I was in town last week for a wedding and saw this place on social media, so I decided to check it…read moreout. I was the first to walk in around 4ish in the afternoon (they have happy hour!) and I was offered a seat and water quickly. I decided to order the smoked salmon crudo and the gentleman (I think one of the owners?) gave me some pairing suggestions. While that was getting prepared in the kitchen, he offered me a tasting of another white wine on the house, which was so kind! In the picture below... it's most drunk haha but it was a nice amount to taste and sip on. That smoked salmon crudo is SO GOOD. The citrus adds a nice brightness, and I think there was a hint of honey used in the vinaigrette. I was pleasantly surprised and it's easily the best smoked salmon dish I've had in a while! The wine was excellent as well. I was only in for about an hour, maybe an hour and a half before I moved on, but I got to hear regulars come in and greet the owner like old friends. There's a really cool vibe here, with great music and decor, so I really wished I lived closer to visit more often! As I was leaving, I did chat with the gentleman again (complimented him/the wine bar) and he said he hoped that I would come again as he is trying to work with his partners to add more to the menu (the regulars that came in were asking after the gumbo and the brunch, which they were not serving at the time). I definitely hope to visit again and try those other menu items!

The seating options were disappointing as the benches along the wall had no cushioning and the couch we selected instead had flat, sinking cushions. The music was too loud for reasonable discussion with my friend, though the server did lower the volume at my request. I had a tasty flight of sparkling wines and the server gave a speedy, short introduction to the pours. My largest disappointment came with the arrival of the check. Despite signage outside the establishment that implied the opposite, I was informed that wine flights were *not* included in happy hour pricing. I found the messaging exceedingly unclear, and of course, there's no mention of happy hour on the menu nor did the server share the happy hour options when we were seated. It was a disheartening end to a midling experience up until that point. It's not that this place is terrible, it's just not that good and in this economy, that is a must. I will not be returning.

We started with a Cacio e Pepe Biscuit and some wine. I was curious about the Spanish wines on their menu, so I decided to try all three, opting for the 3-oz pours instead of the 6-oz. We then shared the Beet Salad and Ceviche Tostadas. The salad combined golden beets, quinoa, and sherry vinaigrette, creating a delicious combination of flavors. The tostadas came with mahi-mahi, mango salsa, and avocado, and we both loved them. Unfortunately, I somehow lost the right to eat the third one to my wife! For our main courses, we ordered the Paella and Linguine Gamberi. The paella featured saffron rice, chorizo, shrimp, other seafood, and a few ingredients whose names I can't recall. The combination was excellent, and the Linguine Gamberi was equally delicious. After all that food, we somehow convinced ourselves we still had room for their Dessert for Two. It came with key lime pie and three other small desserts, all beautifully presented on a single plate. Finishing them proved more challenging than ordering them, but we managed to taste everything and even finish a couple! Throughout our meal, our server, whose name I unfortunately can't recall, was on top of her game. She was attentive, and our wine glasses were never empty for long. We never had to wait long before placing our next order. The rest of the staff were equally efficient, clearing our table promptly after each course. We enjoyed our comfortable indoor table, but I also noticed their lovely outdoor seating area, which looked like a wonderful place to relax on a nice day. With excellent food, attentive service, and a pleasant atmosphere, we had a thoroughly enjoyable first visit. Next time, I might save a little more room for dessert!

