New to Hutto and desired chinese. Quick search led me to Bien Hoa. Call in order process was effortless, lady was pleasant and order was ready in 15 minutes. Should have known something was wrong once arrived to an empty dining room and exposed clutter (...racks and racks of inventory, containers, etc). Interior doesn't really look clean, but maybe just a dated building. I don't know... Arrived home with hot freshly made food. Smelled good. Jumped into the Combination Egg Foo Young ...looks can be deceiving ...was dense & hard. Never seen EFY like this. Resembled large puffed hockey pucks. Inside was starchy and unseasoned. Fresh, yes. Service was extremely slow. We waited forever just for our appetizer (dumplings). The server didn't even remember what I ordered and had to come back and ask again. I got the pho with just the rare beef round. The plate with vegetables didn't even come with jalapeños or lime, like it usually does when you order pho. On top of that, there was barely any meat. Well the place looked gross, dirty floor with napkins scattered around to clean up a mess or something!! The older lady was RUDE... she's a mess and needs Jesus!!! Came here with regular customers who ordered everything. And I can definitely say every single dish was absolutely delicious. This is genuinely one of the best vietnamese restaurant I've had since moving here. We ordered the fried frog legs, pan fried noodles, salt and pepper fried squid, salt and pepper wings, and the steak with potato. Every fried dish was cooked perfectly with a light, crispy breading and sautéed in flavorful sauces. If you were to ask me which dish was my favorite, I wouldn't be able to tell you because I loved them all! I also got their passion fruit drink which was also really delicious and refreshing. Came here for the first time with my wife. We ordered the pork spring rolls for appetizers, Mongolian beef, and Szechuan chicken. Both entrees were very flavorful, but it was pretty rich or strong tasting if you know what I mean by that. Pretty oily. You definitely need rice to balance it out otherwise you'll feel grossed out after smashing these dishes. The spring rolls were delicious as well. We also ordered the Vietnamese coffee which was made perfectly. Overall, kind of expensive for a decent portion. There are a lot of tables. Staff ate friendly and fast. Very authentic Vietnamese food a gem in Hutto. I wasn't expecting a good classic Vietnamese restaurant in the middle of hutto but it's a very good well operated full flavored restaurant. Is it authentic? Yes. What I really like, is how the soups are not overly oily like other restaurants so this tells me that the broth is cleaner, and doesn't have too much fat, which I really appreciate. In fact, I order to go on purpose so that I can refrigerate the broth and scoop out the fat when it hardens, but I didn't have to this time. The crispy noodles are definitely crispy and it's fun to eat, mixed in with the dark soy sauce and the crunch of the fresh vegetables. The beef also taste, fresh and mixed together, it's a nice dish. The vermicelli bowl to go is another authentic example of my countries. Food, the noodles were bouncy and fresh, and was happy to taste the freshness of the beef, because it reminded me of the same freshness from the crispy noodles. When mixed together the noodles, the beef, the crushed peanuts with the sliced Vegetables, and you have to pour the sauce that comes with it, great fresh dish. I don't think I need to go into a detailed description of the beef noodle bowl because most people have had it already but I've been eating beef pho bowls for 37 years so this one, has to the the top 5 I've had in Austin. When comparing the amount of beef you get, to the flavors of the broth, and compared with the price, it's a very good strong flavored beef broth that doesn't taste like it came from a packet or jar, it does taste more home made. And lastly, the seafood pho bowl, it came with a separate chicken style broth, in the Vietnamese culture, you can't mix pho broth to a seafood broth but seafood broths come with not seafood but a chicken broth but comes with seafood ingredients. Very good broth not too salty which I like but when mixed with the seafood, it's a hearty dish, like American chicken noodle but Vietnamese seafood noodle just more elevated and with better ingredients. read more

Brief history: If you have been in Austin long enough, you've heard of Seadragon and their beef potato dish. Their closing was devastating because you can't find this dish (and their canh chua nha trang) anywhere. Fast foward, I was told a few days ago this dish is available at Bien Hoa. I just about ran there but Google map told me it's too far from my house, I couldn't go on a weekday after work. I did read Google reviews because I haven't heard of this place. There were numerous reviews of not so great service/servers. Regardless, they have this dish so I'm still going to try it. Well, here I am. I'd say it's 90% close to the original. The potatoes could be more sauteed/crisp on the outside and a little less sugar. I'm not exactly complaining because I can't get this anywhere, I'll accept what I can get! For the service part, there was one server, she was doing her best. Yes, she can sound like she's yelling when she talks, she has a loud voice in my opinion. I'm so disappointed in this restaurant. I've eaten here off and on since I moved to Hutto 20 years ago. The food was delicious and the owners were delightful in the beginning. I'm not sure if ownership has changed hands, but I almost never see the original family anymore. The woman who seems to run the place now is brusque, to say the least. She kept counting the large containers of the mains I ordered to take home to my family as if to somehow assure me all the food was there. I could see that for myself, but when I asked about the sides-soup, eggrolls, etc., she snapped that it was all there. It wasn't. They forgot one of the containers of soup, but it wasn't good enough to warrant going back into town to replace it, neither particularly hot nor sour. Nothing tasted fresh either. The portions were huge, but that isn't necessarily a good thing when the food isn't good. I've given Bien Hoa several chances to get it together since they closed for a brief time due to health department issues, but it's been the same or worse for a long time. I will go several months to a year before trying them again and always hope that this time will be different, because I remember a time when their food was fresh and good, but I keep getting disappointed. Fortunately, on the way to pick up our food yesterday evening, I saw that a new Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant is opening in the same general shopping area. My wife and I recently moved to Hutto, TX and were looking for a lunch spot. We came across this place in a strip mall near City Hall and thought to give it a try. My wife orders the Pho' and I had the Orange Chicken lunch special. I was offered a taste of the broth, really good. My wife enjoyed it and from what I could see, was plentiful. Mine, the chicken was really nice cuts of breast and well seasoned. It had a nice little spice to it. I failed to mention that the egg drop soup was very good too. I'm not a big fan of fried egg roles and stayed away from it until the end. After a little while I gave in and cracked it open, nice and tasty but even better to sop up the remaining sauce. Looks like we found a good place for Pho', and I'll be back to try a few of the specials. A note, I read some of the comments posted that the place had dirty floors. When we got there the lunch crowd had already left. There was a pile of dishes and lots of cleanup to do. That didn't take away from a great meal and very good and friendly service. read more

