I went to the store yesterday. The associates were rude and not helpful . In the beginning, they seemed polite but gradually they stated being disrespectful and leaving inappropriate comments about my health problems. When I said I have plantar fasciitis and I have a back ache because of accident ,he mocked me .Then, one of them said our shoes are better than yours . You don't understand what good shoes are. Their selection is subpar compared to other locations. I thought they would have a good variety considering the location itself is huge and is 2 floors, but nope. Their service is similar to their selection; they have barely any. I feel weird coming to this location so I shop here as little as possible. I either just order online or go to another location or store. Every time I've asked someone who works here to help me place an order or check availability they've guided me in the wrong direction. The most recent example being when I asked if they had a women's shoe I was looking for in stock and they said they do. When I checked, I noticed it was the W version of the shoe, but the sales associate kept saying that didn't exist despite it clearly stating so on the box. Anyways, long story short, I ended up order of the retailers website and got the correct shoe. The stars are mainly for how cool this location looks. Ordered ON shoes and preferred to have them picked up at their store instead of shipping to my home address since there's been a lot of thefts lately which came out great! Love the shoes so much that I ordered another one. Here's where everything went downhill. For some reason their system will not them ship to the store for pickup like my previous one so I have no choice but to have them shipped to my address despite the on going thefts. Not only did I have to wait hours(don't have anyone else to receive them) to know when exactly they're going to be delievered but during the shipment cashier forgot to put down my unit number which created a huge problem. So I had to track down OnTrac delivery guy to pick it up from him but this whole drama could've been avoided if they shipped it to the store for pickup. I had a somewhat complicated item return due to REI online having screwed up and sent me the wrong item twice. The cashier person was unable to figure out how to complete the transaction and practically admitted to their manager, and in front of me, they thought I was pulling a scam. RUDE!!! Men's Patagonia selections at this particular location was lackluster, and the overall vibe I got from the sales staff was overbearing and uncomfortable. At checkout, a different cashier failed to apply my rewards dollars (as requested) which turned into an ordeal since they had to refund me the items and charge them again so my rewards could be applied. The location itself was clean and organized, restrooms included. The store was not too busy or crowded. I left very disappointed since I generally have great shopping experiences at REI. I have been a member for years, hold their Mastercard, make significant online purchases, and make the 80+ mile trip to this location a few times a year. read more

I love this REI! It's newer. It's clean. Parking is easy. They have preferred parking for REI customers. They seem better stocked than most other REI stores. Customer service is wonderful (as it is with most REI stores). Pricing is good esp when they have sales. And good Covid-19 measures were in place. They had disposable masks and hand sanitizer available in a few areas of the store. Although there are other REI stores closer to my home, I always find myself at this location because of product availability. During my most recent visit, my bf and I found Martin (at the register) to be extremely friendly and helpful. read more

On Wednesday, 1/22, I brought my bike in for a flat rear tire repair. Everything went well until I rode my bike on Thursday morning and had the same flat. Of course I was annoyed. I brought it back to REI. Devon customer service was outstanding. She took the time to check the tire for any sharp objects and found a piece of glass that was puncturing the tube. I am a new customer to REI. My first visit was picking up an item. I screwed up the item purchased beyond repair. I took it to the Woodland Hills where I purchased it. I went thinking they would not accept it as a return since I damaged it. To my surprise, the young fellow working there remembered me when I picked it up. I've been an REI member for 20+ years as they always have the best equipment. This store is great and I could spend hours just checking out all the great equipment. With the COVID-19 issues, I stopped in for a few items for my Yeti. I shop at REI for cycling, flashlights, camping supplies as well as footwear. With cycling, their shoes and accessories collection is excellent and you can find nearly any too necessary. Their camping equipment (sleeping bags, pads, etc.) are also outstanding. Additionally, they have my options when it comes to flashlights. They have some rechargeable handheld models from Fenix as well as various brands of "head" lights. Everyone one at the Woodland Hills store is friendly and helpful. Keep up the great work! read more

