First time back since the remodel and have to say I was impressed! Definitely missed their pretty outdoor patio which is currently not available but the interior has a beautiful new look and was perfect for lunch. They have also revamped the menu and though some old favorites are missing - we enjoyed what we tried - namely the grilled artichokes which are a slightly different recipe to what was previously on their menu but absolutely delicious with that same wood-fired taste and accompanied by two dipping sauces that was fantastic. Also had the artichoke dip which was also really good with lots of chunks of artichoke! The only thing that was unnecessary was the sour cream - unless the intent was to mix into the dip and salsa which did not really go - the dip itself was fine and stood out on its own. Ambiance is beautiful... think hunting lounge. Warm, inviting, soft green and wood decor... whoever designed did an amazing job. 5 star Service is also very attentive without being intrusive. The staff work well together to make a very enjoyable experience. Food ummmm... not as good as previous years. Not bad, just very limited. There are 3 or 4xs of drinks over the food menu. While nothing was bad, it definitely wasn't exciting. Artichoke & spinach dip was very good, but served with chips, sour cream & salsa....was just very odd. Corn croquettes were also tasty, 5 little balls with a plate full of roasted chillies... again...a bit odd. Burger.. something different next time. Salad... this was the prettiest item ordered. This location used to be known as Bounty Hunter, just like its sister restaurant in Napa. Unfortunately this BH location had a fire some time ago and was subsequently closed down for awhile. When they reopened, it was under the same ownership, but under a different name, and with some very welcome improvements. For one thing, the animal heads on the walls were taken down. Thank you. I hope the Napa location follows suit, if it hasn't already. The menu is less meat-centric, although there are still plenty of options for the carnivores. We've enjoyed the trout here, and the globe artichokes are a must. On our most recent visit we became acquainted with Theo who works the bar, and he is an absolute pleasure to talk to. Like many places in Walnut Creek, it is a bit of a cougar hunting ground, so ladies be wary of leaving your men unsupervised here. I said what I said. Dropped in here for a second time after the fire. Was a little confused since it was called Bounty Hunter and reopened as BH Wood Fired Grill. Same ownership. We've been to the one in Napa multiple times with the BBQ forward menu and animal heads on the wall. I think this was the same here prior to the relaunch as BH. I think the animal heads didnt dance well in the DubC. Anyway, 2nd time in we sat at the bar and had some snacks and chatted with the bartender. Very nice guy. Drinks were great. Service was great. My fiancé and I were in the Walnut Creek area and came across BH wood fire grill, and immediately caught our attention. We arrived around 1 o'clock with a party of 2+ a stroller and there was no wait for us to be seated. Once you walk in you'll notice a grand circular bar with a stunning open floor entryway. The restaurant offers many styles of seating arrangements with intimate style booths, and open tables in the middle. I can see the restaurant hosting an array of different occasions with its trendy, yet casual vibe. For my drinks, I ordered the dawn of time as my starter drink and a Lindsay wildlife as my meal drink. The dawn of time was the perfect drink to introduce the food that was to come with its coffee bean flavor, and hint of chocolate bitters. The Lindsay wildlife kind of gave me a nostalgic feeling with it tasting like a Sobe tea drink (iykyk). 10/10 recommend it for a delicious, not too strong yet refreshing whiskey drink. Huge props to the bartender Joann for making such amazing beverages. For appetizers, we ordered the grilled globe artichokes, and the shrimp louie lettuce cups. The artichokes come with 3 half slices with saffron aïoli and romesco sauce. The artichokes tasted amazing with its grilled aroma and slightly burned and tender texture. The lettuce cups were super refreshing and the BH sauce mixed with a dash of tobasco was the perfect addition to each bite, not to mention the fresh and soft shrimp. For my entrée I ordered the creekstone ribeye, which is a 14 ounce cut with greens. I ended up substituting the summer beans with grilled asparagus. The entrée came out at perfect timing after our starters were finished. The ribeye was cooked perfectly and had a smoky grilled aroma to it. The garlic butter and red wine sauce was a nice added bonus packed with tons of flavor. We surprisingly saved enough room for little dessert so we ordered milk and cookies. This wasn't your average milk and cookies; the milk had a semi-thick consistency with a full top and dipping the crispy cookie with gooey chocolate bits in it was heavenly. We met the general manager, Jason who was extremely welcoming and accommodating. 