I've been ordering a lot of food from Uber Eats lately because of the quarantine. I pick a lot of restaurants I've never eaten at before... but so far I've been disappointed 60% of the time. However... my birthday rolls around and I really want poké. This is the only place I see on UE that has it and the picture looks good so why not? I also decided to order the gangnam bowl and a piece of mango mousse cake. Not only did every item I order taste amazing, but everything was put together beautifully (see photo). Ramen eggs are one of my favorite things and I can't tell you how perfect this one came out. I wish I was able to order a few more. This is honestly the best thing I've ordered so far. **Please note that this review is strictly for the dessert...will edit later to add in notes for the food items :)** For those who are fans of the green tea / matcha flavor, the desserts here are yummy and instagram worthy. Located in the former Italian restaurant, Beyond the Bowl is fairly easy to spot. If you can't find street parking in front, go to the back of the restaurant and you'll see plenty of spots. Dessert Options: Green Tea Lava Cake, Green Tea Animitsu, and the Pot / Plant dessert. Of the three, I went with the green tea lava cake and aiiiii, this was totally worth it. :) For the green tea lava cake, everything is made from scratch. So do expect to wait at least 20-30min. Once you get it, make sure to savor each bite that is full of chocolate richness, the slight bitterness of the matcha, and a refreshing lick of the green tea ice cream. I swear to you that you shall be in green tea bliss. For the side items, this dessert came with some fresh fruit and this really fresh mango like cake? Not sure what it was but it was definitely tasty. So so happy to find another yummy spot in the North end. Did I also mention how epic their poke bowls are? Boyfriend and I were trying to find a place nearby to grab dessert after dinner. I had seen pictures of the amazing desserts here before, so we decided to check it out. Street parking kind of sucks here. It's on a fairly busy street (Lake City Way). I'm not sure if there is a lot behind the restaurant (from other reviews, there are), so next time I'll def. head over there first. We got there around 8 pm on a Wednesday night, and there was only 2 other customers there. I wanted to try the green tea lava cake, but you have to wait 30 minutes for it to be made (it's made on order!) And since it was kind of late already, we decided to save it for another time. We both ordered The Pot. We sat down and they brought out our desserts to us. We were super surprise with how pretty it was. It seems that the accompanying side for the dessert changes, as we got another small square slice of the Japanese cheesecake with whipped cream and some fruit on top. The waiter explained to us how to eat it (which we needed), we "watered" our little plant in crushed Oreos/Japanese cheesecake with the royal milk tea. We didn't pour too much in at first so it wouldn't be soggy, but ended up using most of it. I loved the flavor of the royal milk tea, and the Japanese cheesecake had a nice texture to it, although the flavor was super light. Presentation was spot on. Service was super nice. Tan Tan sauce udon is very good. I came here based in a friend's recommendation. I had udon in Japan but could not find any place has decent udon. I also had Tan Tan noodle a traditional Chinese/Sichuanese dish, and the fusion Tan Tan ramen. I am curious about Tan Tan udon and this restaurant. It located on the busy Lake City Way near 125th. I was able to find off street parking easily on 125th after 6 PM. Restaurant is well lighted - almost too bright - and clean. Staff was friendly and attentive. I ordered chicken karaage or Japanese Fried Chicken on the menu and Tan Tan udon. Food came very quickly. Chicken karaage was darker than I expected but it was tasty. Tan Tan udon broth was tangy and slightly spicy. It has minced pork and pre marinated shitaki mushroom slices, an egg, and pink pickle ginger. Udon was cooked just right - not too soft - and coated with the broth. Each bite the udon with minced pork was a joy in the mouth. I highly recommend it! Recent update - I was right about this restaurant. They do care about the customer experience. I'm salivating thinking about the saku AAA. I hope they do get it back. Good luck! Update - Quality of fish has dropped and the amount served in a poke bowl is very inconsistent. The new hires need proper training. The only times I've been satisfied were when the owner ma the bowl herself. Our go to poke place in the Lake City area. The rice is always warm and the fish super fresh, well seasoned and tasty. The assortment of sides on the bowl are colorful, generous, and inviting. We got our first dessert the green tea affagado recently and it was delicious. The ingredients including the green tea we poured in top were delicious. The mochi balls were my least favorite, felt like I was chewing plastic. TLDR: get