I had shrimp egg foo young, shrimp with lobster sauce, mongolian beef, fried rice, lemon chicken. the egg foo young was mealy with no beans sprouts with a semi sweet gravy, Mongolian beef was tough and overcooked. shrimp w lobster sauce was unrecognizable with a white glutinous gravy. the shrimp fried rice was ok. I've had lots of Chinese food in lots of cities but this was by far the worse. $85 and had to be thrown out! read more

It's very plain and seems more like Americanized Chinese/Vietnamese. We ordered to go and everything was correct on our order and when we picked it up it was still hot and fresh. We didn't receive any disposable silverware or any sauces, just 1 fortune cookie. Maybe that is on us that we should have asked, but still seemed a bit odd. We ordered the chicken pho, chicken fried rice, and the crab rangoons. Nothing seemed to be seasoned. The price points are good for this area and the amount of food you get. It's difficult to order online as they must have upload the pictures wrong because they do not appear and just show the measurement of the square above the name of the item. It was fine, not good or great. Not sure if we would come back here again due to other much better options being just a little further away than this place to us, but I do like that it is family owned. read more

The service is like "the soup nazi " on Seinfeld. lol the waitress we get EVERY time is so grumpy and kinda rude it's comical to me , but my daughter hates going bc of her. I think she rolls her eyes when you order water. lol . Another thing she does is when she comes to the table with the ticket and wants payment RIGHT THEN. I was craving Asian food and decided to order to-go from here since I haven't yet tried this restaurant yet and it's close by. I ordered the Beef Lo Mien and the Clay Pot. The total came out to around $30. The quantity was decent but the quality was really lacking. The food tasted pretty bland. Thankfully I had siracha at home to add for flavor. Food was bland especially the fried rice. The service we received was absolutely terrible. No smile, no hello, just "a sit over there". This woman literally went up to another customer and asked them "what do you want"? Nothing we tried was impressive and made me want to go back. I will say their steamed dumplings were good, but not good enough to overcome their lack of service and lack of flavor of their other meals. Yes it's in a shopping center. Yes it could be a bit cleaner. But one of the few places around that serves egg foo yung....the food has always been good when we eat there and comes out hot and quick. Staff comes across harsh but she isn't at all. They have limited staff and she manages it all well and realizing she isn't native and English is not her 1st language. I haven't been in here for months so I stopped by. Bien Hoa is a Vietnamese and Chinese restaurant. I have tried the pho, vermicelli, combo fried rice and pan fried noodles so I ordered the pepper steak to try it. It had a red pepper next to it indicating the dish was spicy, but I asked for it to be extra spicy. The pepper steak came out quickly! It was fresh off the pan. The spice was not there at all unfortunately. I was hoping for more spice than what they were going to put in it. The pepper steak wasn't bad. It came with plenty of bell pepper, onions and brown sauce. The fried rice is different than what I was expecting. No veggies just two scoops of yellow rice with tiny pieces of eggs in it. It was not bad. Just didn't have much flavor than other places. I also liked how the fried rice was not greasy. I read a lot of reviews that they give a large portion of food. I may be missing out since what I had seemed to be pretty standard portion sizes compared to other places. Nobody came by to check in on us after we got our food. I was hoping to get some chili oil or something to help spice up the dish. They do have Sriracha already on the table, but I needed something more. Once we were done eating they came by to drop the check off and refill my tea. I am all about supporting the mom and pop restaurants, but the food is just ok. The service has been better in the past. The front glass door looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months with fingerprints and smudges all over it and the floors and tables were very unkept. So I am always a little iffy about small town chinese food places. This place isn't great, but it isn't awful either. The service can be hit or miss, but the couple of times I have been, the food has been solid. I always get the crab rangoons w/sweet and sour sauce, the shrimp lo mein, and a pot of hot green tea and have yet to be disappointed. I have done the Vietnamese coffee only once, but will not do again as it is not served like I am used to (they serve it way traditional were it steeps in this contraption they bring to the table and you mix it yourself with the sweet milk), it was ok, but just not my taste. The price is not super cheap, not expensive...like Goldylocks, it is "just right" for what you get. I usually end up taking some of my lo mein to reheat. So if you are looking for a quick fix for Chinese in Hutto, this is the place to go! read more
