I'm really not sure why there are so many 1 star reviews on here claiming that the customer service is horrible. We've always had a fantastic experience here and the employees are always friendly and helpful. Yes, they often do not have a ton roaming around to help (not that they don't want to, but I just feel like they're often understaffed) but if you go up to the checkout counter to ask a question or request assistance, they will help you out immediately and with a smile. The store is also a large location and inventory is great. This location is a bit out of the way for us and further than other Big 5 locations, but we always know that they are going to have anything we need. The store is also well laid out so you can easily find what you need quickly. It's never messy when we go, despite what other people say on here, and it's just an all around good shopping experience. Honestly, if they were able to staff up a bit to have a few more employees roaming the floor outside of the shoe department, I would give this location 5 stars. Maybe I've been lucky on the dozen or so times I've been here, but I see no reason to complain about this location at all. read more

As soon as I walked in, I was effectively directed, guided and advised. I wanted a new BB gun and stopped at Turners first because I figured a firearms dealer would also have great BB guns. As it turned out, Big 5 had a far more impressive and comprehensive inventory beyond my expectations. Buying too many things quickly became a concern for me. The best part about my visit was Brenda's knowledgeable and effective assistance. Brenda answered my questions with ease, clear familiarity and confidence. It was impressive. Came in looking for dumbells. I wanted the adjustable ones, but they didn't have those. They did have the steel basic ones, which I ended up getting. The people working here were friendly. Shout out to Big 5 on Victory Bl in Winnetka, CA. I bought a pair of shoes while traveling in Tooele, UT. When I got home, I needed to exchange them - one of the lacing hooks had broken. On 01/08/2024, I went into my local store, and they did the exchange with absolutely NO HASSLE. They went and got me a new pair, processed the exchange, and I was out of there within five minutes. I'll use this big five a lot and buy a lot of ammo here I've never had a problem with the ammo I buy except for one time I bought some Winchester 5.56 ammunition and most of the casings were corroded and stained and this ammo does not look safe to shoot I took it back to the store the next day and showed the manager and she told me she did not care. The manager told me that ammo is not a changeable or returnable if they would tell their customers this before they bought ammo I would've checked the ammo now I cannot shoot the ammo that I paid a lot of money for and it is all because they did not tell me that it cannot be returned and I should check my ammo before I buy it never did they tell me that I cannot return it there is a little sign that is very hard to see. If they are not going to tell their customers that they cannot return the ammo and they should check it they should make the sign very big. read more

I had previously looked on an online retailer but Under Armour has tons of different styles and they all look alike. I ended up with the wrong pair which (looked similar in the photos). I purchased a snow pants on 01/16 and I returned it 02/07 not even a month with the receipt. The cashier didn't accept the item. She told me that it's the end of the season and they don't accept returns for those items. At the end of the season? It's Spring or Summer ? I didn't noticed. Went in here to find a Laker hat for a gift. The store is super cramped; I'm not claustrophobic, but this store could turn me! I was directed to the hat "section." There were about 15 hats there and about 10 of them were Adidas hats. Worst selection ever. There were also about 5 summer-style straw hats near the door. Horrible. Absolutely the WORST customer service ever. I went in to get cleats for my brother. Asked for help to find a size and the lady said someone would help me. I waited literally 25 minutes and no one even acknowledged me. Finally I went to find it myself. Found one and went to pay and it's missing the matching cleat. Then they had me pay before I even got the matching cleat. Then they tell me that they don't have the matching cleat. My husband went into this location to purchase a pair of mens shoes for me for work. He told the man that he needed a mens 8.5 work shoes. The were out of my size memory foam so the guy comes back with Womans 10. My husband trusted the guy so he didnt look at the box. I sent him back and the same guy explains Womens 10 is same as mens 8.5. Are you kidding me. No they are not the same. That size is longer and more narrow. Your people need to stop lieing to customers in order to get a sale. There are too many people out there who need a job that actually care. This guy is unprofessional. This is surely the sporting goods store from the seventh layer of hell. Even in his travels, Dante himself never stumbled upon something so frightening. Ok, so that's obviously terribly overly dramatic. But the thing is it looks like a bomb went off in there. (I don't think you can say that anymore. I think you get thrown in jail for saying bomb now. I'll just employ one of my mother's favorites:) It looked like the wreck of the Hesperus. My friend Dustin needed some water shoes (which I have always called water socks, but I digress) so we went to the sporting goods store nearest the Salvation Army *I* wanted to go to (I love love LOVE to thrift store shop) that wasn't the stupid boxing shop at 7015 or whatever which was the first thing google suggested. The rounders (which are those units the clothing is hung on) were all disorganized with hangers tossed on all jiggery pokery style, there was stuff on the floor, the displays were a mess... and the water "shoe" area was really just a travesty. The woman (and I use the term loosely) we asked about locating them gestured vaguely and said they were by the chairs. The chairs she meant ended up being part of a display on top of the shelving unit the shoes were on. Perhaps she should have said UNDER the chairs. The selection was lousy and we left with nothing. I would offer an alternate sporting goods location, but I detest (almost) anything that makes me sweat and so am not often found anywhere near sports equipment. I hear Chicks is good. This is one of the bigger and better Big 5 locations. Upon entry, one is greeted by one or more employees. The employees make sure that you will want to come back just by giving that super customer service technique of asking what they can help you find or locate. I like the general layout of this store. The spacing in the isles is ample and it is easy to find the items that you are looking for. Assistance from the employees make this even easier. They do have a good selection of team and individual sport items. They are geared up for hunting, fishing, hiking, biking and even carry items for rollerblading and skateboarding. Swimmers and divers would like this place to as they offer a moderate selection of items pertaining to these sports. They carry a good selection of team sport items for the baseball, football, hockey, basketball and even the volleyball enthusiast. For those who don't play sports but enjoy cheering on your favorite team, they do have some of the local and statewide team wear and officially licensed logo products for NFL, NHL, NCAA, MLB and MLS. They also carry a good selection of watches, sunglasses and even air powered firearms. read more

This is perhaps a nostalgia review as I truly remember Big 5 as being the go to place for affordable running shoes and athletic gear when I was a kid. Sure, it's cramped and the person that organized the place is probably somewhere between schizophrenic and a sociopath, but there are a lot of good deals if you're willing to sift through the mess. Consider it like the Goodwill store--you get what you put into the venture. Today I swung by and found good deals on Nike apparel and "avoid blisters at all costs" socks. For the record, the shoe/sock region of the store is apparent; the rest is a mish mash of unclear themes. Anyhow, no wait, no lines, and bargains everywhere. Don't go in with too high of expectations (this is not Sports Authority orderliness) and keep your eyes peeled for that Gatorade gum you always wanted to try for half a buck and the high end baseball bat that is a steal at 200 smackers! read more

Worst customer service EVER....will never give Big 5 my business again. They wouldn't honor an coupon (that expired a few days ago) and instead made me dig through my car at 4 months pregnant to find the exact same coupon with a valid expiration date on it. They literally send THE SAME EXACT COUPON in the mail like every week....I have a million lying around. They should take a clue from the bed bath and beyonds of the world and be more accommodating to their clients. They just lost at least $700 a year from me alone over something so petty.
