THE PICKY EATER FROM BOSTON Review: Bice -Pronounced Bee-chay 300 5th Avenue South, Naples, FL There's been some talk lately...it seems some folks are getting a little weary of dining on 5th Avenue and ending the evening with a $500 bill. So when two of our favorite friends told us about the Early Dining option at Bice we were excited to try it! First things first, early is the key word here. Early Dining is available daily from 3-5pm with the last seating at 4:30 and you must order before 5pm. Also important; you can't make reservations for the Early Dining, it's first come, first served so keep that in mind. The upside to afternoon dining is the prices! The Early dining menu offers 50% of food, 50% off select Classic cocktails as well as $5 Beer, House Wine and Prosecco. Seriously...who knew such a thing existed?! We arrived at 3:30, definitely early for your main meal, but we all agreed that growing up we would often have "Sunday Supper" at 2:00pm so we willingly embraced that tradition. Frankly, I was assuming there wouldn't be many folks eating at that hour but by the time we received our meals the restaurant was nearly full. Bice offers several lovely seating options including an elegant dining room with white tablecloths, sparkling glassware and walls of mirrors. There is a bustling Bar and Lounge which included live entertainment and an inviting outdoor terrace where you can enjoy your meal al fresco protected by a large awning to shield you from the sun. Oh, of course I checked out the Ladies room which was in perfect shape. We were seated in the main dining room and loved the ambiance, especially the Gentlemen servers who were wearing white shirts with black ties and crisp white jackets. A very European touch! Our server Goce was excellent, offering suggestions and checking on us often to be sure everything was just right. The overflowing bread basket arrived as soon as we were seated; it was full of assorted fresh breads with a delicious side of unsalted whipped butter and rich olive oil for dipping. We all ordered cocktails including a tasty Sangria, a Moscow Mule, a generous pour of the House Cabernet Sauvignon for only $5 and to stick with the program, I had a Peach Bellini instead of my usual Belvedere Martini; it was actually a delightful diversion. The Early Dining Menu offers a robust selection of appetizers and entrees, all at 50% off Bice's regular menu prices. Our appetizers included Caesar Salads for $7.50 and the flash fried Calamari with prawns, zucchini and tomato sauce for $11. For our main course, three of us ordered the Lasagna for $12 (no, I'm not dyslexic and that's not a typo!) it was huge, cheesy, creamy and delicious, we ordered a little extra sauce on the side just to enhance it. My Husband had the Chicken Parmiggiana with spaghetti ($17.50) which was so large he brought some home for a late night snack. Other tempting menu choices included Grilled Mediterranean Branzino for $24 and Ravioli Di Manzo with braised beef, veal, spinach, truffle oil and creamy mushroom sauce for $14. We seriously couldn't believe the discounted prices, considering a McDonald's Big Mac combo is now $18! Our friends suggested we end the meal with dessert at "The French" right across the street where they introduced us to the deliciously decadent Chocolate Soufflé! It's a toasty warm, chocolate flavor bomb dusted with powdered sugar; the protocol is to poke a hole in the top and pour in the scrumptious vanilla cream sauce making a veritable volcano of sweet satisfaction! It does take the Chef twenty minutes to create this little masterpiece, but we had no problem passing the time watching the 5th Avenue world go by and sipping some Cappuccino while we waited. It was so much fun to share a "Sunday Supper" at Bice with our lovely friends on a glorious sunny day in Naples. We had to laugh at how inexpensive our meals were; proving beyond a shadow of a doubt, you can definitely enjoy a wonderful dining experience on 5th Avenue without breaking the bank! read more

The absolute BEST gnocchi I've ever had in my life, and I've had quite a bit of gnocchi--and Italian pasta, for that matter. The ambiance is so very nice. Not too stuffy or dark, it's fine to bring kids because they accommodate. My kids ate all their food--a feat to remember lol! I love the Bellini drink. I usually only have one drink with dinner (or none at all)... well, I had TWO! And I would've had three, but I didn't want to embarrass myself! We had a few of the appetizers, including calamari and tartars. The tiramisu and chocolate soufflé are incredible, you won't be disappointed!!! read more

I've been coming to this restaurant every time I pass through Naples and stop by for their happy hour for lunch from 3-5 and it never disappoints. However, this time around maybe since the hurricane they haven't gotten everything completely back to normal but the branzino was fishy the second it reached our table, we just let the waiter know at the end of our meal. The pappardelle continues to be the most consistent and delicious item on their menu. And honestly you can't beat 5$ Pinot with a plate of homemade pasta. Their live music also takes it up a notch and I think it's the same man everytime with such a soothing voice and amazing guitar skills. read more

