Back Dough is an off shoot on Wilmot Rd of the Beyond bread restaurant around the way on Broadway next to Bookmans. You really wouldn't see this place driving down Wilmot because it's tucked behind two businesses, with 4 fifteen minutes parking spots designated for the shop. It's a small little pie shop and all pies are six inch mini pies for $7.99. Many are topped with pipped whipped cream unless you order a double crust fruit pie or quiche. I think I've sampled every pie. The size is perfect to split with someone. No drinks or other things are available here, but one can purchase drinks down the way at Beyond Bread. The staff are always getting customers rung up and out quick. Because the space is so small you go in the entrance, order your pies and then go out an exit door. There's no room for meandering or window shopping. You just wait your turn to look and order right away and I rung up the whole space is quite small nonetheless it's fun to go there and get a little treat now and again. Solid pies! Stopped here while in Tucson to get some pies. I went with a Chocolate Pecan, a German Chocolate, and an Apple Crumb. All pies are $7.99 each. Can't beat that price! I have been by Back Dough dozens of times, and honestly we usually make fun of the name. I finally had an opportunity to stop in and i'm not making fun of it anymore. You order your pies and take them to go. There is no seating. The girl working the counter was fantastic. She was friendly and helped answer my questions. They have a selection of pies, from fruit and cream to pot pies. They are all decently sized "mini" pies for $7.99. Plus if you return 10 pie tins you get a free pie. I ordered the Kahlua cream cheese and a strawberry margarita. In true fashion of wanting to try both I took a quarter of each. This was a lot of pie! I should have only tried one per night. The flavors are good and blend together beautifully that it isn't too terribly rich or tart. These are a fun treat to have as I don't have pie often. There's no where to sit within the building but I believe it's part of the Beyond Bread location that is right next store, so if you want a place to sit you can go in there to eat your pie. The crust difference between the pot pie and the pie was quite shocking to be honest. Not flaky and tasted like a generic store bought crust, somewhat doughy as well. The filling was also quite gelatinous and not as fluffy as I would have expected. The chocolate top was nice and firm and stood out as well. The pie itself measures only 6" across but it's over a pound. That's how thick and dense it is. The price is $7.75 which includes tax. It's the perfect solution if you need to bring something for a dinner at your friends house or just want to treat the family. I'd say it can feed 4. It's really fast and convenient, I was in and out in probably less than 2 minutes. It's one of the best smelling shops you'll ever be in. Pro tip: It's behind Beyond bread. These pies are pretty good but the crust is a little too rich & thick for me it's nice that they offer a few sugar free ones but I wish there were more I'm not diabetic but I used to be obese then I cut out all sugar & high carbs & lost all the weight which I'm down to my normal BMI now I have more energy & feel great plus I don't have to be on a bunch of medication like I used to be since being overweight from eating sugar & high carbs caused more health problems but if I owned a pie shop I'd substitute the sugar which is poison to your body & use monk fruit sweetener instead it's so much healthier & keto friendly & lastly no trans fat oils which will raise your cholesterol they're basically horrible for you so I just hope this place is not using them or lard either which is even worse but if they're using fresh berries theirs really no need to use extra sugar, still monk fruit is much better than regular sugar & for your waistline!!! read more
