    Bahn Mi Tacos
    Roland W.

A friend highly recommended the desserts from this food truck. When I showed up, I noticed they offered banh mi tacos! I am a huge fan of both bahn mi and tacos; the combination seemed heavenly. I would have been foolish to not try them! Unfortunately, I should have stuck with the desserts. The meat contained ample flavor but was dry. On the outside, the stale tortilla added no benefits. The basmati rice, to top it all off, only came across as an odd pairing for the tacos. Everything clashed for me. In stark contrast, the salted caramel cupcake tasted divine. The icing was delightfully smooth and creamy. A burst of salty caramel within the center exploded in my mouth after each bite. This cupcake was one of the best cupcakes I have ever tried. The luscious cupcake is enough to lure me back to Pin-Up Pastries unlike the entrees which deter me.

This is one of the few food carts that can really satisfy your sweet tooth in style. My most recent Pin-Up Pastries treat was eaten during Eastside Eats, a food truck fundraiser to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) on March 31, 2012. Large fresh strawberries, buttery pound cake pieces and chocolate sauce on a skewer. Talk about being speechless. Pin-Up Pastries didn't even know what to call it. It was big enough for two. Yep, we shared. And it was decadent. The pound cake pieces were buttery. The fresh strawberries were huge, juicy and perfectly ripe. And the chocolate sauce? Who doesn't like dripping chocolate? We got it all over over our fingers, my phone, even my hubby's chin. Of course, that was just an excuse to kiss him and lick it off. Okay, okay. I know. Get a room. Anyway, as for how to make this treat better? I'd recommend that it be divided into two smaller skewers, served in a paper food tray with a small chocolate dipping cup on the side, and a fork. It would have made the experience a little less messy and easier to manage, especially when there are often no places to clean up at a food truck event. But that's just a nit, and an esthetic one at that. It didn't change the fact that this fruit-and-cake-kabob was awesomely delicious. Hunt down Pin-Up Pastries at that next food truck event and grab one of these babies. Check out my uploaded photo of the food vendor holding a skewer just seconds before we got our sweet-craving hands on it. http://bit.ly/H7lG6h

"I enjoy having breakfast in bed. I like waking up to the smell of bacon, sue me. And since I don't have a butler, I have to do it myself. So, most nights before I go to bed, I will lay six strips of bacon out on my George Foreman grill. Then I go to sleep. When I wake up, I plug in the grill. I go back to sleep again. Then I wake up to the smell of crackling bacon. It is delicious, it's good for me, it's the perfect way to start the day." Michael Scott - The Office What's better than bacon in bed? Perhaps, bacon on your desert! I experienced the maple bacon cupcake during the recent food truck roundup at the uber kitschy, insanely retro rad bar The Shelter. Now combine delicious desert with bacon and throw a pin up girl in the mix?!? Wowza. Seriously, this truck has a great concept! Nice moist cupcake, fluffy maple mountainous frosting, topped with crisp, salty bacon pieces of love! Perfect mash up of salty and sweet. I wonder if they use some of the rendered bacon fat in the batter for flavor and moisture..... Maple syrup is sweet! And I'm not just talking flavor. Maple syrup is an excellent source of manganese and a good source of zinc....so really, in essence this is cupcake is a health food :-)

Tried last night at the Tucson Food truck round up!! Delicious!! They fill the whoopie pies when you order, so it's extra fresh and not soggy! My 4 year old had the fudge cake and said it was great!! Will look for this food truck to sample everything they make!! Great find!!

I'm gonna go with a 4.65 on this one and not a five just because I want more variety! Call me a glutton but I swear one is not enough to get what these ladies have to offer. Menu rotates and the even have a frequent buyer punch card! Buy 9 get the 10th one free. Prices are $3-4 per individual cupcake or slice and worth it. They decorate/garnish on the spot so always fresh. Catch them at most of the Tucson food truck round ups and all around town. You can stalk them down on facebook. The ladies were so nice and gave me the newbie speech to get me hooked! They accept plastic but always have some cash to tip :) I will be back for more. Who can resist a sugary delight with great conversation? Faves: Mexican chocolate and maple bacon cupcakes

Birthday gifts from the hubby from Pin-Up Pastries. Amazing as always. Mind blown.

Places are successful because they stay the course and do what they do best. Today we went with the four meat platter, perfect amount for two people, brisket, pulled pork, turkey and sausage. With four side of coleslaw, mac and cheese, potato salad and cornbread. All meats are still sauced unless requested "on the side", but not so much to overwhelm the meat taste. Juicy flavorful pulled pork. Delicious smoked turkey. Brisket was just slightly dry but the sauce and nice bark made it enjoyable. The sausage was AMAZING, juicy and packed with flavor. Coleslaw in my opinion, could use a little more "wetness" but it was still delicious. What can I say about the mac and cheese and potato salad, people from the south, Texas to the Carolina's just know how to get it done. The "Texas Sweet Tea", if you are a diabetic do not drink, however this is a true southern tea, it's done the same all across the south, sugar with some tea thrown in. Four meats, four sides and two drinks with tip $50, not bad for two people, I've definitely spent more for food that didn't even come close to this. Once again Smoky Mo you did not disappoint. If you are a BBQ person this is STILL the best of Tucson. Get out and support this small local business!

It comes with 1/2 lb sliced brisket, 1/2 lb of other meat of your choice, 3 sides, half a sour pickle and a smoked crack pie). The friendly cashier informed us the sausages were an additional $3 today so we decided to add it to our order as well. My major complaint about BBQ is dry, tough and overly salty meats. OMG, this was the most tender and juicy brisket I have ever had. And don't get me started on the pulled pork, it was perfectly seasoned. Just wished I had it on a bun instead. My son went crazy for the Sonoran spicy sausage. My favorite side was the dill potato salad. I had to ask, Toby the owner, where the cute name, Bashful Bandit Barbecue comes from. He said I was asking some great questions. Lol. Place used to be a biker's bar. When he took over he decided to just keep the name. We had a lovely and engaging conversation with him. I loved this place and frankly, although great Mexican food in Tucson is a given, I didn't know they had good barbeque too. This included Brisket, Pulled Pork, Tri-tip, Sausage, Turkey, two St. Louis Style Pork Ribs, and 4 slices of toast with our choice of two eight-ounce sides (we chose the baked beans and coleslaw. My favorites were the Ribs, Brisket, Tri-tip, and baked beans. The turky was solid and smokey. I'm not really a fan of sausage, but my wife enjoyed these. I loved that you could really taste the smokey taste and that everything was fresh, juicy, and tender. The baked beans were the kind of love, with pieces of pork throughout the mixture. Because we split this platter (with leftovers), it was quite a good deal. When the bill came, the waitress listed a bunch of things that qualified for an extra discount, so we scored an additional 10% off for being seniors.