I like that the restaurant does not close midday as I enjoy late lunch/early supper. At first, I was their only customer in the very stately Italian style "glamour" diningroom. Unfortunately, I smelled (offputting) mold & mildew right away. Don't know if that's remnants of Ian or the fact they keep their doors open to the 105o "feels like" afternoons. It was comfortable temp-wise inside. I ordered soup (minestrone) and dessert (tiramisu, made in house). My server was initially efficient with setting table, bringing water, taking my order. She disappeared for refills and check at meal's end. I found the $15 GF vegetable minestrone very watery and flavorless (like the broth had not cooked, seasoned long enough to present the Italian flavors vividly). Then I mixed in the basil pesto "pool" topping the dish and the soup perked up immensely. The tiramisu was a very large piece, enjoyably creamy, using real lady fingers in the dish, but had very little coffee flavor. I still enjoyed the treat. With these 2 items the bill was about $30 minus 20% they remove for early dining (nice surprise). With so low clientele the staff was more social and less professional. A manager came and asked a male host to quit leaning while he waited for business. Two at a time (servers) would go in the wine closet for private chats. My 3 stars was for the feeling that I was ignored, the only average flavors, the odor of mildew....things that keep me from feeling this was a "stellar" experience along 5th Avenue. I would return for a full meal some time and see if the experience changed. read more

Wow! Naples truly has delicious food and great happy hour options! I've heard good things about BICE (although mixed pronunciations) and was glad to try out their happy hour! I don't know if this was just for the office season, but their happy hour deal from 3:00pm to 4:45pm is 50% off food and $5 house drinks. This includes their sangria, which I highly recommend! I ordered the Risotto Milanese, because I'm a sucker for risotto! But others order the linguine clams and the salmon scaloppine. Everyone loved their dish. The risotto was flavorful, the pasta was al dente, and the salmon was cooked perfectly! And capped the night off by ordering dessert. The Frutti di Bosco con Zabaione sounded like a good option to counter act the sweltering summer heat and humidity and it was refreshing and not too heavy. Don't forget to check in on Yelp for 10% off the regular menu! Overall, truly can't say enough about this place. I will definitely be visiting again. read more

BICE in Naples is a place to visit! We always come and enjoy the authentic Italian cuisine and vibes. Service could have been more attentive specially for a slow night in our last visit but the minestrone soup, ossobucco and truffle risotto was top notch. This is always been one of my favorite restaurants but just had a terrible meal. Ordered the Bolognese. Terrible! Tasted like it was from a jar. Barely had any meat in the sauce, and the sauce was very thin and runny. They were also out of the wine we wanted. A disappointed evening. read more

Then after we decided it was okay and didn't even mention the missing dish... a bald headed man came over and told us we had to leave because they had a big reservation coming. My friend suggested going to Bice for dinner last night and i told her no. After i told her the story of why I didn't want to go there she encouraged me to write a review so others could know what happened the last time i had dinner there. On 10/8/23 my fiancé and i went there for dinner. I had been there before and loved the restaurant! It was his first time. After getting our drinks and appetizer we noticed our server always checking in on the other table he had. Which was two older white couples double date. That's fine and all, but we continually had to ask other servers to get our server for us, or for ice, another bottle water, to order our dinner etc. my fiancé is black and we are a younger couple. We definitely noticed the difference in treatment our server gave to us and to his other table. When we finally got our dinner (i had the sea bass and spinach) my spinach was swimming in oil. It was so oily it was going all over the plate. I tried to eat some but it was just too much. I asked our server if i could have some different spinach without so much oil. He went back and forth arguing with me him="that's the way they make it" Me= "ok can you please ask them to make it with less oil" Him="that's the way it comes" Me="ok can I please get it a different way? I can't eat it like this its too oily" Him= "I've worked in fine dining for many year i know what I'm talking about" My fiancé could see the guy treating me so poorly so he just interrupted the guy and said "sir she would like some new spinach that doesn't have so much oil in it" The server rolled his eyes and said "ill see what i can do" We were both so insulted by the "fine dining" comment. He made us feel like we have never eaten at a nice restaurant before in our lives. My fiancé is a professional athlete and we experience fine dining very very often. This was also the last date we would be having for a while bc he was about to leave to play games out of town.! The server was gone for a long time so we figured he wasn't going to change it so i just ate my fish. (By this time the fish was swimming in oil too bc it all ran off from the spinach) i kept having to mop it off the plate with my napkin. During this time again we were having to flag down other servers for things like more wine etc. finally, after we've finished our meal..our server appears back to the table with a huge bowl of spinach. We are like um ok thank you? We didn't even know he was bringing some. He never came back to our table after he said "ill see what i can do" We were very ready to just ignore him but He started to make some comments again. And AGAIN starts going back and forth with me about how it's not supposed to be cooked this way and bla bla. He was making us feel so insulted we asked for the manager. He refused to get her the first time we asked. "No you don't want to do that over this trust me I've worked in fine dining for years" i cut him off several times to ask for the manager. Finally he went to get her. About 15 minutes passes by. We have to ask another server to get the manager for us! Finally she comes out. She said "sorry i took so long. I was in the middle of something on the computer" WOW. If you ever want to make your customer feel unimportant and unappreciated, then you should definitely take lessons from this manager. She immediately made us feel like we were a complete bother to her during her computer time. I started to tell her the story of how we were being treated and she cut me off and said "i know what will make this all better....ill give you 50%off your meal" she did not even let me finish talking! I said "ma'am we are not out here trying to get free food! We are very upset about how we've been treated!" THEN she said "wait one minute ill be right back" She came back with our bill with 50% off and also a gift card for $50 We were so insulted. We threw the gift card away and also warned our other black mlb friends who live in the area. We will NEVER be back there. For being a first time customer at Bice my experience was unpleasant. The host had a bad attitude and was rude. When my spouse thanked him for seating us we were not even acknowledged. The server seemed polite, however we were not familiar with the menu and it really put a bad taste in our mouths when a table got seated next to us and our server had gone over the specials with them and didn't do the same for us. On top of not stopping by and checking in, we had to wait a hot minute to get checked out to leave. We were stuck there way longer than we needed to be. The food was decent at best. For $187.42 bill my experience was sub-par and not what you would expect from a restaurant on 5th avenue. read more