the mango topping! Get dessert! Raw fish proportions a bit small. Get the Udon! This place was previously Mo & Lu Pasta. Sad to see them go but this poke joint is a good replacement. Cafe-like setting with chill music in the background and pretty quiet atmosphere. Great place for quick grab and go or eat and engorge. All dinnerware is disposable. Street parking only. I know, I know, it sucks. Service: order and pay at the fronts, seat yourself, food delivered to you. Water dispenser is next to the register. Utensils, additional condiments, and napkins are to the left of the register. You can request ramen noodles instead of udon. Nikki Udon: so very flavorful and tasty! I'd say it's the best Udon I've had yet! The beef is thinly sliced and is sweet and salty--very tasty. Udon noodles are a nice texture too! Poke comes with: rice, mixed greens, imitation crab, seaweed salad, cucumbers, masago, fried shallots, edamame and nori. The rest is additional. (Update: toppings are now free unless marked otherwise). Salmon: cold and tender. Smaller chunks than I'm used to. Not as flavored by itself if you don't get sauce. The proportions are a bit small. One scoop didn't do it for me--I think the average person would need at least 2 scoops to be fully satiated. I ran out of fish before I got halfway through and basically ate salad on rice. Edamame: fresh and smooth--not old and wrinkled. They must have used Botox. ;) Mango: VERY good and I recommend you spend that extra 50 cents. But watch out for the spicy mayo sauce first! Fried shallots: add a nice crunch. Not too flavorful. More of a texture addition. Nori: very thin slices of nori that just seem to blend in. You don't really notice they are there when eating. Wasabi Tamari: wasabi burn is fully customizable. Just let the clerk know when you order. Tofu Miso Soup: not your typical Miso. It's a bit bland but lies true to its name--it has tofu. It's a good neutral flavor to go with your poke in my opinion but don't go ordering it if you crave miso soup. Modern Matcha Anmitsu: green tea ice cream was good and smooth. Not really a fan of the mochi though--wasn't gummy/chewy like typical mochi--was a bit on the hard side and you could just bite off a piece instead of having that satisfying tug of war chew. This dessert with the different cube jellos was a bit bland except for the tang of the strawberry and peach slices. This place is not bad, for the Northgate area. The portion was kind of small for the amount that I paid ($11 for two scoops of protein). While the toppings and base were plentiful, I felt like the scoops of fish was lacking (maybe 8-10 pieces total?) but there was a good amount of tako in my bowl. The tuna was lacking in flavor, but the tako made up for it. I actually enjoyed the seaweed salad as well - someone mentioned in their review that the seaweed salad didn't give off a fishy flavor which I totally agree with and that was a plus in my book. I probably would have given this place 3 stars for the food, but the customer service was great which made me bump it up a star. I requested no crab salad in my bowl and they offered to add more of another topping to my bowl which I thought was awesome. Any restaurant that takes shortcuts by using sukiyaki beef in udon does not care about quality or taste. The poke was ok except for the not so fresh pieces. And the rice was too hard, which made my stomach ache during and hours after. For $11.6 (tax and tips excluded): 2 scoops, white rice, ahi tuna and octopus, spicy ponzu, mango and corn. It also comes with crab salad, seaweed salad, masago, cucumber, edamame, and nori. The bowl is cleverly designed in the fact that the top is wide then progressively slims in. Granted, poke is kind of getting to be 'yesterday's news' in the culinary world, but Beyond the Bowl has plenty of other things going for it to ensure that it isn't a one-note fad. THE ROSES: Pleasant staff. Nice, super-clean dining space. Tasty offerings; it's clear they're using the freshest ingredients, and preparing them carefully. I had the 'Beyond the Udon Bowl'. This hearty beef udon bowl had just the right level of heat, and the udon noodles were of perfect texture. My wife had the two-protein poke bowl. She wouldn't share it with me, but the fact she darn near licked the bowl clean suggests to me that it was as good as it looked - and it looked pretty darn good! Prices on alcohol are very reasonable. THE THORNS: Parking can be a bit problematic on busy Lake City Way. THE VERDICT: BTB is may be a neighborhood joint, but it's got the culinary horsepower to attract foodies from all over the City. Definitely worth the visit. Strong recommend! read more