REI ...Will you marry me?!? Lol, I love everything about you and at this time -I wouldn't change a thing! I love everything about REI, from its Membership benefits, quality products/services available and especially love the customer service here. It's sad that so many other Yelp reviewers had bad experiences. I'm grateful and lucky (I guess) to not have issues. If you pay a one-time membership fee (I paid $20, long time ago) you'll start accumulating dividends/a sort of "refund" for each dollar you spend. I'm not exactly sure how it's calculated, but I spent quite a bit of $$$ -which earned me REI credit, that enabled me to purchase a brand new pair of LA Sportiva hiking shoes (retail value about $140.00)! People take this dividend program for granted. It's not as if REI, has to have this dividend program for it's customers -certainly other sporting goods store competitors DON'T have it. So I am grateful for the existence of such a dividend/reward program at REI. Anyhow, once you become a member -you can register all your purchases under your email address and therefore won't have problems having losing track of receipts too. I understand not all outdoorsy folks are environmentally conscious -but email receipts may contribute to saving trees and minimizes the possible return issues too. I love, love, love the customer service here. Employees are so knowledgeable, friendly and have so much patience to help me decide on the item(s) that suits me best. As I forget all the names of the individuals who previously helped me in the backpack and shoes section -all so fantastic! In times of COVID-19 and curbside pick-up, I should mention everything went smoothly. Check online for available classes, rental services, and I have friends who had positive things to say about booking an REI adventure too. With REI having so much to always give/offer, how could you not want to marry REI too! ...if you could, lol :D read more

A huge shoutout to Shawn in bike repair. I came in unannounced with some repair questions. I asked Shawn if he knew generally what the problem could be and he said to bring the bike in. I wheeled it in and he dropped what he was doing to inspect my bike. He helped fix the seat, which was titling too far forward. He also got my rear brake to work and filled the tires. I am impressed! I recently became a member of this store's rewards club upon bringing my E-Bike to be serviced for a tune-up. I have never been so impressed with a bike store's level of professionalism and ability to live up to the customer-service creed! I came to get my bike and everything was all tuned up and the wheel was looking like it did when I first bought it before my accident almost a year ago. Kyle was a very cool, cordial, and transparent individual who did a great job with explaining everything to me. I ended up spending $81 to get my bike tuned up. Everyone who works here is a true gem. It seems like REI in general is stocking less stuff in-store. And everything, literally everywhere, is f*cked up because of the pandemic so I don't have high expectations when I walk into stores anymore these days. The people that work here ALWAYS figure out how to help me get what I need. They'll either order it for me to pick up in a couple days or suggest where else I might be able to find something. I've never been disappointed with a trip to this REI, even if I walk out empty handed. I'm eager to see all REI stores unionize. It makes a lot of sense to me that a co-op would have a union. Odd there isn't already one in place. These employees definitely deserve hella protections and benefits. They go above and beyond. I'm not good with names but the small person with long dark hair who is very mild mannered is incredibly helpful. And the larger human with a jolly circle head is always a delight to see. My one ick with this place is the customer base is about 90% rich white men in their 50s and those dudes tend to be spitty close talkers who don't wear masks and seem to think they're invincible. Because of this, I REALLY wish there were still a mask mandate in place and I would encourage this store, with this incredibly specific clientele, to require masks in order to keep the rest of us safe. read more

Upon check out the cashier offered 30 dollars off our bill if we signed up so finally we caved. BUT turns out the membership costs 30 dollars and they didn't tell us that. This is my favorite REI location! The atmosphere in the store makes me feel like I am already on an adventure. Service here is prompt, knowledgeable and proactive. When a sales associate heard about our plans to go to Alaska, they suggested that we purchase items we needed on-line and have them shipped to the Anchorage REI location in order to avoid having to pay for extra luggage weight at the airport. This is more of a shout-out to Lane in the bike department. The guy is FANTASTIC! Like really really good. Gives you the unbelievable support that REI is famous for, and he knows his s*&t as well. I purchased a bike from another REI in Los Angeles that was just wrong for me. I bought it in the middle of the pandemic and immediately started having a bad experience both with the bike (again, wrong for me) and with customer service at that specific REI. I wasn't going to have an REI touch my bike again. In a last-ditch effort to salvage my newfound enjoyment for mountain bike riding, I called the Woodland Hills store asking for a part I wanted to replace. That one request put me on the phone with Lane. He knew instantly something was off. Lane lasered in on the issue and invited me in to the store with my bike so he could see it and we could talk. He spent 45 minutes with me (it was quiet that day) and we just talked about bikes. Lane made it clear he wanted to fix things and he did. I purchased a new bike that night. I have already brought it back so they can see how I am breaking it in. Lane (and his team) are all really great. Straight forward. How anyone gave this REI location less than 5 stars is beyond me. This is HANDS DOWN the best REI location I have been to in the Los Angeles area (looking at you Burbank...) First of all, let me get this out of the way right up front. I LOVE REI. It just feels like "home" to me. But, for the most part, I have found Los Angeles locations pretty lacking. With the exception of this location. I hate to be the one to say it, but size of store = selection. And this is the largest REI in the Los Angeles area by my estimation. Which means, they probably have the most stock of any of the locations I've been to. The parking lot can get a little crowded, but that is going to be an issue at an Los Angeles location. This parking lot is no more crazy than the Burbank location and in fact, I would say it's less crazy. This location is split level with a ll of the "gear" downstairs and all of the clothes and shoes upstairs. I actually like this kind of division, because it helps with window shopping if I'm just coming in to buy a camp chair I don't have to look at all of the sweet hiking clothes and/or boots while I'm doing it. This store also seems to have the most staff members of any other L.A. area location I've been to. And of course they are helpful. Other things I like about REI in general: GET THE MEMBERSHIP! If you're ever going to buy more than ONE thing at REI in your LIFETIME. It's totally worth it. It gives you access to special discounts, as well as a dividend (cash back) on all of your purchases. And it's only $25 for your ENTIRE LIFETIME! They also have incredible sales throughout the year. Now, the caveat to this is usually the only items that are on sale are the REI brand items, but you know what? I usually PREFER the REI brand items. They are usually just as high of quality and about half the price of a Patagonia, or North Face similar item. I think this has become my go to REI location in the Los Angeles area. Definitely worth it for me to go a little out of my way to come to this store. read more