We have been to Bice many times over the years and it never disappoints us. Their happy hour is fantastic. Tonight we had the calamari, zucchini and shrimp appetizer and the chicken parmesan and risotto verdi entrees.The chicken parm was delicious. It was so large that we will have it for another meal. My husband enjoyed the risotto. Our waiter Francesco always makes the evening enjoyable. We were lucky to have him serve us again. We are hoping they have the cooking show dinners as they've had in the past, and we will keep watch for any notifications. read more

Had the worst experience there. Took my girlfriend there for her 30th birthday and our server Francesco was incredibly rude. He had an attitude for the entire brunch, made rude remarks and would purposely ignore us. One of our party members kindly asked for a refill after having an empty glass for about 10 minutes and he said "I need you to relax, it's a long morning ahead". We had a large party with multiple split checks, and he even discussed what people tipped him with other members of the party shaming them if he didn't get over 20%. Excellent service and food! We went at 3:00 for happy hour (1/2 price all menu items). Our waitress was very attentive, friendly and professional. We ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer which was crispy and delicious. The gnocchis, ordered as a main course, were done to perfection. The lobster salad was refreshing with just the right amount of dressing. The butter served with the bread had some amazing flavors. At 4:00 the restaurant's outside seating was filling up so we didn't stay for dessert. I wish the outside tables weren't so close considering COVID. The food was as good as any run-of-the-mill Italian American restraunt, with a small variety of options. The ambiance was nice but the feel of the restraunt was noisy. However, the service was absolutely terrible. The servers had poor memory on the specials and declined multiple of our guests for alcohol who were well older than twenty one. This greatly prevented the enjoyment of our meals and overall gave us a petty feeling all throughout waiting on our food. I wouldn't recommend this restraint to anyone who isn't visibly older than thirty five. Very disappointing. read more

The food from the brunch was horrible and the service couldnt be worse. They have certain rules for you to get the brunch (the one you pay for, by the way)... this is laughable. You have to eat the food you order regardless of the quality, taste, temperature, and presentation before ordering you next plate...And dont dare to tell them something you dont like, because the server will not hesitate to give you an attitude and recite you again the rules of the brunch...LOL... This is a third world cafeteria, including the servers, with a prime location in Naples. We presented to the check in stand, and a gentleman stated we could sit where ever we like, but if we wanted happy hour prices, we would have to wait 15 min to be served. We agreed. At 3, the place began to fill up, a new hostess seem unpleased that we were already seated, we declared that the gentleman in charge told us to sit anywhere, and she begrudgingly gave us some menus. Terrible quality control at this restaurant. It was very busy due to 50% off entire menu all day. The hostess gave our table to another couple and when we inquired her response was "how am I supposed to know who you are?" Well, isn't that your job? The maitre d was also not helpful either and when we mentioned our situation to the server her response was " you shouldn't have stayed at the restaurant if you weren't happy". Not one apology. The cold salads were served on warm plates. The pasta was sticky and bland. The staff were slamming utensils and plates on the service area making the poor woman seated next to it jump in her seat each time. PLEASE open a Location in Miami! My mother lives in Naples, and every time I visit her (few times a month) Bice is a MUST! I love everything about this restaurant. They are located on 5th ave. A cute, trendy area to shop and dine. Plenty of street parking. The service here is always spectacular and the food NEVER disappoints. You can taste the quality ingredients in everything down to the bread. They make a mascarpone cheese spread to put on bread. It's heaven on earth. A few of my favorites: -Burrata and prosciutto is a must -Salmon & Risotto -Pasta Alfredo (Not on menu, can ask for it custom) -Pasta Bolognese The best part is they do happy hour! We always receive 50% off, if we arrive before 4:30pm. Can't beat the prices for quality food & drinks.