Okay, to be honest I was eager to come because I wanted to take photos of the desserts. Anyways, I recommend the Beyond the Bowl poke option --you can't go wrong with that. It's enough to share if both people aren't starving and there is a nice variety of everything. This is a random fact but there was a study done that tested fish samples from a number of restaurants and a large percentage were found to be a different fish than what restaurants claimed their dishes to be. Fortunately, the fish here appears to be fresh and legit (didn't get to test samples but the thought of whether my yellow tail really is yellowtail wasn't a concern). For dessert, we ordered: 1. The Pot: cute bowl of cake, topped with Oreo crumbs, a leaf of some sort. To the side is a bit of milk syrup (condensed milk?) and small pieces of mango cake 2. The Green Tea Lava Cake: it comes with the option of a scoop of vanilla or green tea ice cream. It also has a few small pieces of mango cake. The flower garnish on the desserts was cute! I didn't catch the waitress' name on Wednesday evening but she was great (repeated our order back to us, helped us with a group photo, provided helpful recommendations) Parking seems like it can be rough (street parking) and the place has some seating but considering how popular I feel it could be, I would imagine it could get packed quickly. I have a problem. I can't stop eating poke. We've ordered takeouts many times from here through Yelp. Their poke bowl is always so fresh and so good. The portion is big, they don't skimp on anything. Your poke bowl will come with crab salad, seaweed salad, cucumbers, masago, fried shallots, and nori; the other addons range between 50 cents to $1 extra. At first I found it odd cause I'm used to the addons being all free (except avocado) at other poke places, but typically the bite size is bigger here, not hamster bite-size like other places. But sometimes they have a promo like the first extra addon is free (unless you order through app). We always get the mango! It always adds juicier flavor to the proteins. But mind you that even without extra addons, the poke bowl is already plentiful. If you call for takeout, they would ask what time you'd come so your order would be fresh when you pick it up. We've tried their Mentai Cream Udon too, very creamy and flavorful. The Niku Udon is very good too, sweet and bursting with flavor. I like it a lot! Will have to try their drinks and desserts soon, they all look so good!! The place is clean, staffs are always friendly. This place is a hidden gem on LCW. Tan Tan Udon is off the heezy! The service is polite and prompt. It's clean inside and the food is always hot, and exactly the same every time. I had been craving udon since talking to a friend about it. I had a training session next door and was here early after looking at a jobsite for work. Originally came here thinking I would get poke but I personally am not a big fan of California style where they mix the sauce with the fish right before serving it to you. I like poke the Hawaiian way when it's been marinated for a bit. Also, they charge per topping I'm pretty much a purest so I wouldn't have gotten a lot of toppings anyway. This review is based on their desserts. Walked in one evening to order the matcha lava cake and 'the pot'. Unfortunately, they were out of the pot dessert, which I was a little sad about. None the less I ultimately was most excited for the matcha lava cake. I am a huge fan of anything matcha! They let us know it's about a 15-20 min wait since they make everything from scratch. The interior is a cute little cafe set up. They also serve poke bowls and udon noodles which looked delicious (will have to come back to try their food). The matcha cake came out beautifully decorated with a scoop of green tea icecream. The plate was lined with fresh strawberries, flowers, lemon cheesecake chunks, and some crushed oreos (to mimic soil). The appearance was really 10/10. I was so excited to take pictures. Upon breaking into the cake, bright green matcha ganache poured out. The cake was moist, warm, chocolaty and delicious. I was actually really surprised how good it was. Unfortunately for Beyond the Bowl, Seattle has started becoming a hub for poke places. I swear, I see almost a new one pop up every week! Maybe if this poke place was in Kentucky or somewhere in the mid U.S.A away from the Pacific Ocean, I would be able to give a better review. But unfortunately, poke restaurants are all over the place here in Seattle, and this one is definitely on the bottom tier. The fish is not as fresh as poke places such as Seattle Fish Guys. The bowl does not come with very many complimenting ingredients like they do at FOB poke. And the cohesiveness of the dish is lacking compared to poke champs like 45Th Stop n Shop. Overall, the poke here is very underwhelming in quality, taste, and execution. My friend ordered the udon and said that it didn't taste that great as well. It's too bad. I got take out and the Gangnam Bowl was good but I became uncomfortable when it became clear the cashier processing my order was sick (and unmasked). He coughed once and sniffled. I considered canceling my order but had already paid. I was masked myself and I confirmed he wouldn't be assembling my order. He should not have been working while sick and unmasked.
