My friend and I came for breakfast, and weren't impressed. You order food at the counter. The cashier asked what I wanted then said repeated everything back as the opposite of what I ordered. The scrambled egg plate was 15.00 for frozen potatoes, a piece of bread and scrambled eggs. The eggs were overcooked and tasteless, my friend's bacon was undercooked. The coffee was terrible, and my cinnamon roll was just ok. The menu prices were way too high for a diner that doesn't even serve you at your table. The service was quick and the staff was lovely, they also are so involved in the community. I was lucky enough to go on a Saturday where a coffee and cars event was going on right outside and it was awesome! Very busy on a Saturday morning. It took maybe 10-15 minutes to wait in line and order. The food was alright but nothing exceptional. The French toast was fluffy but a little bland. I had a ham, cheese and egg breakfast sandwich on a croissant my first time and I also have enjoyed the quiche (spinach and feta). I tried a Danish last time -blueberry- buttery and flaky. This time I had a slice of Danish Kringle, which has an almond cream in it. So rich and delicious. The coffee is decent but the cappuccino was better. The woman at the counter is all business and gets the job done fast. Usually crowded in there but they do have lulls. I've been there a couple of times. The first time was close to closing time when all you could get was pastries. This time around 1:30 and again just pastries but that was okay. The pastries are quite good. Three of us this time got some things. It is hard to choose as it all looks very good. I got the cannoli which was great. Nice flaky crust and delicious cream filling. One got the cinnamon roll that was huge and enjoyed it. In previous visit had almond cookie and lemon bar, both very good. It's good to know that they quit serving other food like the sandwiches and soup fairly early. They also serve breakfast. There is indoor and outdoor seating. I remember as a kid being told, "your eyes are bigger than your stomach" which could be good advice. Your eyes may tell you to get one of everything as plenty of temptations. Mona's baked goods are delicious and I'm so happy we have a bakery that makes Kringle, but the recent issues on my last visit were really problematic. We've ordered pastries and baked goods from Mona's for Christmas breakfast for years without issue, but this year when we arrived to pick up our order that had been placed more than a week before, we were told they didn't have any individual quiches. No apology and no explanation as to how this happened or why we weren't contacted so we could order something else. Instead, the woman who helped us was abrupt and unfriendly. I get that it's a busy time of year, but this left is scrambling on Christmas Eve to find an alternate breakfast item for one of our family members. (La Baguette for the win.) I've never had an issue with my order in the past, but I don't think I'll risk another situation like this in the future. read more

Because it's a small space and there were too many waiting for their food I decided to just get some pastries to go. While I enjoyed the crisp and light texture of the pastries almost all of them were way too sweet for my tastes. The French waffle in particular was so sweet I could only take one bite. I did like the marzipan truffle though. The sweetness level of that dessert was alright and I enjoyed the almond flavor of the marzipan with the chocolate filling and chocolate dipped ends. Went there with my cousin on a Saturday. I had the half sandwich and daily soup with drink for $17. I had the turkey breast & bacon on sourdough and chicken tortilla soup. To my great surprise, I had a Schweppes Ginger Ale as my drink. Really refreshing and never offered on a coke machine. The sandwich was perfect and delicious. Mona's has it going. Started 23 years by Mona's parents, we met Mona and her parents who continue to help out. We showed up at 10 on a busy Wednesday. Mona greeted us. We ordered a coffee, breve latté with excellent crema, and a breakfast burrito. We also bought a cinnamon kringle and a fresh seeded rye. All were excellent. My first and last time entering this establishment. Only upon looking at my receipt did I notice upcharges for latte and cappuccino and a non-cash-payment charge. Nowhere in restaurant is there a sign that indicates you will be charged more if you don't pay cash, nor will the owners advise you of this while paying. After asking woman why they have HIDDEN CHARGES, she said the surprise coffee upcharge was for a larger size which I did not ask for but was decided for me. No friendly customer service, no concern or simple apology. Instead, I was told to not come back if I didn't like it! Beware that the drink/coffee menu has no prices or sizes on it and they will deceptively charge extra without you knowing. In terms of quality and taste, the hot sandwiches were nothing special but ESPECIALLY GREASY. The coffee was mediocre, much tastier and fairly priced in other coffee houses around Tucson. Chocolate chip cookie was doughy in center, not fully baked through. But the WORSE thing of all was the NON-FRIENDLY attitude and lack of concern and hospitality from owners. read more

The cinnamon bun that layers itself upon layers of crispy tender dough yodeled with sticky buttery cinnamon. We also loved the almond croissant smeared within with lovely almondine filling. My wife and I have been going to Monas frequently for several years when we are in town. Sometimes breakfast and often for lunch. Always good although not overly friendly. Today we went for lunch and the order taker, which I think is new, would not let me order a turkey sandwich the way I wanted and insisted I take one of the menu selections without changes. This has never happened before and when the order came he told me that was what I ordered which was not the case, He did eventually get the right order after a long wait. They have taken out the soda machine so you must buy bottled drinks and they gave us a cup so small you could not catch the ice. At least they didn't charge for ice (I don't think). The owner came through the dining room but could not be bothered to see what the issue was. I'm never going back to this place ever again. read more

I ordered 2 poached eggs, they changed me an additional $2wi saying anything until I saw the bill. Just not right. This time I ordered a cup of hot water ( to warm up my hands), they were going to charge me an extra $1.50 however a plastic cup of water is free. He had no explanation.
