I went to Beyond Bread with Kelly while visiting my sister in Tucson. The whole weekend, my sister's boyfriend talked this up as a great sandwich place, and it was. I was blown away by the size of the kitchen, about twice the size of the seating area, which made service almost instant. I had a basic salami sandwich, and they did it well. They warned us that this would be the big meal of the day, we couldn't plan on a big dinner later. And again they were right. Each half a sandwich was as big as a normal sandwich from somewhere else. I left the complementary chips at my sister's, because I couldn't eat them. The desserts looked fantastic, and we tried an eclair and fruit tort. We had to hold off a few hours to tackle them, but they were worth the wait. Walking in, the place looked like a standard chain to me, but don't let the polished finish of the decor fool you. Yeah, yeah.. great bread & sandwiches. But they must have a new manager at the Speedway location, because after an enjoyable 7 or 8 years, they have discontinued their FREE Bread & Butter sampler stand! This restaurant is quite successful, and evidently feels they don't need to do something which helped propel them to the popularity they now enjoy. When I complained at the counter, I was told I should visit the Campbell location ... it still has the complimentary bread stand. This is one of our favorite hangouts in Tucson. Everything is fresh-baked, the place is open and airy, and the service is great. They have very creative sandwiches, and they are HUGE--a half is adequate for most appetites. The Sunday turkey is my favorite, with cranberry, etc--and it is AWESOME. Their Reuben took 2nd place nationally--so they know their sandwiches! Their sticky buns are my favorite. Super rich, tons of caramel and pecans, and big enough to share (though I usually pig out on my own!). Cinnamon rolls and scones are great. The breads and cookies and desserts are BEAUTIFUL, and it is obvious they take great pride in their work and in their community. I highly recommend this place! read more

I really love the turkey and brie sandwich from Beyond Bread. The honey mustard they put on the sandwich is divine. I got the pasta salad on the side and it was full of crunchy corn and veggies. I always ask for the sandwich on softer bread because the baguettes rip up my mouth. The multi grain bread is a great substitution. The desserts look absolutely decadent. read more

Hey now! I feel like anyone who gives this place a bad review is insane....I get you could have a singular poor experience anywhere...but got here 10 times and I guarantee 9 times out of ten you will leave happy...how can I guarantee this you ask well for starters 9 times out of 10 I'm going to order Gino's Grinder which comes with a small pile of delicious capicola! Miss Keri slammed the mufaletta which in all fairness needed a better tapenade but was still pretty awesome (mine was better)! Probably worth noting these sandwiches end are pretty big and can be shared especially for lunch....they can also be taken to the base individually because they are freakin' delicious! We both brought our second halves home with us and after some Christmas party endeavors (e.g. Cocktails) miss Keri scarfed down my grinder (can you say that on Yelp?) late night night (I told you mine was better)! For everyone else grab a baguette or sourdough, heat it up a little in the oven, rip off a piece, spread some ricotta cheese on it, drizzle a little olive oil, and sprinkle with some good salt....you will never use cream cheese again! read more

Beyond Bread is fine, especially if you like bread products. But, when I think about it, I hate spending money on "fine." Today was our second visit, and my wife ordered a cinnamon roll. It was fairly tasty. I had the quiche, which, after I added hot sauce, made for an OK breakfast. My main gripe with Beyond Bread is the iced tea. It's just not very good. I don't understand how a restaurant can brew a bad iced tea. Either they're purchasing tea leaves that were harvested in the 1800s, reusing old tea bags, or brewing the tea at an abnormally hot temperature. I'm not a tea aficionado or anything -- I drink Iced Tea from the local QT every morning -- so I'm not holding Beyond Bread to extraordinary standards. So...I'm a bit torn about Beyond Bread. My BF and I were visiting his sister and man in Tuscon, and they RAVED about this place. Unable to pass up the delicious carby goodness that is a sandwich, we went for lunch. They warned us about the enormous portions, thankfully. I got a half sandwich with turkey/avocado/hummus/sprouts on Rustic bread and a bowl of Chicken Tortilla soup. I was very disappointed in the soup. More like packaged chicken veggie soup with a few tortilla strips on top. No spice, and just the wrong substance, all together. The soup comes with a choice of bread, too. I got the pumpernickel, which was just okay(but I didn't need all that bread anyway!) The sandwich was decent. Tasty bread and fresh ingredients. Nothing spectacular, though. I agree with yelper Katie T who compared it to Panera, although I think it's a bit better. I would like to go again and maybe try something different. We also got desserts to go. I have a Maya's Market addiction. I don't go to Beyond Bread that often (I *have* to restrain myself), and when I do go, my craving for the Maya's Market has gotten so strong I can't order anything else. However, I know, by the looks on my companions faces, that they are always as happy with their choices as I am with mine. While there, it's a good idea to grab a loaf of the fantastic bread (the multigrain is heavenly, but so are most...) Aaron W. commented that it feels a bit chain like or corporate, and if by that he means streamlined and efficient, he's right. There are two locations, so I guess that makes it a chain,but with only two and only in Tucson, a short chain it is. The last reviewer also said that there weren't many veggie options. I guess I haven't noticed, since, again it's hard for me to make it past the Maya's Market (a vegetarian--not vegan--wonder), but glancing at the ridiculously long menu, I do see only 4 items with the veggie mark.. But they're so good, I am not sure it matters. Also, the few times I have indulged in the desserts have been similarly amazing. mmmmmm. read more

