I love BHV!! We've tried a few places for daycare/boarding and they're all good. What sets BHV apart is they are open until 8PM during the week. This is a huge benefit to us as we work west coast hours. In addition, the staff is friendly, the company has been around for a while, they know us and Wylie by name and our boys comes back tired and happy. Prices are in line, but a little on the higher side - worth it for us though. I love how they post daily pics on Facebook so we can see our boy, and other dogs, in action! BHV is the best! I have been taking my furkids there for three years. They are excited when they get dropped off and tired when they get home! Made a surprise visit to check the place out and was extremely disappointed. During my tour of the facility I noticed "daycare" animals in collapsible cages against the walls, the smell was ghastly and had been so for quite some time, there is absolutely no grassy area only pea gravel for the animals to walk, play, or utilize. The kennels are cramped and each one we passed was dirty. I wouldn't use this pet boarding/sitting establishment. read more

I started BHV with my first dog that has been a member of my family for 12 years, he is not an easy customer but loves BHV and amazing to me the employees at BHV love him back, unconditionally ( which is key with Jack) . My second pup is also a tough customer, she is very timid, she adores all the employees at BHV and has always been comfortable with everyone ( that is a testimony in itself). My third baby i actually adopted from BHV ( they foster pups from local rescue groups). Everyone that works at BHV is a dog lover!!! The way i am a dog lover, which is very important to me. I started with BHV ( a recommendation from a good friend) and have recommended their facility too many of my own clients. My dog Lucy Louise loves coming here! The staff is wonderful and loving. I like how play time is supervised with lots of rest time in between. It's low stress for everyone and best part they have pickup going to 8pm. The only item I wish they would offer is drop off starting at 7am. Otherwise it's very good! read more

Our dogs always seem well-cared for here and they are happy to go visit the other pups at Barking Hound. The staff is friendly, the accommodations are clean and roomy, and they provide TONS of outdoor play time. In contrast to another review I saw, I am actually surprised at how accommodating the staff is with our sometimes unruly dogs. We have two lab mixes who can be troublemakers around other dogs. They don't fight or do anything to harm other dogs, but can sometimes be relentless barkers/pot-stirrers at the dog park. Barking Hound gives us reports on their behavior when we pick up our dogs, and will even give them private time in the play yard if they need to calm down from the stimulation. When our dogs were puppies, one of them even chewed up the drywall in her kennel area, and BH didn't even charge us for the damage...and even allowed our dogs to keep coming back! Overall, great place to board your dog. They are in good hands here, and your dog will be in good spirits when you pick them up :) read more

Been a customer here for years. When we adopt a new dog they ask of his temperament. I am punished for being honest that he is not perfect and am referred elsewhere. If your dog is not easy to take care of it then they don't want to do the job, must be nice to pick and choose this way! read more

My boyfriend and I take our dog to BHV on a weekly basis. The staff is super laid back and friendly. They know our pup by name and are always really excited to see her. As soon as we pull up she starts getting excited, then basically drags me up to the door, so I'm guessing she likes it. Also, she is an extremely high-energy dog, and I am always pleasantly surprised that she is somewhat tired when she gets home from daycare! Good prices & good people! read more

First time ever writing a review. I understand that people have bad days and bad experiences but I've been using BHV for several months now and they've been absolutely wonderful. The staff are conscientious and enthusiastic about their work and that can't always be easy with so many barking dogs to care for! I'm not thrilled to have to bring my dog to a daycare to begin with and feel guilty that I can't spend the kind of time with him that I'd like to some days. Having said that, I think these guys combine just the right amount of laid-back, sensible, and professional. They know the personalities of the dogs, are always ready to listen to your concerns and/or requirements and do their best with the space available. I can tell my dog loves the place because he pretty much bounds out of the car and races for the door every time I take him for a day. We've also run into a number of BHV regulars at Redbud and they play well together even outside the daycare setting. Whenever I go, I see nothing but happy well-adjusted dogs (with the occasional diva!) and decent owners. For location, level of care, convenience, hours, etc...this has my vote as one of the best places in Austin. I recently boarded my dog over the weekend - his first time boarding. He had a wonderful time and I couldn't be happier with these guys for the quality of their daycare. read more

We have used Barking Hound for years! Frankie and Dodger love it. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. My "babies" are always happy to stay here! Frankie is a 1 year old 75 lb Doberman with more energy than we know what to do with. He is a huge handful but the staff is always ready to assist me when I am trying to get him politely in the door lol. Dodger is an old and manageable weinie dog. Not a lot of effort has to be made to handle him I admit, but they handle Frankie and all of his crazy energy really well! Safety is a top concern with the staff you have to bring your kiddos for a day of "day care" to try it out and make sure your kiddo gets along with all the other kiddos lol. I really like knowing they are taking that extra step and I wont be boarding my dog with some aggressive really out of control dogs. I cant reccomend enough you giving Barking Hound a try. We have always been extremely pleased and found the staff quite cheerful. read more

I take my small dog, Harvey, to Barking Hound daily for day care while I'm at work. No leash required upon drop off (even for my dog with separation anxiety) because he runs right in and doesn't look back. He's happy and well taken care of every day. If he ever has any issues (like a slight upset tummy), they call to let me know or tell me when I pick him up. They know and greet almost every dog & human by name. You know a place is great when you see the same people every single day picking up and dropping off their dogs. As for other reviews claiming their dogs got sick, that's the same risk you take anywhere that there are a bunch of dogs in the same space (same goes for children). It's ultimately the owner's responsibility for making sure they're vaccinated and taking the best precautions you can against illness. Once again, I love the Barking Hound staff and how happy my dog is there. It's a routine for us now, but I wouldn't have it any other way! read more

I travel a lot and have been taking our dogs to BHV for years. I cant take them anywhere else. I never have to worry about my dogs being well taken care of. My dogs actually love going there. The people there are very nice and love dogs, but my dog doesn't like staying there. Ironically, she is a barking hound herself (a treeing walker coonhound). The first couple of times, she liked it. The next couple of times, she acted like she had been in prison. I just got her back last night and she had a hoarse voice (which she has never had in her whole life), the front of her neck was rubbed raw and she was very hungry. After talking to Vanessa from Barking Hound Village, it seems like the mayhem from ACL was likely a contributing factor to her poor experience. read more

I've been a loyal BHV customer since 2003 - almost a decade. And I've recommended BHV to all of my friends with dogs. WHY? Because when I adopted a rescue dog in 2003 who was crazy, undisciplined and hyper, Barking Hound was there for me. I started sending my dog there for doggie daycare because walking him twice a day for 2 miles wasn't enough. The staff was so friendly and welcoming to him - despite the fact that he sometimes was a lot to handle. He always came home happy and tired. Through lots of love and training he has become a loyal and loving family dog. Since the beginning one of the staff who is now manager - Vanessa - has been a champion for my dog when other kennels wouldn't take him. And I feel like they don't just take great care of my dog - but of my family as well. My youngest child likes to go in the kennels to see all the dogs and make sure ours is happy when we leave on vacation and they always make time for him and make us feel welcome. Recently we were moving and needed to get our dog into daycare to avoid the chaos of the move. I didn't have a reservation and it was a busy time but Vanessa found a space for him since I've been a regular customer. I can't say enough about our "extended family" at BHV. I don't know what I would do without them. read more