10 out of 10 recommend trying this restaurant if you're visiting the Walnut Creek area after a afternoon or evening of shopping. Came here for dinner with girlfriends a few weeks ago. We ordered a bunch of salads and apps to share. Everything we ordered was delicious. The salads are massive. The Asian noodle salad may have been my favorite, but the chicken kale and seared ahi salads were also dang good. The cocktails are so tasty and beautiful. This is my love language. Highly recommend the Public Market. We also got a round of espresso martinis that were perfect - not too sweet. I stopped by today solo after some shopping and was very pleasantly surprised to learn that they have a happy hour 7 days a week, which includes many of their signature cocktails for $10! I've been here twice now. It's super cute inside, and the vibes are always good. The first time, I came for a girls lunch with my sister and cousin. Everything was good. Drinks were tasty and the food was enjoyable. The second time I came with my husband, dad, and stepmom. We sat at a booth in the bar area which was totally fine with us. The one thing I will say that put a big damper on the dinner was that the staff was weirdly too attentive. They came to our table constantly, and seemed to hang around too long. It wasn't just our waitress either, it was three different people, one was the bartender and the other a manager. But in the meantime, our drinks took forever. A second round was ordered right after we ordered food and didn't arrive until after we were all finished with our meals. One of the staff members that came over to check on us and fill waters was the bartender which would explain why drinks weren't coming out quickly. One was just a glass of wine so that should've been very quick. But anyway, we were all a bit bothered by the constant hovering. For food, my husband loved his French dip. He said it was really good, super flavorful. I had a burger which was decent. My stepmom had a veggie burger that she said was good. My dad ordered the ribs and said they were "alright". My friend and I stopped by here while wandering around downtown Walnut Creek. Neither of us had been there before. The ambiance was low key and dark. We sat down and ordered drinks and some food. The waitress was so kind and attentive. She helped us pick something's and stayed close refilling our water and checking in religiously as the restaurant filled in. The decor was warm and inviting. I've been here a few times, they changes it up a little from last time. The menu was different, but the food was still awesome! Service was also great. The room was still pretty much the same except they got rid of the walk through wine and liquid store. Here's what we tried: Grilled Artichoke (4 Stars) It was perfectly prepared, seasoned and cooked. Then grilled to give it smokey flavor. Served with grilled half lemon and 2 sauces, lemon aioli and remoulade. Shrimp Louie Lettuce Cups (5 Stars) The shrimp were perfectly cooked, chilled, then served on a lettuce cup with hard boiled egg slices, pickled red onions and a beautifully made Louie dressing. So good! Focaccia (3.5 Stars) Not really focaccia, but still good. It was cooked in a small cast iron skillet, made for corn bread. They serve with burrata and sun-dried tomato sauce. The bread had a nice crust and texture inside. Pork Chops (5 Stars) One of the best pork chops I've had, not sure if it was reverse seared or sous vide then grilled but it was so tender inside, but with great smokey flavor from the grill. Brussel Sprouts (5 Stars) The pork chop came with a side dish, I picked brussel sprouts not knowing how awesome it was going to be. The brussel sprouts were roasted, then mixed with some lemon sauce and cheese, I think. I wish I cook tell what they did. I'll have to go back to try to figure it out. Filet Mignon (3 Stars) It was ok, nothing special. The meat quality was good and cooked to order perfectly. The brown sauce was really good too. However I'm not fan of tarragon and it was in a sauce on the plate, so I think I'm down grading to 3 stars, sorry. Puree Potato (3 Stars) nothing special, it was good, season well, very smooth, but nothing unique. The dessert menu had no chocolate that night, wrong move. We shared the Tuna Poke (so fresh and the Wasabi cream the perfect touch) and Roasted Cauliflower (with some crispy brussel leaves and onion), I had the Smoked Brisket plate and subbed the fries for a salad. My colleague had the Shrimp and Grits (no Pic). Add in a nice martini, and they understand what extra olives means! I have been so bummed out that this restaurant has been closed since our first visit. Bounty Hunter (previously a Tommy Bahamas) shares a seating section with Va De Vi next door. The honey and I stopped in for breakfast looking for an alternative to Main Street Kitchen and absolutely loved their food. My potatoes with egg whites were delicious and I enjoyed the side of brisket - which was served