The service: Despite being incredibly busy, our order was taken very quickly and professionally. I ordered a hot sandwich and my wife ordered a cold one, the order took around 5 minutes to prep and was brought directly to our outside table. The place seemed clean and they quickly disposed of previous customer's trash. The food: We were both happy with the size and quality of our sandwiches. Their restaurant branded kettle chips were pretty good. My wife had a pasta salad that was mediocre but you can't expect much from pasta salad. The meat in the sandwiches were very good quality. I don't like pumpernickel, and my sandwich came with that as the bread, and I didn't read that on the menu. This was entirely my fault but the rest of the sandwich was very good. I cannot lie - my main motivation for going to BB is to eat free bread. I know I'm not alone! I am a creature of habit at BB, and get either the Maya's Market sandwich or the Three's a Crowd Salad (depending if I want hot or cold!). The bread is fantastic, my sandwich and salad are always delicious and big enough to have the next day. As far as the ambience, this place does a great job of keeping everything clean-looking, they get lots of natural light, and they have tons of staff constantly wandering to clear tables and help you with your to-go bags. I always see lots of happy people at BB. It's also a great spot to buy desserts, particularly for parties! If you need to entertain, pick up one of their tarts or cakes - certainly a crowd pleaser! Overall, good for the whole family, quick bite on the go (although not the absolute quickest sandwich of your life, but worth it) and friendly service. read more

I had their Avi's Avo sandwich, husband had some curry salad. Nothing in this world could have prepared me for how humongous that sandwich was. I usually can put away quite a bit of food but after half sandwich, I was extremely full and for hours to come. His salad was delicious as I gave him the other half of my sandwich and ate some of his salad. We will be eating there another time or two during my business trip to Tucson. Highly recommended! I don't know how they got the Zagat rating. The sandwiches are good-- but sometimes the bread is so hard it cuts your mouth. Othertimes the sandwiches are just too dry. The creme brulee didn't have the sugar fully brulee'd and thus, it was watery (yuck!!). I'd go there again but don't expect AMAZING results. I love bread! And this place has it! They sell loaves of bread, pretzels and pastries. And if that wasn't enough, they also have soups, sandwiches, salads, and macaroni & cheese. Yes, I love macaroni & cheese, so of course, I had to try it. Yummy! I've also tried several sandwiches, pastries and a pretzel or two. Hubby has tried several sandwiches and soups too. We love the food in here and have bought loaves of bread to have at home as well. Service is fairly quick. Great sandwich place with a large menu selection and modern, cafe-style decor. I especially liked the exposed brick, and service was friendly and prompt. Plus they're conveniently located in a shopping center, next to the BEST bookstore I have ever visited (Bookmans). You can make your sandwiches to order on their freshly baked bread. I must dock them some points for skimping on avocado on my veggie-on-sourdough (ONE meager sliver per half?!! Definitely NOT okay, ask for extra). But I otherwise found little fault in the delicious food, and the yummy (and huge) chocolate chip peanut butter cookie made up for the disturbing avocado incident. We have taken my mom here two weeks in a row. Very Covid safe. We call in our orders, and pick them up. No muss or fuss. We love this location/chain! If it were up to my husband we'd eat here just about everyday lol but we only eat here about a handful of times a month. Sometimes more sometimes less I always get the Ashlee albacore and he tends to get the Reuben most often staff is always incredibly friendly, so kind! As far as quality? Delicious! Love their bread. I finally made if here for a meal after only stopping by to pick up a loaf of their multigrain bread (oh my gosh so good... go buy it now). I generally don't really like sandwiches (weird... I know, I don't like chocolate either. Go figure) but after seeing all their menu items including hot sandwiches I decided to check it out because I loved their bread so much. I went with my fiancé for lunch on a Friday and wow was it busy. The parking lot was insane. I recommend just parking down by Bookman's the avoid the chaos of all the cars circling the few spots right in front of Beyond Bread. Despite being completely packed the line moved pretty quickly and the food came out within about 5 minutes. They give you marker to put on your table so they can deliver your food but instead of having numbers they have words with interesting definitions. Fun and unique :) I ordered the Salmon sandwich which is a Friday special (each day they have soup, sandwich and bread specials). If you have a specific bread or menu item in mind I would definitely check their schedule ahead of time. My sandwich came on focaccia which was perfect. I swear there were two small baked salmon filets packed in between the bread and I loved the aioli served on the side. Filling and delicious. I also opted to get a side garden salad for a $1 up charge instead of chips. The salad wasn't spectacular but I think the dressing was homemade. This is the best sandwich place in Tucson. The first few times I went to Beyond Bread I was discouraged by the menu, and noticed a lot of sandwiches that included sprouts. Beyond Bread is one of my favorite restaurants in Tucson. The sandwiches are immense, and the bread is so fresh and delicious it's like nothing else I've had in my time on this Earth. The Avi's Avo is a turkey and avocado sandwich on a magnificent crisp ciabatta roll the size of my head. The Molly's Crisis is my favorite, a wonderfully balanced turkey, hummus and fresh vegetable sandwich on rustic mutligrain bread. The soups and salads are also excellent as are the desserts. The service is also very good. One time I took a sandwich to go but forgot to inspect it beforehand. Turns out they gave me the wrong item. I brought it back and the manager not only replaced it with the right one, she comped the meal and gave me free desserts to go to say sorry. I appreciated the extra effort taken for customer satisfaction. Pros: + Large portions, always enough to take home for dinner or tomorrow. + Wonderful fresh bread every day, good desserts too + Free bread samples in the waiting line + Excellent value. You'll be stuffed for $10. Cons: - The line goes out the door at lunchtime and they run out of tables. In the summer you might have to sit outside in the 130 degrees. Ok, first, the bread here is amazing, it tastes like they sent a guy over to France to bring this bread in a hyper fast jet, is crunchy and warm, and incredible.
