I had Kung Pao Chicken, Crab Rangoon, Tom YumKha (came with lunch special), and Asparagus beef roll. The king Lao chicken was pretty good. The crab Rangoon had too little cream inside. It wasn't that good. I didn't like the Tom Yum Kha at all, I felt like drinking tamarind soup. It was bad. Not sure if it would be different if I ordered one entree for that. This place is a hidden gem. This is my 2nd day in a row coming here. The food is flavorful, fresh, and delicious and the prices are affordable. I could go to a Thai place near me but comparing the taste and prices, you can't beat Beyond Thai. I will keep coming back a couple times a week as long as they stay consistent with prices and food. Dined here for the first time and service was simply awful. Felt unwelcome the entire time. Really should have just left but kids were so hungry. The waitress didn't even look at us when seating us. Just motioned over to the table for us. Then rushed us in our ordering. And just plain made us feel unwanted. I will never return and I'll be sure to let everyone I know not to come here. The waitress did not bring us the correct order. When we told her, she blamed us! Saying, "I wrote the order in front of you and you're saying I got it wrong??!" wow im so mad at myself for not finding this place sooner. not only are they close, theyre awesome. now i dont have to drive all the way to evanston to get thai food. i ordered for the first time from here and i actually had it delivered. i got their : -basil chicken (kra pao) and customized it and they got it on point. -also, not every thai place has their traditional fried chicken wings. but Beyond Thai definitely does and they taste awesome. some places give it to you in a tasty spicy fish sauce. Beyond Thai gives you this equally delicious light sweet and sour sauce instead. i loved it and i normally don't even like sweet and sour. -i got my hunby basil fried rice, i havent eaten it so i cant rate it but it looks good. -also, if you purchase anything over $20 you get a free appetizer! i opted for the crab rangoon. they were these deliciously and perfectly fried flaky pieces of heaven. i love when my crab rangoon has a tiny hint of sweetness in it so all in all great dishes for terrific prices. the food came fast and it was fresh and hot. im definitely ordering from here again. read more

Excellent prices and wonderful owners. Tucked into a nondescript shopping center, the place is a bit of a dive, but it does have good food. I got a large Tom Kha soup with tofu and it was incredibly tasty. I read another Yelp review that said this was the best Tom Kha in Chicagoland, and I don't doubt it for a second. It had a light, creamy coconut broth that was both savory, a little sweet and limey. The lime chicken is another great hit. Lightly battered and fried, it's perfection on a bed of rice. If you've ever had walnut shrimp at Chinese restaurant, this dish is reminiscent of that. Finally, if you check in on Yelp, you get either a free Rangoon or edamame. I got the Rangoon which came with a sweet and sour chili sauce. Also very good. Delicious meal for under $17 and it took less than 10 minutes to place and receive my order. read more

BYOB is always a plus in my book. Especially when paired with delicious Tom Yum, Yum Nua (Beef Salad), Panang Curry, and Spicy Eggplant with beef. The sauce in the Eggplant was outstanding. I prefer my Panang curries a bit thicker, but this one was still very flavorful. Beef salad had more beef than Wendy's. Was very disappointed today. I have options when going for Thai food, and have been there before, so tried them again today. Things first starting going badly when I first called to place my pick up order. I was put on a fairly long hold. Then the lady asks if I was still there. When she finally started taking my order it seemed like she was distracted in talking to other people. I had to repeat things multiple times because she wasn't paying attention. She told me 20 min. I got to the restaurant 20 min later and walked up to the front desk and a lady was talking to herself while on the POS system. No one greeted me. About 5 min later a lady came out from the back and asked if I was here to pick up. I said yes. She said ok. (Did not greet me, did not ask for my name, order, or phone number). I sat down and waited, and waited, and waited. I finally realized that 15 min had past and still no food. I stood up and when another lady came out, I asked her about my order. She said, just a minute, almost done. I told her that they told me 20 min over the phone, and already we were at 38 min. She said that they were busy. I told her that they should explain that when I ordered, and/or to give me a more accurate estimate. She then asked if I wanted to go ahead and pay for my food. (The food I didn't have, and was still waiting for). She did not offer me a discount or to throw in something extra for the trouble. Finally I got my food 40 min after I had ordered it. You will notice, there were a series of issues here with "customer service". Oh, also, there was no sauce or cutlery or napkins in the bag. Prolly will not give them my business again. Beyond Thai just opened on Aug. 1 and used to be Thai Pavilion II. The new place has new owners and a new menu. Firstly, the food here is amazing. For $7.95, you get about two meals worth of food and they're not skimpy on the meat. I've already had the Pad Thai, the red curry, and the Thai spring rolls and all we're delicious. They also have a great lunch special. For $6.95 you get an appetizer, soup, and an entree. Thai Pavilion used to have a lunch buffet, but Beyond Thai's lunch special is just as great and you're still getting quite a bit of food for the price. The service is outstanding as well. They're very friendly and are more than willing to help you order if you're not that familiar with Thai food. Ordered form here once before, and my memory of details are hazy, but I'm sure I would have given it 3 stars. However, stopped by here FAMISHED the other night, and thought it was pretty darn good. The lowdown: Service - bad. The server was dour and kept coming back every 4 seconds to get our order - in a pushy way. But this is hardly a fancy place, and the service certainly wasn't slow, so whatever. There is an older lady that stopped by our table once (by the way, we were the only ones in there) and she seemed really nice. Crab Rangoon - great pastry on these tasty little bites. Small, creamy, yummy Curry Puffs - amazingly crumbly wonderful pastry covering a savory inside. I thought the inside could have been a LITTLE more interesting, but I can't really put my finger on how. Again, though, pastry is a tough thing to do, and this was perfection on the outside Basil chicken - no gristly parts, everything was fresh and crispy, sweet and savory. Good! This is the worst take out I've received in years. As a huge Thai fan I was looking forward to this meal. We ordered at 5:30 and our food ETA was 6:15. 6:30 rolls around and our food still isn't here. We call them and they promise it will be there by 7. We didn't get our food until 7:20. At this point, our food is lukewarm at best and the peanut sauce has settled due to being out so long. Even if it had been hot, the taste was very bland. I've been to many Thai places to varying degrees of deliciousness but this is leagues below any place I've ever been to. I would discourage anyone from ordering here. read more

