't believe I paid $41 for this sh*t. Who pays for $41 worth of food and feel completely hungry and dissatisfied? That is either ironic or simply put, the restaurant just didn't give a crap about quality and service because I wasn't physically in the shop for them to care so they thought they could get away with being total sh*theads? So I regularly go to the Safeway next to Big Bites and have been meaning to try it for a while. So tonight I checked on their menu and was happy to see that there were vegan options available. I ended up ordering the veggie pho and the lemon grass curry tofu. I got it to go and split the dishes with my (also vegan) mom. The pho was good if I had just had that I would probably have rated this at 3 or 4 stars. Unfortunately, we found a big piece of chicken(bigger than the tofu) in the curry.