We went to the Rooftop restaurant in Walnut Creek for our anniversary. Originally we had…read morereservations at Va de Vi but it was packed and we would have been stuck sitting near the door. I'm so glad we ended up across the street. It's an open area restaurant with a very large wraparound bar and rooftop deck seating overlooking downtown. Despite it being windy and chilly, we didn't get cold at all. I regret not taking photos of the restaurant itself as the ambience was so unique. We ordered 3 appetizers and no mains. Fried calamari, heirloom tomatoes with burrata and roasted brussel sprouts. Calamari: batter was a bit darker than most I've had, but consistency and crispness the same. Don't know if they used extra paprika for the color. The calamari was tender and a good contrast to the batter. The real star was their tartar sauce which was so yummy we asked for more. Tomato salad: this dish was just about perfect. What you can't see well in the photo is the burrata sitting on a bed of pesto. The pesto is arugula-based, making it much milder and not so basil-forward, which we appreciated. Brussels sprouts: It's not the best we've had but I would still order it again, if nothing more than to get those insane bacon chunks that came with the vegetables. I had the spicy maracuya and hubby had the Irish goodbye as drinks. Both wonderfully done, but I especially liked the Irish goodbye which was their take on a manhattan - instead of bourbon they used whiskey, and threw in some green chartreuse along with the vermouth. We'll have to try to recreate this at home. Service was friendly, but the server didn't check up on us. They looked understaffed. All in all, we would be sure to go back, and drag some friends with us.

The whipped mascarpone needed salt, bad. Angel hair pasta lacked a lot of flavor, no depth, but presentation was good. The burger tasted like in n out... for $26, definitely would like it better in every way. The best thing was probably the drink. Fantastic drink. My friend tasted mine and ordered the same. The selection is the draw here. Whiskey lines the entire back wall, the rarer bottles sit behind wire-mesh locked cabinets, and there is a deep bench of tequila, beer on tap, and wine to round things out. One look at the shelves tells you they have the base for any drink you want. We split the Margherita flatbread, pesto, fresh mozzarella, and blistered cherry tomatoes, and it hit the spot as a drinking snack. The menu goes deeper than expected for a bar, with sliders, naan tacos, and charcuterie if you show up hungry. Service was good considering the staff-to-crowd ratio. Sevan stayed attentive the whole time and clearly knows his stuff. The vibe is chill and conversation-friendly, not too loud for the size of the room, with a bank of TVs toward the back if you want to catch a game. Logistics are easy. The bar sits a short walk from Pleasant Hill BART and parking in the area was no trouble. I've been a few times before and this visit confirmed why I keep coming back. They offer options of sitting at a table inside, at the bar, or at a table outside on the rooftop. Each has its own vibe. Since we were celebrating our anniversary, we opted to sit at a table inside. Pulpo Teleferic - This is def my fave pulpo dish in the Bay area. We order it every single time. The pulpo has a lovely char on the outside and the inside is as tender as it gets. While the octopus is the star of the show, the potato cream really sets this dish apart. It's so luscious and delicious that I'd order it as a separate dish if that were an option. We scooped up every last drop. Gambas Al Ajillo - The shrimp were jumbo, sweet and super fresh. They're served in a generous amount of garlicky olive oil and topped with garlic chips. Tip: if you're as eager to try bread dipped in the olive oil as we were, cleanse your palate first. Otherwise, it's hard to appreciate the subtle flavors of the garlicky shrimp infused olive oil. Wagyu Empanadas - This is the only dish we wouldn't order again. It was tasty, but for the price, I'd rather try a different dish next time. The wagyu filling was delish, but I didn't care for the oily looking fried wonton wrapper. The manchego chips were pretty, but I'd eat them separately. Otherwise, they fall off the empanada and the manchego flavor gets lost in the bite. Iberico Paella - Mixed feelings about this dish. I was super excited to try it after our waiter removed the cover with a flourish that accentuated its smokey, nutty scent. It was indeed very tasty, but the smokiness overshadowed any nutty flavor of the Iberico, which was the point. Also, the soccarrat we requested was completely missing. I still thought it was a good dish, but my husband would have preferred a paella with a balance of "surf" and "turf". We'll prob order a different paella next time. (We enjoy the Paella Negra more.) Barceloneta Sangria - I rarely drink, but after the manager poured a sample shot of this sangria into my mouth (yes, you read that right), I couldn't resist ordering a full glass. It was fruity, ice cold and a perfect contrast to the richness of the food. At the end of the meal, we were so stuffed that we were ready to take the check, but the waitress surprised us with an anniversary dessert. I couldn't hear what she said it was, but my favorite part was the nutella-like chocolate they wrote "happy anniversary" with. It was a fantastic end to a fantastic meal, and we'll definitely be back again!