I had just gotten out of work and the last thing I wanted to do was cook a meal. I scouted out local areas because it was a nice day and I thought I'd take myself out to dinner. I noticed Beyond Thai had 33 relatively decent reviews so I thought I'd give it a try. The food was nothing stellar. I'm used to eating at other Thai places where the portions seemed a little more generous. I had the Chicken Satay and the Panang Curry Chicken. The Satay was not as flavorful as what I've had at other restaurants. I ate them like people eat French fries in the car on the way home. Once I bit into the chicken, the flavor stopped. It seemed like all of the spicy sauce was just brushed over the meat. Clearly they weren't marinated. The Panang Curry had fresh green beans in it. Green beans are healthy and I was happy to eat them. I just kind of felt like they didn't belong in the dish. The other places I've been just stick to bell peppers. I was going to sit down and relax with my meal at the restaurant, but the moment I walked in I was overwhelmed by the foulest old building smell I think I have ever been immersed in since my last visit to my great uncle's house. It was so musty in there, I don't even know how anyone dining would be able to taste the full flavors of their food. I immediately told the clerk that I wanted my order to go. What a shame. I really wanted to eat out! For checking in, the place tells you that you basically get a free "roll." To my dismay, it was only for patrons dining in, and for orders over $15. I didn't realize this until I actually opened the coupon. I think if I had complained, the staff would have let me redeem the coupon, but I didn't want to press the issue. How disappointing. I'd never be able to sit in there longer than 5 minutes. I waited outside for my to-go order. I won't be going back. They didn't even put napkins in the bag! I would if I lived in the area, but honestly it's not worth the trip out to this less-than-quaint establishment. If you cruise the internet, you'll find much better Thai places. read more

Beyond my understanding why on earth we went here. Blah! First, the waitress was terrible, LOOK PEOPLE IN THE EYE WHEN YOU TALK WITH THEM, maybe a little smile would be nice too, you know! This place is great! The ambience here is so chill and relaxing decor inside. They were playing 70s, 80s, and 90s slow jams on their radio. Loved it because I grew up with those songs! My gf and I came here near closing time and we're the last to be in here. We were in the area and never been. Plus we didn't want to drive into the city for Thai food. The only reason why it took them a little while longer to take our order is because there is one main waitress and one lady taking the orders via phone. From what I've read earlier, this place has BYOB. They were all very nice and attentive. Brought us water and hot tea without us having to ask for assistance. The food was great! It is definitely better than Ruby of Siam and much cheaper! You get more bang for your buck here. We had crab ragoon. I've been to restaurants where they are skimpy on the filling.. not this place! We shared a seaweed salad.. Sooo good! And we also shared one entree.. Pad Thai with tofu. Yummy in our tummy's! LoL.. Yeah yeah.. It's corny, I know! And to top it off, yelp offers a free California maki or avocado maki. At the end of our meal, the waitress and the owner came to our table and asked us our opinion about the place. I hosted a large group of women here. We had 22 attendees and the table was set and ready for us. However, they only had one server to take care of us and the rest of the patrons. I would say service was slow.....I had the a Pad dish and did not think the shrimp were fresh. And, my bubble tea was too icy. I honestly think we will be eating here on a weekly basis. The food is so delicious and the service is excellent. We ordered way too much food so we could take a bunch home.