I usually have a good experience here but the last time I went into the store, I was completely turned off by the staff members. When shown the dressing room, I was told to sort the unwanted items on the rack. It was the oddest experience I ever had. I did speak to the store manager about it and he said that is supposed to be a suggestion and not said like a command. I was racially profiled at this location! I was followed and made to feel like a criminal! My partner and I came in to look around for some hiking boots, but also wanted to browse the store as we've never been to REI. When we first walked in we were greeted at the door and asked if we needed help with anything. We told them we were browsing around for now. We looked around for maybe 5 minutes before we were approached again by another employee asking if we needed assistance. We told them we were browsing again, but they watched us as we looked around. We were looking at camping supplies when another employee, a short older white man, peeked his head around the corner and just stared at us. He very rudely asked us if we needed help and if we had memberships. We told him we didn't need help, but wanted to know where the hiking shoes were located. He continued to ask if we had memberships then told us hiking gear was upstairs. He watched us walk to the top of the stairs and got on his walkie to say we were headed up there. My partner was looking at jackets when he noticed another employee was watching him and started to follow him as he looked around. He was approached by two more employees after that asking if he needed help. We waited in line to look at hiking shoes. The employees in this department were the only ones I found helpful. An older Black gentleman and younger Latinx gentleman were working this section and helping another person ahead of us. I was helped by the Older gentleman. I wish I knew his name because he's the only one that deserves recognition. He helped me more than he knows. I originally looked at some boots online and showed him what I was looking at. They didn't have them in store, but he offered a similar style. I tried them on but they were too tight. He suggested Merrell boots as they would feel more comfortable. They didn't have my size in store but he told me everything I needed to know, all the way down to the color name, in order to find the ones I wanted online. A few days ago on my birthday I decided to buy some lightweight running shoes here . They have a pretty decent variety of best brands in the market . The display area for shoes is nice I wish they would let you look at shoes on your own rather than putting tables and robes between customers and the shoe shelves wall !! Went in for a bike for my daughter, not much in terms of inventory right now, a lot to do with the COVID-19 pandemic. The team here is really helpful and nice! I wander in every time I'm in the area to try on backpacks for my through hiking dream adventure that I fantasize about. Even though I say I don't need help, someone always insists that they help me to find my size for a backpack or to find the right pack. I didn't realize it at first, but the level of helpfulness and service at REI is a certain degree of rare and wonderful. I think that's why I get startled when they approach me so fast when I visit. Not many places do this anymore! They have everything you could possibly need for your outdoor adventures. I've visited this particular REI twice in the last couple of weeks. I love the Kühl brand pants I got there so much, that I went back for more. They were completely out of my size in all three of the available colors. I asked Janis, the sales associate working upstairs that day, to help me find my size. Janis checked to see if there were any in the storeroom. There were not, so she looked up the codes to order the correct size in each of the three colors and wrote them out for me. Despite the store being very clean and organized, I didn't see a line I knew they carried. So Janis also helped me locate the brand of t-shirts and I selected a couple I really like (wearing one now as a matter of fact). I then made my way to the register, where I had a great time talking with and being helped by Maddox-Mars. Maddox-Mars was so friendly and fun to talk to, that I enjoyed exceeding my budget a bit by ordering 3 pairs of pants, one in every color! Maddox-Mars also conveyed that she likes working for REI and that they treat their team members well. These things matter to me: quality products, ease of purchase, and a company that actually cares about the people who make the day-to-day work happen. I went to this REI location a little over a week ago for the first time and was very impressed. I needed to buy a new pair of waterproof snow boots for a trip to Utah. I can't remember the name of the saleswoman but she was super helpful and guided me to a great pair of boots. The cashier was great, too. Overall, the store is very well stocked and has a good vibe.
