I was looking for a good morning spot for pastries in Tucson, and Bakery by Ren was at the top of my list. Parking was in a busy plaza, but I immediately loved the area. It felt very athleisure and laidback with FP Movement, a yoga studio, and coffee shops around. Very much my vibe. We accidentally walked into REN Coffeehouse first. It was crowded with a long line and had fewer baked goods. It was more a lunch spot with an expansive menu. Once I realized the bakery was next door, we walked over and found it tucked into a beautiful courtyard. The space is gorgeous with lots of greenery, a big tree, and plenty of tables. People were enjoying a slow, relaxed morning. Bakery by Ren itself is smaller, much less crowded, and had no line when we went. There was a great selection of baked goods including assorted croissants, muffins, cookies, kolaches, and more. We ordered the ham and cheese quiche, which they heated up and tasted great. The orange cranberry loaf was so delicious with a bright citrusy flavor and big cranberry bits. The icing was slightly on the sweet side, but so addicting. I also ordered a hot matcha latte and you can add flavors like lavender or vanilla for an additional charge. They also offer several alternative milk options. Matcha itself wasn't amazing, but it did the job. I picked up a bag of Presta coffee beans and received a free cup of coffee. They also offer a 3.5% discount when paying with cash. Saving this spot for the next time I'm back in Tucson! read more

Service was great! Place is clean and very modern. This was my first time coming in. They still had lots of pastries at 1:00pm. I asked for suggestions and I went with the coffee cake muffin ($3.75). Thick layer of cinnamon crumble that tasted like brown sugar. The inside had a cinnamon swirl that also tasted like brown sugar. I do wish it had a more complex flavor profile with more cinnamon and nutmeg. Bc of its sweetness it did pair well with coffee I had at home (Nespresso melozio) I also got a black coffee. It's how I drink my coffee usually and it's a quick way to know if the place has a clean brewing system and the quality of the roast. Before leaving I asked what it was and was told Guatemalan roast from Yellow Brick Coffee. It tasted like cigarette butts had been placed in hot water and boiled. It was $4.50...for black coffee. No cream or sugar. It was packed with caffeine and did keep me up!!! For my taste and preference it missed the mark for what I ordered. Great spot to grab a coffee and a pastry. I ordered a hot mocha, a pumpkin cream cheese cookie and a pecan cinnamon roll everything tasted great. The clean open layout gives you a clear view at the staff working hard making the drinks and baking the pastries. The service was okay. Personally, I see this as more of a quick stop rather than a sit and stay kind of place. It gets pretty busy and with the limited seating, I'd feel bad taking up space just to get work done. read more

If you're looking for a bakery with a variety, this little shop is a solid choice. They're an extension of REN coffee in St. Philip's plaza. It's a small spot with a few tables inside but you can enjoy the patio outside. They open early too! And you can order full size pies, etc from them. read more

The bakery quality has sadly gone down over the years, and moreso when they moved into this new location. I ordered an iced oat milk matcha to go and thought the color was a very very light green initially but was too busy wrangling my kids into the car to really process its shortfall- by the time I tried it, I had already driven away. the iced matcha was pretty much all oat milk and ice with barely any matcha in it. I really wish it kept its quality and care as they had initially. at this point, I prefer Starbucks (yikes!) over Ren. read more

Located in the St. Philips Plaza near the Catalina Hills, is a cute bakery and coffee shop house. Right outside you'll find live music during the weekends. I came here for an iced caramel macchiato-it was decent. I tasted mostly milk and wished more coffee taste. The baked good make up for it-the chocolate croissant, oatmeal cookie, and chocolate/coconut cookie were all delicious. Parking can be tricky especially during the weekend and busy hours. The store also offers unique ice cream flavors, non coffee drinks, and coffee beans. The staff were great! Clean tables. Clean bathroom. I'd come again for the desserts. read more

What I really love about Ren is that they will actually engage in a conversation with me about the ingredients in their baked goods. Not every restaurant wants to take the time to show you the binder where everything is written, or to clarify something about the list of ingredients. Every time I've visited they are patient and kind. They also have so many options for people -- vegan, gluten-free, keto, etc. Not to mention the drink options and ice cream. The list goes on and on. Try their biscuits and gravy! It's hard to find these vegan. I've also tried muffins, breads, and cookies. The options change on a regular basis so it's never the same place twice when it comes to the baked goods. The atmosphere is also lovely, with both indoor and outdoor options. read more

I think this is about my 4th time coming in, they have consistently good Americano's, & my dad seemed to really enjoy the breakfast croissant sandwich (w/bacon) when we came in Sunday after church. I must've been attributing my pics to their other location that is maybe a hundred yards away in the plaza, but only open from 6am-2pm, while this location is open 8am-8pm daily. I'm leaving town shortly, but it's good to know where you can get a good cup of coffee, & my time in Central & South America made me partial to good coffee, specifically Americano's. After ordering my coffee from Rens coffeehouse, I walked over to their bakery for a few pastries. Easily some of the best croissants I've had in Tucson. Not only was the bakery itself so cute, it also had plenty of outdoor seating overlooking the plazas fountain. The best part of this bakery is the pricing! I've found other bakeries in the area to be far overpriced for lackluster pastries but here I was pleasantly surprised. For $10 I got a large, very delicious croissant and a pumpkin kouign amann.