on the drier side, not wet. The service was friendly and warm and we had planned to come back, however they've been closed due to mechanical issues/ renovations for several weeks at this point. The entire experience from entry to exit was great! Service was really nice, warm and inviting. Look and feel of the restaurant was really nice. For apps we had the carpaccio and the zucchini fries. Both delicious. For entrees I had one of the best pork chops I've ever had! Juicy, crispy and very well seasoned side crust. Fries were crispy and flavorful. It was not worth it at all for the food we got and the quality. That's also an incredibly high bill for three entrees, one appetizer and only one drink. Two people had water...can't imagine the bill if we all had drinks and dessert. If the quality had been great, it would have been worth it. The fact that they charge such exorbitant prices, but the food quality is like a tv dinner makes it hard to justify. -buttermilk fried chicken appetizer: the chicken was tasty with the ranch, even though it was sometimes hard to cut because it was extremely hard and stringy. Some parts were also soggy because they decided to dump a bunch of wet pickled vegetables on top of the chicken. It would have been better with the picked vegetables on the side. -2 orders shrimp and grits: overly spicy sauce, large chunky and unseasoned grits, and overcooked shrimp. The shrimp was absolutely hard and rubbery. -grilled branzino with bean ragu: the fish was overcooked and dry and the beans were tasteless. It really hurt to see this was a 38 dollar dish. I wouldn't be surprised if you told me that the fish had been cooked the day before and just microwaved prior to serving. That's how dry, hard, and tasteless it was. I would definitely give 10 stars for service!! The hostess, our server, and the assistant server were absolutely amazing. They were rockstars...so hardworking, attentive, sweet, and handled everything with a smile and care. Even though the food was terrible, we still left a 22% tip. They were absolutely lovely and constantly on the go handling so many tables, and many full of large parties(8+). I am only willing to give this place a shot again because of our servers and the hostess. I think next time we might do lunch to see if the quality improves. However, we aren't itching to go back any time soon because the food was just so horrendous. The prices just don't match up to what you get. This restaurant is in downtown Walnut Creek. There is bank close by which has a pay parking lot after the bank closes. The atmosphere is better than average with indoor or outdoor seating. We went at the beginning of the evening so it was empty. The brisket was ok, but not great. The Cole slaw that came with it was on the sweet side. My wife got the chicken but it was not fully cooked. They took it back and butterflied it and cooked it. The second cooking turned the chicken a little dry so the dish was kind of a bust. We should've asked for a refund, but they also should have suggested it since they knew that she was not happy with it. Another in our party ordered a burger which was ok, but had my daughter lamenting that Shake Shack across the street had a better burger. It gives upscale rustic and is spacious, yet cozy. The staff was welcoming and very friendly. We had a reservation so we were seated right away. I ordered: - Hamachi (I love all things crudo, especially yellowtail, so I enjoyed this) - Fried Calamari - Chicken Stacker (pulled chicken smothered in bbq sauce; messy and delicious) - Shrimp & Grits (fave of the day, super rich & flavorful, shrimp was seasoned well and wasn't over cooked; the bread was a nice touch because you could use it so soak up the 'gravy') - Cheesecake - Huckleberry Gin Cocktail (too sweet, couldn't taste the gin) I'll admit, ALL of our food was delicious!! The downside was the service. :( Our reservation was for 2:30PM. We arrived at 2:20PM and were promptly seated. Within 10 or so minutes we'd all placed our orders. My husband treated me for Mother's Day in his favorite spot in Walnut Creek. We did not have reservation,but came before they were open and were seated outside as we wished. They had a great brunch menu with vegan options, which I prefer. My daughter, who" were not hungry" gobbled up the French toast and asked for more. There have been many changes at Bounty Hunter, unfortunately not for the better IMHO. The food has honestly never been the reason to go - it's fine, but it has always just been a vehicle for the consumption of wine for us. The exception to this is their burger, which is actually quite good, though expensive at $22 (as of Feb 2024). "Wine is first at Bounty Hunter" is what the group says about themselves, and that was definitely true in the past. Recently, the selection, at least in Walnut Creek, has dwindled to ridiculous levels - there was no red Burgundy at all and only 2-3 bottles of white Burgundy total. They used to carry some older vintages of wines so you could actually enjoy some wines with bottle age, but not any longer - almost everything was current release or maybe 1-2 vintages back at most. Prices have also increased, especially on the BTG side and the selections are less inspired. It doesn't feel as if the owners/management are paying same level of attention to the food and especially the wines as the Napa location, and it's sad to see what used to be a decent place to grab a glass (or bottle) going down hill. read more

The ambience was pristine and inviting once I walked in. However, the hostess was not smiling when I looked over, so I actually thought she was sitting at the bar as a patron. It took a while before I realized she was probably the hostess since she was sitting on a single stool at a small kiosk. I began to walk toward her, and only then did she break out any smile. I thought this was a strange interaction in that most hostesses initiate the acknowledgment. I ordered the prime rib, but its visual appeal was inversely proportional to it's taste. Yeah, that's right; it looked great but tasted was terrible. In fact, it was the worst prime rib I've ever had. It was a tough, though sizable slab, which may not have been a positive since it meant more punishment on the jaw. It was the right degree of medium rare pink, I must say, but it was just such a struggle chewing it. Also the crust was overly salty. This was on par with those cheap prime rib dinners at Reno that they used to have to lure gamblers. Ok, I admit, my comparing it to the prime rib across the cal-nev border might be a disservice....to the Reno dinners. I mean really how is this worth nearly 60 credits? This might be a bigger robbery than a serious session on those slot machines. The accompaniments were equally lacking. The horseradish cream barely had any horseradish flavor. The au jus tasted like it was poured out of it supermarket carton. The mashed potatoes, er, excuse me, listed as potato puree, seemed to be rehydrated out of a box. And the roasted wild mushrooms had almost no infusion of flavor. But at least our waiter was great and responsive. Also, it was in the middle of the heat wave, so the AC was also a desperately needed plus, as outside, it was over 100°. These are what rescued Bounty Hunter from a one star. read more

We sat in one of the booths that was facing out, which kinda reminded me of those brasserie chairs where you look into the street. It was a little difficult it, and a lot drier than we had expected. Kinda wish they told us how to go about it because the grilled parts were a little too tough to chew. This was a mixed bag set of dishes. On the positive, the ahi poke and the green salad with a lemon vinaigrette were very good, the salad in particular. On the medium side - the calamari breading was under seasoned but the doctored tartare sauce was a great dipping sauce and that helped. On the negative, the miyagi oysters were shucked by someone who has never shucked oysters before. Shell pieces on every oyster - one was completely broken which the bartender replaced. Still...I think I'd pass on the oysters here for other Walnut Creek oyster options. The service was good not great - we ate at the bar on a Sunday but the bartender was hustling and very friendly but she was sort of single handed... it wasn't that busy inside. We took a walk to the patio and that looked very nice - some water features, very nice vibe. Inside was nice as well, sort of East Coast wood meets West Coast light and windows. I suppose we'd try it again and focus on the smoked dishes which seems to be their speciality based on the menu. I love a good bbq especially when it can stand on its own with no sauce!! Add in a robust whisky menu and a great downtown Walnut Creek venue and what else can you ask for? Sat at the bar ... second time there first time for food. read more

I wanted to like this place but the food just didn't hit the mark. I couldn't figure out what their specialty was, our waiter said they wanted to get more into steak but there's only a filet on the menu. The beer can chicken looked to be the main attraction but a little too daunting for me to order. The bbq is also strange... you can order the ribs by itself or have a combo platter where you choose from ribs, brisket, pulled pork, fried chicken, or pulled beer can chicken. We ended up getting a bbq combo with the ribs, brisket, and beer can chicken. I was surprised that the bbq is a big section of their menu but the items listed are a little bit of an afterthought. Brisket and pulled pork are usually a big task to do well. All the bbq except the ribs were very disappointing, with the pulled chicken and brisket extremely dry. The cornbread and coleslaw as sides were great. No complaints there, though the mac and cheese did not have much flavor despite feeling like 1000 calories. Apps were solid. Fried calamari was crispy and fresh and the Asian dipping sauce was really good. Burrata was a a little disappointing due to portion size and was not creamy but more solid like a moz.
